As per the title says, just so happen to check the Lenovo forums today after reading here they released TPT source yesterday and sure enough the K1 source was released this morning!

Hopefully our humble and dedicated developers can tear this apart and start on some custom ROMS, maybe even kernels?? (I have high hopes clearly!)
On a side note, might not be worth mentioning, but I did notice that the source for the K1 was roughly 72mb in size while the TPT source was in upwards of 202mb?? Same compression for both, food for thought...

Great news ....the building blocks have arrived

Bad choice, hardly any support and current android 3.2.1 on it is buggy for the two that we own, stutters a lot.
Be Prepared for this lengthy response!

I agree even with the latest update, there are still bugs in the OS Lenovo loads on this tablet but this should not be a driving force with not buying one. Every tablet I've owned (K1 and the GTablet) or had the chance to tinker with (Xoom, Prime, etc...) have had their flaws, but I also feel this is also based on the user and their personal preferences with using their tablet. Not to mention, what that user would be using the device for (as a toy, or daily driver) has a huge amount to do with it.
What's important here is that they are all running on some form of an Android OS, and if you are willing to tinker and sometimes even experiment with your tablet, you will be able to get to some middle ground (depending on the device, its release date, the community following it has, and when/if the source code is released) based on what you are trying to get out of that particular device to where there are little to no issues.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-alpha-ideapad-k1-cwm-stock-rooted-rom-120109-build/
For me, I'm currently running the Alpha 3 CWM rom from rootzwiki (link above) and besides I think 1-2 FC's (ONLY happened upon uninstalling pre-loaded apps) it's ran smooth as silk! Granted, I use my K1 as mainly a 'toy' for experimenting with Android SDK, flashing ROM's and general tinkering but still...
Now, you could just drop the $400-$600 on an iPad and not have to worry about FC's and other bugs but then you're left with not only an extremely restricted device but a restricted device that you paid way more for when compared to the K1 for example. Don't get me wrong, after getting my first tablet (GTablet) I quickly realized the quality of the products Apple releases to the consumer public, and if you are a member of that 90%+ percentile of the public that just wants a device to work and doesn't plan on doing anything else to it (and possibly not being as computer savvy as that 5-10% percentile) Apple is the way to go. However atleast from my experiences with the iPad/iPhone, if you plan on doing any modifications remotely resembling base mod's that can be done on an Android device, you're either threatening your warranty or simply SOL.
In short, when I buy an Android phone/tablet I will never expect it to run flawlessly out of the box because A. I'm personally anal/picky/OCD with my hardware and B. I bought it for that initial time investment in order to have a device strictly tuned to my lifestyle and means of use. For this reason alone, an Apple product will never satisfy me (again nothing against anyone who does use Apple, just my 0.02).
I'd rather have a device that is cheaper to buy with arguably the same hardware specs or comparable and is finicky (to say the least at times), but has the potential to run whatever I can throw at it smoothly and most importantly to personalize it on levels that Apple would never allow on their products simply for fear of creating instabilities.
For the K1 however, Lenovo releasing the source is the 1st step towards achieving your own perfectly tuned and personalized device however long it might take. Afterall, one crucial characteristic of an Android user that majority of the members on this forum share is patience! It's what separates us from the rest!
Sorry for the long post, I just felt like expressing my opinion and I was in the typing mood.

Dueces99 I shall check out that rom, will see if its possible for me since I am on the latest official version....
I did have a Blackberry Playbook with the original OS in December and that was much better for web browsing etc. Just hoping that Android 4 will have less issues on the tablet since I will be keeping the Lenovo....
Oh and I have been with Android for over 2 years since Android 1.5 and about 5 android phones..... So yeh I am patient
Will definitely pay attention to the next iteration of Windows Mobile though when I upgrade at the end of the year since I like the responsiveness of Windows Mobile 7/7.5.....
this is great news.. really think of selling mine for 300 or so.... if it still worth that ( 32 gb model) .. i might hold on to it now that the source is release and ( cross fingers) someone ports CM9 to it...
we can only wish...

Apologies for the radio silence on this... we have been in discussion with our product teams and shared all the interest and feedback received here.
I believe the current outlook is that a plain version (sounds like it will not include the Lenovo customizations ) of ICS will be made available for download sometime in June. This is a bit later than the original May schedule and will not be pushed as an OTA (over the air update).
I appreciate everyone's patience - I know you have been waiting a while for an update on this.
Thanks
Mark
I had posted earlier about no Remix 3.0 for the Mini. Am I missing something here the Mini is only a matter of maybe a few months old and they have stopped supporting it already? This seems to me like a very poor way of doing business. Could you imagine if Microsoft announced that they where going to stop supporting Windows 10 after only six months? I tried to warn them about Allwinner during the Kickstarter everything I have tried from them has been junk plan and simple. Allwinner also has terrible support. But I expected more from Jide. I also have inquired with Jide if they intend to offer a discount on the new Rockchip Mini for the Kickstarter supporters where they have pulled support after it just being released. I like Remix OS but I am now skeptical about purchasing anything more from them after this.
You are not the only one. I paid $50 for a box that is inferior(besides the flash quality) to a $36 box that is apparently supported by them, and now I see on top of the box being inferior, support will be dropped for it too.
Pretty stupid.
Also the idea that you have to hardware mod to get root? No.
I understand frustration. But I use my Remix Mini every day (I Heart Radio, Tune In Radio) and occasionally Kodi, Netflix, various TV network apps, etc. Does all I ask of it and more. For less than $50. Would it be nice to have Marshmallow, or 4k video, of faster processor? Sure, but none seem to improve what I use it for.

