Hello,
I recently bought a moto x and it's really quite nice in comparison to the nexus 4.
I got mine off of eBay and an trying to figure out what model it is? (E.g xt1053 or xt1058)
I am currently using a T-Mobile Sim but the person I bought this phone off of said it was a XT1058.
From my understanding the xt1058 is only for ATT?
Is there somewhere I can check to see the model on my phone?
Look at the back of the phone at the bottom of the phone.

EDIT: It's very difficult to read but it does say XT1058.
So this phone has been Sim unlocked which is why I'm able to use the T-Mobile?
Would I still be able to unlock my boot loader? I feel like the two have nothing to do with each other but I guess it's safer to ask then assume things.
Thanks Rhiannon224!
if it's 1058 and it says made in china, it's almost sure u can unlock bl
Just realized everything on the back is in Spanish and it is made in China.
Thanks everyone.
I've read about 15 threads and googled, but can't find a straight answer. If I don't care about warranty or knox, can I root and flash custom roms on the ATT Note 3?
I know you can on Tmobile, but what about ATT?
I checked beforehand that there were N3 roms, but just found out I'm MJ5 and ATT, which is apparently the only hopeless combination, and you can't do anything with it.
I don't really care about warranties though, so if I can root and flash anyways as long as I don't care, I'd rather do that than sell it, is it possible?
Weather M19 or MJ5 you can not flash customs roms at this moment in time. You can root, and they have a member named Raiderman i think, that has a pretty good theme for the stock rom. but no as of now thats the most we can do with our lovely device.
Ouch. Thanks for the intel, guess I should have spent the extra $100 and got an unlocked version, time to sell my poor brand new phone.
Just to clarify, the unlocked version you can flash roms, right? I see lots of roms in international and Tmobile, is it just because they don't use the MJ5 bootloader? MJ5 is ATT specific?

The reason is locked bootloader. It's a nightmare, but theres a good chance it will be overcome.
I am contemplating selling my gn3 for an international.
And also the "unlocked" version, only means you can use it on other carriers.
It's not "UNlocked Bootloader" version.
Although I just seen there IS a developers edition GS4 coming out...
Hopefully Sammy will do this for the N3
I'm not gonna jump ship right away, since root has been acheived.
Has anyone read through the EULA?
WOW its almost right out of a the SOE EULA....
Edit: this is in the wrong forum, I will ask a mod to move it for you You must have missed that big ole stickyup top, lol

Sorry for the wrong thread posting.
I understand the ATT bootloader is locked, and "unlocked" refers to carriers rather than bootloaders in common parlance, but I can visibly see multiple roms for both Tmobile and Unlocked Note 3. So I assume their bootloaders are NOT locked, and only ATT's are, is this correct? In other words, I buy an international or Tmobile one, then I will be able to flash roms, correct? Thanks so much for helping me clarify this.

Yes. With TMobile version you should still be able to get LTE on AT&T network(may need some APN changes).

Are you sure? My understanding is that the hardware is different and that SOME bands will work, while others will not.
Running Good LTE here with a T-Mobile phone on the ATT network

Verizon has a Developer Edition Note 3 available with an unlocked bootloader. Is there another Note 3 variant available with unlocked bootloader that will work with AT&T (including LTE)?
Please look up the T-Mobile version of the phone. Works 100% with AT&T and is easy to unlock for use on AT&T. It has been posted about here dozens of times, should have all the info.

Unlocked bootloader, not carrier unlocked.
I have both T-Mobile and AT&T. I bought the T-Mobile full price, got a $10.00 SIM Card to activate, then paid 34.00 to have it unlocked. All less than 6 hours. Or you can wait 40 days and have it unlocked for free. I was in a hurry, so I paid. This was so that I can connect to my Gear watch. Now with SafeStrap, I loaded x-note7 and have Bluetooth tethering natively. So now I have a T-Mobile I plan to sell off.
Once again for clarity: I'm looking for a phone with a factory-unlocked BOOTLOADER, not unlocked carrier. Like the Verizon Developer Edition phone, except not for Verizon.

There is a big thread in the general section. A search should have found it.
[Guide] Tmobile N3 on AT&T's Network the Unofficial Developer Edition, CM11/KitKat
OMG... does no-one know the difference between an unlocked carrier and an unlocked BOOTLOADER?

The T-Mobile variant has an unlocked bootloader. It is however carrier locked. So you will have to carrier unlock it in order to use it on an AT&T network. So you will have to get it and pay to get it unlocked from the T-mobile network. It is supposed to have an unlocked bootloader and I am pretty sure that is what everyone is trying to tell you, but not in such a clear way.
From what I understand it is only AT&T that had Samsung lock the bootloader because their plan was/is with using KNOX to create a secure network for business customers and make it so the phones could not be easily compromised.
There is not a developer version or unlocked bootloader AT&T phone. If you want to use a phone that is bootloader unlocked on the AT&T network, buy a TMobile phone.

Do we have confirmation anywhere if the bootloader is unlocked on the T-Mobile Note 4?

Haven't seen anything yet, but if T-Mobile's history is any consolation, it should come unlocked. Almost all their phones are.
We can confidently say "yes" according to the past records.

AT&T yes, see my sig.
Verizon?? Well, VZW is CDMA and TMO is GSM. So it won't work on VZW unless the phone is dual GSM and CDMA.
Non locked bootloader
I called samsung today and spoke with a lady and she said that T-mobile has no plans of locking the bootloaders nor does samsung, and that locking bootloaders is solely on the carrier. So, I assume, we can have free reign over our bad a$$ note 4 on T-Mobile... I made the switch to them today from ATT...
I hope the BL is unlocked....I got the z1s and its been damn near depressing to see a device with so much potential be crippled by a locked BL....And its the only reason I'm making the jump to the N4...If the BL is locked on the N4 then I'm opting for the Nexus 6

Thanks for the information on the TMO --> AT&T. I will be using it!
now that some people have the actual note 4 in hand has it been confirmed that the boot loader is unlocked?

I would love to know the answer to this as well.
I see there is a root guide over in TMOB Android Development for root. Doesn't that mean that the boot loader mst be unlocked? I have not tried it yet myself as I was waiting for a SIM unlock and TWRP or CWM first.

no it does not, att and verizon note 3 got root and both had locked bootloaders
We can confirm that Bootloader is unlocked. People have rooted using Chainfire's auto root. Since that method requires an unlocked bootloader, it is 100% confirmed that the bootloader is unlocked.
YAY!!!!

Of course, we all are. Just do a little search. There are threads in all the ATT S3, S4, S5, Note 2 forums including a 700+ post thread in the Note 3 forum.

Okay good. I know it has in the past I am using a T-Mobile G3 with great lte on AT&T but wanted to know for sure
What is the model number of the T Mobile Note 4 that fits this description? Also curious if the Verizon Developer Edition fits this description despite my not being able to find one anywhere.
Does a comprehensive list exist anywhere that shows what USA Carrier branded phones, by make and model, that can and cannot be made to work on carriers which they were not originally branded?

Because Att likes locked bootloaders. Should have got an intl version if you wanted to play around.
The majority of Devs that were here on launch have moved on to better less locked down devices.

The bootloader will probably never be unlocked. Was never unlocked for the s4 either
