hey guys
so last week something unbelievable happened to me and i say unbelievable because no one will believe what happened but thats it what can i do about it xD OK so last week my G Watch fell from my hand while wearing it and it fell off on my Xperia Z from about 20 centimeters and i didn't care that exact moment because i said like WTF it wont harm the device and after 2 minutes i opened my phone aaand its just not working the screen was broken from the area on the left of the microphone and the phone wont work but from a special small area anyways i went to my local Sony agent and he told me that the digitizer cant be replaced alone and that they will be replacing the whole LCD Display so i went to some other 3rd party repair-shops and they said the same thing and they will be replacing it with a non-original Display that cost 1/5 the price of the one that the Sony Agent offered me ( Sony Agent told me that it costs 170 Jordanian Dinars which equals 240 USD and the phone itself new unlocked costs pretty much less than that in my country ( Jordan ) )
Anyways i was wondering guys if i can replace the digitizer alone by myself (by ordering it from eBay or so and disassembling the phone and replacing it at home ) or should i replace the whole LCD Display ?
(Sorry if i had any English mistakes but i"m not a native English tongue )
Best Regards,,,
I had broken touch screen and i watched video on YouTube how to repair just touch screen, ordered just touch screen from Ali and I broke the digitalizer so i ordered whole screen with mask after. My point is, if you don't have tools and skills (or is you first time) buy whole (touch screen + digitalizer) and replace them.
Good Luck!

thanks bro :good:
Digitizer and touch screen are glued together making it impossible to remove the touch screen without breaking the digitizer that is made of thin glass.
I replaced the combo on my first Z after my car key fell off from above 15cm or so onto the screen, same story as yours! (X_X)
But:
1/ Besides the combo touch + digitizer piece you also have to buy the sticker as the actual glue around the frame will get destroyed while removing the screen.
2/ If your phone is old, you might want to buy an original battery to replace your existing battery.
3/ While reassembling the battery in the phone make sure it does not stick out from the plane surface otherwise it will push on the glue and reopen your phone. Mine had a piece of plastic on its side with harpoon like features; it looked like it had been forced into place with harpoons retaining it: crappy design, to my opinion.
Some 3M strong and thin double side tape might also be useful to keep the battery into place especially if you keep the original one which might unfortunately get a little bent while un-glueing it from the case...
In any case, you should consider its waterproof feature gone!
Good luck!

Just dont go for non orignal diplay you will regret it, most probably they will order a whole new CHEAP QUALITY front panel from ebay which will have poor quality of screen and all the ports. Also the power button will become a bit hard to press.
I did the same mistake and gave my phone to a local phone repair shop which was cheap but my phone went dead the very next day after it came back from repair. I agree Sony Service Centre will charge more but your phone will be in best possible condition.
My suggestion go to Sony people for repair.....
Hope it helps you
Thank you guys very much i really appreciate your help and i think i'm going to the Sony agent because i dont have that much of experience to disassemble the phone and i might get it even worst instead of fixing it :\
again thank you really much guys
Just pay attention to pay a fake screen no original one there's a few different things between the original one

