Rcs - T-Mobile LG G4

Just noticed this morning when texting the wife
The 6.0 update included rcs for the stock messaging app
Works over WiFi calling and video calling works as well

I've seen people report this but whenever I tried it's just the same regular one as L. Does it only work over WiFi calling? But switched to cm now so I guess it doesn't matter.

RCS?

Yes, I'm curious, what is RCS?

Rich communication services (T-Mobile advanced messaging) its similar to imessage or WhatsApp just allows you to see when someone has read or is typing also allows for sending of larger MMS sizes I believe.

It must only work between G4's because i only see it when texting my friend who has one but nobody else.

My wife has a galaxy s5 and I can see it when she's texting me and she also see's it when I'm texting her.

hmmm, I wonder why mine doesn't work with others. Maybe i need to do a reset, since my wifi is acting up also.

It only works with other devices that have the RCS update.

How can you turn RCS off? I like to ignore sms messages frequently and don't want the sender to know I'm not getting back right away.

MMS not functioning while on Wifi

I have a weird issue that when my nexus 6 is connected to wifi, it can't send or receive mms messages. In the Google messaging app, it shows mms as failing to download. The second I turn off wifi though, everything goes through, both sending and receiving. My nexus 5 on lollipop had the same issue. Has anyone else on 5.0 experienced this? I couldn't find anything on the AOSP bug list. I am unencrypted, rooted and have TWRP.

That's been my experience with every device I've ever owned on both Sprint and T-mobile. Nothing out of the ordinary there
That's unfortunate. What's weird is that my nexus 5 with kitkat had it working just fine. I guess I'll just hop the wifi calling fixes it whenever that comes out.
My Nexus 6 doesn't like to send texts while on wifi. It takes a very long time for them to send but if I flip wifi off they send immediately. I haven't tried MMS but I suspect it would be a similar experience. I just leave wifi off at home now. I get LTE anyway and have unlimited data.
I had this problem at first, but seems to work fine now. Only thing different I did was change APN protocol to IPV4/IPV6 instead of IPV6. I read somewhere switching it to IPV4 solves MMS problems, but so far the combo has worked for me. Not sure if that was the issue though, worth a shot.
Now if I could fix my general signal issue, that'd be great =/
I hope this helps. It worked for me when I had the note 4 but now I'm getting a Nexus, don't have one to test this on yet but you guys can.
In short you can try setting up an APN with the MMS port as 80 because right now its probably blank.

I'm having the same issue on Cricket with my Nexus 6. Rooted, stock 6.0. With my wifi turned ON, I can not send or receive any grouped messages. I cannot send or receive any MMS messages.
I use the stock messaging app.
There doesn't seem to be a solution. I've quadruple checked the APN. Made sure the MMS Port is set to 80, nothing has worked. I feel other solutions like Using a Different Messaging App, or remove every App are bandaids for symptoms. Not solutions for the problem.

The issu could be due to the app not switching over to data properly when needed. This could also be a radio issue among other things. Without a logcat to tell where and why it is failing everyone is just shooting in the dark.

A logcat is trouble shooting 101. Just search for how to do one and you will get a few tut. It does need root sometimes so keep that in mind.
I had major mms issues on T-Mobile. I did some searching and changed the apn. I also now use hangouts for SMS/mms, and all is well again. I could not send mms at all before with WiFi on. Make sure your apn is correct for your carrier. Mmsc was blank right out of the box on T-Mobile.

I am on T mobile and it had worked fine until 6.0.
I was on cricket and had this issue; drove me insane. I finally ported my number to Google Voice and started a new line with cricket. With GV handling all the SMS/MMS through Hangouts, I haven't had any issues, whether it be on wifi or not. Might be worth considering.

