Hey Guys,
I picked up a second hand P7 last night, when booting I get stuck in the Huawei logo loop.
I can get into recovery, there doesn't seem to be an update.app for the recovery to load. I get greeting with " THERE IS NO UPDATE.APP" and a lovely fail image
Having trouble getting into the bootloader/fastboot aswell, I have managed it once but cant recreate! The bootloader says it was unlocked though.
I guess this is a tough question, but what is the best thing for me to do?
try to get into fastboot mode (hanging ascend logo)..
flash a boot.img and recovery.img of the desired firmware (try the b621 for p7-L10)..
then take a fresh formatted sdcard and put dload folder with the update.app of b621 on it and do a force update (3btn method)..
the whole process is described several times in this forum
good luck

Just gave it a go with B609, no good. I actually can't get into recovery now
Any other ideas/ versions to try? Thanks for your advice!
Also just tried B830, no joy either booting or getting into recovery!
B135 lets me get to recovery, with the UPDATE.APP on sd card It fails ...
OK, So after trying flashes of 135,609,621,830 and 839 I tried 121.
It worked, I also needed to flash system.img (not sure why)
Now I just need to update all the way back to the top!

Hi everyone,
I am looking for the way to start this phone directly on the fastboot mode as it is softbricked and it doesn't recognise anything (i can't go on recovery, no matter which one) after I flash a stupid update.app of 500 mb
I think I have to flash system.img boot.img and recovery.img
Thanks in advance, it don't go on the fastboot by himself like he did before, after i flashed twrp
Edit: Found, vol - & power while wired to the computer. Gonna see why i can't access even the stock recovery
Press and hold power and vol(-) buttons ... long time. Of course first remember to connecting device to PC by USB. [emoji14]
Hundreds times...it was described on this forum. [emoji26]

New question, I installed the B121 full stock, rom, kernel, everything like when i baught him first day, except of my unlocked BL.
Now, the stock recovery can't install ANY update.app it always write "FAIL" without getting any %, it just fail as it start. I can't find the way to resolve this.
And I got many questions,
Can the recovery of B121 install the B609 ROM?
Can the B609 install B121? I mean how is the retrocompatibility working with this device/recovery?
In a update.app you got many files, boot.img, system.img but also 3rdmodem.img hifi.img modem.img...
What are those files? Why am I not allowed to flash them? Why I could start my device without flashing every files? They aren't necessary? Or they are generated by the "base rom" constitued of boot/system/cust/recovery/userdata?
Also, do I need to be rooted or something to boot on twrp? I can't boot on any other recovery except from B121, even if i extract one from update.app 609...
Thanks in advance
Apparently, trying to get myself to install a clean rom has ended up on me having no rom at all, only FastBoot access and access to TWRP 2.8.1.0. So. How in this world do i install ANYTHING, when apparently every single ROM version patches over the older versions? where do i find a clean stock rom i can install through TWRP? ( Default recovery throws a cust error ). This is kind of getting insane already.
I hate being this kind of person who registers on a forum just to have some ( possibly incredibly stupid ) problems solved. But here i go.
Since i've heard that there's a lollipop update for Android ( literally 2 days ago ), i decided to start an upgrade. Sadly, it seems like somehow when i installed Se7en ROM, i ****ed something up. After looking around i did manage to find a proper copy of TWRP 2.8.1.0 that i could use for recovery, and after fighting a half brick i had following some of the comments left over here i have gotten back to "normal operation"
The device boots normaly but it seems like it won't do anything on Recovery. The bootloader states it's from version 133 so i am trying to install that as i am writting this. With that said, i see a lot of confusion going on on how to update, and the few threads i find with boot and recovery images, seem to be either dead or get my phone stuck on a bootloop. the custom recovery seems to work but it is not doing any IO operations, apparently. If this is relevant, it seems like the caché partition has been broken somehow. something that would easily be fixed, if it weren't because of the fact it isn't writting or reading.
Is there a way i can safely go to stock from where i am? ( i got an unlocked bootloader, so there is that ), and from there on, how do i safely upgrade to a more modern build? All the mirrors for TWRP2870 seem to crash, returning my phone back to the bootloader. And apparently that is mandatory for an upgrade later on.
I apologize for my lack of knowledge on this.
I apparently have deleted my somewhat working system for nothing. I need to have the stock firmware as a ZIP file for it to be flashed. Does anyone have an idea?
Aaaand now, trying to flash an updated bootloader and recovery i am stuck in what looks like a complete full brick.
Go me.
Flash MyRom 1.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2948887) through TWRP. Now you've should got a running system back.
Then flash the emui 2.3 stock Recovery. If you don't find any link the download a B1xx Rom (the last 4 characters of the build-number matters) and extract recovery.img with the huawei update extractor.
After beeing back on stock recocery flash B609 with the normal update-methode. Go on for B621 -> B623 -> B830.
TWRP 2.8.7.0 will work once you updated to at least B609.
I'd been in a comparable situation once again. The correlation of different firmwares/recoverys/custom roms is just confusing when you start dealing with.. So I really can feel with you[emoji14]

Well. i may probably be in trouble since i tried to flash directl ythe B609 bootloader and Recovery from the update.app ( as it looks like 609 is the last known "full" update ), and i can't seem to get back to it. But if i do manage to get enough to flash TWRP again I now know how to get back on track. Right now no matter what buttons do i press, i am stuck at the carrier logo, then it jsut reboots again.
Thank you very much for the reply! i now wish i was patient enough to have waited for this instead of doing a bad flash.
Was there an error or was the B609 Flash successful? Maybe (when you managed to boot into bootloader) flashing TWRP 2.8.1.0 fails now. If so, then try version 2.8.7.0 and use MyRom 3.3.
Did you try connecting your (powered off) device to your PC while pressing volume down permanently? I'm not sure if the phone boots itself now, probably you have to press power, too. Hopefully the phone boots now into bootloader.

