There is no perma root for your variant and version, its temp root by kingroot.. Try kingroot with the combination of sunshine, and check if you can unlock your bootloader..

Towelroot doesn't work for Moto G 2nd Gen as far as I know.
Root with Recovery can be found here
But first you need to unlock you bootloader. Look at this thread to unlock bootloader.

AT&T Moto X - 4.4.4 - Root & Unlock Boot loader?

Is there any root method that will work for an at&t moto x running on 4.4.4 and unlock bootloader? Or am i stuck running stock?
Enjoy stock, you're stuck. Unless you find a bootloader unlock code.
Next time search, this question has been answered too many times already.
Always read the stickies... Like this one from the general section,

?
What the hell.. c'mon man it's been like 10 years... still not a method.
You may have found some threads on here that recommend Sunshine, a $25 app that you can download (link below). The developers say that it may work for some users that are on 4.4.4. Try it. It will confirm for you whether it will unlock before you pay. It successfully worked for me when I was on 4.2.2. Good luck.

Your bootloader is UNlocked? If so, just flash TWRP recovery, reboot-bootloader, go into TWRP and it should prompt you to root. If not, install SuperSU zip from TWRP.
Now, if your bootloader is still LOCKED, then you are stuck. Sunshine has not worked on ATT XT1058 that has 4.4.4 on it. (and before you ask... no, you can't safely/successfully downgrade all parts of the X in order to use Sunshine).
As for how long its been... As android matures, there are less and less bugs and vulnerabilities to exploit/hack to gain root access if you can't unlock the bootloader. The number of people capable of finding them dwindles too.

That is sad. I tried to use sunshine just now on xt1058. Says I have no root (after attempting temproot).

[Q] Pre-root HTC One M7?

Hello,
So I made a thread earlier about my Verizon HTC One M7 on 5.0.2 asking if I was able to root it.
Y'all basically said I need to use Sunshine S-Off to unlock my bootloader so I can root. So I downloaded the Sunshine-latest.apk file and it says I need to "Pre-root" before I can use it. I'm confused. The app that's going to root my phone needs root to work? That doesn't make sense. I now understand that S-off is needed for roms, but I don't want roms. I just want root apps. I'm still confused on why S-off is necessary for root, and apparently root is needed for Sunshine S-off.
Anyways, does anyone know how I can pre-root (Temp root?) my phone so I can use Sunshine? And what do I do after I get S-off to root my phone? Is there anyway I can root without S-off? I just want root access no roms.
Thanks for all those willing to help. Sorry I sound like such a noob (I am)

Yes I remember but don't understand why you created a new thread again for the same issue... Your previous thread is only 3 days old.

Right because Verizon asked HTC to block their phones from being unlocked the normal way using htcdev.com website so they can have more control over their customers. With S-OFF you or sunshine can directly write to the PG1FS partition to unlock the bootloader without the need to use the unlock code generated by htcdev.com

Sunshine need at least temp root to work. Achieve temp root, use sunshine to s-off and unlock, flash a custom recovery and then using your recovery you can root for good (permanent root).
I now understand that S-off is needed for roms, but I don't want roms.

Not really but that doesn't matter for now, you can read about what s-off really do later if you are interested. Flashing roms doesn't require s-off, its only requires and unlocked bootloader but yes since your phone is Verizon you need s-off if you want to flash a rom because its the only way to unlock the bootloader. On other variant of the M7, you can unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com so s-off is not needed to flash roms. I know its confusing...

Flash a custom recovery (TWRP) for Verizon HTC One and use it to perm root your phone.

Easiest way to root virgin XT1097 running 4.4.4

I have a brand spanking new XT1097 that I would like to root and then bootloader unlock using sunshine.
Unfortunately kingroot doesn't seem to work with 4.4.4 and the built in temproot for sunshine doesn't work either.
Should I do an OTA update to 5.0 and then try either kingroot or sunshine?
I don't want to do a permanent update just to find out that I can't root it.
Thanks!
Solved

Solved. It turns out kingroot eventually works. I ran the app a few times, it said it failed. Then I deleted the app data, ran it again and before it even ran was rooted. I was able to run sunshine and unlock the boot loader.
Off to install TWRP...

Unlock bootloader via htcdev, flash custom recovery, and flash SuperSU. That's it, your phone is rooted
