Hello Guys,....I am looking for a modified stock mmb29v kernel for root. "NOT SYSTEMLESS ROOT." It is for my wife's N6. She really likes the Layers Manager and Themes. But doesn't want to compromise the Google Stock Experience.
I have a Nexus 6P,....I rooted and used a modified stock kernel for root on my Nexus 6P. "NOT SYSTEMLESS ROOT." Layers Manager works great on the stock experience.
So,...if anyone has a link. Thank you so much.
That's like an oxymoron....."modified" "stock" kernel.........usually it's either "stock" or it isn't.
Here we go.

just reading up...I was updating to the latest stock images from google and had the same concerns with regards to using layers and xposed. I used to use the gerard kernel, except the developer cited that he was only building kernels for systemless.
As the OP posted the initial question, then posted the reference link, it was a bit baffling, as I've never seen anyone flash a kernel for another device on to their current (in this case, OP says he found a 6P kernel for his wife's 6)

No. I want a kernel that has the same features as the link I posted. The one posted is for Nexus 6P. I AM LOOKING FOR ONE FOR THE NEXUS 6 (SHAMU).

ok, that makes more sense. I'm actually looking for the same thing, a stock-like kernel that will allow for a /system root install. I use to use a gerard kernel, but as of the latest version, the developer only supports systemless, which doesn't work for me as it keeps throwing an NFC error on first boot after installing the xposed framework...
looks to be promising...developer did comment today that he'll be considering creating a system and systemless kernel version again.

Are you selling something?
Anyone confirm this is working on Nexus S 4G (or Nexus S)?
It works flawlessly on my nexus s (9020T)
Not compatible?
Interestingly, the Play Store returns "no results found" when attempting to get AniBoot on my 'phone, and trying through a computer (via the supplied URL) I'm given this pearl of wisdom when I try to install: "This item is not compatible with your device."
Tried with two I9023s, one running CM9 and the other JellyBelly.
Any thoughts/hints/ideas?

For everyone running jellybean and such, It won't work due to permission errors that won't stick with su. (I'm having the worst luck with chmoding the system right now, don't ask me why it's not working cause i have no freaking clue.) But it will work for cm9 and below.
I don't remember if i actually took it off of the phone because a lot of gave the app bad reviews on that single device. That is why it doesn't say that. Is it confirmed that it was working previous to the change? If so, i'll put it back up.

Thanks for the update. The flavour of CM9 I'm running (for the next few days, until I upgrade that 'phone to JellyBelly too) is a Kang concoction, which I suspect contains more JB than ICS (the Android version shows 4.0.4, but clicking on it to get the "Easter Egg" reveals the JB screen).

I can't confirm or dispute that, as this is the first time I've come looking for it. Prior to now, I've just been manually pushing boot animations (both self-created and downloaded from various sites including XDA) with ADB.

This is not my work.
This Rom is ported by spegelius. I've found this here: http://forum.slimroms.net/topic/100-galaxy-s4-active/
Everything seems to be ok.
Bugs:
720p video recording produces crap video(but 1080p works fine)
HDR
Download:
-Rom
-Gapps
Screenshots:
I am sorry I posted in General but i couldn't post in Development.
Thanks for making this more public, this way more people will get the chance to try it
Just one important hint, @spegelius didn't port it, he compiled that beast from Source, which is an important fact
I can confirm that this is a good, daily driver for sure!
Greetings
Thomas

Oh hey, thanks for putting this up . I never got around to it, didn't seem that too many users were interested about it. But good to hear it works for people. And about the build, i used LeJay's kernel sources etc to make it happen.
Happy to know about this! Already dowwloaded it but I need my phone working this weekend and I can't risk to have any kind of problem, I will surelly try it as soon as I get home next week.
Thanks a lot! Hope more people start working on I9295, my son's Moto G just got the OTA 4.4 update, lucky him!

What Android version is this based on? 4.2, by any chance? I was foolishly hoping that it could work with Safestrap for us suckers without the international variant.

It's 4.3.1. For non-international S4 Active, there would need to be proper kernel at least...

Install the rom? Flash it with CWM. Install the kernel? Well i don't know about other devices than Intl S4 Active, but inst it like, even if there was such kernel, it can't be flashed due to locked bootloader?

This looks good. Has anyone (besides spegelius) flashed it? I'm reasonably satisfied with my rooted 4.2.2 stock ROM and really want to move to 4.4. On my SIII I already had KitKat and now I have to settle with 4.2
Cheers
I installed this ROM but google play acts strange. It doesn't reinstall all my packages and still refuses to install for instance swype. I chose for the aroma gapps but will do a new wipe and try another gapps
Cheers
Must have been the gapps. Up and running now and reinstalling apps. Looks good
Cheers
I have several issues. My titanium restored Wi-Fi passwords are disappearing each time. The phone discharges as fast as it is charging. It will probably be empty after 1 hour on battery.
I think I will switch to my LG G2 I recently acquired... any ideas?
Cheers

I have tried the xposed modules I am familiar with but I haven't found a way to get the date in the status bar like Wanam does for Touchwiz. Coming from the Samsung S4, I got used to having it there for quick glance. Any one know of a setting or module I might be missing that could achieve this?
I should also note that the apps in the Play store are cheesy looking. I want something that matches the fonts of the phone and doesn't create an entry in the pull-down notification either.
Use a custom rom such as Mahdi and you can have this feature.

I would simply test it out and if it does not work for you simply delete it. But custom rom is the way to go. Also try SlimKat since OPO asked them personally to create a rom for there phone

I ended up trying it and it works for what I needed. Thank you both. I am still going to look into one of the custom ROMs. I just get tired of keeping up with the updates since there is no OTA (except for PA I believe).
For the functionality, I'm not sure, I just read various things about conflicts between CM and xposed/gravitybox tweaks.

Slim has a OTA and to be honest if it is running right why do you need to update. Updating is not mandatory but so many feel like if they dont have the latest they are going to burst....

Ever since I updated to lollipop my V4A audio driver has stopped working and after several different kinds of reinstalls and whatnot i still cant get it to work. Any idea what I can do to fix this? I love the phone sadly it just lacks a bit in sound quality over the headphone jack and viper4audio helped a lot with that. Ive looked the issue up on several forums but I only get fixes for nexus or custom roms, help with stock rooted note 4 fix please

In order to get V4A audio, you need to install a custom kernel that supports and can change SELinux to permissive. In my case I'm stock rooted with AEL kernel installed.
You can install whichever kernel you like for Lollipop, but it needs to support Permissive, for V4A to work.
Hope it helps,
Cheers.

It shouldn't affect or interfere with your apps. I've been using AEL for a while, and it's been flawless. ?
As the previous post states, put the kernel on your SD and flash with TWRP or CWM.

Now that google has patched systemless root, are there any more benefits to it compared to the regular root?
If you're on full stock you can unroot and flash ota's. That's about it afaik

It's currently the only method to root stock rom and kernel. And leaving /system read only and untouched seems to be marshmallow's flavor if you will.
I have been on systemless for awhile now so perhaps it has changed but dont you need a modified boot image to avoid the corrupt phone message?

few possiblilities:
1. You haven't received the rollout for the new safetynet api
2. Your payment wasn't checked with safetynet this time.
3. You lucky booger.
I was going to say, they may not have "updated" android pay yet. I wonder if you don't update how that will work. Tbh, the systemless root does seem pretty moot at this point unless you love OTAs.
It is gonna get to the point that people will have to pick either root/custom roms or using things like android pay. Not a big deal personally as all mobile payments are blocked in every store here
