Friday I bought my S7 but they didn't have any Gear VR's at the particular Costco I visited. I sent in the form for the bundle but it says it may take up to six weeks to receive. In the meantime the 6-Game bundle redemption instructions say I have to open the Oculus app on my S7 and claim the games by 4/20. I'll probably have it by then, but was hoping to activate the bundle before then.
I have a Note4 and the original Gear VR. The micro USB plug on that one doesn't fit the S7 because of a little notch, I think.
Any ideas on sideloading the Oculus app and/or claiming the bundle?
Bonus points: I bought my wife an S7 too. I guess I'll setup a second account in case there is something multiplayer. Any other interesting ideas to do with the second bundle?
You can use Nova Launcher to put an activity icon on the home screen but make it go to Oculus setup. This way you will be able to install the Oculus app and download the free games because you're on the Galaxy phone

That worked. I did an Activity that launched the Gear VR Setup.
The games included:
Darknet - was never interested
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - Looks fun but hadn't bought it
Star Chart
Anshar 2 - I bought it in January...
Herobound: Spirit Champion
Drift
Thanks!
Nice, thanks! It's a shame we have to wait for shipment for the GearVR promo.

Herobound was a great and fun game. Many hours of enjoyment, and it did great progressively harder, but still was able to beat the final boss fairly easily. Beautiful graphic, and responsive on my gamepad by Moga

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the game bundle outside of USA?
Or if it's possible to setup multiple accounts and get the same bundle?

I think for now there is no good solution yet because of too high latency for VR. But if you want to watch your own 2D/3D/360° movies you can just put them on the SD card of the Note 4 to watch in Gear VR.

It works. But it's a method of screen mirroring to your device. Apparently there are some quirks that need to be worked out to get it fully operational. It requires an additional app for head tracking. Plus you need to basically mod every pc program you want to use to support what is essentially a false HMD. I'm still working on it.

I've also noticed a lot of latency issues with a lot of apps meant for cardboard versus the gear vr apps. Basically anything meant for cardboard is "ok" as far as head tracking goes. But the gear apps are nearly perfect. (you can use cardboard apps by sliding the phone into place while holding the usb connection tilted so it doesn't quite connect) As an example, I tried Vanguard V before it was released for gear using the cardboard version. The tracking lag was irritating to say the least. But when I tried the gear version, the tracking was perfect. This makes me hesitant on how well this will work in general. Though some of them are hit or miss on tracking. A few are almost as good as the gear vr stuff. Almost. I think the Gear VR headset may have additional tracking sensors built into it. After all, it says "mouse disconnected" when you remove the handset from the headset.
I think there is gyro in headset itself. There is folder called oculus in phone storage with "gyrocalibration" file inside

That also could be calibration on the phone gyro.

Is there any place I can experience gear VR in new york?
I had to call several T Mobile stores before being informed that the demo would only be at one location in my entire state.

VR is the shiznit. If nothing else get for its value as a commodity; the first of its kind and exclusive to our phone. If I weren't so frugal, I'd probably get 2 and keep one unsealed. Either way, the value far surpasses the cost of admission.

You maybe able to find one in a local BestBuy. Some stores got demo versions but most didn't. If you were closer to Denver I would meet up with you and let you try. I too couldn't find any demo unit before I bought my Gear VR and that almost stopped me from even purchasing one. I didn't want the Gear VR to end up like my Google Glass, collecting dust. I am VERY glad it didn't stop me this thing is pretty damn awesome.

come to the samsung experience store, i work there, it located in
130 Prince street, New York, NY 10012
feel free to stop by tomorrow i work there,my name is Cary,i loved to give you a run down on the device,i i have one at home, and it off the hook, and bring ppl along we the first samsung store ever,so stop by and ask for me
Samsung isn't advertising the gear vr at all, cause of its Innovator Edition status. But Samsung experience stores should have it, also if your in NY Google a VR meetup in your area and you could probably try several types of vr if you wanted. I wasn't able to test it before I got mine either, but I figured if it was straight up junk I would just return it. Got it launch day and its by far worth every penny of that 200, especially if you already own a note 4. Honestly it's been amazing, from the games that under normal circumstances I would never play but in VR it's a whole different experience, to the oculus cinema which is downright awesome, loading my own 3D or 2D movies into. Last thing I got the controller too, most stuff doesn't need it but there's some cool stuff that does or it enhances the experience, I'd recommend one of those moga ones if the Samsung gamepad which I don't really like is out of stock.

Is the device comfortable? I mean its on your face and all, what about ventilation? I've read quite a bit and still have my doubts. Not entirely sure I want to spend on it just yet.
hey, has anyone tried using the new jakku spy vr portion in the star wars app with gear vr? everything i've read says the vr will work with cardboard apps, but when i try this, it just looks wrong. which suck because i really want to try it.
I'm guessing i just don't have the right setup for cardboard? i don't know. pretty new to all of this.

Well after watching a few vids, i tried sliding my note 4 into the vr without plugging it in. i tried a few cardboard aps, and they seem alright, but the star wars one is messed up. the text scrawl has each eyes imang crossing into and through each other. kind of frorming a huge jumbled X mess of text.

I remember that at least one of the Jakku Spy videos has text that didn't line up for me. I think the videos might have some issues where they didn't render the stereoscopic alignment correctly.
My former employees gave me a galaxy vr as a going away gift on my last day. So far, I'd say this is the most fun accessory that I've gotten for my note 5. Even the free content is fantastic. I've installed package disabler to be able to run cardboard apps, but I want to know if anyone has found any fun items for this device.

I used Package Disabler Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
I don't have root access and it works for me to disable Gear VR Service. I don't have the VR yet, so I can't test the rest.
Good luck.
I think there is a free version of the app too.
I had one of these for my note 4 and found it to kill the battery and make the phone so hot that it often shut down after 30 mins due to heat. Tried it on my note 5 but same issues. However it was more of a problem as no SD card slot, so found the games large enough to fill up my device quickly. Note 4 was a quick swap of the memory card.
The image wasn't clear either - as mentioned above each eye separately seemed ok but blurred a little together. It feels like the lens need an adjustment to suit width of eyes also.
I found the VR interesting but gimmicky. It seems like an afterthought. But as its early days I'd have expected the consumer edition to be improved over the innovator edition...but its just not. However it is half the price!
Next version will hopefully further improve this. I can totally see a market more these but as an early adopter I soon became bored with it (and had a few headaches too as a result of the blurring!).
Don't forget to install Herobound: First Steps (free). You'll really need a controller to get the most out of it, but its the first game I played that really felt immersive.
What controller do you guys recommend?
