I've had this mobile like 2 months now. and im starting too realize how bad the sound on this device is. I have 3 set of Headphones like Bose Quietcomfort, Beats by dre, and the sound is so much better and higher if you try the same headphones on my old iphone 4. Why do samsung have so low sound? any suggestion? ive tried the most of volumeboosters out there like Voodoo or Volume plus etc, it gets a litle better but far away from the old iphone?
I have had no problems with the sound on my Note. Maybe yours is defective?

Low as in volume or quality? When I have compared my phone to my old galaxy s, an iphone, and an HTC sensation, my Note far surpassed them all in terms of volume and quality.

I have to agree, haven't noticed any problems with music or video sound quality/volume through stock and big AKG headphones. Maximum is always a little too much for normal listening.

After repairing my broken display, there is room for another speaker. I don't have problems listening to music through headphones over barking dogs(work). Im not disappointed but I did have high expectations for the speaker on the back.

Sorry to hear your having problems. Subjectively, I'm having no problems with the sound. In fact though this phone is similar to the S2, i have noticed much improvement with the note's sound quality in-call.

I experienced the same thing as you, as I had an iPhone 4 previously and the sound quality from the iPhone was much more full and overall louder.
The fix for my Note was to get Voodoo Louder from the market (paid app), and it does wonders for obtaining higher volume levels, as well as giving the Note a more full bodied sound (though only through your headphone jack).
Give it a try and see!
for me galaxy note produce high quality sounds and sound volume can be realy high. I had sgs2 and listening within music was pain in the ass
Try removing dirt from your ears LOLJK...just buy voodoo louder or poweramp.
I fixed the low sound volume in the stock music player by going to> menu> more> settings> equalizer> custom> and r
move the levers all the way up, all of them, than go to sound effects and choose> Bass Enhancement, and be careful not to damage your ears, the internal streakers will be louder too.
Instead of bass enhancement, try this http://knowmydroid.com/blog/enable-megabass-android-phone
I recently purchased a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). And I noticed that when I use the AUX port in my car to play Google Music through - I have to turn up my volume much higher than I did with my iPhone 3G. I have the "Media Volume" all the way up on my Note. Problem is that if I switch to the radio - which is rare but might happen - it will be far louder than using my phone. Any way to level this out?
Oh please just read my post one post above yours, my car's speakers will blow off while using the GNote.
I get better sound quality on my note with stock headphones than used to on my iPhone 3g(stock headphones), maybe was something faulty with the iPhone... Also i don't need to raise the volume over the middle level sound bar. That's loud enough!

That also happens with my pioneer car unit. With the iPhone i used level 20 plugged with the phone port rather than the headphone out(wich bypassed the iOS volume), with the note i have to use something like vol 40! What i do is set the Multimedia volume to the MAX that seems to "fix" the problem! ...
There's little benefit from software here. Like sgs2 note has inferior DAC( yamaha) compared to SGS or iphone. It's hardware limitation here.

I have beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm. It is not bad with note compared to my x fi titanium HD + external headphone amp e9.
It is a little bit loud at maximum volume. So I guess normal headphone should work fine without volume issue.

LOL, thats the most geeekest thing i think ive heard too day I like it
but anyways if u try them in an iphone you will hear clearly a difference! And I do not even consider myself any good at hearing stuff like that,,,
All,
I'm reasonably happy with the speaker (loud speaker) quality in a number of different circumstances however I am just wondering whether there could be any software/firmware modifications made to make the speaker louder?
I know previously a lot of Galaxy S3 i9300/i9305 ROMs had the loudspeaker boost option for in call.

I have previously used an application called volume+ just search under play store which worked well at increasing the volume on three of my phones, and it is free .
Seems like the Ac!d ROM helps boost volume. Big limitation here is the waterproofing membrane.

Doesnt seem like Volume+ works on JB 4.1?

Anyone else less then impressed by the max headphone volume on the Nexus 6? I mean, it's better than the Nexus 5 was by far, but I was really hoping that the volume on this would be comparable to the iPhone and it isn't. Otherwise I love this phone, it's awesome in every other way.
Anyone have any mods/apps that could help correct this issue? That's what I had to do with my Nexus 5 to get it to a point I liked.
System/ect/mixer_paths.xml. That was the file we changed on the g3. It's there just don't know what values need to change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2952137
I've used that with my nexus 5 and it worked good. I've been very impressed with the n6 compared to my n5, galaxy s4 and galaxy nexus. I've never had iproduct before which is probably why I'm so pleased with the audio out on the n6.

Are you talking about the headphone jack or just in general? I have the LG Tones and couldn't be more pleased.

