Do you think think its worth jumping to the s7 from the s6? what are your guys thought?
I'm thinking about it. I'm interested in the bigger battery, the IP67, and the return of the SD card.. Th IP67 is a big one for me.
However I'm also really interested in never spending that kind of money for a dang phone again, so there's that. I really like the Mi5 if we can ever get it, and I'd like to see Moto's next gen stuff. I almost went X pure instead of S6, but I didn't want that big of a phone.
It is a personal decision for sure but I have been on the Galaxy line since S3 and all of them right up to my current S6 have been rooted and absolute work horses with each subsequent phone being that much better.
Can someone explain to me how jump actually works? I have an s6 edge. If I trade it in for an s7 edge do they credit me something for my device? I put 200 down and paid another 200 towards the balance. I just don't want to be out 400 bucks only to start over.

can you send it to me as well. im in the same delimma, im already over 200 in and i dont want to start over on another phone. im also on Jump 1. you think its better to stay on it or go to on demand?
I think liquid cooling may be enough for me to jump on the band wagon. I also like the ip68 water resistant protection. As far as liquid cooling goes I find my s6 is to sluggish when temperature throttling kicks in. This is a huge flaw imo. It heats up too quickly especially since I am a multitasker. Also the gear vr is almost unusable because it turns into a pancake griddle after 10 min of use. This time I am going to see if the s7 will be a better fit.

Jump on demand doc:

I'm really torn about upgrading to the s7 myself. Unfortunately, I opted out of the Jump program when I got my s6, so I'd have to sell my phone myself and can't trade it in.
Sammy's made all the right improvements in the s7.
It's very tempting for me but the removal of the ir blaster closed the deal for me :/
Honestly once we get mm on the s6 most of my quirks with the s6 will be gone and I'll be a happy customer once more. I might even try to put a s7 battery in my s6.
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Honestly, I am going to wait for like 3-4 months until after the s7 has been released. This way I can see if there is support for great custom ROMs like XtreStoLite or XtraLite as well as kernels like arter97. I wouldn't be able to bring myself to get a brand new phone without root, have to deal with bloat, and can't customize it with ROMs for months to come. Also, it's generally a good idea to get the newer devices a few months after launch so that many of the bugs can be ironed out. I prefer to have a flawless and bugless experience when upgrading phones!
I pre-ordered... A few reasons why...
1: I'm on Jump on Demand and have 3 trades left in 8 months
2: The preorder extras (GEAR VR and year of netflix)
3: The IP68 and memory card reader
Those are my main reasons for switching... mainly the Jump on demand, the rest is just extras on top

It depends on which Jump version you are on. Theres V1, V2, and On Demand.
V1 is every 6 months you can trade it in, regardless of what you owe. They'll pay off the balance on your EIP.
V2 is every 12 months, and you have to have 50% of your phone paid off. They'll pay whatever is left of your EIP after that initial 50%.
On demand is the lease program. You can trade it in up to 3 times in any 18 month period. You don't technically own the phone so the whole EIP thing doesn't exist.
edit: just learned no IR on the S7.. Dangit Samsung, you've always got to screw up at least 1 thing!

There are different ones? I thought they were the same. Anyway, yes it will fit. Side by side the S6 and S7 are the same size. The volume buttons are slightly lower by a few millimeters but that's it aside from the beveled edges and other very minor changes. I tried it in my S6 case and it fits (not as snug but it would work if I were in a dire need). I'll be picking up my VR's at the store tonight so I'll try my S6 in them... before I leave the store since I have to hand over the "old" phone.
I've loaded this phone with every benchmark app I can think of and it's coming out with double the marks of the S6. 3DMark running the Slingshot ES 3.1 test got 2555. The S6 gets around 1220. I'm at work so I can't type everything, plus this isn't my thread. That said, I assume you know to take benchmarks with a grain of salt. Even so having double the numbers speaks to the S7's capability on paper and under real stress. I'm done with my tangent now :silly:

It does. The S7 is nearly identical in size and dimensions to the S6. I played with one at Costco and was surprised at how identical it was. The only difference was the color. Fortunately I had my Gear VR in my bag (was letting coworkers test drive it that day) and was able to plug it in. Fits exactly like my current S6 edge. It prompted to download the software so I ejected it but it does work and fit.