Fastboot gave me no failures. it did your typical "sending data .... OK" message. Only remarkable message is that it said that fastboot was informed that the target device only had 800MB ( in bytes ) available for usage. which i fail to recognize as a proper size for any volume that the device could contain.
I could not get into either the recovery or the bootloader, i even tried to press all three buttons and see if i could initiate a update, at least to know if the recovery worked. No luck.
I don't have my phone right now with me since i'm out and i am using an older, backup phone, but i will definetly try once i get back. and give it another try, maybe doing it coldly will make it work.
Hey all. I was trying to rollback my P9 to a stock ROM, but it failed and now I am stuck with a bricked P9 (bootloop).
My phone is a European P9 (EVA-L09C432). I have an unlocked bootloader.
- Huawei eRecovery and HiSuite restore does not work.
- I've tried forcing the update using the SRK Tool brick utility, but receive the message "FAILED (remote: sparse flash write failure)" when it's strats writing 'system'.
- My TWRP backup does not work, I had a 7GB backup that installs fine, but the phone is still stuck in a bootloop.
- I can flash EVA-L09C432B378 ROM using the SRK brick utility fine, but the phone is still stuck in a bootloop.
- After I have installed B378 and try to force flash B136 using the dload method, it either gets stuck on the "going into restore mode" or it goes to the "installing package" screen, where it is stuck at 5% until it reboots.
Any suggestions?
try one more time install rollback package by download mode
I've tried. Several times, all day :crying: My process:
Write TWRP from fastboot so I can boot into TWRP and transer UPDATE.app to the dload folder
Reboot into fastboot
Write stock recovery image from fastboot
Boot into recovery mode
Get stuck at 5% on the "Installing update" screen.
I've tried the UPDATE.app or firmware B136 (stock), and UPDATE.app for B378 (Nougat)
Both get stuck at 5%.
I'm stuck at the bootloop
isn't srk tool only for MM?
maybe try extract recovery , boot and system partition from b378 and flash by fastboot , next start flash rollback package by download mode
I noticed when I tried to restore my backup using TWRP it failed at "vendor" (Failed to wipe vendor). I receive this issue at vendor and product.
I tried using fastboot to flash vendor and product manually, I receive these error messages:
"failed: remote command not allowed"
The phone won't allow me to write vendor and product.img... but my bootloader was unlocked?
Is it possible I could have relocked my bootloader? How am I supposed to get the bootloader code for my P9 again :/ It's nearly impossible.
I managed to use the recovery dload method to install a beta version of B378 (build number NRD90M test-keys). Will now try to use the recovery method to roll back to B136 and update back to B378 again.

Same problem here! Did you resolve?
Thanks you.
Try unplug charger or usb cable then do it

So I stupidly formatted the system when I was trying to upgrade from b383 to b388 iv tried everything to get it to work again. I extracted the system.img and tried to fastboot it but it fails iv tried huawei dload method but all I get is a red !. I relocked boot loader also to see if that will help with dload method. So if anyone can help I'd much appreciate it.
Hallo all,
i´ve got some problems with my huawei p9. I have flashed the newest TWRP Custom Recovery (3.1.1.-0) to both recovery partitions (recovery and recovery2), and an open Bootloader.
Now i have tried to install the newest firmware for my Phone (EVA-L09C4321B398). There are 3 Files:
-update.zip
-update_data_full_public.zip
-update_full_EVA-L09_hw_eu
in every guid is written that i have to install the update.zip first. I have tried this and get an error:
https://picload.org/view/daowaddl/screenshot_2018-03-10-08-44-14.png.html
so the update cant be installed.
The next thing i have tried is to install it via "dload" folder. At first i have flashed back the STOCK recovery to recovery. (recovery2 is still TWRP). Then i have copied the UPDATE.APP to the "dload" folder on my SD Card.
Now i have booted in the stock recovery (Vol + and Vol- Pressed) now it starts the update but has also an error:
https://picload.org/view/daowaagw/2m7sv4i.jpg.html
In this case i have tried to download another packet of firmware and another and so on.... every time the same s***.
for every step i have whiped and formated the partitions.
now i´m unable to boot in the system because i cant install a stock firmware. if i try to boot normal the device stocks on boot screen. And i have made no backup of the partitions befor i have tried to istall the firmware.
Here are the Datas of the Phone:
-Device: Huawei P9
-Model: EVA-L09
-Firmware before flash: EVA-L09C432B397
-EMUI_ 5.0.1
-Android version: 7.0
Anyone an idea?

Hi! You might want to try doing what I did when I was trying to update my phone to the latest version. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75788148&postcount=13 (For the HWOTA procedure that I was referring to, here's the thread link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/eva-nocheck-recovery-flash-unapproved-t3705125).
I can attest to it that it was a clean install. I was able to install updates as well through System Update (I didn't reinstall TWRP after).

Old guides, your method worked for FullOTA-MF-PV builds, but new Huawei builds are no more PV. So wait for OTA, flash HWOTA.zip or use no-check recovery method
I call Huawei Hotline for this issue before. My phone is P9 plus, they told me so far they dont have any system update information about model which is below P10 series version yet. They just ask me waiting for system push message.
