im pretty confuse of these two terms here, semi and hard bricks. for what i know semi brick is when you see the phone--->pc thingy on your phone after a flash failure. and can be resolve by a JIG or tricks to get into download mode.
but what about HARD BRICKS?? can they be resolve with a JIG or tricks? what are the symptoms of hard brick phones? is there anyone from the forum that could not enter download mode with the use of JIG or tricks?
pls answer the following. it will help me with my phone before flashing.
Hard brick is just like soft brick, but you cant go download or recovery menu, and you have to send it to shop where you bought it.

You cant use JIG if your phone is hard bricked.
And, well your phone bricks if you flash wrong file with odin (sometimes) or wrong .zip
IN XDA/SGS 1 bricked means phone wont boot may be described as soft brick as its probably recoverable . Only one culprit in a soft bricked phone the user has not bothered to read/follow instructions .
Recovery is usually via download mode /jig and flash a stock rom .
Hardbricked dead never ever recover nothing the user can do combination of above or blown hardware .

I guess the guy recently on the Q&A forum had who did a fatal mistake on flashing (see attachment).
Semi bricks seem to happen far more often but from what I read here it doesn't really matter much on the SGS. I'm way no expert but it sounds you gotta mess up big time to hard brick it or be extremely unlucky when flashing boot loaders or something (correct me if I'm wrong).
Hard bricked phones have to be sent in for repair afaik. There are also some guys trying to figure out a different kind of cable to get into some more advanced service mode or so for hard bricks (?).
Anyways, what to do when you semi brick? Usually go to download or recovery mode and flash again.
My very first flash was about enabling these modes (my SGS came without them) so I had neither mode and semi bricked (better use direct USB). Luckily, thanks to all the info on XDA I knew I'd be screwed if things go wrong so I bought myself a JIG dongle off Ebay prior and thus could plug it in, get into download mode and re-flash, all fixed.

HE IS MESSED up. i wonder what happened his phone?
Hi guys!
You are the only one that could help me....
A friend of mine has a G Note N7000 (white) and he wants to selll it...but....
He said that is bricked (not starting) after he tried to downgrade it from ICS to Android 2 Gingerbread....
is this gone for ever? it can be unbricked?
thank you!
please help me....i want this phone.....
Well there is alot of info about bricked notes so I advice you to do some xda searching as there are several ways to revive a bricked note. Use the search function and you'll find what you need. I would advice you to check Dr.Ketan's signature for some helpfull links. Ask your friend if he did a FULL WIPE when reverting from ICS to GB,that could be the 'source' of the brick.
So, we cause a triple murder before breakfast, start a race war before dinner - that's uh, that's a pretty good day.
my friend told me that when he tried to downgrade it, the bootloader was broken....

is the download mode on the phone accessible
is the pc recognizing the phone when connected thru odin
he said that the phone is not switching on after full wipe....

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Android user for 1 year, i soft bricked my phone sereval time when I wasn't really experimented. I hard-bricked my phone once and it didn't charge or enter the Download Mode and it didn't charge. I don't even know how that happened even today, i think i flashed a wrong ROM with odin. I took it to my carrier shop and they replaced it for free since I didn't tell them i ever flashed it or something. The paper that they gave me said that the Motherboard was broken.
Now.. How could that happen? How can i avoid that? I am currently on a custom ROM (CyanogenMod 7).

Hello,
I was trying to root my phone, the root did work, but then i wanted to flash a custom recovery and then I bricked my phone. It didnt do anything anymore. I brought it to a phone repair service, they put in a new motherboard and now it boots up, but after a minute it reboots and that happens all the time. So anyone knows how to fix this problem??
I have the d405n btw
I would really appreciate that!
My english isnt that good sorry : $
i bricked my phone and i cant do anything i am using samsung galaxy s6 and when phone turns on just samsung logo appears but stays there forever
and i cant go to the recovery mode it is like deleted. Tried to re-root phone thought it could help. Guess not... anyways i need help just got that phone...
I have the exact same issue. Xposed bricked my phone (S7 Edge, SM G935F). My own fault, but I need to fix it asap. Getting phone back tomorrow in factory reset state. My only back-up is TWRP. I managed to create that back-up while the phone was already in bootloop status. Question is if I root again and restore the back-up I created, won't the Xposed being part of that back-up file simply brick my phone again. I can't figure out how to remove xposed from my TWRP back-up so it doesn't cause issues.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am paying $50 to have the phone fix and if I mess it up, it will be another issue.
Nougat or Marshmallow ?
Which firmware, model numbers? Have you tried flashing your preferred firmware via Odin in PC or Mac? List what you've done for us...

You need to put the phone on download mode and refresh the entire firmware. I think Samsung do it via ODIN still.. but not sure.
