Update 1: I also formated /system
Hi, and if you're reading past the title, thanks anyway.
A friend of mine came with the request to flash a CM that runs a JB 4.2.2, as he was tired of his Note running ICS 4.0.4 ever since he saw my Nexus 4's CM10.1. I did warn him that it is potentially dangerous, but as I do consider myself a non-technical power user in terms of computers, and flashing my Nexus 4 seemed like a breeze, I agreed that I will do my best. This post is a bit longer than one would like, but I want to cover all points, since I feel personally responsible for bricking his phone (neither of us is particularly rich, so it's a big deal).
The first thing I did is root the phone with the ExynosAbuse trick, but upon reading CM's instructions on flashing their ROM, it advised that rooting the Note is neither necessary nor recommended. Upon seeing that, I simply unrooted the phone and deleted the app.
Next, I installed the Heimdall Suite 1.3.1 for Windows upon reading that 1.3.2. is potentially unsafe, used heimdall flash --kernel zImage --no-reboot to flash hardcore's CWM speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-15-Odin, and not the one that is linked in CM's guide, since the link was dead, regardless I thought I've got the correct kernel and went for it. From this point onward, the boot Note logo had this yellow triangle on:
I then downloaded the latest CM Nightly - cm-10.1-20130409-NIGHTLY-n7000 and put it on the SD card manually vie the PC explorer and then booted into recovery and unzipped it, the installation went fine, the Note was officially running the latest CM10.1 (as required by the guide, I wiped data/factory reset in CWM)
And this is when things started getting ugly.
Everything ran perfect, but for some reason the new ROM couldn't see the internal SD card that held everything (I wanted to put gapps, having forgotten to intially unzip them with the ROM flashing). Nothing made it work, the phone was no longer accessible via the PC, in MTP mode it didn't show on my desktop, and showed as empty on my laptop. Camera mode worked on both computers. USB Storage only worked every now and then with no clear pattern, but both partitions that I could see were greyed out on both my laptop and desktop and I couldn't access them. I Google'd and saw that a lot of people had reported that the latest CM nightly is causing this problem, and to revert to an older ROM. I next chose the stable cm-9.1.0-n7000.zip. I ended up with a 4.0.4 CMod, but I still couldn't see the internal SD card and then decided to try the even older cm-9.0.0-n7000.zip - same thing.
This was already more than 3 hours into the process and I was going crazy so I supposed my next move was kind of retarded in hindsight - I loosely remember reading something about having to format the partitions, and mount/unmount in CWM didn't bring back any results, and CWM kept giving back errors including /emmc/ so I went into CWM and formatted the eMMC thinking that will solve the problem.
The phone is now displaying a battery, but it's stuck on loading even though it's been charging for a few hours now and must be at 100%. Both Download Mode and Recovery Mode are available, and I can flash things via DL Mode. CWM Works too, but for some reason it got reverted back to 5.8.x instead of the recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-n7000. This is the error I get when trying to flash a ROM now: (Status 7).
I decided to not go any further and instead ask for help and see if anyone was feeling like extending a hand. I know it was retarded to wipe the eMMC before consulting guides, but the amount of information is quite frankly intimidating and it made it near impossible for me to know exactly what I was supposed to do. The phone is still under warranty by his Carrier, but we do not have any Samsung services around where we live. I could tell him to go ahead and service it in, but won't the counter give away that the phone has been messed with and void his warranty?
Any help is appreciated!
P.S. being a new user, I am not allowed to post external links, as such the pictures I snapped can't be linked :/

Or else, simply download a GB ROM, flash it using PC Odin and do wipe in stock android recovery. It will give you bootloop unless you wipe.

Update 1: Mounting as USB in Recovery gives the familiar USB Connected Windows sound, but I do not see the device in my explorer for some reason?
Update 2: PC Odin does not appear to recognize the device -- the ID:COM row remains unchanged and does not turn yellow? Moreover, Win 7 claims the devices has malfunctioned and does not recognize it whilst it's stuck on the battery load image. If I go to Download/Recovery mode, Windows starts recognizing it, but seldom shows SAMSUNG_Android and sometimes Gadget Serial?!
I will attempt your (2nd) steps now. I decided to download AllianceROM_JB_N7000XXLSZ-v3 MD5 e65d777f7a519ed71304b7dc73d9eed5.zip and the Kernel_CM10.1_Official_20130328_n7000_N8Mali.zip kernel. Should I instead pair this Kernel with the CM10.1 ROM or it doesn't matter I suppose?

Update 1: I am working on your steps, thank you zai! I'll report back.
I have CWM, but it's an older 5.8.x version. Is that alright? I also obtained an ext. SD card just to get this working, but I read somewhere that it's not okay to put files on it via another devices (my only card reader has slot for only the older, bigger SD Cards, and not Micro-SD). Can I use my e-Reader to put the files on the ext. SD?