My first Samsung was a note, the original. After dropping it and graciously given an upgrade for free and 75 bucks towards a new phone, I thought great note 2.
Well the note 2 is unlike my original note in many ways, I think it lacks a few features of interest the S4 holds. Anyones thoughts on the s4 over the s4 active?
I love the s4 active but it has an LCD screen which turns me away but its the price you pay for a waterproof phone. Amoled ftw

Depends on what you want. Active of course can be used underwater and has a higher ppi screen with "glove touch". However, the regular S4 has a much better camera and is lighter/sleeker. I prefer the regular because when carrying in my pocket I like a slim phone. Plus, even though I don't take a lot of pictures it is nice to get good quality shots when my camera is not around. Both have strengths over the other.

In the end I went with
s4. I got it in the 32 gig. I sure miss the size of the original note though. Cant say the note 2 left a bad impression on me, but it certainly was note like the original..
The s4 all said and done cost me a mere 175 with my discounts, they were nice enough to allow me to keep the usb cord from the note 2, even installed a screen protector (free).
Now to pick a case. With 96 gigs of storage I have no need for clouds, that's for sure.
Thanks all who replied, your opinions helped.

Just ordered this sweet case off Amazon. It took me literally one whole week to decide on a case lol. CASE
I definitely hate phone shopping and more so accessory shopping. Rather pay a visit to the dentist or suffer some life threatening trauma then to try pick a quality phone I am stuck with for 2 yrs.
That case looks nice, and great price, I am debating on something a bit different though. Clip and a hard shell.
I still have to return the otterbox for the note 2. Never even opened the package lol.
I as well need to root this phone. The note 2 was rooted 5 minutes after opening the box. Thanks to several of the guides, I unrooted and returned as well with the guides easily. Rep never even looked at the phone.
A whole other topic.
The only problem for me is : how to place my S3 ?
Maybe the Samsung can recall the S3 for 150 $:laugh:
I'm just wondering which one are you all going to get... I'm going back and forth on which one to get... I mean the N4 will be great but that Edge looks nice and "the next big thing", but I'm hoping it's not just a gimmick... Also I'm wondering about development for the Edge... Since you all are experts here on XDA, your opinions are worth something... Thanks in advanced...

I'm left handed so Note 4 for me. Even if I was right-handed, I'd probably wait a gen to see what Samsung and devs can do with the Edge. The fact that it's supposed to significantly more expensive than the 4 (which is already $750-$820 off contract) helps with my decision as well.
The cost was originally stopping me from going with the edge. Just watched this hands on video a little while ago and I didn't like the looks of it.

I'd love to see a taskbar with all open apps on it kind of like a desktop computer. If they had that option out of the gate I might consider it, might be convenient. I know the N4 has the running programs soft button, but it's still nice to see all your apps on a taskbar. I'm torn, but I'll probably play it safe and grab the vanilla N4.
Note 4 for me. Some dev will probably port the the note Edge rom for the 4. That be the best of both worlds.
Love the Edge. But price and release date are evasive and will likely be prohibitive.
Dynamic notifications kinda kills the coolest part. However moving menu items and shortcuts to it can be such a Time saver.
The Edge is expected to be $1,000 for the 32GB model and per Samsung's presentation, the curve display is part of their "ecosystem" strategy along with the watch. I take that as, you need to use Wiz and the curve display is proprietary.
Seems the Edge might be the antithesis of a device for the XDA forum.
Note 4 for me cause I need me the Gear VR.

