Desperately need to go back to stock - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi y'all. I received my nexus 6 in the mail yesterday and went through the process of unlocking the bootloader, flashing a custom recovery and rooting it. Problem is the blasted camera on it is defective and wont focus and I figured that out AFTER I was done. I have an RMA set up from Motorola and am going to ship it out but what do I do about the unlocked bootloader and flashed recovery? Will I be screwed if I send it in that way? And if so what do I do to reflash it to stock? Anyone ever dealt with this before?

flash a factory image then relock your bootloader after. before relocking, make sure that you can boot up first, and remove your google account.

here you go. BTW, you will get confused, so don't be afraid to ask questions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-flash-factory-images-nexus-6shamu-t2954008

ok all of that is done thank goodness. How do I relock the bootloader?

same as you unlock it, via fastboot in your bootloader as well.. fastboot oem lock, then press enter.

Here's another thread on warranty returns
If you unlocked bootloader already maybe you can try another cable, what's it say when you type: fastboot devices

You need to enable oem unlock in developer options to relock.

Thanks y'all its all packaged up and ready to be sent to moto. So I hope the answer doesnt ruin me liking the phone but is the camera not focusing a common issue on the nexus 6?

but its something that can happen right? I just wanna know im not crazy. When i google the issue a few people talk about the OIS being defective.
And since november 2014 huh? How do you like it overall? I got mine "new but opened" 32gb blue with a warranty for $244 shipped to my door and I just wanna confirm it was a good choice to replace my dead nexus 5

It is hardware, so yeah, it sure can happen. But haven't heard of this issue in the past. Did you have that issue on the stock ROM too? or only on custom ROM?
I've had my N6 since Nov 2014 as well - felt it was good enough to skip the N6P this year. Stable, and fast enough. As long as you are ok with the size, you should have no reason to regret it.

Had mine since December '14, most of the problems people report are their own doing, and the camera wouldn't focus at all even the touch to focus?

I didnt even flash a custom rom. I just unlocked it and put a custom bootloader on it. I didnt even have a chance to put a sim card in it before I noticed the camera wouldnt focus. I think I can get used to the size (im 6'3 with fairly large hands) but I mainly got it for the upgrade in power and supposed better radios for service and battery life than the nexus 5. I could take or leave the huge screen

no and I tried multiple different camera apps besides the stock one. It wasnt just a little out of focus either, im betting my old flip phone would take clearer pictures than how it was doing. Again I didnt even get to "use" the phone for a half of day lol

yea, if you can think of it, it probably can happen.
I love my n6 BTW! I was going to get the n6p in December, but its not much different than the n6, so I'm still just considering if I should get the 6p. really, only the cam has improved in the 6p. and I'm a camera/photo person(just look at my g+ profile https://plus.google.com/+semeonkorsunsky/posts ). but.. the n6 camera is good enough for me, not a terrible camera for sure!

[Q] Question about buying a bricked moto x

Hi everyone, I'm planning on buying a bricked moto x because it's cheap and it's new. In the past I already bought a bricked phone and made it work, however I'm not sure I will be able to this time so I wanted to know if you guys can help me understand:
-IF it can be unbricked/fixed, I don't care if it's difficult but I need to know if it's possible first.
-if the above is possible then what procedures should I follow
I'm probably asking for too much, sorry, but from what I tried to investigate it looks like it has more than one single problem so im not sure if all of them have a solution.
What the seller said:
The old owner sold it with the bootloader unlocked, I didn't knew that, so I updated via OTA (in the phone) and ended like that.
Looks like it can't have an unlocked bootloader if OTA updating, I don't even know please help me.
*since I still don't own the phone I can't test anything, I just need to know if those errors shown above have a solution, or at least are not a death declaration so I can still try something if I buy it.
Sorry for the bad quality of the images but that's what the guy selling it uploaded.

You'll be rolling the dice on that one. MAYBE it can be fixed using the de-bricking procedures, but if anyone tells you that it can FOR SURE be fixed...well...I'd question their source.
If its cheap enough that you don't mind throwing that amount of money down the drain....give it a shot. Your call.

I call BS on that account of what happened... The bootloader is LOCKED STATUS 0. That device was never bootloader unlocked. (and having an unlocked bootloader doesn't interfere with taking an OTA)
It could be that someone used one of the older procedures to root and disable write protection, took and OTA (losing root/write protection) and later tried to downgrade to root & disable write protection again, thus causing the brick.
It could be as simple as flashing the latest ROM (4.4.4) using mfastboot. I could be as complex as using -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-resurrecting-bricked-moto-x-t2629057 ... or it could just be a brick that can't be recovered.
Either way, like @samwathegreat said... its a roll of the dice. There is no way of knowing until after you buy the phone and try.

I'll try, after all it's almost new, even if I need to replace something it would be cheaper than buying an used one, I'm worried about that CID stuff because I read that it has something to do with a unique file that has to be backed up and without that file there is nothing you can do to unbrick.

I'd be worried too. There's a great chance the device can't be fixed... And you're simply out X amount of dollars.
I'd pocket your money and add a bit when you can and buy a used fully working device. At least the money won't be wasted... Potentially.
For all you know he fastbooted a rom or firmware for another device entirely. If so, you're done. Paperweight. He could have brought it somewhere and already been told it's unsalvagable.
You just don't know.

I don't blame you!
There's some bricks you can recover from, and some you can't.
Your odds are the same if you just go to the casino and put your money for the phone on red or black at the roulette table. If you lose you lose... But if you win... You can buy a working phone. ?

HELP! My Phone is Dead!