Hi
I recently dropped my diamond a few days ago and caused a big crack around the top right corner of my diamond.(it was only on a wodden floor ive dropped my n95 on concrete before and i havn't got a scratch) I didnt have any insurance or any cover on it. I rang up the htc customer helpline and they couldn't give me a final price, they quoted between £50-£100!!! I then rang up orange and they said that they would swap it for a one off fee of £30 + atleast a 4 month subscription to orange care at £6 a month. This comes to £54 which is a bit better but still quite a bit. It isnt the actual lcd screen broken and from what I can see its just the touch screen on top.(unless theres another layer of something). The phone is working fine, theres no problems using the touch screen except for when i tap it I can see pressure marks around the crack being applied to the lcd screen.
Is there any other place that could repair my phone for a cheaper price? I did look for the touch screen and I can get it for £30 but I would not want to risk opening my phone up and causing more damage.
Thank you
p.s. I can upload pictures of the crack if required
its better in the long run to send it off to a service center
this is a bit tough because it will cost you but thats the price
that you will have to pay, it will better in the long run than
buying the screen and doing a DIY bodge job on your phone.
HD
I am in the same side as HtcDia on that.
Send your phone to HTC, you'll pay the price but it's worth it.
Well I disagree with the other two posters in this thread.
I had a similar problem with a samsung phone and finally I bought the screen off ebay and ventured to change it myself (with some courage and no experience at all in this matters) and I succeeded!!.
Wall, as your phone isn't covered by warranty if I where you I'll try to change the touchscreen myself as it is the outermost layer it'll probably be easier.
Good luck
Who said his phone's not covered by warranty? Dropping it and cracking the screen isn't covered, but by replacing it yourself you'll likely void any warranty you do have. This means if you have problems in the future that are actually HTC's fault, and not just a simple mistake, they won't fix it for you. I know it sucks, it's not a good position to be in when you're down 50 pounds for a completely unintentional mishap... But I think that's the way to go. Sorry.
for some reason when im in landscape mode (ie when the keyboard is out) the touchscreen doesnt work at all.
it works perfectly when im in portrait mode though so im not sure what it is. Is it possible something got detached when the screen i slide out the screen? i didnt drop it so im not sure whats causing this problem.
Hi, I have the same issue as you currently, I have tried different ROMs and this problem persists. Have you found a fix for this yet or does anyone else know how to fix? I too fear it is a hardware problem but havent dropped it or damaged it in any way.
Strange, i've got this problem from today, touchscreen just stops responding once i slide keyboard out but the hardware buttons remain working...
but if i manually change screen orientation without sliding keyboard out, the screen is still responsive...
Anyone know what could be wrong?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561151
almost certainly. Mine started out being unresponsive in landscape mode (just suddenly stopped responding to touch) and then ended up black screening whenever i slid it open.
see pic 1 for what is probably happening. I've done the fix in pic 2 myself (although i've put felt on BOTH sides now) but if you have warranty then use it of course!!
HTH!
btw I think most X1 users are going to "Xperience" this at some point. I did nothing unusual to my device other than use it! Maybe Sony have addressed it since (mine was bought in January) but I doubt it....
i too have this problem!
i bought it off eBay though so i don't have proof of purchase for warrenty!