No one is even mentioning any information about preordering the edge, I guess it comes out really late this year. Since i can't do VR, I am not interested in the edge. I don't think this device will be very popular.
Isn't the "edge" just a piece of the regular screen real estate wrapped around the edge? That is, we really aren't gaining any screen real-estate?

You actually lose .1" of real estate.
This could be the reason why there hasnt been any mention about preordering the Note Edge
Samsungs own president said the Edge is a concept phone and not intended for mass production. That equals very rare and very expensive.
The other thing I read about it is that it is shorter than the Note 4, but wider. I have a Note 3, and I have trouble reaching from one side to the other with my thumb (I play Ingress, so this happens often). If I ended up with a phone even a milimeter or 2 wider, it would be impossible -- and I've got large hands.
I think it is a novel concept, and I hope it sells enough to warrant a second generation. But I also hope they make something useful and usable as the second edition.

I am switching from Verizon to AT&T so I need to get a new phone. Since AT&T doesn't offer Motorola smartphones, I have narrowed my choices down to the S7 and S5 (or maybe the S5 active). I have looked at the specs for both and they seem pretty close. I am not a heavy phone user, mostly just Facebook, email, Pandora, and a few games here and there. Also need a decent camera. Trying to decide if the S7 is worth the extra money over the S5. What is everyone's thoughts? Thank you.
P.S. I am not looking at the S6 due to lack of a SD card slot.
Well the S5 is 2 years old, going on 3. When I updated my wife's phone, they didn't offer the S5. I love my S5 Active, however, there will be more support for the S7, while the S5 is nearing its end of life. Also, I heard a S7 Active was right around the corner.

My first smartphone was Samsung Galaxy S (captivate), then got S3, and now I am on S5. This probably will be my last Samsung phone combined with AT&T service.
If you have an individual plan, instead of moving to AT&T with S5 or S7, I would recommend just going to Project Fi with Nexus. When I did the math, I realized that I would actually end up saving even though my current monthly AT&T plan includes a 22% corporate discount. At the end of the day at a lower price point you will get refund on unused data, free tethering, more frequent software updates, free international service (with limits), and overall the service tends to use much less data since it better auto connects to free wifi hotspots that Google knows about. You can go with the Nexus 6P or go with the $200 Nexus 5 and do an upgrade when Nexus 7 or whatever comes out since you can pay off the phone sooner with the savings benefits.

I too love my active, however, no root means lack of roms. So marshmallow will most likely be the last update we get, unless att decides to unlock our bootloader. A better option would be to get an international s5 or s7 to unlock. I do believe they even have the active as an international model.

The s5 and s5 active have identical specs. The only difference is the active is a little more rugged. As for rooting, it's the same thing as jailbreaking an iPhone. It gives you administrative access to all parts of your phone, not just limited access. It's mainly for power users.

I'm a huge Samsung fan. All of my consumer products have become Samsung as all of my hosting / webTech is HP.
As I do wish they would quit dropping the ball and put out that 1 "here's for you world" dev phone with it all, i dont honeatly foresee it. (S5 lacks sufficient ram, S6 not even gonna start, S7 locked bootloader, seemingly salvation S7 international dropped NFC).
Now onto the discussion, of all of the options available, i see no question. Forward moving with forward support points to the S7 Edge. Personally, im grabbing the international exynos version as my NFC only gets used to tinker with tags here and there. I have to play with and mod everything. Example: today i bought a 5 Bay Sata NAS enclosure. First things first, all screws out. Nice heatsink, hmm, no chipset fan.....this simply will not do. 45 minutes later and she's purring cool awaiting my infinite search requests for classic endless terms like root, rom, hashcode and it's favorite ".zip".
I'm curious if my S7 will overtake my collection of warranty voided and in some cases paperweightes S5's. All in all, if you're a remotely busy person on your phone, the S7 ram is more than worth it. But......if you watch a lot of TV, go S5 - Samsung felt the IR blaster was too passe for a flagship device.