Update 1: I have landed on the newer 6.0.3.0 CWM Recovery as you said. A full wipe means data/factory reset, but what about wipe cache partition? And what about the Advanced - Wipe Dalvik? Do I need to wipe that, too? Thank you!
A Kindle is an e-Reader. Though I am using my mom's Prestigio since it's the only thing in the house that has a micro-SD slot .
I flash the CM kernel via CWM Recovery, right? Install zip -> external SD -> install cmkernel.zip?
If Im not mistake In cwm 5.
external sd card = internal sd card
sd card = external SD..

Um... the guide on AllianceROM requires me to install an app, something that is impossible, since my Note won't boot into Android and is just stuck on the initial logo...?

Since the AllianceROM doesn't seem to be an option, I have instead opted for your very own ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208862. Will that work okay, zai?
Cheers for your continued help, it is appreciated.
that a stock Rom its work okay, you can use my flashing instruction there to flash any TW custom rom...you chose.

Here we go again. Choose zip from sdcard returns back E: Can't mount /sdcard/... So I can't really flash your stock ROM via the ext. card, can I?

Try flashing alliance if you can. Ignore the guide. App is necessary if you want to customize the installation.
Also, I wouldn't suggest using such heavy ROMs in order to get out of a problem. Use something like SlimBean (in the original development section). It is just 87mb and is perfectly safe.
P.S.:Have you tried flashing a GB ROM via PC Odin ?

PC Odin refuses to connect with the Note for some reason, the ID:COM bar remains grey and unchanged.
I have just tried to format the SD card and re-upload Zai's Stock JB and go for an unzip again, but I get the same error returned E: Can't mount /sdcard/. Manually mounting it via the mount menu in CWM also doesn't work.
I will DL SlimBean, but what use if I can't flash it? Thanks for your help

He means that you can flash whatever custom rom in xda galaxy ace (5830) forums!!, so if you want it, download the rom (e.g. SII rom by Spacecaker), do the 3 wipes (data, cache and dalvik-cache) and then flash the custom rom you'll get a new firmware with SIII/IV caracteristics
I had a stock Optus firmware for my s5830 running 2.3.6 Gingerbread. I installed a zip off the internet to remove the stock Optus apps so I could root the phone, which i ended up doing.
I then installed Clockwork Mod 5, which installed successfully. After, i proceeded to install a custom ROM called "The Ultimatum", the installation went fine, i selected the kernel which didn't require an extra partition so it would not go into a bootloop. No errors were shown during installation.
I then rebooted my phone and now it is stuck into a bootloop. I thought "Oh yeah, i can just flash the custom 2.3.6 firmware back onto my device, which i have done many times". But to my surprise, my PC does not recognize my phone in download mode. I have tried using two cables as well as deleting drivers and reinstalling them.
If it helps, i once had ROM Manager installed as it said so on an online tutorial for my exact device. I did not use any features in it, but it is installed. Also when i mount the sd card to the computer, it is fully empty.
Anyone please help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated,

Thankyou for this, it must have been something with the USB port on my main laptop as I used my school laptop and it all worked fine. Without the sd card it went into another boot loop, Odin seemed to like the sd card :/ It has booted up fine.
Only problem now is when I apply the root zip SuperSU is not showing, I'll fully set up the device and then I'll see if it is a problem.

ok brother have fun then :laugh:
So I rooted my daughters samsung SGH-T599N, and installed philz touch and was planning on putting a custom rom on the phone. unfortunately out of habit, I put the rom file, and gapps file on the external SD, booted to recovery.. wiped cache, dalvik and factory reset to install a new rom. Unfortunately this device will not access the external SD card through the recovery, and now the phone just gets stuck with the samsung logo when turned on (so i cant turn debugging on again).... I can't get odin, or any other program to read and connect properly.... and now I'm stuck... I have been searching online for several days now trying to find a solution, but have come up empty. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.. I was even thinking to use adb to transfer files over but have been unsuccessful as of yet ...
sorry to burst your bubble but this exhibit 4g section is for T679 version.

do you have cwm installed? if so you could boot into that and in the advanced menu there's an option called mount usb storage. just make sure your phone is plugged into your computer boot into cwm and then advanced/mount usb storage, then open my computer and your external drive should so up also your internal I believe, so you could transfer your new rom and gapps to a new location of your choice.. though i'm not sure how you'd would do this on odin or other recovery software.
I actually had philz touch cwm installed, but I resolved the problem by flashing back to stock with odin in recovery mode... turns out this device just doesnt read external sd from recovery. adb push didnt work, sideload didnt work..lol . But good ole odin saved my butt again
