Going back to LP 10N from MM 20i - T-Mobile LG G4

I have seen this question asked but have not see a definate answer. Is it safe to go back to LP 10N after upgrading to MM 20i?
Have anyone successfully done this and how did you do it? I have seen conflicting info on here, some say yes and some say you will brick.
Why go back? First I have had issues with bluetooth and wifi, also my Wifi Tether Router app will not work since upgrading. I seem to have had better battery life also on LP.
Thanks

You can, I read someone flashed the wrong KDZ file (10N) instead of MM (20i) by accident after going to MM. His phone was alright its been confirmed but never hurts to double check.

Well, there's this: [PSA] **WARNING** DO NOT TRY TO DOWNGRADE YOUR G4 BOOTSTACK (in USA at least) - http://is.gd/UbYGLN
And this, from Hyleton who is an expert on restoring stock to LG phones: Currently with T-Mobile/H811 You can no longer downgrade past the current kdz as of 9-19-15
I'd be *very* careful about relying on something reported anecdotally, but I'd like to know because I've hard bricked LG phones in the past due to bootloader conflicts and I'm not anxious to repeat the experience. Right now the G4 I'm expecting soon is on 5.1 and I"m inclined to keep it there if I can't downgrade.

I am on H81120i, rooted and have a couple of questions about reverting back to LP.
1. Were you rooted on MM?
2. Would you be willing to provide the method you used?
Thank you

If you are in 20i you can safely downgrade to 10n, problem was downgrading from 10n to a lower LP kdz.

The only way to root and install twrp is from the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/development/stock-h811-20i-images-kdz-flashable-t3308227
Or this post here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65156874&postcount=119
P.S. @kennethrkennedy
If you did OTA or flashed the 20i kdz on top of 10n i recommend doing a factory reset, i know is painful cuz needbto reinstall everything again but that may fix a lot of issues including battery life.

DrakenFX, thank you for responding! I just want to make sure we are on the same page. I am currently on MM and have rooted with the 2nd method you listed. I am having a lot of problems such as 5mhz wifi disconnects, very bad lag in all apps & Chrome scrolling so I want to downgrade to LP. (FYI I did factory reset several times after the update).
Since I have an unlocked bootloader I am not sure of the process to revert without bricking my phone. I have searched google and the forums and only a couple of people mention successfully downgrading but don't list the method.

Seems like experience may very but in my case I'll never going back to LP , MM is been awesome so far no lags battery been great and performance been increase.
Method they have use is using LG UP Tool + 10n KDZ, you will find those tools in @autoprime 20i update thread.

I could not get that method to work - kept getting an error. I was successful using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/development/rom-g4-h811-10n-stock-restore-t3191756
I booted into twrp - wiped everything then flashed both zips and factory reset. I'm in love with my phone again :victory:

This is a bit late to comment, but I updated my thread's first post to say specifically that downgrading to 10N from MM is okay. Autoprime updated his thread to state it was okay specifically also.
The anti-rollback flag is v2 on both 10N and MM, so LG won't destroy your phone by going back to 10N.

Currently mine has 6.0 and the performance is a bit better.
Battery is OK but your mileage may vary.
Simple TV or Tablo users: 6.0 fixed wierd video rendering problem.

can i downgrade if im on stock MM from lg bridge not rooted?

There is risk involved. Notice that the author of that guide is telling you to remove the lines for flashing the partition table (gpt.bin) and the bootloader (motoboot.img)?
That means although you can get back to 4.4.3, you will most definitely have a mismatched partition table and/or bootloader. The biggest risk is when you take a future OTA. You risk bricking at that point - we have seen it happen multiple times here on XDA. While you might get away with it and be just fine, anyone who claims it to be perfectly safe is mistaken. There IS risk involved.
I'm really not understanding why one would even wish to downgrade back to a previous version anyways? Oh well - to each their own.
If you decide to follow that guide, you are doing it at your own risk.
Good Luck :good:

samwathegreat Thank you very much for your advice. I prefer to believe you. The only reason for wanting to downgrade was because I'm from South America (Chile) and I made the mistake of following the footsteps of dashiell.cano to have verizon 4.4.4. It works, but wanted the rom Brazilian Retail 4.4.3 to access your OTA 4.4.4 already arrived. But you know a lot and it's smart to follow his advice. Greetings and thanks for your time.