anybody know whether Sony ericsson UK accept xperia warrenty without proof of purchase?
i know someone i think in america got it repaired under warrenty without proof of purchase!
Hmm I'll give SE a call tomorrow
ive just sent my xperia off today in the UK but with the proof of purchase from o2, I believe it to be a hardware problem. However i would certainly see if you can blag it somehow to get it fixed, its obviously a problem from the manufacturer and we dont pay all this money for these malfunctioning products without some sort of decent warrenty!
unfortunately i couldnt get it fixed myself so i sent it to SE for repair.
i have the x1a (us version) and just called the xperia hotline and i sent it in. they didnt ask me for proof of purchase. i have already sent my xperia once before to repair the cracks in the body and keyboard.
im surprised as to how defective it is from normal usage. it seems very sturdy at first. i guess its also because i have never kept a phone for that long. i usually switch every two months.
well the guy i bought it off on ebay seems willing to help and is looking for the proof, if he can't find it then i'll just send it off anyway and cross my fingers!
worst comes to worst i'm 10£ short and i need to buy a new ribbon cable
@bigneeker
u switch every two months! my god you must be rich!
man the same exact thing happened to me today as well. first problems were when sliding out the keyboard to text someone and trying to press the send key during landscape display which wasn't registering so i had to close phone up to hit send. then later as u open the phone into landscape the screen was no longer responsive in that display.
then came the black screen when opened but if u hit the power button on during with the phone opened the picture would come out. now finally my phone has no image at all with the phone opened and can only work in portrait mode
i've had my x1 for about 10 months now so its still under warranty but man am i seriously disappointed with this. most likely they'll replace my ribbon with same cheap one and have to deal with this problem again in a couple of months.
same as above has just started happening to me too!
with mine though whenever i slide the keyboard out and it dosent work, when i slide back in it messes up all the screen alignment in portrait mode.
this fantastic phone is starting to get on my...s now!
I have exactly the same problem too! It started the day after the warranty expired! What should I do???
had the same issue, after a week t stopped workng at all. And they refues my waranty... And it would vost me 180EURov lol a ripoff!
So i took t home and dssasembled it, gues what, ribbon cable s halfway cut! Glue ddnt help, so i ordered nw one, 30EUR or 50$ from http://cnn.cn/shop/sonyericsson-xperia-c-28_638.html Thought i could also buy from ebay, same price.
Now i also ordered new housng from ebay, and this time i have and idea. i wll glue some small blockade inside sliding mechanizm. So it will prevent from cable being stretched too much when open/close.
Anyway, why THE **** DID SE NOT MAKE RIBBON CABLE LONGER!!!
Or w8, it was HTC, they did this on purpuse for SE?
Deffectve ribbon
To me this didn't occure yet, I hope will be later than sooner, but I wonder ... SE X2 has a different ribbon?
Maybe HTC is not as (market) neutral as they might expect it? )
the HTC direct product , like TouchPro, TouchPro2 have a same problem or not ?
Hope Yet
I just got the same issue, had my phone 1 year and 2 months now.
If you are in the EU your one year warranty becomes 2years on electronics regardless if the manufactures warranty is 1 year. Just so you know. Contact you local citizens advise bureau to find out or goggle it. Hope that helps.
the warrenty on the x1 (in the uk anyway) is 2years!
also! a warning about ebay housing, they are pretty much all fakes! and cause more trouble then they're worth! i pretty much wore out the screws whne i used one, had to literaly cut my phone apart from it!
cnn.cn is THE place to buy!

