Yo, i was wondering.. what can we expect from the LG version of Android 2.3 GB ?
Any info about this? Design changes maybe?
I personaly really hope that they tweak the performance cause i like LG Launcher but its really slow n buggy .. and the bug fixes are a "off-course" i guess? :/
Nobody knows.
Any theroies?

another buggy software implementation with random reboots/ freezes and bugs, only this time it will say 2,3 in about phone
I think we can expect it to run smoother (but not sure if this will also be the case for the home screen).
Ofcourse the typical gingerbread features.
I don't expect changes in the design.
Maybe some bugfixes.
But gingerbread can ofcourse also introduce new bugs.
There is an upcoming froyo firmware there they fix/improve the crashes/reboods/unreponsiveness and improve media support (mkv file support).
I expect those improvements in the gingerpread version too..
Hi,
I honestly think we aren't getting any updates, and if we are it won't be this summer. Best case scenario next fall-winter if LG can solve the reboot-freeze problems (I'm not holding my breath).
But that's ok, android has amazing people who make the OS so much better than anything companies like LG or Samsung can do. Corporations need to make money, LG will put out at least 10 phones with better hardware before thinking back at old products. By that time a new version on android will be out and they'll just make new phones for that version.
Custom ROM developers on the other hand stick with a product much longer and try to make it the best it can be. Just look at what these forums have created!!!
I got my O2X 3 days ago and already I've changed it so much, I don't have any slowdowns, reboots, weak batery life, etc... All thanks to the developers here.
The best bet for a GOOD 2.3 android experience will come out of Cyanogen Mod or other custom ROMS not LG. That's really where the openness of Android shines.
Cheers

To be fair, I agree that we won't see 2.3 any time soon. I think even LG themselves don't even know yet... I have no faith in the 2X ever getting GB. That way, I won't be disappointed if we don't see it...
All companies are bothered about in the mobile sector is getting out new products... NOT updating existing handsets which won't make money. If LG keep putting delays on updates, this will mean people will still buy the handset.
This is one thing that Apple do right imho.
lol, the funny thing is that on the o2x product site at lg says "upgradable to 2.3" WTF!?
I also doubt we'll be seeing gingerbread anytime soon. And pretty much zero change on getting anything after that. They're churning out so many phones that there's no way to support them all.
They really messed up with the O2X which is such a shame because can be great (as evidenced by the custom ROMs from modaco). Personally I am happy with mine because I am running a custom ROM etc. But if I just bought the phone and used it as is then I would definitely not be very happy with it

Totally agree
my box said in Dutch it would ALWAYS be upgradeable to the latest android version.
I guess 2.3 will bring 2.3 less reboots. And hopefully 2.3x the performance.
It would be unacceptable if the 2.3 does not bring any change regarding the major glitches. I have decided to buy the best possible smartphone on the market and now even a homescreen change able to getting sexual action with my brain. I will change it to an iphone(ofc only in my nightmares)! let us hope that lg will provide the feeling “life‘s good“ with Gb..
either LG will upgrade their os soon as they promised or they defenetly going to lose some customers and the competition does not sleep and is still stronger than lg at the moment. that is why i think we will see an update soon. lg simply can not afford not to update to gingerbread including some bugfixes. so i'm pretty sure we will see gb sometime after they launched the optimus 3d...
i just cannot understand how it is possible that some ppl sitting at home with barely any experience from coding can archieve better results than a billion dollar company..
i know they have more to do than nerds at home and more phones to maintain, but anyways..its kinda sick!
edit: i just found this..i think its a changelog for lg gingerbread, not stock.
Support for voice or video chat using Google Talk
System: Updated user interface design for simplicity and speed
Internet calling: Native support for SIP VoIP telephony
System: Improved power management with a more active role in managing apps that are keeping the device awake for too long.
Concurrent garbage collection for increased performance
Switched from YAFFS to the ext4 filesystem

probably not, because lg bloatware is still present and eats up ram.. but i think it should use the resources in a better way and more optimized, atleast..

