Recently updated to Marshmallow... I am unable to get in-flight texting to work on my phone. I connect to gogo and select the "free tmobile texting" icon, follow all the prompts, and after cycling the wifi off/on, it will not connect to wifi calling. I continually get the REG99 error. After the last flight, I went to a physical TMO store and they switched my sim cards and then called tech support. Their suggestion was to try it again on my next flight, but do the following steps: connect as normal, then "forget" the gogo network in wifi settings, reconnect gogo, cycle power...unfortunately that didn't fix the problem...I continually get the REG99 error and it will not connect to wifi calling which enables the free inflight texting...I had been using an S6 for a couple of months and it worked flawlessly inflight...without issues...I might add that wifi calling works perfectly fine at home and when using hotel wifi hotspots - never get the reg99 error.
The LG G4 has previously been stable, but the latest marshmallow update has ruined the inflight texting feature on this phone...As a side note, I noticed the same exact behavior using a Nexus 6 with marshmallow...it would display the same behavior as my LG G4 is doing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...BTW, I'm completely stock...interested in rooting the phone but haven't bothered yet...Thx, N
I can second you on this problem. REG99 happens quite often. I have gotten GOGO to give me free internet on 2 different flights, then it still didn't work, but I could use hangouts.
Anyone figure this out? I am on a flight with T-Mobile LG G4 running marshmallow and having the exact same issue. It used to work for me before ad well...

On my last flight to Europe (lot's of time to screw around) I found that : after registering with GOGO for the flight, reboot the phone and WIFI calling will connect.
So far it has worked every time.

I have been using Hotspot on my rooted N1 flawlessly for years. However I recently noticed something weird going on. When my Hotspot was not working in the past it was because of network issues in my area. However, now I am noticing that the network is fine and I can browse fine on my phone, but when connecting my laptop to my phone using Hotspot I can not browse at all. I've done speedtest on the phone using speedtest.net mobile app and get great speeds and able to browse on my phone fine. Also It's not my laptop as I am able to browse fine when connected to any other wifi network. Anyone else experiencing issues with Hotspot?
XDA is no longer worth my time.
Yea I think I got throttled for being in top 5% and then some weirdness was going on in my area where my connection kept getting clogged and ATT had to reset my phone but it still seems to be working.
I was on the phone with a T-Mobile rep yesterday in regards to the weak signal in my home. I never had issues with T-Mobile and signal strength, but it has gotten pretty bad around my home, where I usually am only able to get two bars of strength around my home, three when I am lucky.
I brought this all up w/ T-Mobile, they said there has been no service changes around my area, but the representative recommended that we use WiFi Calling in areas it is available.
I know this service is free, but I never bothered trying it, does it really work when dealing with poor signal strength? Does it impact battery life by any ways? Also, does it cause any sort of delay when calling people? And lastly, I'd imagine this includes texting via WiFi, correct?
If it is all as good as it sounds, I might go ahead with it, if not, I'll just ask T-Mobile about some sort of signal booster around my home.

Wifi calling can fix the poor range problem. You connect to Wifi and calls go through it instead of the GSM network. It works with texting. Just go ahead and try it. You don't have to pay any extra money for it. If you wanted a signal booster, I think you have to pay for it.

Let's say I use this option and walk out of WiFi signal, would my call automatically get disconnected? Also, does HD voice work on this?

Yes, if you walk out of range of wifi, your call will disconnect. Also, one thing to note is that it cannot be used on custom roms, however, with the release of this feature on this Nexus 6, we should see it on AOSP/CM in a few months. With google's project FI, this feature could be worked on by google and improve. As for HD voice, I'm pretty sure it works.
Actually, you CAN use Wi-Fi calling on custom ROMs, as long as the ROM developer didn't mess with it's functionality. (Granted, you most likely limited to ROMs that aren't drastically altered/customized, but at least they will be de-bloated...) I had an S4 with a custom ROM and I used Wi-Fi calling frequently--just have to check to make sure it's available.
I see people are still responding here - I have been using WiFi calling for about a couple of months now, it has been working perfectly fine. I had some random instances of dropped calls, I called T-Mobile and asked them about the issue, they told me it was related with my router, they went ahead and sent me a special router that is built for WiFi Calling (To be honest, I have no idea what the hardware capabilities on the router is, but it sure as hell beats the $20 Router I bought 5 years ago )
That being said, WiFi calling has been amazing for me, no more issues. Text messages are sent, calls are received, and everything works. It is a beauty of a function.
The only complaint I have is that sometimes if I hop in my car, drive away and am still on a call, the call will get disconnected (I now just avoid making calls while I am leaving my house). Another issue is that when I connect to any WiFi network, whether at a mall or a friends house, I sometimes do face issues as there may be some sort of hardware capabilities needed in order for the feature to work properly.