No worries. As soon as the FULL 4.4.4 Brazilian SBF is released (not the OTA), you can safely flash the entire sbf without risk of bricking. It may take a couple more weeks or a month (can't say exactly when), but it will be leaked eventually and you can safely go back to your proper rom at that time.
:good:
@Ayel7bytes , keep in mind that besides the many posts of bricking from those who downgraded by skipping GPT.BIN and MOTOBOOT.IMG, we've also seen the phones not behave properly.
One of the best examples that come to mind is App Drawer -> Settings -> Security would kick you back out to the settings menu when downgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.4 (aka 4.4.0).
You are right in asking about it. And as @samwathegreat said, just sit tight until the 4.4.4 SBF for your carrier/model leaks, and then flash all parts of it.

I can conclude with this situation every moto x is a story itself. I faithfully well-intentioned warnings but after you do this Brazilian tutorial with something of fear and see that I had no problem (my phone is perfect and better than before), I suspect that perhaps the Latin American models allow modify XT1058 but other versions like American XT1060 with all your locks maybe not. In my case I got my bike from verizon x 4.4.4 root and recovery modified brazil retail removing lines xml and then un updating OTA 4.4.4. It worked immediately.
But of course I do not recommend everyone do this. I just want to say that nothing is absolute and every moto x has its risks depending on the model and what their owners have done.

A little guidance please

I have had my G2 for about a year. I had rooted it and never took an update after 11A. I was happy with the way my phone worked and read some of the stories where people were not happy with KitKat.
Unfortunately, the touch went out on my screen and I had to get a replacement. I successfully flashed my old one back to stock and removed root w/out a problem.
Now my problem is this:
The new phone came with 25B. I understand there is no way to root this version. The phone is already wanting me to update to 26A. What I would like to do is rollback someway, root, then take updates. I can already see my phone signal is not as strong as it used to be.
My questions are:
1. Can I rollback to an earlier version and root via one of the IORoot options? (TOT it like I did my old phone)
2. What version would I need to rollback to to accomplish this.
3. Could someone point to the correct thread to do this?
4. Finally, I see it seems to be ok to take factory updates if you are rooted only. I am not interested in custom roms. I use Titanium Backup to freeze bloatware and would like like to be able to use it again. I have quite a bit I need to restore.
I have done some searching but it seems the G2 section has changed a lot since I was last here. I do appreciate any help and/or pitfalls you can warn me about. I do have the LG Flash Tool 1.8 installed and am familiar with how to install the needed TOT file.
Thanks....

You can kdz or tot back and root from there. Root sticks through 25b but not 26a update.
Thank you. I will go ahead and update to the 25b then.

Just got this phone

Hi everyone, after years of owning an Optimus G, I finally decided to get me a G4 as I saw at a good price.
So after skimming through a bit I noticed there's some stuff going about 6.0 update issues and how some recent batches are fine now. I'm a bit confused so wanted to know what's good to do with the new device (rooting, unlocking, updating, etc) as I haven't decided to update to 6.0 because of what the forums say.
What's a good set of steps to get the phone working at its fullest? All advice is appreciated.

Just bought one too. It's a great device. Mine came with 6.0 installed.
Updating is good, IMHO. I had 20i out of the box though..
You can unlock bootloader and root and even install ROMs!
I unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP within the first hour of owning the device. Modified the stock 6.0 system to my liking and it runs fantastically. Very stable.
I also use CM13. I love Cyanogenmod. So I had to install it. CM13 is quite good and very snappy on this device. You lose some function of the camera and several features of the stock OS but you reap the benefits of amazing firmware and great options.. Honestly, it's a toss up between the 2 firmwares (stock & CM) for me. The camera takes great photos in CM13 but no manual mode or 4k video or laser focus apparently. But you will need to start with stock 6.0..
It really depends what you want out of your phone..
There's also many options for ROMs to install.
- LG-H811 via XDA app on CM13.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I did upgrade as a leap of faith and no real problems so far. And yeah, I decided to root now anyways as all the bloat is getting annoying.
As for roms, I did consider CM so I'll give it a try! Thanks a lot for your suggestion

be aware that g4 has bootloop issues , and if unlocked bootloader then warranty doesnt cover it any more..
you can only downgrade to lollipop 10N or update to MM..
mine is locked and am on LP rooted//with xposed.

