apps outside of occulus on gear vr? - Samsung Gear VR

Anyone know if its possible to get apps outside of the occulus store?

Yes, you can download the Google cardboard apps. But you have to either disable the gear vr app so it doesn't automatically start or flip up the tab on the gear vr so it doesn't plug into the phone.

gear vr
Cool really appreciate that ,how do i disable the app?

There are a few disabler apps on the store that work. I'll look really quick to see what I have and which package you disable.

I highly recommend the package disabler pro. It does cost $1.95 buy is well worth it. From there you disable the gear vr service and then start your cardboard app. Don't forget to restart the service when you want to play with the oculus app.

when i start cardboard, it asks me to press the cardboard button. whatever Button I press on my vr, it doesn't work

Using my Gear 2 Neo with my LG G2

Hi, I just got a Gear 2 Neo and instead of using it with my Galaxy S4, I decided to use it with my LG G2. Just wanna share my experience here for someone else has the need which is similar to mine.
I could get it working with my LG G2 with full notification by installing the following APK of Gear Manager: http://www.mediafire.com/download/yo17ta4qyrx50zj/GearManager1_2.apk
However, without the ability to install S-Health, my activities like step counts, heart rate... doesnt get to be synced to my phone. And one more thing, I could check the update and found the new update but when I chose to install, the app got forced closed.
Love the Gear 2 Neo so far!!!

Does step count work? I'm assuming it only works on the watch, and not the phone.
Installed on a sony z1 and worked out of the box !
Thanks !!
Now I need to find how to load other apps

Have any of you tried Gear Manager version 1.7.040401 on your non Samsung phone? I keep getting an error when I try to (re)pair my HTC M8 with the Gear 2 Neo.
It works just fine with the Gear Manager posted on the OP, though (aside from the crashes when I try to update the Gear 2 Neo).

Crashes in the update software is understandable, we don't have samsung store... It works flawlessly here using the op apk.
A few minor glitches left, like s -health not working or notification for some apps showing only the app name and not the content (xabber for example), some missing apps like weather (tw dependancy), or no way to install third party apps like the sleep tracker (nobody released it, it's only on samsung store).
Appart from above, all functions of the watch are supported and working !

With the Galaxy Manager posted on the OP, the Gear 2 Neo will *probably* work out of the box. I said probably, because I've only tested it with the HTC One M8. I don't have any other Android phone I can test with at the moment.
To be fairly honest, I haven't spent too much time checking out all the features that work (and don't), but if I recall correctly:
• Notifications from the phone will be forwarded to the G2N just fine; this includes most third party applications (like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Hangouts, etc.)
• Contacts and Dialer, and I was able to make a call from the G2N (this goes through my M8)
• Find My Device (both G2N and M8 can "ping") each other
What doesn't work:
• Gallery (doesn't show any picture at all)
• Music Player (to be honest, not sure what it really does either)
• S-Voice will not work, in any under circumstances with non-Samsung phones, due to missing dependencies (TouchWiz Framework, and the S-Voice itself, which also relies on TouchWiz).
• Gear Updater, which crashed whenever you try to update your Gear through Gear Manager. There might be alternative ways to update your G2N though… but that's just theories at the moment.
• Weather, as it also relies on another Samsung-only app.
Limited Functionality
• Pedometer, Sleep Tracker, Exercise and other S-Health related features are limited to just the G2N. You can still record the data, but you can't sync or send it to the phone, as the these S-Health related data can only be viewed using S-Health (and this is limited to just Samsung phones only)
I can't remember what the latest update for the G2N is, but I believe it added Sleep Tracker (which has Do Not Disturb mode on it, or whatever the Samsung equivalent to DND)

Maybe you could sync using s-health lite posted on xda with the latest g2n fw. It was not working with mine but I don't have sleep tracker nor DND so I must have an earlier fw...

It seems that S-Health Lite has another dependencies related to Samsung Account; because it appears that it wants me to log-in to Samsung Account. And without logging in, the app is useless and not pulling/displaying data from the G2N.
Edit:
I went into a Rogers store and I updated my G2N using their S5, so I am on the latest firmware.
I got it to connect to my LG G2 and I get no notification pushed to the watch. Nothing is being pushed to the watch for notification. I can place a call with the gear but nothing else.

Tizen apps for gear 1?

Has anyone tried installing tizen apps from the Samsung Apps store (start it from the Gear Manager), since they updated their gear1 to run on Tizen?
I'm just wondering if my Multi-Watch app is available for the gear 1 and runs on it withoud problems.

There's already a new "Camera" app I was able to push (From the General Root discussion thread) to up recording from 15 sec. to 90 sec.
At the time, there where some watches released/converted to .wgt format to work by pushing to gear via SDB if rooted.
Hoping more "tweak" and whatnot become available since usually rooting a device opens up a whole new world of opportunity.
I just seen a post in the Gear Watch designs threads in "Apps" section that a user who is rooted reports their WatchStyler is working fine so now I'm stumped a bit.
I haven't been able to find it in Samsung Apps.

New to VR - SideloadVR not available. recommended alternatives?

Hi All
I just grabbed the Samsung gear VR yesterday. Now I am discovering all cool VR stuff.
I have come across Sideloading. There have been recommendations to download an app called SideloadVR. I have attempted to do this but apparently this is no longer available in Google play. Are there any alternatives to this or maybe there is another location I can grab it from.
Thanks for any info!