iOS 7 was released on September 18, 2013.
7.0.1 came out September 19.
7.0.2 came out September 26.
7.0.3 came out October 22.
7.0.4 came out November 14.
That's 4 updates in 2 months. Three in the (approximately) first month.
KitKat came out October 31. No updates so far, over a month in.
I understand that you might respond, "well iOS needs so many updates because it has so many bugs." And that might be true. But unquestionably, KitKat has some things that could be adjusted (at a minimum, it'd be nice if they tweaked the volume a little bit on the N5). And surely there are various bugs that could be fixed.
Is this pretty typical? I can't help but wonder why Google takes so long to push out updates, even if they are minor. I'd rather get a couple of minor updates over the course of a month or two than to have to wait 3 or 4 months for a single, bigger update.
A couple of those updates were for security issues that HAD to be updated quickly, considering the bad press they were getting.

i dont get these android vs ios threads. if your unhappy, go back to ios then. you dont need to keep looking for reasons.
Google does it this way because it works for them, i honestly dont see a problem with it. whatever bugs that are on stock are usually fixed on a custom rom. Try doing that with an iphone

Not trying to hate on custom roms, but most of them have their own bugs and are not for the everyday user. Some might say the N5 is developer phone but it works on Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile and I know Sprint is selling it on contract to average users.
The main issue with the N5 is obviously the camera. I can't even use some apps anymore and the camera breaks to a green screen while using those apps. I know the fix is coming, but it's kinda annoying to have to reboot my phone every 30 minutes to be able to send snapchats or use the camera again. Also hearing so many stories about people returning an otherwise great phone because they cant get the camera to work. So I guess I semi-agree with the OP that Google needs to fix some things now, but can also understand why they haven't yet.

I think all he was trying to say was that he wished Google was a tiny tiny little bit like Apple sometimes. If this was the IPhone 5 they would be getting murdered by the media. Not necessarily unhappy with the phone or Google's services, just patiently waiting for a fix on a few crucial things.
Updates will come when they're ready. I know I don't want an update for the sake of getting a update. Too many times I've seen stuff rushed to fix something and break many other things.

Bro, that's an example of something you don't say here at XDA. "Most of them have their own bugs" well duh! It's been about a month and ROMs take a few months to iron out all the issues. But when that stable or RC CM/AOKP/Beanstalk/Slim build comes out, there's no complaining. Simply good features and good speed. :victory:
Why shouldn't Google market it as a good smartphone for the average user? Just because it's a Nexus doesn't mean its destiny belongs at XDA...it's got good speed, stability, features and screen. What else could you wish for at the price of $349/399 or $450 on carrier?
It's not like iOS 7 was good upon release. You wanna see the lag on my iPad Mini that wasn't fixed until 7.0.3? Bro, there's no reason that they should be releasing anything that lags that hard on a major device that still constituted a major part of their lineup at ios7 release; simply unacceptable. The updates were methods of solving problems such as lag (it's much better now with Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast).
You're an XDA user man. Look around for a fix, don't just sit there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516061

A software update won't magically melt the extra glue in your N5. It was already determined that speaker sound required a hardware modification. There is a fix for volume on the N5 already, I think Google is aware of this and might put it in 4.4.1.

1) I didn't say custom roms don't get the bugs iron out i've been rooting/flashing for 4-5 years now and have used some amazing roms. I said they were not for the everyday user and if you don't know what you are doing it can be a hassle.
2) A lot of people argue that the Nexus 5 is a developer phone. I didn't say it was destined for XDA I almost said the exact opposite since average users are buying it.
3) Never said IOS 7 was good/bad nor have I ever used IOS. In your comparison though, lag vs. the entire camera not functioning.
4) I know how to search im just more of a lurker... and I've used that camera app before. The problem is not the quality of the image/camera and that is what that app is aiming to fix. I actually think the N5 is able to take great pictures in most situations. The problem with the camera is that while using apps that utilize the nexus's camera it will become unusable giving you a black/green screen with noise making the camera unusable until you reboot the phone.
I know the camera issue does not affect many users who do not use apps like snap-chat and a few others (or I think using face-unlock will also trigger this) but a lot of less tech savvy have been returning the phone thinking it doesn't function properly. For tech savvy users like us we know the new camera API is coming and can wait it out.
Also, they are exclusively featuring camera on the N5 in all of the commercials I have seen.
Funny story to go with this also. My GF suggested that I need to get a new phone since snap-chat doesn't work anymore... I just sort of laughed and said no way! But just thought it was an interesting perspective.
So who are these people returning their nexus 5 because of the camera? Are they in the n5 v g2 thread?

