Is there a way to increase the quality of the contact photos in Android 6? I've noticed when I receive a phone call, through Google Hanouts especially, the photo quality is HORRIBLE! Very, very pixelated.
Are there any tweaks or add-ons to fix this?

what size photo did you use? if you use a tiny photo, it'll look like that, as it is made larger. use a large photo and it looks decent. the size of the photo is its quality.

The original photo was 2340 × 4160, then the OS cropped it to size when adding it to the contact, so I don't know what size it ended up being. It seems like the majority of the contact photos look this way. It's very rare for one to actually look good.
Maybe the trick is to pre-size them to the right aspect ratio, then select it as a contact photo so no cropping is needed?

2340x4160 is, or should be, fine. all the contact photos I see on my phone appear fine, but I only added mine(and its fine as well).
If you're rooted and use xposed framework work you can download a module called "Clarity", and that's its main purpose is to increase the quality of contact photos. I use it myself and it works great.

Just installed it the other day, from the XDA Thread that the app points too, it shows as development had stopped on it. Plus, from what I could gather, it only "enhanced" the Thumbnail portion of the contact display, not the full screen contact that shows up when someone calls.
Bummer.
Try adding the pic on a computer and sync via Google. This used to be an issue for a long time on Android, but Google did finally fix it awhile ago.

I can't tell how to fix it but I've noticed the following:
1. When someone from my contact list calls my Google Voice number, Hangouts displays a very pixelated contact image. It's like Hangouts took the small/low-res thumbnail from the chat/SMS section and scaled it all the way up instead of using the full res image from Contacts.
2. On the other hand, when I receive a direct Hangouts call or video call, the caller's contact image is perfectly displayed.

Hi,
I am very pleased with my galaxy note,.i do not spend as much time on my laptop any more since a got the Note.
I noticed when i try to send a picture that has a geotag, it gets throw to the reciever phone but with no location information. i am not sure if that a Setting type of thing, but it sounds more like a secuirty issue, so u do not send ur privat location over an open network.
I really needed to send a picture with my location the other day and i could note , since then i have been trying to find a way but with no luck.
Any suggestions.? :victory:
More details on how were you trying to send.
Some sharing services send a compressed version stripped of meta data.
Some camera apps don't support geotags.

AFAIK, if you are sending the original photo without compressing, then geotag also should be sent..
Copy the photo to ur PC, right click>properties>details & see if you can see the "GPS" field & "longitude, lattitude & altitude".. check both the files, ie, the one u sent & the one ur frnd received (ask ur frnd to check the same thing in the photo he received)..then u wl b able to find out what exactly the issue is
Its just a suggestion to find out what exactly the problem is & not a solution

I tried to send via multple platformbut with no luck to get the location.
I have tried Samsung note, sony arc,Samsunge epic.
I verified every time before i send the pic that it has geotag. But once it gets to the reciever the it drops it. Which makes me think that the sender phone drops the location in the compress stage.
WhatsApp will compress your photo and strip metadata.
Evidence?
See sdcard/whatsapp
I can suggest trying to use another service to send a link to the full file via whatsapp or others.

Try sending via email without compressing & see the result..
Auto Stamper application has an accessible feature to stamp Geolocation to photo. This app allows you add geotag location to photo when captured with smartphone
default camera.
You can make Geotag text more delightful with various style, size, color and position as per your photo background.
So download the app and enjoy your photography with Geotagging.
Hello!
Previously had the HTC Sensation XE and am now migrated to the HTC one
On the ONE all contact pictures are displayed pixelated. All the apps, which should solve the problem do not work. Also, I turned off the sync with Google without success.
Do anyone have any advice or a solution?
cheers
PS: On the Sensation Xe all contact pictures were displayed without problems!
If you have the contact photos stored on your phone then re-choose them one by one it will solve the problem.
Some of my contacts I synchronised them from their facebook accounts and their photos were clear but the ones synchronised from Google were not
Hope this helps.