I see it okay for what I use it for even though after a couple of hours of use it gets REALLY hot and SLOW, to the point where I have to restart my Mini.
I would hope that updates would help it just run smoother so the lack of support sucks and causes me to look at other alternatives. Lesson learned on a 50$ experiment.

yeah but that lesson learned netted them over 1.5 Million and now they are just dropping it and expecting people to by a new model when the old one is only 8 months, never mind that they falsely advertised the 4K and can't even reproduce the digital audio AC3 out without glitches...
I thought of that but there is not much I can do at this point. I have been thinking of just installing the RemixOS to a i5 NUC of some sort.

...i have RemixOS(4PC) running on part of my (Lenovo YogaPro3 ---12GB RAM + 512SSD)...& it is ridiculous-fast!!! i love it..

....2 the original poster: "+1 right here with ya! ...i'm a kickstarter supporter and however i use my Mini on the daily in the living room.. I use the tablet a couple times a week for small tablet-tasks. When i found out the loss of support---- i was a bit peeved but i still enjoy what i have of theirs and i'm still going to end up purchasing the new one and probably still enjoy the O.G. Mini... OR... i may just hack it to pieces with a new OS."
Unfortunately I have 3 of the Mini's and while keeping one may be okay I definately don't need the other 2 but I could not in good conscious sell the others to to somebody unless they new the remix before hand...
To anybody interested in the other 2 I would sell them for $20$us each plus exact shipping. Barely even used except to make sure that all 3 worked when I got them and give them their recent updates. For $30US each I will throw in one of those mini keyboards with the Touch mouse and backlite for each one
@thirdlobe
no point at the mo (no audio over HDMI) jide won't fix it coz its not their problem . so you might have to wait for MM release of remix to see if that's been fixed .

Hey wastate2014,
Really sorry to hear the disappointment evident from your post. The Remix Mini won't be getting Remix OS based on 6.0 anytime soon due to the Allwinner chip not supporting Marshmallow. This I've probably mentioned to you before.
Supporting Remix Mini is still something we're actively working on. There will be a test version going out to testers within a couple days and after it goes through testing, it'll be released as a public OTA update for all Mini users. If all goes well, I'd say testing will take around a week. Thus, we do continue to support Remix Mini, though we do have our resource challenges as a startup.
As for everything you've tried from us being junk, please let me know exactly what it is that's been bad and I'll do my best to make sure it's fixed as long as it's within my power to. Can you pass on a private email through PM here and I'll contact you about your issues.
Lastly, we will work harder to make sure our earliest backers, esp on Kickstarter, know we're listening and we value you. I'm sorry to anyone who has felt let down by us in any way.
Jason

Email address PMed. Thanks for the response.
Sooooo, not sure what the update did, but there is a new update if you opt in to receiving the testing releases. Still no root like you get by default in MM, which the Mini won't get.
I'm really not sure how this happens, but I'm done. There's no "rectify"-ing this beyond taking returns and providing refunds I don't think. And I would not expect that, of course.
So, I'm done. Anybody want mine, PM me. It's mint, and updated to the latest FW.

mine has been sat in a drawer for the last 2 months hugely disappointed with jide "rooting your mini will void your warranty" poor excuse. this device should have come pre-rooted simular to the way cm roms are. the people on xda are by nature tinkers and you jide actively dennying root access does not endear you. (a half pre rooted rom is still not good enough).
for most people the "P" in pc means personnal as in yours to do with or customize as YOU see fit, however in the case of the remix mini i think it means "pwned" by jide.
i had massive hopes for this device and remix but sadly have moved on.