Uh oh... I disassembled my xperia to change the silver to black... I have a feeling my shoddy reassembly didn't help as after I did it slowly have some serious problems began. My reception/gps is terrible, cuts in and out all the time, my hinge is extremely loose and wobbly especially once in landscape mode, battery life has gotten a lot worse, and now as per the rest of us my landscape is pretty much useless with no touchscreen response also the screen alignment once back in portrait is way off.
I'm pretty sure I'm in for a similar surprise once i disassemble my poor phone again. Anyways any update on the new ribbon? I'm currently looking for a replacement tho even tho I really love my X1 for the most part, its hard finding a phone with similar/better features in my price range.
Hello overyone, I just bought off a old x1 which had the same problem. It was my 3rd phone. And i have replaced many screens. For now my conclusion is its the flex cable between the screen/buttons/touchscreen etc.....
you can buy them on ebay for about 28 dollars(incl. shipping)
Most of the time it is not the screen/touchscreen. Its the flex cable connecting it all.
see picture of the part i mean:
(search google for: "x1 flex cable"
Before opening phone: please be sure how to open it. Because it maybe very tricky to open if you are unexperienced!!!!!
Hope it help y'all

Hi,
Last night I knocked a small table and my girlfriends phone and a remote for the TV fell off.
We noticed that her phone now has a ring of black dots on the screen, mostly visible with a white background (E.G websites) but also from the home screen and the like.
We think she's cancelled her phone insurance, as she's never had a payment out to the company.
Can anyone tell me if its a Digitizer (What is one of these? Is it just the touch screen sensitive part of the phone?) Or the actual LCD Screen itself?
If you click on the photo it will load a larger image
Thanks for any assistance, kinda annoyed about this and wondering if I can repair myself with the parts on ebay. Or does anyone know how much HTC Charge to repair similar? Either in $USD, £GBP or €Eur, I can convert and get a ball park figure.
Hi
First of all is the phone still in warranty? If so take it back to an HTC dealer they should repair it for you for free. TD2 screens are not very good and it's a common fault. ( i had to have mine repaired after just only 3 weeks! )
The TD2 screen is made out of 2 parts, The touch screen or the 'digitizer' as you call it and a normal LCD screen underneath. You need to establish which has gone faulty.
If the touch screen still operates normally i.e the screen does not lock up or freeze and allows you to navigate normally then its the lcd screen below. If the touch screen is faulty one good way of checking is to put a piece of tape over the damaged area and try to lift it up a little to see if the marks / dots disappear and functionality can temporarily be restored.
Its hard to tell from your picture which it is..... sorry
I'm not sure how much a replacement by a dealer would cost, but i'm sure you can replace either yourself. ebay is a good place to look
Hope this helps.
I've had a reply from HTC UK who said the following:
That looks like there are a bunch of very small cracks in the screen. the black stuff is likely the Liquid Crystal from inside the display that has leaked out. If the dots get larger then it would definitely seem that the screen has got some cracks in it.
if this is the case, the standard charge for replacing the LCD is around £180 as sadly it is all one complete unit on the diamond 2, so it is not just the LCD underneath that needs to be replaced, but the whole screen assembly including the touchscreen layer and the actual LCD.
I hope this information helps you to make up your mind.
best regards,
Pete W

I'll see if I can find any HTC Dealer who will send it off on my behalf, but may just end up buying this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-Screen-Di...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL?hash=item588362a12d
Hi mate,
had the same problem...
the item you psetd from ebay is not the one you need to change.
you need a digitizer, not an lcd screen.
i got one from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=290376721935&view=all&tid=393718237019), it includes both the lcd and the digitizer, you can check ebay to find other auctions offering the digitizer only.
you can change the digitizer on your own if you don't mind loosing the waranty of your phone.
cheers
Hi,
I had already found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL?hash=item5882e7ef74
Will buy in a bit, funds are a bit short today.
The Touch Screen's functionality hasn't changed at all though, no sticking buttons or anything. So I suspect that its the LCD Screen thats damaged but will follow you're advise as you're going to have more experiance than me (and its the cheaper part to begin with!)
Scrap the above post.. my g/f has just told me that the dots on her phone are bigger/worse. Looks like its the LCD Screen afterall
i still believe it is not the LCD.
the digitizer is actually sitted on a glass, and the LCD is below that. it is very difficult to harm the LCD. i also though it was the LCD (at least i wasn't sure which was broken) so i ordered both of them.
if you disasseble the phone you will be sure if it is the LCD or not.
i vote for the digitizer
good luck, if you need any help, i'll be pleased to help you..
Just to update, A few days after I posted and got helpful advice on here.. she called me up to say the dots have disappeared, and they have still gone now a few days after.
She said she put it in the office where she works, under a printer paper tray, and the office was warm. Something has (maybe only temporarily) fixed it.
I´m having the same exact problem my nephew dropped my phone, i already dissemble it because i was not sure of the lcd type, but when i looked at the digitizer i didn´t see any dots, so i´m not sure what to repair, TS or Digitizer, i allready tried with the tape to pull the digitizer, when it was apart i couldn´t see anything on the lcd no marks at all, opinions please.
cheers
Well F**K me! just bought a second hand diamond 2 to replace my xperia...
...seemed to work great checking it out... went home with the phone in my pocket... and as soon as I turn it on the touch screen doesn't work
dissected the whole phone only to discover the digitizer is glued to the bezel!
I ordered this from Ebay, will update if I got it working with the brand new housing + digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380166349182&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Please report back here on this thread if it works

If you can make some photos of the digitizer and the lcd dissasembled maybe, but It seems unlikely to break the lcd when you didn't completely trashed your digitizer.

Also the LCD didn´t had any marks at all, but i´m going to buy the TS+LCD and replaced by parts first the lcd because it´s a lot easier to replace then if the problem persists the TS.
I will post the result later when i get the parts to replace.