[Q] iPhone to G4 MMS Issues

Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. My girlfriend recently left Verizon (on iPhone 5) and took her number to T-Mobile. She decided to buy the LG G4 (I have the G3 on Verizon and she really liked it) but is having issues with receiving picture or group messages from other iPhones. I can message her fine, and I don't have any issues receiving these messages on my G3 (on Verizon). If we are on the same thread, sometimes she won't get the message until I or another android user responds to it.
When she left Verizon they told her that iPhone users would have to turn iMessage off & on in order for it to work, but that has led to mixed results. She will get a few group messages or picture messages from certain recipients but inevitably will end up missing another one (her texting app will show "New MMS Message" and a download button, but pressing that doesn't do anything). She's contacted T-Mobile but all they ever say is to reboot her phone, or clear the Messaging app data. Generally this fixes it temporarily, but unable to fix completely.
Since I'm unfamiliar with T-Mobile and the G4, I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences with this? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

If she's getting the MMS notification, then it's not related to iMessage. How long has it been since she switched? I believe some messages might get routed to the wrong carrier for a while.
I have been with T-Mobile for a long time and have not had MMS issues with any of the phones I have used. I have a G4 at the moment and MMS work fine with everyone (including iOS users). Group messaging can be tricky when dealing with iPhones though, I have missed some messages before, I get no notification, they're just lost. If the message is not being downloaded, I would make sure the APN settings are correct on her G4.
She can also try a different SMS app. I use Textra and it lets you manually configure an APN if the system one is having issues.

Thanks. I actually just recommended she try Textra and it seems to be holding up for now. As far as APN settings go, where is the most reliable place to find the correct ones? I see them posted all over the internet but am not sure what is new/legitimate. Would T-Mobile be able to provide them?

Yes, T-Mobile should be able to provide them, but her phone should already have the right ones, especially if it's a T-Mobile branded device.
Mine is (on my T-Mobile branded G4)
T-Mobile LTE
APN fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
APN type default, supl, mms
APN protocol IPV6

There are a lot of threads about this, the TMo G4 has issues downloading MMS for some reason. In group chats that are MMS it's even worse. I finally gave up on the G4 because it loses too many messages and can't download half the ones that it does get.

Anyone try changing APN to epc.tmobile.com? Just changed this myself, going to test it out
Figured it out
I mentioned in another thread... I used Textra and it has a special setting that fixes this issue.

Ah yes! The Wi-Fi calling fix? That can solve some issues when using Textra if you use WiFi calling, but the stock app should take care of that.
I haven't had any issues with group MMS, so I wonder if those that are having them are on WiFi and with WiFi calling enabled when they have these issues.
I don't know if it helps with WiFi calling or not! But it fixed my MMS sending and receiving problem!

MMS on Textra (Android N)

Anyone experiencing MMS failing to send or receive on Android N? I was fine on dev 3 and when I switch to stock messenger I'm fine although I don't get any notifications that it doesn't send or receive like i get from Textra.
I've tried the manual settings in Android and in Textra and even turned off wifi to try it but it doesn't work. A reboot will work for awhile and then eventually it'll fail.

I know this is a year old but just in case you or anyone else is racking their brains out re: MMS failure to send or receive - looks like a Nougat issue that can only be rectified by a carrier firmware update:

MMS not working - "Message not downloaded"

I'm very surprised nobody else has posted about this...I cannot get MMS to work with either my AT&T or my Verizon SIM card. I've checked APN settings for both, and both look perfect.
It shows that I've received a message, and I have an option to click download, but it never downloads and after a few hours I get a notification saying "Message not downloaded."
Does anybody have any insight?
That is literally the only quirk I have with this phone. Beyond that, it's by far the best device I've ever owned.

Usually there are 2 apns 1 to send and receive SMS and 1 for both xiaomi are careful you don't encur any extra charges from your network I never turn on MMS, just send everything by email.

Thanks, but unfortunately not helpful. I've already been through the APN settings. Email doesn't solve the problem of receiving MMS messages from people.

I'm not on AT&T but the issue is the same. Have exact same APN settings I do in 3 other phones that work flawlessly.
Use textra.
I couldn't get it to work in hangouts.
Use textra and make sure to check mms behaviour "system"
No need for apn settings
I'm on at&t straight talk and this definitely works
What is "MMS behavior system" is that a setting in Textra.

