I just switched over to T-Mobile with a Note 4 T3 running DOK2 from Verizon with a S5. I tried rooting a couple of days ago and soft bricked my phone. Luckily somehow I got the phone back to stock and running fine. I have also searched these forums for hours trying to find a tutorial on how to root this phone with a simple explanation. I have used Odin for years to root but never had to change kernels or anything really in depth. Is there an easier way to root? Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
I hope this helps
You can try cf auto root

Sorry another noob just joined the forum.
I have been researching periodically for about a month now and jumped in last week and attempted to root my phone. I believe that I rooted it after upgrading to 2.27.651.5. I could not successfully flash the recovery.img.
The program that pops up on the phone gave me an error message. Should I root the phone again from the beginning?
After this is successful all I have to do is load a ROM onto the phone and I will be set am I right? As of right now my rooted? phone is having problems connecting to the mobile network and I can only connect to the WiFi networks to get internet.
Sorry for being such a noob. I have tried searching and researching but the terms used are unintentionally geared towards people who know about this stuff unlike me.
Thanks for any help.
Just want to say you have an awesome username lol. Hopefully someone can help you out
If your phone was successfully rooted then yes all you would have to do is load a ROM and you'd be all set but it seems like your phone didn't get rooted. When you root a phone correctly it won't interfere with anything already on the phone, it will just add functionality. When I rooted my hero I had to drop from the .6 build to the .5 and after I rooted it my gps and such didn't work so it might have been the build I downloaded onto the phone or the rooting process I used was wrong. I would try to wait until a dev puts together a guide on how to root the .6 build(the latest Android 2.1 build) and then root it. I have some experience with rooting so ill keep looking for a .5 build that works properly after being rooted and if I find one ill let you know what to do and all that fun stuff. And you do have a pretty awesome user name if you have any other questions email me at [email protected]

Long story short I had 2 Nexus 5's, sold one on Swappa and bought a Note 3. It's currently rooted and running DynamicKat via Safestrap. I'd like to return it to stock or stock rooted as soon as I get it and I just want to make sure I go about that the correct way. I like to know how to root/rom my device myself instead of relying on someone else, and I want to make sure there is nothing leftover on the phone from the previous owner.
I've been reading and found the NC2 Odin Files thread, downloaded the files already. I then found Carl1961's SoftBrick thread. Between the two I think I have the process down but reading the softbrick thread it seems a bit out of order as far as returning to stock.
Is there a good step by step instructions on returning to stock, doing a full wipe and the rooting the N3? Also is Towelroot the method for root? Just install the apk and I'm good?
Don't want to sound like a newb but playing with Nexus hardware is much easier I had an S3 but I think it was easier to mess with than the Note 3 is from what I remember. Anyway thanks in advance, looking forward to the Note!

All you need to do is flash the 4 Odin files. That will wipe everything and get you 100% stock. To root all you need to do is download and run towelroot. This is outlined in the first part in Carl's softbrick thread just follow the instructions for the 4 file install.
Well that coudn't have been easier. Restored to stock, rooted via Towelroot, Busybox and SuperSu installed, KNOX disabled. Installed the GEL launcher and I'm good to go! Now it's time to install my screen protector and case.
So this might be a noob question, or answered elsewhere in the forum, but I can't find my exact answer or my phone. For the record rooting wasn't this difficult when I had my HTC Incredible before joining the Apple side for almost 2 years. Anyways I tried to root and successfully did so via towelroot, but upon trying to install liquid smooth rom (if there's any other rom's that are good on battery/ram please let me know haha) I got the dreaded take this phone to a Verizon store message. Well I flashed back to stock via Odin, but I still want to root my device in order to install some sort of rom that'll be nicer to my battery and would appreciate any help that can be given! Thanks in advance guys!
Did you manage to flash a recovery?
Any way to root this device?
What rom to Flash if possible.
Can you install clockwork recovery mod?
Thank your for your answers or any help you provide.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Im wanting to remove the bloatware and well as run some other rooted applications. So any help is greatly appreciated.
It's been a month or two I have been researching and found nothing will any prerooted roms work on this? Can I flash recovery to this it's under BlueGrass cellular what more info does anyone need I'm to the point of paying a donation to whoever helps me out. Thank you
Yep
I rooted my SM-N920R6 a few months ago. I have a post explaining the process. I'll look for the post now. However yes I know it's frustrating. I soft bricked my phone and had to research this for three days before finding the solution because the SM-N920R6 is a variant that is not widely used (only a couple of local carriers as far as I know).
Here is the process to root and unroot the SM-N920R6 (root directions at the lower portion of the post).

Just bought this AT&T Note 3 off Craigslist, guy, owned it over a year, and it's running the latest Lollipop 5.0 OC2, so,spent the better of the past four hours reading and searching, just keep seem back to the same question
Is there a root for OC2? Or should I follow the current instructions telling me to downgrade to either (some say OC1), some say (4.4.2 Kit Kat), then towelroot, safestrap, then using safestrap reflash prerooted, unbloated, OC1? Sorry guys not new to all this just alot of info and trying to find my way through the weeds
Any help would be appriciated more than you would ever know, I know we're all busy, just need pointed to the one right way, thanks
Follow the instructions to downgrade.