Can anyone confirm the above link as being both Lcd and Digitizer? I'm sure it doesn't mention it in the listing but the picture looks like it's showing both connectors.
Most likely only the LCD that's my conclusion if you look at the sellers store.
But to be sure e-mail the seller and ask.

Soooooo, as I've already posted here, My digitizer was busted on the phone I just bought... what I didn't tell was that I ordered a digitizer, then checked if I could remove it easily...came to the conclusion that I couldn't... and ordered a digitizer+housing so I could easily fit it on.
the mail brought me the digitizer today, and while knowing a better solution was on it's way I couldn't resist and try if I could make it work.
Turns out it super easy to seperate the digitizer from the bezel using a hairdryer (softening the glue) and a knife:
Take your phone apart, just the 4 screws, click the plastic center off it. Remove the digitizer cable, the touchscreen cable and the speaker cable.
now you are able to remove the green plate which holds all chips and stuff.
underneath that is the screen, lift it up gently going under it from the gap the removal of volume buttons leaves, put it away safely.
Now remove the speaker, the buttons under the zoom bar, and the power button(don't forget the the power button, and rubbery thingy that falls out of the bottom, the hole needs to be at the bottom when putting it back in).
your phone should be completely empty by now... just the front and the digitize glued together.
make the front of the phone reaaaaaaaaaallllly hot, put the knive between the metal and the digitizer (I started at the part where the zoombar is) and gently push it between the two parts... (from the inside of the phone to the oudside). Now just keep the whole thing above the dryer to keep it warm and slowly slice your way around the phone (no secret wires are there that you can cut through).
I used some random glue I had lying around to glue the front back to the new digitizer... perfect!
so the screen is like new now
ps bought this digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.nl/Touch-Screen-Dig...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item45eed6effc
Thanks for that jodeltje.
It sounds exactly the same as when i replaced the digitizer on an Omnia. Really not as hard as one might imagine. Taking your time and being careful are the most important things.
Hey guys,
I came into same boat last night.
Dropped my T-Mobile MDA Compact V from 2.5ft table, Backwards (Not towards LCD) and now it has black dots on screen. I guess the LCD has pressed backwards by chip sets.
Here is a screenshot.
I think its LCD damaged but I don't have cash to replace nor device warranty.
Do you think the problem solves eventually? Coz once I had dropped sony mobile and it too had same issue but solved after many days.
Hopefully it solves.
BTW; does LCD affixed to Digitizer? by seeing service manual, it doesn't look like it is. And I afraid to get cheap hongkong LCD screens for about 30$ since they won't be true quality display. i.e blueish.
Thanks...
Best Regards
hello CRACING,
sorry about what happened to you...
from the picture i can say that you have a problem with the digitizer...
your LCD is ok.
i tend to have this problem over and over again the last 1,5 years... i replace the digitizer (or the glass on which the digitizer is attached to) every 3-4 months..
yes the ones you get from ebay are not that good quiality, but well it keeps the phone working...
if you need assistance on replacing the digitizer, i can help you, by providing pictures and istructions...
cheers
hi all,
i got a bargin latly and have now got a note but the main donside to this is that is has a chip/crack on the edge of the screen near the menu button.
i need to know anyone oppinion if i can get away with just repacing the digitizer or wil i have to repace the full lcd aswell, im really low on cash now but iv been checking ebay and heres what i found
digitizer - £8.95/$13.89
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-White-Digitizer-lens-Glass-Screen-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-i9220-N7000-/300733099033?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460516ec19
full lcd + digitizer - £118.04/$138.24
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Touch-Digitizer-Screen-for-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-GT-N7000-i9220-white-/221002976265?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3374cdcc09
iv added the pics bellow and would love feedback to see what is the best situation for me. my so called local samsung repair centre who carnt even fix phones propperly (feedback from alot of people with broken screens) said that i have to replace it all and they quoted me £180.
please let me know guys
Ive seen worse
A simple digitizer replacement should suffice, theres numerous how to videos on you tube.
Just take your time and do not rush it, Also, Dont skimp on the price, If you get a cheap aftermarket digitizer, the performance might not be as good as a genuine one.
Finally, once you get it fixed, There is an app that can tune the sensitivity so you can get it perfect I think its called screentuner im not sure, google it !