I agree. I dont need the wallet as in my small town in rural Tennessee, there are only 3 retailers that take it. everything else is swipe and go. I am about due for an upgrade. 2 years on my s5 and it is well.. old. been a great device. I personally will be very hesitant to grab the S7. Since work pays for it, I may look at a non samsung device. maybe even HTC or a Nexus. Root to me is essential because of the ability to truly customize and debloat.

In rural Oklahoma it's the same. In the city I work 30 minutes away takes more NFC. Even then I still find myself using my card. Man you're lucky with work paying for the phone. My job gets me 22% of my AT&T bill.

I think on S7, the Samsung Pay feature is different than the NFC wallet and works with any point of sale credit card reader even in small towns. From my understanding S7 has some specialty hardware that mimics electromagnetic signature of credit card's magnetic strip when held next to ordinary traditional credit card swipe readers. http://www.samsung.com/us/samsung-pay The specialty hardware was as result of acqusition of LoopPay by Samsung. http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-techn...samsungs-looppay-mobile-payment-system-works/

Personally I've never used a screen protector on any of my smartphones dating back to the T-Mobile G1 and I'm presently on my 19th. Never had a scratch or an issue with any of the screens. There are some new things for Samsung now, you can use Substratum with out root, you will need the Sungsratum add on too. There is also a thread on layers where you can get dark notifications and change the ugly Samsung nav bar icons. And get a good case, it's an expensive phone to replace if you drop it.
Keep your receipt ( jk ).

Touchwiz isn't the monstrosity it use to be, it's actually enjoyable since the S7, it manages resources well. I only get 2% drain. Overnight. Your going to probably love the note 8. Battery life is really impressive and I came from a s8+

Not to be a jerk but the reviews are not that great. I would just take my chances with a $8 film. Did I look up the wrong product?

I've used it. works fine. look at what kind of product it is and the installation process. You're bound to get people complaining because they couldn't do it right. You could argue it's whitestone's job to make the application process as foolproof as possible, but ultimately, they have a product that works, and an installation process that works. So many of those ratings aren't ratings against the utility and functionality of the product, it's ratings against their inability to apply it for whatever reason.
---------- Post added at 17:38 ---------- Previous post was at 17:37 ----------
Keep in mind that they changed the installation process like 2 or 3 times since it first came out so a good number of those reviews were people who were using the early versions of the product.

Ah OK that makes more sense. I just picked up a Note 8 yesterday so I'm new to the scene here.
Thanks for all the tips everyone! I am LOVING this phone! I never realized how slow my Nexus 6P has become until I tried the Note 8!!! The speaker worked just fine on speaker phone, the fingerprint/face/Iris scanners all work flawlessly. I ordered a case and the flat wireless charger for my nightstand and plan on ordering the wireless fast charging charger on Friday...
Any other tips...settings to tweak, cases that work well., accessories that are useful?
Thanks again!!
you have to check the respective forums/threads for all that type of info man..plenty of stuff out there, but this isnt the thread to discuss all those various topics..

I am finally leaving my Nexus 6P for the Note 8. My phone went dead while on a call and I still had 30% battery left. Google said they would give me a refurb 6p but it's a 2 year old phone...time to upgrade. I took advantage the $250 off deal from Best Buy and the Verizon payment plan...
Anything I should be aware of or settings I should tweak right away? I haven't had a Samsung phone since the Note 4 (I had the Note 2 before that)...Is Touchwiz any better than it was with earlier phones? I watched several reviews and it looks so much better then I remember...
Thanks!!!

You just left the last of the grown up phones from Google. Now they make phones for kids. Pixel? What were they thinking? Anyways the Note8 is a great phone. The best phone I have ever had. My 2nd favorite phone was my Nexus 6. That was the first phone that I actually kept for the full 2 years and never got tired of. You will like the Note8 it's a great phone. Guess we can hope that Google will bring back the Nexus line.