I actually get that issue quite often. Occasionally its just a black screen and gives a camera error. Doesn't fix itself until the phones restarted. Stock / Rooted.
There are FAR more iOS 7 users than there are Android 4.4 users. When 400 million iOS 7 users have an issue—92% of all iOS users out there—a lot of people are affected. When 1 million Android 4.4 users have an issue—1% of all Android users out there—this is a very tiny portion of the Android ecosystem and Google does not feel they need to resolve issues timely. You can blame Google and the entire Android ecosystem for this.

What rom do you have flashed?
They need to get an update for the n5 quick, to fix the 'bog roll' quality speaker which somehow manages to vibrate the phone more than the actual vibrator does.
There is a 4.4.1 update rolling out shortly. No link, but easily googled.

It should probably be mentioned that Google have decoupled several apps from the core OS that in iOS would require an OS "update".
For example, Chrome is now a separate update whereas Safari in iOS is not. If security updates to the browser are required, Google just updates Chrome in the Play store, whereas Apple would release an OS "update" which may in reality only affect the browser.
I'm not saying that is always going to be the case, but it may explain some of the timing "differences".
EDIT: Here's a good example, from the iOS 7.0.4 update:
Bug fixes and improvements, including a fix for an issue that causes FaceTime calls to fail for some users.

I'd like to see this working, but the last phone I owned that had a fully functional, non-buggy MIUI rom was the Samsung Fascinate back in 2011. Every other phone I've owned since then (roughly 6-7 devices) have had buggy, incomplete and/or barely usable MIUI roms. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like MIUI's time has come and gone.

Hmm I never really ran into crazy bugs. The biggest issue is lack of device support, it can be a major pain the ass to get them to work on new devices.
It took forever for them to release for the nexus 4 but when they did it was pretty solid.
I hope they do release a build just so i can give it a shot, probably not a daily driver.
I have some bad news.
I'm a Chinese and I have talked with one of MIUI's employers this morning.
MIUI will officially support Nexus7(2013) running 4.4.X in the future but it will take a few months before official release. (I guess it's because of their MiPad)
Nexus 5 is not on the support list right now. (Sun Peng is always bluffing on Weibo) (And Nexus4's MIUI is supported by developers rather than MIUI)
MIUI will not release 4.4.x patchrom in the near future because only few devices running KitKat now.
So, I don't think there will be a MIUI patchrom for 4.4.X before Feb.

True. Honestly though, even a perfect MIUI rom isn't going to have a place on my phone. It was great back in the Gingerbread days since stock Android wasn't really "there" yet, but I don't see what kind of advantage it could really offer over stock KitKat. In particular, I see the lack of an app drawer as a major hindrance at this point. My homescreen setup has gotten more and more efficient over the years (I'm down to 2 home screens + GNow). The last thing I want now is to have all of my apps puked out on a zillion homescreens and then try to organize it all. I realize I can use another launcher, but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of flashing MIUI in the first place.
Lets wait for it Tried miui v5 in htc desire S and it works great

The amnoyance in regards to this is that both the Note 3, S4 & S5 seem to have had a wider rollout so far than the Note 4. Likewise Samsung's PR were promising a rollout to Android within a couple of months of its final release when the Note 4 was released and thar seemingly has been abandoned too. It just leads to user apathy and distrust.

Hoping for honesty from the PR arm of an international chaebol is like nicely asking a stone if it wouldn't mind bleeding a bit. It also assumes that they are even remotely interested in providing these kinds of updates, that they communicate with the developers, and that they have that information in the first place. They've done their job already - you've bought a Note 4, so why should they care? Besides which, if they've already stated a timeframe previously, and been unable to meet it, they're going to be very cautious about announcing anything else apart from "it'll be ready when it's ready", and even that is unlikely compared to simply remaining silent.

OS Updates for mobiles are so much overrated.
What features did lollipop bring that are important to you?
I could even use gingerbread today and it would work for mostly anything that I'd want to do.

Sweet. I'll just enjoy that sexy Material OS on gingerbread. Ah nope. Can't do that. What about speed and efficiency? I can enjoy that. Ah nope. Not on GB either. Hmmm. What about those awesome notification cards. Ah nope. Still no luck. Thats ok I'll just make an app to enjoy using Level 21 API. Nope can't do that either. So I can send texts and make phone calls. Awesome. Same thing I could do on my Motorola i560. There are a ton of things to enjoy with Lollipop. I do understand where you are coming from. Lollipop is innovative, fast, beautiful and efficient. Those are things that can be very scary to someone so conservative.