I just got mine which is already on 6.0 and is 20i
I do worry about the bootloop issues that I saw many people got into that and turn the phone into trash, so is there any way I can use other rom or at least to take off those bloatware like T-mobile and amazon etc?
I have no idea how to do this kinda of things and read some post that all pretty confusing to me since they all put in some tech words like " SDK or ADB" in these steps
"4. Using the android issue SDK. Open a command window and link it to your SDK folder where ADB is located (typically Platform-Tools)
5. Once the Command window is linked to the folder, connect your device via USB and allow the connection. "
So if anyone can help me with as simple step by step ways to do it for new beginner that would be great.

am also worried.. thats why i have bootloader locked.. am itching to unlock it... but in case of bootloop we need the moddified TOT file but it doesnt support USA phones.. they said to change name with hex editor program... one guy tried it and it bricked phone... if we had a working file for our h811 i would unlock it.. flash file ..try the relocking bootloader command and flash stock firmware and send to LG ... but no one has made moddified TOT or have make a video of relocking bootloader... i only see a thread that confirms it can be done...
do not update new 20o its antirollback V3.. youll be stuck in it for ever..
on 20i MM you cant unless you unlock bootloader....
but on LP 10n yes you can root it... and remove all crap..
20i MM and LP 10n its antirollback V2 you can switch to them .. lower then that will brick phone..
i could help.. if you want to use LP 10n.. to root.. as unlocking bootloader i have no idea...
LOL same here am not good a commands and adb shell stuff... but reading carefully and if doubt ask, then i can be done..
I just got this phone as well, I have heard that the last run units have the bootloop issue fixed but not sure if that is just LG propaganda. I got one manufactured April 2016 and it was the last one any of the stores local to me had in stock brand new in box. I mean I've only had it for a day and it already has 20o on it so hopefully I'm good. I have jump so it really only needs to last a year anyway.

Yeah, ended up finding a method. I played too much with it though and now I'm having issues connecting to my LTE network. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
I doubt I'll do more than root and then use root explorer to force disable any apps I can't do normally. I get 7GB of free tethering per line with T-Mo as well so I don't even need a rom for the tether hack although if I start flying again and use my LTE as my internet source I might then... I routinely used over 100GB a month when I had verizon unlimited a few years ago and was flying.

Rooting ZVC

I have been out of the loop on this phone for a while. I had to get a replacement G4 and it came with ZVB and I recently took the new ZVC OTA. It looks to me that there is no current root method for phones running ZVB and above. Can someone please confirm this for me? Just wanting to make sure I am not missing something.

Root has been gone for a while with a locked bootloader it's very highly unlikely new software updates will never receive root. At least on older phone models.:crying:

Zv6 is only firmware rootable.
as of rite now you cannot rollback before zvb any ways. You can brick device. Basicly for now ypur screwed til someone makes a modded sysyem image with tweaks only no root. U aint missed much on g4
I have also just now come back to the G4, and it seems like there is no root method at all, even in mods like my favorite UltraPOP AOSP, the difficult ones where you're pulling the plug on the battery at certain times.
What those mods HAVE done, specifically UltraPOP, is that they are able to unlock or make accessible most things people want root for, but manually, and requiring a software update for each thing. Those may do what you're looking for.

Should I downgrade my android version?

Hey, I am currently running 6.0.1 as my android version. Just asking but would it be suggested to downgrade the android version? If yes, than too which version?
Why do you want to downgrade?
The Nexus 6 came out with the 5.0, you can't go further back, even with custom roms. Actually I've head somebody trying to build KitKat for the shamu, but I don't know if he succeeded.
Also why would you like to downgrade, anyway?
Oh as far as why: I had enough with 6.0.1 freezing/slow/crashing on me. Sometimes it even freezes to the point where I cannot turn off the screen for a few minutes at times. I also have enough with the apps freezing or does not work and Chrome sometimes freezes as well.
Why not upgrading to android 7 instead of downgrading?

Why don't you try upgrading instead? Android 7.0 factory image has just been released.
Oh, has it been released? Does it causes those boot loop issues on Motorola branded phones just like it does with LG branded? And could I upgrade using the Wugs tool?

If you want to flash the factory image then go here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#shamu
You will find the factory image for 7.0 there and also the instructions on how to flash it. If you are already on stock 6.0.1, you should bee recieving an OTA update soon. But since you say you have reboots and freezes I would take a backup of what every you need onto your computer and then start of fresh from the link above. That way you won't be haunted by old bugs that might be stuck because of previous versions.

These freezing/slow/crashing issues look very unique to you. Why didn't you try a factory reset, then add your apps back one by one, and look for those that give you trouble. Also are you rooted, do you use xposed or anything that modifies the basic system? Because I'm runnin 6.0.1 myself, and never had the issues you do.
The instructions on the developer page to flash looks too confusing. Well, it jumps right into it when myself I never done it before.
Everybody on this site once knew nothing about Android. Your safest bet is to just wait for the OTA to be offered (or proactively check for it) and accept it.
