Hi, i have a c5j6 tablet and i bought an OTG cable with a LAN port.
When running windows the ETH port is recognized and working but on Android it is not.
I tried it on both stock rom and mirek190 5.0 V7.
Does anyone know how to get it to work on Android?

A few updates:
Connecting the OTG cable, i can see eth0 interface added as down.
After running netcfg eth0 dhcp, the interface is up and has ip address.
However, no Internet access.
I tried to configure the dns using: setprop net.eth0.dns1 8.8.8.8
That didn't work.
What else can i do?
Also how can i get this configuration to run automatically when connecting the OTG cable?

Will we be able to use USB Tethering with our Milestones, or is our locked Bootloader gonna say NO once again?
Native Usb tethering works fine on Milestone since September (CM 7.1.0-RC15), thanks to mot_usb kernel module by Skrilax_CZ.
So I just conect Milestone to my Mac with the USB Cable and i am ready to go? Should I use an Application? Until today I've been using Wireless Tether app.
Thanks for clearing this up Pavel.
Just plug the cable in and enable tethering in settings (Wireless & Networks -> Tethering) and it should work out of the box. At least on my ubuntu laptops, dont know about mac.
Will the Linux Version work with ARM?
Since the Linux version needs to be compiled (i.e. running " ./configure " and " make " ) for each machine that its run on. Wouldn't that mean that it would work fine on an ARM machine, since it is configured for the individual machine its running on? Or am I misunderstanding something here?
Thank you for any info you can give, and God Bless!!

I want the same app or way but for Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora Particularly ^_^).
for linux you can set up hostapd + dhcp3-server
- From PC: using the usb wiless and a software as the same Connectify/TPLink (goto connectify.me) to share internet
- From laptop (include wifi card): using shared ahoc wifi (your phone must be rooted) or install Connectify software to share internet
Hi,
Has anyone succeeded in getting USB tethering to work with Ubuntu? I have :
Ubuntu 11.10
Samsung Galaxy S 2.3.5, kernel speedmod k16-11
USB tethering works a treat under windows, once I install the samsung drivers, but I can't get usb0 to appear when I type "ifconfig". "lsusb" does however list the samsung phone.
Any ideas, other than using easy tether ?
Thanks
Hi mmlbbntr,
I have got Ubuntu 11.10 on MacBookPro. I had problems to connect to School WLAN, so I do USB Tethering and it was successful.
But I use Teamhacksung ICS on my SGS ;-)
// Don't forget to Thanks
Have You tried
ifconfig -a
?
It should list Your usb0 ethernet.
If it is right there You should try
ifconfig usb0 up
and
dhcpcd usb0
If there is no usb0, maybe
ifconfig usb0 plumb
will help.
There is a bug with gingerbread where USB tethering is broken on linux. It worked well on Froyo and it also works well on CM9
there is a workarround however, but it is much less clean

Yeah ifconfig doesn't list any usb connection. I'll try "ifconfig -a" though, not sure what the difference is. If that fails I'll try "ifconfig usb0 plumb", no idea what that does either, but worth a shot.
Thanks for the tips, I'll keep you posted tonight.

Oh wow, I hadn't seen your post. Thanks for the info. Guess all I can do is wait for a stable release of CM9 and upgrade...

I'm using Arch with ICS on galaxy S, so I didn't know about this bug.
ifconfig -a lists every lan devices, not only UP state.
plumb as far as i remember works only on solaris, so You sould not need this command, sorry for making mess.

No mention anywhere of 2.3.6. I wonder if USB tethering bug is fixed. Has anyone tried?
I'd rather not install ICS until a stable release is out TBH...
I have usb ethernet card and I want to connect to lan without dhcp. Terminal commands return permission denied while trying to change ip however show this card as eth0 with some random ip.
If not possible, could You recommend me any rooted kernel that supports charging while using OTG?
*MASK NOT MAC, sorry
Hi ! I don't know why but I want to connect my Pixel 4a 5G Yesterday on my mac and today on Pc the pixel is not recognized.
I have uncheck usb debuging and check it again but not working.
My Pixel are on last Android 12 and root with magisk. it is possible that a mode can create a problem with the OTG ?
I have test on Safe mod doesn't work too
I have connect an usb type c usb key it recognize.
I have test connect on plateform tools and on terminal ./adb devices, have message on pixel to allow my computer and it recognize but not Android File transfert ?
I think stay the new update and see if I can update it !?
I don't understand why ?
Thanks
Hi ! I post again because when I connect usb key mtp works and if I connect to my mac and go to settings usb parameters and choose transfert files/Android auto that work but never had notification pop-up for choose it
USB is a master/slave protocol. When you plug in an otg cable, your phone's USB controller switches into host mode. Your computer's USB is always in host mode. So your effectively trying to get two master devices to communicate which USB does not support.