After about a month of being rooted I decided to flash a custom rom, so I flash twrp then my custom rom which happened to be the wrong one because it was a bacon rom and I have a shamu phone so the flash didnt work (wish instructions would have made that more clear.) So after the first fail I flashed the CM12 updater zip thinking that would help but it didnt. So I go to restore my backup image, it was successful! After a successful restore I hit reboot to reboot my phone and from their it never came back up. My phone is dead as can be, no signs of life not a light or anything comes on. If their anything I can do or am I doomed. I do have insurance so I can get another phone, thats after a $200 deposit of course
With the phone off, what happens if you press and HOLD the lower volume key and the power button?

download any rom via your computer, and gapps. then boot into your recovery and adb push them to your phone. be sure its a nexus 6 rom, as thats all a nexus 6 can flash. or, boot into your bootloader and flash the factory img via fastboot.
generally, you shouldnt mod your phone until you learn all the basics about modding your phone.

try plugging it in. let it sit for a minute. then press the power button, and keep pressing it for 20-30 seconds. then let go and press it normally. if nothing, then its dead
maybe the battery died?

This happened to me. As hard as it was, I plugged it in and went to sleep. In the morning I could boot into bootloader, and I flashed stock firmware. I had to flash each file separately, as the flash-all file wouldn't work.

So, what you are saying, is that he/she should commit insurance fraud? Man, look if you don't know what you are doing and brick/destroy your phone that is on you. Pay the money for a new one and learn your lesson. All you are doing is making RMA processes more and more difficult because of cheats like you. OP is to blame here if he/she flashed a ROM made for a different phone, that's on them not the MFG, Motorola.

He is right. People understand that you void your warranty when you flash your device. XDA doesnt condone fraud in any way shape or form. If you brick your device because you were messing with it then you accept it and buy a new one. Why do you think just about every rom thread tells you that you have now voided your warranty. Flashing your device is not something that should be taken lightly or done because it is cool.
so?

So is OK for them to sell phones to us that are defective? Anyway my phone had the
Screen burning and also the
Pink color issue when you lower the brightness I didn't fell like returning it because I had
Already set everything up the way I like it . so just like us they also have to face
The consequences which they do pretty good for me and should do for everyone we are
Taking about a 700 hundred dollars phone here not a 100 dollars phone ,I would like to see.
Those who are taking crap saying to buy another phone if they were in my shoes
I'm pretty sure they would have done the same so stop with that bs . return that phone get your new one end of story thanks.

Are new Pure Editions shipping with KK or Lollipop?

Well it finally happened, I dropped my X. Or more like someone whacked it out of my hands. It's fine, but there's a gouge in the metal frame that's already driving me nuts. So I wanna use my Moto Care to get a new one, but I want to make sure that the one I get will have KK, because it's a pain to downgrade. So, those of you who have recently gotten your Pure Editions- did they come with KK or are they already updated to Lollipop? TIA.
I received my MotoX 2014 pure edition on 2/13. It came with Lollipop. I did use the factory mage from here to downgrade to KitKat.

Is it just me or is this phone a devepors dud?

So I understand that we have locked bootloader but it seems that these forums are dying. This is the first LG phone ive ever owned but it really feels dead even compared to my Galaxy note 3. It's like nobody is even trying to do anything with it and its made me quite sad. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make this phone feel fun and different like I remember doing to my Galaxy s2 or s3? I miss the good old days when a new rom came out every week and new exploits came out almost instantly.
Since there is no official unlock method, it's very tough to develop. Even if there was a workaround to unlock, these money hungry CDMA carriers lock us out of fastboot and adb, so it wouldn't be possible either way. I really wish I would've waited for the new Nexus phones or the OnePlus Two.

I know how you feel. I had mine since release and though I think its an all around great phone root for the most part has done me justice. I just think the general idea of bootloader locking is bull**** and should be illegal. I would love a nexus phone but I will not buy into googles push to cloud storage and their services. I can deal with no removable battery but non expandable memory is a no go. Honestly if/when we get android M on the G3 and we get a custom rom I will go back to it provided the bluetooth issues are ironed out. But thats just my 2 cents

Bootloader unlock, illegal... Really? Please don't be that guy. We bought the phone, we should be able to do what we want to it. That's like buying a car and it being illegal to change your own oil.
You might want to read that again. Where did I state that UN locking it should be illegal. I said the whole boot loader locking thing is bs ie we should not be locked out from it.
I called LG and talk to a tech who told me if I send my phone to them they would unlock my bootloader but it would void my warranty and of course I already knew that but I was just shocked that they said yes instead of telling me no.

Question TMO NE2217 Bootloader unlock option open after A13 Update

It wasn't available before, my phone is still carrier locked. It updated to Android 13 last night. And now I can toggle OEM unlock under dev settings. Should I send it?
Interesting, are you SIM unlocked already? I bought mine from OP so I didn't have to deal with this, but a friend just got theirs from TMobile so I'd be interested to know if this actually works. I wouldn't want to tell you what to do it as it's your money, but if you have a backup phone and you're within your TMobile return window I'd imagine there's no harm in trying. You'll have to enter bootloader to run the `oem unlock` command to fully test if it works
I was able to unlocked mine out of the box when I got mine, and I'm on A12 still. You might have to do more than just the oem unlock, as you still have to get the OP token that takes exactly 2 weeks. Aside from that I haven't done anything but root for a few apps like superfreeze and AFwall. I'm about to sell this thing as it's noticeably less responsive and more laggy than my OP8t. Not to mention I don't even think you can restore anything without MSM. So if you wanna try root, it'll probably most likely work just don't mess around kernels and whatever else.

Oh man, I'm so glad to see it's not just me. I went from an 8T to 10Pro, and it seriously felt like a downgrade. Like an idiot, I traded my 8T at TMO so I got the carrier-locked one. That'll never happen again.