Wicked wakelocks and WiFi issues
Just yesterday I started having wicked WiFi issues, where both 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks would connect, then immediately disconnect, then connect again a few seconds later for it to just do the same thing, over and over. It keeps sending reports everytime it does it. I haven't factory reset though, but I'm going to have to.
Also, I keep getting insane wakelocks. Android OS is the worst, causing 7h+ of wakelocks in a 10h day. Google Play Services is pretty bad too, around 6h+ in that same 10h day.
Anyone else having major issues like this with their Note5? I have the N920W8 model, which I can't really find any info about anywhere
Im having similar wifi issues. Initially trying to connect to my 5ghz N home network (wpa2 psk) connect attempt, drop, connect attempt drop rinse and repeat. After a while it connects and stays connected, however, connecting to any web pages is painfully slow (like a super slow dns lookup), and i frequently get failed web page loading errors or failed to download apps from teh app store. Wifi calling is useless in this state. The same thing happens on an open hotspot network at work (2.4ghz) and the corporate (5ghz n) network. The note will ususally eventually drop wireless and force me back onto LTE. I looked at my data counter after just 3 days, and had used 27gigs of LTE, which is more data than I've used on tmobiles network since last year. Had some spotty wireless issues with teh note 4 rev 3 5.1.1 as well prior, but only had that phone for about 10 days before swapping for teh note 5. Prior to that I had the nexus 6 and no wireless issues on the same networks.

Luckily i have a dual dualband router, I set up the alternate AP 2.4ghz N wpa2 psk and the phone appears to be working fine at the moment on that network.
I ended up factory resetting and it appears working for now. A static IP address (DHCP reserved in the router) seemed to help.
Another issue I have though is when disconnecting from WiFi and connecting to mobile data, it seems to have DNS resolution issues until I turn data off and then back on. Not sure if it's the phone or the carrier (Wind Mobile) but it's pretty consistent

I'm just having dreadfully slow WiFi on my att model, but it doesn't drop connection
Dial *#0011# and click "wifi settings" from the menu at the top right corner. Turn off power saving mode and restart the phone, see if that does the trick.
If not, google search "note 3 wifi issues" and/or "note 4 wifi issues"and look for answers there. In all likelihood the problems that are being experienced with Wi-Fi on the note 5 are similar to the Wi-Fi issues that the predecessors experience when they launched.

It's Lollipop. It's a known bug in the software since Nov 2014 and Google hasn't addressed it. I too had issues with my WiFi when I first purchased it. But I found the work around. The bug is in the security software. The WpA2-PSK with TKIPS or AES which is a catch all, reeks havoc on our WiFi chips. It doesn't allow the phone to have proper DNS addresses resulting in severely slow internet or dropped connections.
Solution: Change your security standard to WPA/WPA2-PSK without AES or TKIPS.

I've got an Australian Samsung note 5 that has wifi problems. It started not working all of a sudden so i decided to go along with it but after a while i felt the need to try and make it work again. So i went into recovery mode and factory resetted (thinking that it would help) but then on the boot up after i came to the setup screen and found out that i was screwed. The samsung setup screen doesnt let you go past the setup screen without any wifi. Please help, i wanted to post a thread but im new to this community so i am restricted.

p.s wifi networks can be detected but only when the phone is held right next to the router.
I fixed same problem of wifi, its a setting in phone, but you need to root phone, its system setting in system folder.
Any updates on this? Im running one 920g completely stock and another 920g with hybrid n7 port v9. Both have this same issue.
I recently purchased a brand new XT1103 64gb N6 and was hopeful to make this my daily driver, but having nothing but issues with this phone ever since I've started using it...in fact, it has been so horrible I went back to the LG G4 that I was using before the N6...my issues:
#1. Wifi calling - I have gotten this feature to work at home, but it won't work if I put the phone in airplane mode and connect to a wifi network. For example, on Delta flights that have internet they offer free tmobile texting...by following the directions and prompts, it says that I'm connected, but when I try to send a text it tells me to enable cellular network. On my LG G4, if I do the same procedure, it enables the wifi calling feature and displays the wifi calling icon and I'm able to send/receive texts. On the N6, this feature does not work. I have yet to see any discussion on XDA about using the N6 to text inflight on Delta flights. In addition, I was recently in Paris and tried to enable a wifi call and it gave me the same error...."please enable cellular network to make a call"...when I take the phone out of airplane mode and enable wifi calling (when connected to the hotel wifi), it thinks for a period of time then will allow a wifi call, but only if the cellular network is enabled...never in airplane mode with just wifi enabled. Is there something that is wrong with the N6 in regards to wifi calling? On my LG G4, if I put my phone in airplane mode and turn on the wifi, it will enable wifi calling if I connect to a wireless network. Overseas it's imperative that I'm using a wifi call since TMO charges 20 cents/min on the cell network, but having to enable the cellular network forces me to initiate a call before I see that it's making a wifi call. #2. Signal quality and battery life - as noted in many posts, the signal is horrible and continually bounces around. I've followed several recommendations and have done the following when I received the phone - opened the box, flashed TMO 5.1.1 rom and rebooted with my TMO sim...phone did several updates, then updated to Marshmallow...signal was extremely weak anywhere I used the phone (I live in central Iowa and they only have HSPA+) TMO has not turned on LTE in my area of Iowa...I went to Chicago and experienced the same issues...fast battery drain and poor signal....I flashed Pure Nexus 6.0 and TMO 5.1.1 radio and experienced the same issues so instead of getting a headache messing with the phone, I just went to a local tmo store and got a new sim chip for my LG G4 and have been using it without issue for the last couple of days...It worked much better in Paris and maintained a better cell signal in Paris and I was able to make several wifi calls in airplane mode at the hotel there...
Can anyone share their thoughts and help me improve my experience with this phone? I really like the camera, screen, and feel of the N6, but I can't have a phone with poor signal, poor battery, and faulty wifi calling. Thanks in advance. Nick
wifi calling has never worked for me in airplane mode.. is it supposed to, i dont think so? and it sounds like you live in a small city or in the country? it sounds like it when youre talking about your signal. i live in nyc, and am on tmobile, and i am always connected to lte. my signal never changes, except on one spot on a highway near the ocean. other than that, my signal is perfect. anyways, you can flash and try different n6 radios. some work better for some and worse for others. and you dont need root to flash radios, but you do need to use fastboot.

