I installed it on my phone too and it works perfect.
You don't need to ota... If there will be update to 6.0.1 or something like that, I believe you could dirty flash the update without problems.
Removing the ota was to prevent people from bricking their phone because of some reasons and this is the best solution for that.

apprecaited, i just installed it, and i found it still have whats app and some other application i installed on verizon rom, i wied every thing on twrp and that even removed the os, am doing it again now,.
thanks for your time

Same here. Purchased the phone in November, unlock bootloader straight away and received JB update without any problems (orange.en). Where did you hear there is any problem?

Yup, 4.1.2 from Retail.EU
thread
I saw it on a thread here on Q&A about avoiding bricks it says if you unlocked bootloader you shouldn't accept OTA UPDATES, cause users are reporting it bricks you phone but it also says something about downgrading so maybe it's in the case you downgraded. Another thing is yesterday I got an OTA 4.1.2 notification in my phone but couldn't update because I had deleted a lot of apps that came with the phone and it checks for them, so I restored to stock firmware with all the apps back and now I am not getting the OTA notification.

Unable to update AT&T Galaxy S5 to Lollipop on stock Touchwiz

I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 that has the default version of Touchwiz on it, with Android 4.4.2. I never rooted or flashed any roms on this device, yet I am unable to get OTA updates.
My friend, who has the same phone with AT&T, updated to Lollipop a while ago, and recently got another update, both of which I didn't get. Whenever I check for updates on my phone, under the About Device section in system settings, it says "Software Update Interrupted. No update is available for your device at this time. Please try again in 24 hours."
What can I do to update my device to Lollipop?
Thanks,
Sid
Do not update your phone with the OTA muniz_ri has all the files you need to flash your phone and keep root if you upgrade with the OTA you will be locked down and never able to root your phone. Just search ...

Yeah I realized that Lollipop locks the boot loader and can't be rooted, but I didn't know where to get the rom.
Thanks for the info!

Rooted Moto X with 4.2.2 - how do I update to newer android version?

Sorry for such a basic question. I rooted my Moto X quite a while ago. It is still on 4.2.2, the phone asks me to update every day and I just decline it. How can I update it to a newer version without losing root or causing any issues??
Thanks in advance!
You'll have to lose the root first. But may I suggest you explore the option of unlocking your bootloader 1st before updating as you won't be able to unlock it once you do the update to latest firmware.

Unroot + Update, then Root again...
Thank you both for the replies. Yes, I'd like to unlock bootloader. I don't remember exactly what I used to root since it was a while ago. I believe it was an app. Does it matter? What's the easiest way to unlock bootloader?
How do I unroot since I don't remember exactly how I rooted? Then once I unlock bootloader do I try to get the auto update from Sprint or download the update somewhere?
Thanks again!

You can unroot by the su app but you don't have to be unrooted to take ota's. Just have stock recovery and your stock ROM. If I were you, I wouldn't update the bootloader, so you can easily go back. Lots of complaints about 5.1. So go unlock the bootloader first with root, flash twrp, and then flash this ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3155843
Then if you don't like stock lollipop, you can go back. Lots of people like 4.4.4. This ROM doesn't update the boot loader

Unable to upgrade to 6.0-marshmallow

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my Moto X 2014 to Marshmallow. The OTA upgrade appeared last week, but fails without any error message.
When the devices was new, I unlocked the boot and rooted it. The first upgrade (5.0) installed without any problem, but I chose not to root it anymore.
Upgrade to 5.1 failed. It worked after I reflashed the recovery.img(following idea from Q18 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/wip-frequently-questions-moto-x-2014-t2876769). The same happened with the Stagefright update some time later. Now, the Marshmallow upgrade is available, but reflashing recovery.img is no longer working. It simply fails without any meaningful message. Could someone help me?
Tks,
Roberto

No there is no other way. An OTA fails if you are not 100% stock. So that means no root, no xposed, no custom kernels, no modifications to anything that is in system. If even one thing is modified it WILL fail. So the solution is to go back to 100% stock by flashing the full firmware.

That's strange. When I upgraded to 5.1 and 5.1/stagefright, I had exactly the same setup: Boot unlocked, no root. It upgraded fine after just reflashing 'recovery.img'. Actually, when I upgraded from 4.4 to 5.0, the phone was rooted, and yet it upgraded perfectly.

Again as I stated, something is modified. In the OTA it checks for modifications, if it finds something modified it fails and exits without upgrading it. So if you want to take the upgrade you need to flash back to stock.
This forum is filled with posts and topics of people having to unroot to get the OTAs to work. So why it worked for you, no idea, since you are the only person I have ever seen who has stated that it worked while rooted. According to every other post on this forum, OTA fails when rooted...

Ok. But still, why fully-reflashing? As I said, my phone is NOT rooted since 4.4. It's only boot unlocked, and both 5.0 and 5.1 where installed and no modifications made after that.

Look, somewhere in your phone there IS something that is NOT stock. What it is, we don't know. The ONLY way for you to take an OTA is to be 100% stock, if not it will fail. So the only solution is to get your phone to 100% stock to take the OTA, which means flash the full firmware. If you don't want to flash the full firmware then you will stay on 5.1.

Ok. After backing-up everything I needed, I flashed the stock 5.1 image. Reinstalled all apps (actually, everything reinstalled automatically), restored backups, and then tried the upgrade. Both stagefright and marshmallow upgrades worked fine, and 6.0 is running fine.
Tks.

CyanogenMod for Verizon Moto X 2014?

I am wondering the same thing, my Verizon xt1096 has an unlocked bootloader, I have tried a couple marshmallow roms with no signal .
Will calls and data work on Cyanogen on Verizon?
If not what about modding a stock marshmallow to work with Verizon?
Thanks

CM13 works fine with Verizon on the xt1096. Your bootloader must be unlocked so that you can flash TWRP as your recovery. You will need to wipe Data and System in TWRP before flashing CM13, it can't be a dirty flash over the stock rom.

I used Sunshine back when I was on 5.0.
Edited out since after reading a bit more, my post didn't make sense anymore.
Happy New Year all.
Ok well, Imy still unclear on CM installation: if the device has BL unlocked and running a stock MM, then I install twrp with fastboot (then rebbot to recovery), do I still need to root the stock firmware first (flash a modified kernel and SuperSU)?

No, you don't need to root the stock rom in order to install CM. CM will replace the stock rom.
Once you have TWRP installed, the first thing you want to do is make a TWRP backup, preferably to a USB-OTG drive. Then, you can always restore that backup if something goes wrong. Once you have that backup, you can try rooting the stock rom (only if you want to try it) and if you don't like it, restore the backup. Don't let TWRP do the rooting for you, use TWRP to install the SuperSU using the latest SuperSU for Marshmallow zip file.
To try CM you will have to wipe your phone system and data (not internal storage where your pictures, etc. are stored.) You can then install CM13 and if you don't like it, restore the backup to return to the stock.