This IS the Questions & Answers forum right? Why not have ONE topic with everything in it...
I agree with you Jason; I still have my Nexus 6, and it still works just fine, but this Note 8 is really something..
I've had many Sammy phones over the years, but didnt care for them much recently; now that touch jizz is easily bypassed, and there is more than enough power in the Note 8 for doing all sorts of stuff, this is the premier phone out right now..sure, it would be nice if the bootloader was unlocked on the snapdragon model, but frankly, I couldnt care less about rooting it right now, since it works so well right out of the box..
Really? I find the battery life on this terrible compared to S8+

For me note 8 seems to give a slight better battery life
So it's that time of year again when a new and honestly beastly lime of Samsung flagships is announced. The Galaxy S20 line looks legitimately promising but is it enought to give up the Note 9 and S pen though? Or are you gonna wait to see what the Note 20/+/Ultra has to offer a few months down the line.
I wanna see everyone's view on these new phones that ol Sammy has announced. I'm personally on the fence. I want the new tech but I just know the Note line will blow it out of the water later this year so it leaves room for a potential bait and switch lol.
What about you all?
Note line for me. Still have my Original Note1,2,3,4,5,FE,8,9,10...gonna see what Note11(20) has in store. If anything like the S20 I I'm sure it will be a beast.

It'll most likely be even more of a best but I'm still on the fence to be honest. Like I want to check out the 20 Ultra but I know it's be upset if I got it and then the note big brother died up later lol

Note line as long as the hole in the screen is gone. Nothing about the S line has ever really want me to part with money.

I'm intrigued with just about any new midrange to flagship phone that comes out.
However, I usually steer clear of the S lineup for a few reasons.
1) No S-Pen. I rarely use it, but, it's nice to have when you want/need it. The price difference between the top of the line S series & the Note is negligible considering you get the S-Pen & usually some newer hardware/software features.
2) I don't particularly care for the curves on the S series, preferring the boxier look of the Note.
3) The hole punch. Yeah, you can (probably) hide it, just as you can on the Note 10, but, that kinda sux that you sacrifice screen real estate for a cleaner look. The fact that all the marketing pix hide it w/dark gradient wallpapers & having a software option to hide it is an admission that it's an awful stopgap before the hidden FFC's are available.
I'd be lying if I said I'm not tempted to get the S20 Ultra. The 5G speeds alone are definitely appreciable, both the Note 10 & OP7T Pro are definitely snappier with it. However, the eye-watering price of $1400-$1600 USD is a hard pill to swallow.
The only way I'll jump ship is if pre-order trade-in offers on the carriers (T-Mobile US here) is a lot better than the $300 that Samsung is offering. Otherwise, I'm hanging on to the Note 9 until the Note 20 arrives, or longer. Mine is running just as well as it did on opening day & battery health is still around the 95% range, kinda hard to trade it in for the measly $210 that T-Mobile is currently offering. (Not particularly interested in bothering with listing it on Swappa & the like, last time I checked, way too many available for sale,it's a buyer's market)
In the meantime, I scratched my itch for new hardware yesterday.
T-Mobile slashed the price of their Pixel 4 lineup:
Pixel 4XL was $899,sale price as of 2/12/20: $499.
Pixel 4 was $799,now 50% off as of 2/12/20: $399.
Got it (4XL) on T-Mobile's JOD, $0 down & free overnight shipping, ETA 2/14/20.
Will use it as a daily driver for the first week or two, long enough to determine if it's a keeper (for a backup/secondary phone) or, send it back during the buyer's remorse grace period.
Is the S20 worth getting?
I wouldn't fault anyone who doesn't want to wait for the next Note to land, but, I'd definitely stay away from the smallest one, as it doesn't have the MM Wave variety of 5G. Yeah, I know 99% of the US doesn't even have it available, present company included, however, @ $1000, no sale here.