You never turn on MMS? Holy ****. What's the point of having a almost $1000 cell phone if you have to use email in place of MMS?

For some reason UK charges on MMS are ridiculous, well at least on my network.
For whatever reason, it started working. I only did one thing; I disabled my number 1 sim and made number 2 my primary data (1 was AT&T and 2 was Verizon.) I also made sure my WiFi was disabled before I started. Then I reversed the change, and all of a sudden every missing MMS started downloading, and I got them all.
No idea if what I did made a difference, or how, or even if it will stay working, but thought maybe somebody would like to give it a shot.

I actually don't know anyone who's using MMS around me, and I thought it's an outdated tech just like SMS. I live in UK also, maybe it's just not that popular here. Why would you use MMS when you have all these new chating apps which you can send anything you want for free (as long as you have data)?
Yo. I work for ATT and have the att nxtgenphone APN settings. Works fine.
Let me know if you need them.
.
I'd also download pulse. Let it set up then if you don't like it switch back to your preferred SMS app. That worked for me.
I'm using AT&T and can receive MMS. Group texts are another issue (they're simply unsupported by xiaomi across MIUI, google), but pictures and what not works fine. I use the default "ATT Phone" which comes preloaded. It works fine and allows 4G.
Im on ATT and it seems like I can't receive MMS, but I can send them. Can someone who this works for post their APN settings?
Edit: nxtgenphone works. Turns out Facebook Messenger was just ****ing it up for me. When it's my default SMS app, I can't receive or send MMS. Does anyone know what is up with that? I've had MMS problems on 3 phones now with Messenger...

Did not know this was a issue...I got the mi mix a week ago and have been trying different messaging apps, even gave up project fi... all because Group Texting was not working. I got picture messages to work, but the group texting simply won't work. Is there a workaround? Even potentially getting it to work with a different ROM?

Only messaging app that works for MMS group messages is TEXTRA
I'm having the same issue with both Verizon and T-mobile, nor does MMS or group SMS work. The interesting thing is that I'm also having issue with VoLTE (can't get online while on the phone), I'm wondering if it's related.
Hi guys,
Can y'all please try NEXT SMS and see if it work. Once you downloaded, open the app and inn the top left drop down, select More, then hit Setting, then select All on the right side, select MMS setting, then enter your carrier MMSC and PORT only. Carrier setting= Manual. Ok the bottom, or a check mark for using data for mms. Custom user agent= iPhone. Mms framework= smart.
Hope this help, it worked for me on Verizon

Note 8 - text messages (SMS) issue

For past week or two I have been having sms issues. Some of my friends send me sms and they dont get through. It not related to specific provider ( I had issues receiving txt from Sprint and T-mobile and also at&t) Any ideas what could be causing random missing texts ?

Update PRL and Profile under System Update in Settings and see if that resolves your issues. [emoji6]

already tried that several times - no luck
I had the same issue. I have Google Voice integration, so I can check through the app if my text messages were coming in.
This is how I fixed my issue, but your milage may vary.
So a few weeks ago I added "DUN" to the apn to get the hotspot mod working on my phone so I could tether my laptop while on the go. Then I realized some MMS messages were coming in up to a day late. Then I realized I wasn't getting many text messages, so I checked Google Voice and it showed many unanswered replies. I connected the dots, after updating the profile, prl, clearing cache, doing data diagnostics, and many hours of hair pulling. I use texting for work often, so I needed to fix this.
Then I realized that I did the hotspot mod, and gave it a random chance that perhaps this was my problem. I removed the "DUN" from the apn and rebooted, sent a few test messages, and I started to receive all the messages just fine. I doubt changing the apn would prevent texts from showing up, but I've seen phones do crazy things before.
So if you did the hotspot mod, disable that/undo it/revert it back to default apn. And go in and manually check that the "DUN" is no longer there. If you didn't do the hotspot mod, then I have no idea how to help ya bro.
But give this a shot, because that's what helped me.
Call sprint. Have them turn off your phone. Let them reset the data and voice for your phone. Then you turn it back on and dial ##72786#. This should fix all the data on your phone.