It's somewhere around the update window. 3 dots to click that give you settings to accept testing releases. I don't really see any point, unless they will offer root on the testing releases, maybe.
And still, I won't be bothering.
Nope.. not upset
I have bought many android devices... (meson/s802h/a31s/805/3188/3288/H8 ) some cheap.. some expensive
Expensive doenst mean good.. in many cases.. (and more cores doesnt mean faster computing)
-Most android tv boxes have no support what-So-ever, But with some support from XDA\freaktab\Libre-elec... most of them got to be quite good
The Remix Mini is just a average android device.. (hardware wise) But with good support and a great User Interface
The have earnt my respect.. ( with Remix Mini support / releasing 32bit for older pc hardware...giving a new spark to android x86 project )
Here is how to be a tester: http://support.jide.com/hc/en-us/articles/218012497-How-to-be-a-tester-

don't forget to report issues using the feedback app
For all the developers on this board, what if you had...
a higher powered Mini
AOSP, let's say Marshmallow or better
all the dev tools you'd need to get to work
...what would you, could you dream to develop this computer to do?
TV box? Gaming console? Android PC? Smart home device?
Please share with us your brainstorm ideas on this. Have fun with it and don't think about what's already out on the market... think out of the box, reach for the stars, and all the other cliches you can think of. Please share in the comments below.
Thanks!
For me, I'd love to see a higher powered version of the Mini. It's the right form factor for kiosk deployment. I'm exploring development of a kiosk/presentation system that's Android based, and will probably center its development around a device like the Mini.
Of course, I could see something like the Mini with a more stable version of Remix giving Chromebooks a run for the money in a classroom setting. Use it in the class, unplug it, take it home, plug it into your TV and do your homework. With much, much less overhead and replacement costs than are associated with broken Chromebooks in schools. (No glass to break or hinges to abuse.)
I am not a developer but a power user (business oriented) using a mixture of computers at the office those mac's and linux pc.'s.
Then I have purchased two remix minis for my office to test and see if they could replace desktop computers. As Radon_22 said cleverly, my idea was to achieve "mobile computing!" without carrying heavy laptops by the help of home tv's. So remix mini was the good device, remix os was the brilliant but with a limited memory it couldn't replace the computer.
We business users will like to see more RAM options (4GB min.) to replace pc's.
Please give us more RAM to help the businesses all around the world to simplify IT infrastructure.
Thanks to Jide people those made great idea came true.
I'd be in for a Remix Mini with Shield like internals and horsepower along with either the ability to put apps to the sd card or 64+gb of internal memory or both. With the changes to Android M and especially N, 16gb of internal memory is no longer enough.
As a web devoloper i have everything but a web browser with devtools enabled. If there would be a special developer version of browser (chromium preferably) i will be the most happy Remix Mini user!
Get Phoenix OS as it has way better support on the PC side and the TEAM doesn't take your money and say thanx now **** OFF. Remix is simply just stealing money from its users or/and clients. REMIX ALSO lost its key employee so don't expect them help since they don't give a **** about anyone or anything. Remix is a GREEDY COMPANY. Has no one noticed they almost stopped with furthering there updates and just start this kick starter bull****, take the money and then say we no longer support that or this. THERE RIPPING EVERYONE OFF. DO NOT WAIST A DIME ON THESE SELFISH ASSHOLES!!
First.. this is the "remix mini" section.. its not possible to install Phoenix Os on the mini
Two.. How are you? to tell us.. what to install on our PC's (let users decide for them self)
three.. you like remix os or you don't / both Pc Os's have there flaws
four.. last week I got update 2.0.807 So.. support is not dead yet (on remix mini a device from 2015)
five.. its my money...I worked hard for it...and if I like to support jide...I will
six..everyone got ripped off?? are you high?? dumbass ( where is the proof)
Cheers...
@Sentario
Jide has taken too many projects on their backs and now some of them suffer delays due to lack of resources.
They do Remix Mini, Remix OS for PC, Remix Ultratablet, Remix Pro, Remix Player, Remix OS itself and last year they had to shift focus into Remix IO to provide a good product.
I wouldn't expect much of Jide until they start shopping the IO.
I'm also dissapointed with this situation, but I understand it.
I don't understand why you say they steal money. They simply don't.
Remix Mini Android support is dead because the SoC chip manufacturer Allwinner pulled the plug on it.
Anyway, how could you expect much from a market experiment device that cost you 30-40$.
Manage your expectations, show some reasoning and then criticize.
Using false accusations and cursing is a low method of reaching your goals.
Hmm... today I watched.. ETA prime's YouTube vid... about Pine Phone
It has 4 opensource operating systems... ( currently in beta? )
But most interesting is the fact, is that specs are about the same as the Remix Mini
That's makes me think... could we get these OS to run on the Remix mini?
Are there people like me? ... still interested in a Remix mini (possible upgrade pad)
Mine box is still running 24\7... but android 5.1 is getting old
-Normale things...like buying stuff online is getting harder as its a no longer supported platform version
Thoughts? opinions?

I am so interested in this, but I am not a dev and have no idea what goes into doing this type of work.
I've had my Remix for a for a few years now and just want to update because of the no longer supported platform issue.
Unfortunately I would be the wrong person the ask for help with this...
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is a great idea! I have so many things is like to use my remix mini for, but the system is pretty old. I can't even root mine ...
Sometimes I think about trying to learn to develop custom ROMs... I wish I wasn't so lazy.

I'm kind of curious, what do you guys use this device for nowadays?