If you don't sync, then that is the issue.
Because the resolution of the screen is high, HTC made it display the low-res images with the pixellated look. When you sync the contacts with facebook or google then the high-res images are downloaded and displayed without the pixellation effect

This happens when the contact pic are of low resolution..try manually putting a new contact image for someone..and check it then..it will be clear..not pix-elated..
this is a well known issue with google, if you attach a picture from your gallery the resolution will stay. after sync with google, the picture gets downsized and resulting in low res pictures. had this issue with my past android phones and it's all over the net. some pics will "retain" their quality, but not as much as attaching pictures for the first time, you can see low res pictures when you click the contacts and see them in circles. hope this helps :cyclops:

I apologize if this is a duplicate, I did the search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone tried the gif feature. I have 2 issues with it.
1) whenever I create a gif, the auto focus is in the gif (yellow circle). Anyone know how to get rid of that? It doesn't stay long, but just enough to be annoying.
2) Sharing- no matter how long the gif, it's too large for sms. I tried standard quality and I believe it gave me the same message. And it looks terrible in standard. I had to actually upload it to Google Drive and send a link.
I would appreciate any feedback.

1) are you sure that ring isn't for face detection
2) Try making a gif in standard quality and keeping it under 1mb in size. Send it to yourself to see if it goes through, I believe gif are sent as mms
Sharing GIFs on Instagram and Facebook/Coming out as a pic???
Hello,
I just recently purchase my Note 7 and it is great! However, my issue with the GIF is sharing ANYWHERE. I have tried to share on Instagram and Facebook and the GIF comes out as a picture only. Can someone tell me why please?
I'm not sure why this happens but when I create a gif and attempt to send it right away it always sends as a single shot image. If I wait an hour or so before sending, it sends as a gif. Go figure.

1. Such quality after synchronization. (4-6 KB), after a screenshot is even less.
2. If you allow yourself photos 5.97 MB. after the screenshot remains of 1.26 MB and after optimization for (JPEG 359 KB) Here is an example of such a photo. The cursor is positioned in the photo. View how much is left from 5,97 MB

I agree, it is easy when you have root.
Why you need a contact.apk, on previous versions of Android need to fix InCallUI. apk
On Mate9-L29 c185d158 sure there is a large photo on incoming calls. On outgoing the photo as if superimposed semi-transparent mask
P.S. By the way, how do you like these Contacts
thanks this is great....
when u receive a call the photo is blurry while for same contact when u make the call the photo is clear and full screen
why?????
Hello
I have a problem with the photos of the caller. Some pictures are displayed in full screen and others are displayed small.

Usually a small photo after synchronization. Try reinstalling the photo in the contact.
Thanks.
I want a small photo, like a small photo. How to make them everywhere?
So how do i display photo for outgoing calls. All pics are blurry. Incoming calls no problem
All fine and good, but where can we find this update for this firmware? It was asked several times here, but no answer...pity.
Huawei mate 10 lite
Hello. I have huawei mate 10 lite and I am facing contact pictures issue. On some of the calls the picture shows in full size, some pictures shows in small circle and some doesn't even show. I have updated the phone do everything I can do but still facing the same issue. Please help me......
Second issue is battery draining issue. Battery drains so fast. I even visited to service center and they updated the software. So the pho e was working good for first 10 to 12 days and then slowly slowly it came back to its real condition like battery drains so fast. My usage is limited and I don't use any power intensive app. Before facing this issue my phone battery was good to go for atleast 32 hours but since I started facing this issue, it doesn't even last for 24 hours. Help me please in both the cases. I did all the stuff I can do and provide you all the information that I could do. Help me. Thanks.

I noticed that when coming from the S8 plus to the Note 8 the stadt gallery no longer allows precise adjustments in the gallery app. For example..
You can no longer finely-tuned a filter like in the gallery app on the S8 Plus. It's pretty much their filter the way they like it. Even in the vignette, you can't adjust it whatsoever.
Anyone notice this?

The phone's not even been officially released yet bro... give them a chance to update the apps :silly:
Not really an excuse when almost the entire world has had it since September 5th
I'm also noticing that the stock gallery no longer has the option for advanced photo editing options. I loved being able to adjust curves, tone, and other precise adjustments right in the stock app. Why would they take this away on the power user device? Anybody know of any impending updates?

Found that the other day, but how do you make that the DEFAULT? This "update" is NOT an improvement. And I think I just confused the heck out of two Samsung agents this morning trying to explain what I wanted to do. If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.
I've also posted in the Samsung Community forum, but you'll have to hunt for it, since I'm new to xdadevelopers and can't share the link here.