This is totally true....why get a device like the Note 4 if you are ok with Gingerbread...I don't understand people who get such a good phone and don;t know how to eve use it...but rather use it for calls and messages only...

I sincerely hope this post is a joke; if I merely cared about apps I'd own an iPhone.
I bought a 800€ smartphone i espect to have the lastest and best software. Thats why so many people is going from android to iOS. If you have a iPhonne 6+ you have the lastest iOS. Next time a change smartphonne i am going to think twice before have Android or iOS, and for me Nexus line are no option, ugly and overrated. For me Samsung or HTC or LG (this two allready have 5.0 Lolipop)
I updated my Moto X 2014 to lollipop and it made it slower, worse battery and it stuttered more than it did on kitkat. Also with all the problems people were talking about on most of the phones that got the update(not just Samsung) why are people in such a rush? Google really messed up with lollipop.
I would like to get the S6 TW though.

I've not had any problems with 5.0 on my Moto X 2014
Performs like a champ. No FC's and no stutters or 'contacts stopped working' bugs.
That being said, It would be nice to see 5.1 sometime soon on both it and the Note 4. Had to rollback my Note 4 to KitKat as performance was so bad on lollipop for me.

why i want lollipop and Samsung to treat us better
based on google claims ...better security. no lags, the apps like quickpik can delete photos and much more usability...hoping for better camera.plus many other things on lollipop
every year I think of going back to the Iphone ,,,but now the iphone 6 plus is a real competitor ....but this upgrade policy and silence from Samsung is really annoying .
later this year if the iphone 7 competes with the note 6 I will have to consider changing to
iphone ....upgrades are fast on iphone ,works works worldwide every language preinstalled Samsung doesnt) both have good battery the iphone 6 plus better camera in most cases but marginal .the fingerprint
is a joke on note 4 .
im just ranting cause got another error re my names have crashed again. ...grrr
Finally android sumsung after all these years cant offer a full back up and restore .
this rant is after watching a friend of mine just buying a new Iphone 6 and everything but evething restores in one go ...awesom ...Im not rooted so it takes a whole day for me to restor everthing ... Im restarting my phone daily these days so bad day for me sorry about the ranting
come on samsung TREAT EXISTING CUSTOMERS better.

iPhone are great for fluidity and fast updates, but they lack the customization and freedom that android offers even with Jailbreak.
Also , I don't know if you need glasses or not, but the note 4 camera beats the iPhone any day in good light situations...both in photos and videos.

Yeah I didn't have major problems but the battery is worse and it just wasn't as smooth and quick as it was on kitkat. I didn't have the app redraws that others had but I put that down to a full wipe before and after the update.

Dont want to sound rude, but is there a point for one plus updating the 3.5.x builds?Rather than updating MM i think they should work on Android N .

This is a community build, not final or the like. They can't have two teams working on a ROM?

Had a quick look at the survey and spotted this... please tell me they are not thinking about adding more crap into their OS?
Have you installed Clean Master? *
If so, which feature do you use the most?
Clean Junk
App Lock, protect your privacy
Battery saver, hibernate apps
Antivirus
Phone Boost
Notification Management
Uninstall, backup and move your apps
I don't use it
I really do not like where this is going.

Honestly? I don't think so. Waste of money.
If they're working on a MM build, i suppose it will take veeeery long time before we can see something based on Android 7.

I know but... Only if you don't mind pictures quality....
given the direction OOS is heading (w/ the community builds) I'd prefer to stay on CM, just hoping OP drops the OOS camera blobs like Carl Pei said they would so we can have equal quality photography on custom ROMs soon
sad since OOS 3.2.4 is pretty amazing as is.

They already have two teams working on ROMs. One for OOS and the other for H2OS. This is probably done by the H2OS team. If you don't like it, don't use it and stick with 3.2.4 since this is just a community build.

At some point though they will deprecate 3.2.x and 3.5.x will take over with all of the (possible) value added software we love like cleaner master!.
Very thankful we have a fantastic dev community here who will strip out whatever crap OP put in.

There's no indication that they'll do that. But...you always have the option to install another ROM instead. OR as you said, strip **** out you don't want. But take into account that they're a Chinese company, with a vast majority of their user base probably is in China, so they want to cater that user base. I don't mind the visual aspects of 3.5, but you're right that more bloat is bad.
PSA if anyone hasn't already tried, installing a Substratum theme causes the phone to get stuck at 1+ logo upon reboot