I had the same issue using GoGo on the first flight.
At home, make a few calls when connected to WiFi. In settings/More, Switch from WiFi preferred to Cellular preferred, and go back to home (clicking ok as needed). Then, switch back to Wi-Fi preferred, (toggle the on/off slider at the top as well). Make a call again while connected to WiFi (make sure it shows WiFi calling).
Now, on your next flight, (in airplane mode, enable WiFi) connect to the gogo internet (use the initial splash page to select T-Mo texting/WiFi, captcha etc). Then, try texting - it should work. (it did for me)
I haven't tried WiFi calling from overseas, so can't comment - but I know I'd just use hangouts (or skype) to call.
I'll give that a try when I get home from my trip...I did try making a few wifi calls at home, but I didn't cycle the wifi calling feature...I will roll back the update to the stock TMO 5.1.1 and see how it works...
Quick question, is there a way to not install the 6.0 OTA from tmo? I'm guessing that I can just ignore it...N
Is anyone having signal issues with the axon pro? My phone keeps going in and out of signal, and while my status bar says that I have "no service" I will have full bars, but only when connected to WiFi. When not connected to WiFi, all the bars are lost.
Is anyone else experiencing these signal issues or bug of this sort? Just trying to determine the root of the problem.

I think it is a problem with the Wifi calling feature. After trying wifi calling and having problems (the other person couldn't hear me), I decided to turn it off.
After turning it off I started having crazy issues - the wifi calling would turn on even though I had turned it off. After turning off wifi completely, data wouldn't work so I rebooted the phone. After rebooting the phone, I couldn't get a signal at all. I tried rebooting the phone multiple times but the signal wouldn't come back. I switched SIMs and it still wouldn't work. At this point I was thinking there was a hardware problem with the phone so I was considering calling ZTE to get a new one. But I tried one last thing - I turned wifi back on and made a wifi call - the signal came back! So it is a software problem.
So I turned on wifi calling again but configured for "cellular preferred". It seemed to work well for a while, but then a few days later went crazy notifying me every few seconds that wifi calling was turning on/turning off.
To keep the phone stable I have now unfortunately had to setup the phone with "Wifi Calling Preferred". Thankfully soon after I did this I started getting error "REG09: Missing 911 address" so it doesn't try to use wifi calling anymore.
No point calling ZTE support because their phone support is appallingly bad. They won't understand the issue, they won't give me a ticket number. All they will say is either "reset the phone" or try to send me a new phone which will just make me lose time and lose data. They had a website where you could raise tickets for a little while...but it looks like it has been blocked now as it could have been too useful .

Trying posting to their Twitter account and report the issue, that is how i got their attention. Also when you call them (here in the USA) tell them that you have already done a reset on your phone and that did not resolve the issue!!!

I got some signal issues too I only get 2 to 3 tower usually but at time its completely dead and until I reboot my phone signal doesn't Pop up ...and at times even though I have like 2 signal tower it shows emergency calls oly...I don't use WiFi calling as am on straight talk.but the WiFi calling feature suddenly pops up in the notification bar giving an error message u can't swipe that off the notification bar too u gotta go to MORE in settings and switch on and switch off the WiFi calling feature to remove the error msg from the notification bar .
Signal keeps fluctuating call clarity is a lil bit poor comparing it to my old lg g2 . macro focus doesn't work at all u can't focus a thing that's really close in auto. I dono what to do with this phone.it just doesn't satisfy the basic need of a phone voice calls and message(messages take a long time to send ).

Again, not worth my breath. If you check the new thread someone called up ZTE about the issue and they blamed it on T-Mobile (which is complete and utter BS). When I called about the camera issues they tried to blame it on Google. Why waste my time to be told lies? The support is completely s***.

Well hopefully ZTE will come out with a fix really soon, I don't think that they want to lose the users they have.......
Loss of at&t signal
In one location that I frequent I always sit there without a cellular signal while people around me are using their cell phones
LTE signal strength sporadic
My Pro shows a few bars for a couple seconds,then NO SIGNAL for a few seconds. ZTE is not fixing this problem? It has been going on since January. Now is September.
For those with this issue, does a factory reset change this behavior, or at least the frequency of it?
