thanks to OTG-Y patch from Phoenix Write's Thread, I had modified a v4a apk due to when u r using OTG it was coming up as Speaker which did not have the same settings as Headphones, so I had corrected it to where it will have the same features instead to work well with the OTG-Y patch so we can charge and use Audio out USB now.

Has anyone of you tried USB DACs with custom roms which support USB-OTG? If so, post brand of USB DAC, user experience and issues you may had.
why would i if the samsung galaxy S is an excellent DAC in itself..just have flash the voodoo kernel ( or a kernel with voodoo sound)..or get the voodoo app
An external DAC/AMP would be still a great option as an upgrade. Still there are better players out there. I'm also using a Sony Z walkman as portable player and its on a league of its own.
Possible that no one has used an external dac from the Galaxy S. I was thinking that all those custom roms listing this feature would have caught some interest.
USB DAC support
So, we have Jelly Bean ported for our devices. Any news about USB DAC support?
In CM10 usb dac can be detected in USB Host Controller app, but sound still plays through the rear speaker of the phone. At first I thought to change /etc/asound.conf to make sound go to the external usb dac, but it seems that this file is not used by the system at all - it can be deleted and everything works fine.

Any developments on this? I'm wondering if I can hook my old i9000 to the phono input of my Hi-Fi and play music stream via DLNA. The built in DAC is very good apparently, but If i can attach an external one, even better.
So I've been trying I find a solution for this, but it's been proving difficult. I have seen that on the nook forums, with a quick kernel mod and a tweak that allows USB audio control (i.e turn on switch for USB audio output), the guys over there have working digital USB audio output to an outboard DAC. Could anyone find out how to do this with cm7/cm9? Cm9 preferably. I assume we have basic USB host capability, since keyboards, etc. work, so its something specific to USB audio. This is definitely one of the only issues I need resolved on my TP.

This is very possible with USB host and OTG Y-cable adapters. When my cables and my computer come in the mail I will try tinkering with it. It'd be nice to see Jack audio running on here. Once July rolls around and HP releases most of their driver and kernel sources, development in all areas will skyrocket for our Touchpads.

Does the upstream port require power even if the device I'm using has its own power? My E17 has its own battery, but for some reason it isn't even recognized through the USB OTG cable. I can't even get USB audio to work on the WebOS side, which supposedly has full USB audio support via pulse audio now...

Hmm, I'm not sure. If it has it's own power supply, maybe you can try to mount it with a standard male microUSB to female USB. I'm about to see if I can get my external HDD with it's own power supply to mount to my phone and tablet. Will report back with results.

Yeah, no go on mount :/

Has there been anymore dev on this topic, including the current CM mods? This would make an interesting project for a carputer if the USB audio works.
Hey everyone,
Having a bad GPS -signal as soon as I plug in my headphones (which renders GPS tracking basically useless for me), I am looking for alternative ways of using my headphones while doing sports. Searching the Internet, I came across various microUSB to headphone adapters (e.g. serach on amazon for: "LinkS Micro USB to VGA MHL Adapter+Micro 5pin to 11pin adapter + Charging Cable in Black 3 Feet Kit" or "Universal Micro USB Interface to 3.5mm Plug Earphone Adapter (Black)", I have not enough posts to post links/images, yet). Now I am wondering if our phone will support these adapters and if yes, can I control the volume of the output?
Many thanks in advance!
Using an USB audio device requires USB OTG which our device doesn't support.
Hey @Adam77Root but we have working mhl which anyway is using microusb port. And iodaks kernel have working otg too.
Edit: android L seems will have support for USB audio devices IF they have working otg

MHL uses a different method.
If there is working OTG, USB audio support is enabled in the kernel and USB audio HAL is included in the rom, it can work. Older versions too support it.
I just had a co-worker who has a nexus 5 receive the Lollipop update (just plug & play). We just tested with my FiiO E18 and I can confirm that it passes audio via USB to the DAC flawlessly without issue. If you have a DAC and could not use it with your Nexus 5 before rejoice!.
So I need a car-charger USB DAC combo ASAP so I can stop using the incredibly weak headphone out.
Does anyone make one?
OMG this is awesome! finally thanks for pointing this out
Successfully tested a Terratec Phase 26 USB with my Nexus 5, analogue and SPDIF outputs work just fine.
Audio IN
It would be even better if an ADC would also be supported. High quality audio INput.
Hmm, anyone with a suitable USB stick to try?
Edit: ac tually: it seems to work. See http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/
Now looking for a good USB stereo mic...

I can confirm, the USB audio input is working. I tested with a cheap usb sound adapter and a simple headphone + mic combo.
Is there a custom ROM or Kernel that allows this? I've tried everything and can't get it to work with the stock 8.0.0 ROM.

I had same problem with same DAC. The only thing I found working was connecting DAC to externally powered USB hub and then hub to 1+3T with USB-C OTG adapter. I think that 1+3T doesn't have enough power for DAC. You can try changing USB CHG to off in DAC settings. Maybe it will help.
I got it to work by enabling storage over OTG and turning off USB charging in the DAC. Only USB Audio app is able to play music still. Other music apps do not send audio over the USB connection.
