Not enough space? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is it normal that the system partition "Internal storage" is only 1,26 GB and the "USB storage" 5.77GB on the I9000? I installed CM11 but can't install enough Apps, because the system partition is so small. Is there a reason for that, is this a bug or is it normal?
Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong..and i mite be but are you sure the 1.26 ur seeing is not ur ram?..and I may be way off on this but I don't think you should be seeing USB anything unless u have a thumb drive mounted...

bUT if ur internal memory is showing as USB no something not right..ur phone has at least 16 gigs of internal memory total right?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

The i9000 i've got only has 8GB internal memory. And this is divided in 1,26GB internal storage and 5.77 USB storage. I don't know why CM11 says "USB Storage".
But the problem is with only 1.26 internal memory, you can't put all the apps / games on it that I'd like. Instead i have more than i need "USB storage".

yeah that is kind of dumb....sounds like ur only choice at this point is link2sd... or something similar. not Sure if you're familiar with it or have used it before..bUT I've owned a lot of low end phones and link2sd is a life saver...can move all of the apk. or just parts of the apk to sd...u will nead at least a half gig partition on ur sd card..my last phone had I think 2 gig internal storage and I had over 100 installed apps with room to spare

Partitions for Note should look like this ( more or less ):
System: ~1.97GB
Internal Storage: ~11.07GB
Your whole user-space should be around 12-13GB. The rest is used for partition formatting etc.
There must be something wrong I will show u a pics

Now those pics with sd card 4gb it shows ehn I go to settings then storage USB storage is 11.7 1.32gb available space and sd card 4gb but when I look into disk usege or disk view it just shows 10gb the size of my USB storage and here's more pics with the sd mounted
Is this normal?

It shows 11.07GB as USB Storage. The SD Card is listed separately below.
System partition is not listed there, there is additional 2GB partition apart from what is displayed on the 3rd screen you provided, since you're on stock rom - you won't see it listed - but it's there, taking up the space. It's where Android stores apps that are installed to default location and other stuff.
Everything seems ok.

Question about move app to sd card

I recently received an error message stating that there is an error to install the app in the default location.
Apparently the "Device memory" is used up - available 224 MB.
When I try to "move app to sd" card, it showed I dont have a SD card. Is it possible to move app to the "USB storage"?

You must have an SD card. Maybe search the Play Store for an "Apps to SD" app and see if that helps. I have all my larger apps moved onto SD.
I hope this helps. Please hit THANKS if it did.

Thanks for your reply. However, what I wanted was moving app to usb storage(the internal storage rather than a sd card), is it possible?

Hi, I think USB (micro SD?) storage is external storage? I dont think this can be done on the Note, unless you locate the Apps using a File Manager and manually move them. Personally I think this could be problematic and could make apps load slowly. Personal opinion.

Remember, if you are using a micro SD then, technically, you have 2 "SD Cards", one internal one external. Moving apps to SD does not move them onto the micro SD card (external storage) it moves them into the internal SD (separate partition) thus freeing up the internal memory.
I hope this makes sense.

[Q] Is it possible to repartition internal memory to be like GSIII or GNII?

It seems like 2GB of device memory is not enough for me to install apps but I have of available space in USB storage. Is there any possible way to repartition internal memory in my GN to have the same layout with GSIII that internal storage can store whatever apps or other files.
Sorry for my bad English.
go through this

Can I merge device memory and USB storage to one partition like in GSIII?
As above?!

Internal Memory used while app is installed on SD Card?

Alright so I install my apps to my SD Card, including most of the ones that are supposed to be on the Internal Storage. But whenever I install the apps to my SD Card, it still takes up internal storage. Is there a way to fix this or clear this? I cleared the cache with App2SD, but there's still a lot of memory being used on internal storage. Can anyone help?
-dbearstrong.
Apps always leave dalvik-cache and their data on internal memory.
The workaround for this is partitioning your sd card and using an app or script to move apps to the partition.
Look in the recopilation and stickies for solving internal memory problems.

The app itself may be on the SD, but it's data and dalvik cache is on internal memory

yaa i have heard that even if we use script or app for moving apps to sd card by making partition , than also for every 500mb of sd card we need around 100mb of internal phone memory..

It depends from app to app. some app are coded that way that they cannot be moved from phone to usb like banking app and few other apps. some games are automatically downloaded to your usb memory and some apps can be moved as well.
please specify which app you are not able to move and i'll check that.
did you find any solution? because I am unable to move too. the button says move to usb storage. but usb storage is not there.

What do you mean usb storage is not there? What exactly are you trying to do?

Sorry sorry it says move to sd card. But there's no sd card inserted. There should be a dedicated button to move to the 16 gb storage.
The 16gb in built storage is referred to as sd card.

That's the problem. I cannot use this option. It says unable to move app. Not enough storage space.

So are you saying when first installing the app it's saying no storage space or when you're transferring it to sd card there's not enough space? Two different things.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
when I want to transfer the app then it says no space. I have 8 gb free in storage and around 1 gb internal memory free
What rom are you on? If on jb, try transferring the app to sd using application manager, see if that works. If it still complains it's because you have residual odex files left over from previous uninstall or other expired data files and there are threads on how to remove them.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have stock jb rom 4.1.2
I am trying using application manager, the app2sd also diverts to the default app manager.
In the application manager, what's the status of the move to sd card button? Is it greyed out or click able? If is greyed out, you will need to use root and TB to move then to sd card.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
it's clickable, I can click it but it gives error
I am having the same problem.
I did a fresh factory reset (STOCK JB 4.1.2) and format USB Storage because my Note was becoming unreasonably slow. Needless to say, it's lightning fast now, but as I begin installing apps and internal memory starts decreasing, I want to move apps to the internal SD card (USB Storage) which currently has 11gb free. When trying to move I get "Unable to move app. Not enough storage space". How is this possible?
I do NOT want to use an external SD Card, as the phone starts getting slow whenever anything is downloading to it. Even when updating apps it starts getting stupidly slow to do ANYTHING! Rooting is also NOT an option.
I'm incluing some images to give a better perspective.