thanks man really appreciate your help i didnt realise if i got a cheaper one would make it work crap. how much would you say to speand roughly?
btw i kno it isnt the worst but i ike my phone to be in mint condition especialy as i get bored very easy then it ends up in the mp withing 2 months lol
im not saying buy a really expensive one and get ripped off, I just mean dont buy one made from cheap parts, Like a chinese one.
If you could afford it, Buy genuine, If you cant, buy a recommended one, Check the sellers feedback and scour the internet for recommendations, There may even be some in the accessories section
EDIT: Im unsure whether the amoled screen is an all in one screen, Meaning the screen also recognises the touch and there is no digitizer, Does your phone respond to touch ?
Look at this i found on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Outer-Len...arts_Tools&hash=item20c7b38727#ht_2782wt_1037 It is just the outer glass screen, So if you get this, It wont affect the touch response :good:
I understand that it would affect the sale price, but be careful as I've found the most difficult thing to do is to separate the digitizer from the LCD screen without patience. The safest route would be to get the Digitizer + LCD costs, but ofc it costs ridiculously higher than just the digitizer.
For howto videos, search for "Galaxy Note Disassembly" on YouTube.
Yeah +1
Upon some more searching it seems like a really tricky job, Some say impossible, The choice is yours really, Try it and hopefully save your self some money, Or take the hit and get the whole package - Screen, Glass, digitizer ect.
You could also look at some sort of glass crack repair kit, Like they do on car windscreens, Its only a little crack where the soft keys are so its not disrupting the view of the screen, And it might just save some £££ and a lot of hassle too
again thanks guys,
the thing is all aspects of the screen are fully functioning. it did get it at a very good price i will admit it was cheap but it was only because it was too big for the women who had it previous and cex offered her £190 but wouldnt take it because o the crack!
im all for making sure my device look good i know you can say it doesnt ook bad but its just if it was cheap enough to fix i will do it. or if i end up putting it in the MP in a few weeks when i bored it can either buy and throw in the digitizer or the full pakage.
over than that this is why i posted iv never dont it before and iv sceen my mate do his galaxy s1 but thats it lol
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Today my phone leaped out of my hand and shattered its screen on impact with the ground.
I rang a local phone repair man, and he said he could replace the glass for £50. Great!
When I got home I did a quick search and found a few places where it said that this is not possible, something to do with the glass being stuck to the LCD underneath. Apparently you need to replace both the screen and the glass together.
Does anybody had any experience with this? Am I going to be stuck with a hefty repair bill?
Thanks
The glass is with the digitizer wich are very hard to be separated, even impossible. But if he has some spare part from another SXL he can give you a lower price i guess. I don't think that the price is to low. Here it costs about 120 eur. So you can ask him if its a new or used one. Just to be clear. And don't forget to take your battery with you when you leave the phone. Because there is 99% chance that they swap your battery
XL imposible to change digitizer only

On HTC XL it is imposible to change digitizer only .I just experience myself and ruined semi usable phone with cracked but fully working glass. Touch digitizer screen and lcd are (unlike some other models) GLUED together.!.
So sellers who sell digitizer only for 30$ are essentialy fakers, not telling you that it is imposible to change Digitizer only. But for 30$ many try and both throw that money and render phone totaly unusable. So they must buy whole LCD +TOUCH assembly that is much expensive. now about 150$ .
TIP: If you have cracked SXL - use it that way if you can (like me 30day with almost no problems) or buy whole assembly. No middle here