Mine:
I use Viper4AndroidFX and it has a large number of sound mods in there that can get your sound higher quality.
very unimpressive coming from the HTC One m8. Boomsound through the headphones was very good.
I always use bluetooth headsets, and sometimes I wish the volume would go up one or two bumps higher... I also had the same issue with my Nexus 4 and 5, so I'm kinda used to it now. I suppose it's better for my ears this way anyway.

Yes you need root to modify the mixer XML file.
I wear hearing aids and get along OK.....without them I am lost at night to hear the alarm on my Note 4.
Does anyone have a Note 5 who can comment on the loudspeaker quality / loudness relative to a Note 4?
Thanks in advance....
I dont own a note 4, but compare to note 3, note5 is softer and sound more vocalize, try using sharp tone sound
I just received my Note 5 and did a sound comparison with my Note 4. I'm not sure I have the most discerning ear but the Note 5 notification sounded slightly louder to me than the Note 4 notification. (I made sure the sound sliders were set the same on both phones.)
It might be worth visiting a Best Buy to compare the two.
Thanks for the input
Note 5 is louder, clearer, and the speaker positioning is better. It also has a better range as well, you'll hear more highs and lows.
Just got my Note 5. Pretty good speaker and by far better than Note 4's. I hated that speaker!!
Note 4 had a loud speaker but quality of sound was raw. Note 5 has better sound quality... More finished and as loud. Plus the speaker placement helps.

yea the note 4 speaker was terrible especially once you added a case to it. although it would have been amazing to have stereo side mounted speakers now that there is some extra edge real estate from the IR blaster removal i am not disappointed by the current speaker. it is an iterative improvement. its better than i was expecting but i wasnt expecting anything other than what we got on the note 4.
note 4 speaker can be boosted to double volume through googy max kernel and googy tweaks tool or through synapse with supported kernels like halasszk kernel or through change values in mixer path ( with root explorer )
but unfortunately note 5 has no kernel support boosting volume niether code source to be changed
Listening to Spotify on my Note 5, the sound is surprisingly good, I can hear the bass and treble much better than I expected.

Immediately ran and grabbed my co-worker's 6S to test this, Lies.
Let's see if new Note 7 comes with a louder speaker.
To the OP. How deaf are you? I have to keep the phone close to me to be able to hear it. I have to use a high pitch sound. Gf Hates it... But while growing up I used the vibrations, so I tend to react from phones vibrations than the actual sound. If your the same maybe you should try that too.

You can you sound mod (Beats Audio, Viper4Android, Dolby Atmos)
I'm not sure what people are on here, but hands down the Note 4's speaker without a doubt is louder. And that's just the crappy Qualcomm one. The Exynos version is a little louder and sounds a little better.
The note 4 speaker for me was great. Especially for my favorite band. And loud as hell.
The note5 has a little more bass and sounds a little less stretched.....but for some things also lacks a lot more range, sounds a little more muffled for things beyond average range, and lost a few notches in volume....
Yet was supposedly a more powerful speaker.
It's really sad how long it took Samsung to build in speaker and how they keep going backwards.
They went from the 2009 omnia hd with what could have possibly been the best sounding stereo speakers to the quiet one in the Galaxy S1. The Note 2 one a few years later was ok. Then it was another 2 years to get to the note 4 one which especially the Exynos one rocked!
Then the note5 improved bass but lost range, got muffled, and lost volume.
Then the S7 came....i understand it's a water proof speaker but it got even worse. It's decent but could have been so much more.
And they still are stuck on single speakers
Is there or will there ever be a version of viper4android that does not require your phone to be rooted? Viper is the best hifi sound tweaker & I don't know why you "have" a rooted phone just so that viper4android will work. Is anybody working on a version that will run on a stock phone? I understand you need root to install the drivers but I would assume there would be a way around this at some point. I would say every equalizer I have tried it's garbage. If you increase the bass or the treble on any of these cheap equalizers you do get an increase in the low-end OR high-end but you sacrificed the volume of your original recording. Does anyone have any info on getting viper4android to work without root or if there are any plans for one? Please excuse my ignorance as I am not a programmer guess a music lover.
Have you tried True-Fi ?
Only app I can find is here...

Is this it? Note 9 SM-N960W Snapdragon Comes with AKG headphones & I do not use them. They won't stay in my ears due to the shape of my ears I guess. This app asks for specific headphones and app does note have the AKG model that came with the phone. Can you share a link if mine is incorrect, I don't see a way with this one to tune my audio apps, eq etc. Thanks!

Yes, thats the app I was referring to. It has support for hundreds of headphones sets but I guess not the AKG ones.
They do ask for requests to send in headphone models that they will include so perhaps try doing that.
I just noticed on the True-Fi site it says the following headphones are supported by the software:
Samsung
Earphones Tuned by AKG
Galaxy S6, S7
