[Q] About note 5 N920F or N920T ? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a new galaxy note 5, on the box (menu, settings, about) it shows N920F witch dosn't exist in sammobile.
When I tried to root with this file "CF-Auto-Root-trlte-trltexx-smn910f", in the download mode it shows N920T witch is a T-mobile variant of galaxy note 5 look here
I don't know what recovery or root to use: N920F or N920T ?
Is my phone converted? Because I saw some samsung S3 (I9300) et S4 (I9500) that were converted form sprint S3 (I727, I747, ..)
Thank you

Hi,
The first link sorry but it's an error (on some "not very serious websites" they tag the N920C as a "N920F" as it is compatible in Europe), the second link reports just a N920F saw at the FCC, nothing new since and the third link:
N920i...
And on Sammobile about N920F:
Like already said there is no N920F (yet).
By editing the build.prop file (ro.product.model) I can show you a N920F in settings / about or whatever you want.

Ok, there is no N920F, what's the phone I have ?
Odin mode says N920T but I can't root it with N920T root (tried this Noble_Kernel_Auto-Root_N920T and this Noble_Kernel_Auto-Root_N920T_v0.1_Rebuid3)
I can't install custom recovery (Tried this TWRP-2.8.7.1-Alpha_N920T.tar.md5)
I tried many things but no result
Can I flash it with N920T rom ?
Can any one tell me please ?

Just try phone info application
You'll see what is the original manufacturer details

Hoping to flash my SM-N9208 Note 5 with another official ROM

Im not sure if anyone has the answer to this...
I happened to be in Taiwan at the weekend when the Note 5 launched.
I visited an official concession at a department store where I had the opportunity to ask the salesman a few questions. He assured me that the model (N9208), would be the same one that would be launching in the Philippines (where I live). I took his word for it and purchased the phone. I had the opportunity to visit a Samsung store today to find that the software (keyboard etc) is very different on the Philippines version (still an N9208)!
I love the phone but English (UK) is my first language and the Philippine version supports it much better than the Taiwanese version. The handwriting pad is the most noticeable difference as it is set up for inputting characters as opposed to writing sentences...
I was hoping to change this; N9208ZTU1AOH3_N9208ZZT1AOH3_BRI
to this; N9208XXU1AOGE_N9208OLB1AOGF_XTC
I was hoping to keep it as official as possible.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Why do people do this? Buy a phone that's not for a region they live in cause they "can't wait" or some other excuse? If I want a phone for the US, I'm not going to go to the UK to get it......

Ok, nvm LOL. Didn't think of it that way, forgot there is no UK launch for Note 5.
No custom ROMs (or even root) yet, I believe -- but I'm a Note 4 user and I sometimes use Google's own handwriting keyboard in place of Sammy's solution. It installs as an alternate keyboard.
I find that It works best when paired with Google's own keyboard. Both should be available to download on your device since Google now releases their apps on a stand-alone basis (i.e. it won't replace your stock Sammy keyboard).
Hope that helps while you wait for a custom ROM.

Thank you. I have been using Stylus Beta from the Play store in the meantime. The google one was great but I have found writing sentences much more fluid with the stylus app. I recommend checking it out!
Cheers for the input!

just flash it with odin...they are compatable.......all the firmware for n9208 will flash no problem
youve given me an idea to do it now ,,,,i have same problem
just curious why you picked xtc firmware
Hi, the firmware I picked is from the Philippines. English is widely spoken, especially in business etc so it's the best bet for full English support of the N9208 I believe. I think the firmware I picked is the carrier free version although I need to double check.
I'm very tempted to use Odin but my only holdup is Knox. Samsung pay is launching imminently and I would hate to miss out if my phone becomes unofficial!
Any idea if it would be effected?

Yes, you need to enable 'OEM unlock' before you can flash with Odin. Same happened on my N920C when i tried to flash a custom kernel: always failed until I changed the OEM unlock.

Don't think this have anything to do with it as i remember seeing that on my Galaxy S6 as well.
Could you try to flash another compatible software? I had the same problem once with my S6 which was LUX, tried to flash a firmware from the Netherlands on it and would fail as well, but then tried a French one and it flash without problems.
Or you might want to go look if there's a solution in the Galaxy S6 (and Edge) forums. I wasn't the only one with that problem but since I could flash the French firmware i've never bothered to further look into it.

Did you have any joy with Odin in the end? There were more firmwares to try on Sammobile if that particular one is a dud. I'm tempted to have a go now but I'm far from an expert

Which firmwares have you tried flashing on your N9208 ? I was gonna try to flash the N920T firmware on my N9208. I have a t-mobile sim in my N9208 and I want wifi calling and the new t-mobile video calling feature.
I only tried n9208 firmwares on sammobile... Malaysia... Philippine... and some unknown ones
never thought trying others...
could others be used safely?
I just wanted to change keyboard because chinese characters keep coming up!

the one that fails is the modem I dont know why ,maybe if someone could provide as with a flashable modem zip (of n920c for example) would be great.
To change just the system
I unziped the firmware of the n9208 then I replaced the cache.img and system.img with the ones of a n920c rom.
then build up the tar file and flashed with odin. Rooted and flashed TPWR after.
everything works except nfc probable from the baseband that is different.
Thats why I am asking of a flashable modem..
Tried Dr.Ketans rom also but I lost signal.

How to restore IMEI of Samsung Galaxy note 9? It was changed by second hand seller.

I purchased a used samsung galaxy note 9 from a second hand seller to save costs. turns out the imei of the phone has been changed and belongs to some other samsung phone. is there a way to restore my original phone(SM-N960F) imei number? it is necessary so that I can exchange my phone. I think you have not understood my problem. I purchased the phone from a reseller. When I checked the IMEI on internet, it does not belong to Samsung galaxy note 9. It seems the reseller duped me. Now I am trying to figure if there is a way I can restore the original IMEI?
One other XDA member checked my phone over wysor. he saw the build number and concluded that my phone is a chinese model and it is not original. do you think you can still help me?

You can use the software to check it yourself!
No, if you don't have the original IMEI number you are asking for someone else's...
No other way to get an original Note 9 IMEI.
Are you sure the phone isn't rooted with a custom ROM installed as this also can change, not the IMEI but the model number of the phone to get features to work. To check, go to settings>about phone> and check the rom version.
You could also put it in bootloader mode and check KNOX=0x0 instead of 0x1 but there are ways to, cosmetically, change this to look like Knox hasn't been tripped.
Changing IMEI's is illegal in most parts of the world so not much help will be found here.

If Knox is 0x1 then the phone has been rooted.
A quick search here or in google will give you the steps to get to bootloader mode.
If IMEI has indeed been changed then, without the original IMEI, you are screwed...
Best bet would be to return to seller and get money back as you may have stolen phone.

Got the phone checked by another helpful member on here. Apparently the phone is not original Samsung but has some Chinese build. As per him there's nothing that I can do. The seller has just disappeared and won't answer the calls. Guess I am screwed.
It's not a modification of the IMEI, just a copy of an IMEI to make it support dual SIM, if you don't like it, you can flash the official firmware, the official firmware only shows one IMEI!