Still loving my note 9. I see no reason to upgrade. Note9 still is peak smartphone for me. Note 10 was a step backwards (I don't like notches or holes in my display, and I like my headphone jack).
Note 11 or 20 or whatever likely isn't an upgrade for me either. Note 9 still goes two days on a charge unless I game on it, still fast as when I bought it, and still takes great photos. I'll wait until some of that changes.
My wife and I might be switching to something a little more stock related later this year. Just tired of bloat, crappy support when it comes to issues, and definitely something a lot cheaper. Maybe if Google does things right, I might just get two Pixel 4a/XL or whatever when they eventually come out? Not sure to be honest. OnePlus is now up there with the big guys in pricing so that might not happen. Don't know, but I do know that I will be keeping my Note 9 as a backup.

I'm gonna try my best to keep my 9 but I can't do pixels only because Google refuses to put in a micro SD card slot. That and the specs don't ever really impress me. There's never a wow factor. Besides it being stock Android there's nothing cool about it

Did you know cars have 4 wheels, and some even have 3? Brakes, windows, and engine, some gas, electric, diesel, and now hydrogen? They even have lights. Whoa. Wait, they should stop cloning each other!!!! I want a car without disc brakes!!! Needs to use polarity transfer for stopping before I buy it....
Bruh, it's called competition. You have to use some of the likeness of your competition if you're trying to tell their customers, "hey you can do the same thing over here, but a little cheaper." Well, you don't have to, but it sure makes it easier to win. I don't know what to tell you man. Go buy a windows phone? Oh wait those are the same too....
By the way, at the core of ios and android....same architecture...tsk, stupid clones, they're even using the same screens...?

Yeah, the one thing I hate about the pixels is the affordability no longer really being a bumped compared to my Note 9. Putting shiny wrapping on a turd doesn't make it hot sh....you know where I'm going with this.
Luckily for me, my wife doesn't even use the spen, so I just need to make sure I get her a phone that's compatible with xfinity mobile that won't cost an arm and leg. ?

Not liking the price though, it's getting to the point where it's outside my price range, no justification in spending so much on a pocket pc that can be damaged, lost or stolen so easily...
And the note lineup is gonna be so much more expensive than the S20 variants...
Nope, kinda pissed that the plain note 10 is smaller than the 9 the 10+ is the same size as the 9 so you pay more for less? I kind my full rounded screen. The notch hole punch, whatever their doing these days. I like having a whole screen. The biggest thing for me is personalization. You look at iPhone and everyone has the same layout and everything. With Android is free reign. I like being in control of my device more so than the other way around

Exactly!
I may skip yet another year in the Note upgrade game, & this is coming from someone who got the Note FE (still have it).
The Note 10+5G (T-Mobile US) is a beast,warts & all.
However, while the 5G speeds are nice,if you have already fast 4G LTE &/or Wi-Fi most of the time, it's a hard sell when you have a perfectly fine Note 9 & that's why I returned mine during the buyer's remorse period.
If the Note 20 is priced much more than the S20 Ultra, I'll probably sit out another upgrade & will continue to do so until my Note 9 battery takes a nosedive....

I'm actually waiting to see what Samsung does with the new note. I just came from IOS to Android and I've always loved the Note series but I couldn't afford the Note 10 + currently so i got the note 9 for like $350 and it's so damn good. By the time Samsung announces the new note I should be financially stable enough to get it on launch day so I'll be patient and continue to use this beast of a phone.
Ladies and gents the Note 9 is the goat! When the 10 came out with the hole punch I was not loving it but I tried the 10+ before I bought the 9 I was using my note 8 which was great but the battery was poor life otherwise note 8 was great. So the note 10+ I bought was having very poor reception and when I was gaming some of my buttons were near the hole punch and it was effecting game performance so I looked at note 9 specs and seen that it's the last note with headphone jack no hole screen and 4000mah battery! Plus when I had finally decided to upgrade from note 8 the 9 had been out a year and a half so the prices were coming down, I bought not 1 but 2 note 9 from Samsung on ebay for 349.99 brand new! I am fully prepared for this to be the last phone I ever use...
