I recently upgraded to 195 sacraficing root as I didnt see a need for it really and love the Sony full stock experienced however I have now found I lost the emoji mod I had installed on it. I feel slightly extreme going through the root process for a locked bootloader for this small mod and was wondering if there was a way to get this on my device. The little boxes I get on Twitter and instagram along with the texts from my girlfriends iPhone are a bit annoying now I was used to seeng them translated. It is not a big issue I was just wondering if the is something to the me over to the jelly bean update in February.
Thanks

You don't need Jelly bean or rooted phone to write with emoij on your new device, just download free MulitLanguage keyboard from play Market and start typing. But to enable "viewing" on Twitter or Instagram of the small cute black and white things (aka emoij), then you need rooted phone (I can give you link for emoij codex on ICS) or wait for Jelly Bean firmware update later this year or early next year, -Im sorry!
HI all,
So Samsung has decided that we won't get any more updates, which means no official 4.3 for us, which is a bit disappointing but can't say I was surprised.
However I was thinking, how come no one is porting the Samsung 4.3 firmware from Note2 or Note3 to our original Note? Would this even be possible and is it something that might happen in the near future?
Many thanks for your comments.

That was a joke?
GNote is actually dead to them, 4.4 will be released only for GS4,GN3 and others new phones
So I just got the AT&T S5 Active, the best comparison I could find is on GSM Arena, and its the not exact chipset label, slightly different so I'm hesitant to try putting a rom on it.
Any dev's care to try and help me out to figure out if a S5 ROM will work, without actually trying to put one on, and bricking my phone?
I'm not sure how the process works but I'm sure there is a test or something I can run without bricking my phone on a first attempt to put on a rom.
Bump!
Anyone else on here have a S5 Active that would like to know the same?
I have an S5 Active as well and want to put a custom ROM too. I really like the Xtrestolite ROM.

Hello!!
I have the s5 active, our bootloaders are locked just like the S5 ATT/VZW. You can install safestrap and flash any ROM that will work on the ATT S5 only. Xposed framework works, safestrap works, black theme works " need a few files from the international variant for black dialer/incallui to work right. I left mine stock, rooted via towel root, de bloated all the junk, black themed and Xposed framework tweaks. I just find stuff in the S5 threads and if I like I try lol..
Good looking out man.

How about cyanogen? I'm interested in installing something other than TouchWiz.

Now that I've been messing with this thing for a while, I'd be ok with just debloating this baby.

It's alright but I want to be able to install android l when it comes out not two three years down the road when Samsung gets to it. And be able to use Xposed and get my 8 shortcuts back on my lockscreen. The heart rate monitor and the ability to take a double picture and funny noises while unlocking are all cute features but I need functional not cute features. So am I going to have to return my device for a different brand?

Is there not an official sub-forum/thread anywhere for this phone? I don't have the phone yet but have been searching to find some sort of development to decide if I should buy one. I really like this phone but no development is a deal breaker for me. I know this phone isn't at the top of the popularity list and that's probably why. My interest peaked when towel root made its debut and I've been itching to buy one ever since.
Can anyone else confirm that most/all at&t s5 goodies also work for the s5 active?

These kind of goodies... Just wanted to hear other people's experiences with safestrap...s5 ROMs...etc
No such thing as s5 active roms supposedly. I haven't been keeping up with the forums for these anymore since this one is about it.
It's good enough of a phone without a rom. Battery life is good, runs great, I just want to debloat this thing of ATT/Samsung crap.
What every happened to the idea of android being open source?

A lot of questions being thrown around here.
There is no sub forum for the S5 Active, the request has been submitted but not approved.
You can flash ROMs after you root the phone by following this thread; S5 regular roms will work, just not the active button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087
There is at least one specific S5 Active ROM

Download Booster detail is here:

Android L, or whatever google choose to name any new update, Samsung and at&t take forever to update its phones and they are loaded with stuff I don't want or need. I want google edition on my phone.. Will that ever happen? Touchwiz is OK everyone has there own opinion but I only bought this very expensive device to put alternate Roms on it. Please let me know.. if I can't install slim ROM, google edition, or cm at any point in this devices life I will be returning it.

You better return it then. Our phones have a locked bootloader. Locked bootloader means no kernel which means no alternative roms that don't use the stock touchwiz kernel.

I wanted to get people's opinions/experiences with running rooted Lollipop without Xposed vs. 4.4.2 with Xposed. I've been using a GS3 on 4.4.2 with Xposed for a while know. I love the few modules I use (no lock home screen, wanam, amplify) and I'm not to keen to stop using them. However, with my GS5 coming this week, I'm trying to decide if I should stay on 4.4.2 or update (via muniz method) to rooted 5.0 (which Xposed won't work on).
Anyone here with any opinions on it either way? Is Lollipop such a huge step up on the GS5 that I'll enjoy the good stuff more than missing Xposed?
Thanks!
If you bought an AT&T S5, you will be frustrated and disappointed by how little you can do when compared to your S3. I have a great deal of buyers remorse about my AT&T GS5, the crypto'd boot loader is the bane of my existence. Having said that, the upgrade to Lollipop is very nice, and the root essential. I wish I had Xposed, but I can wait. I would have rather been able to load up CM12.1- just sayin'
Thanks for the insight. I actually took cm off my s3 as I preferred the stability of TW and don't really mind the skin that much, esp with wanamkit on it. I had about a year where I flashed **** like a madman, but got tired of instabilities and redoing my phone all the time, so the locked bootloader doesn't bother me as much.
Just for ****s and giggles, I put cm12 on my gs3 today and hated it. The colors, the new volume modes, the way notifications show up on the lock screen, and other stuff, I almost immediately switched back to tw 4.4.2. Knowing that I can downgrade from 5.0 using the Muniz method makes me think I'll try it out for a bit and see what happens.
Curious, do you leave GPS, wifi, bt, and all that jazz on all the time on you s5? How's the battery life? What would you say are the biggest improvements of 5 over 4.4?
I have the firmware to downgrade to 5.0.2 was wondering if it's possible or not. Didn't know if the bootloader would block it or not. Can someone help me and let me know if there is anyway to downgrade from 7.0 to 5.0.2
looking to drop from 6.01 to 5.02 or kitkat also
I had just got mine last week after my xperia play died (RIP) I did the research decided I did not care about rooting but wanted a rugged phone that could handle my level of abuse and had a solid battery and a good processor that didn't overheat. I don't regret my buy, its an awesome phone. here is where the big but comes in. I love emulation so I was stoked that it plays everything that I threw at it. psp psx, n64, DS even dreamcast plays very well, I saw an ota update and since I knew there was no rooting I took the plunge to 6.0.1 2 days after the ota I discovered that the dolphin emulator I use for my pc has a working one for android. not half assed, but almost fully functional. I install it and spend hours trying to figure out why it doesn't work -
little did I know I sealed my fate here. I come to find that the update screws up the graphics drivers( only for the dolphin) as far as I know? so almost all of the games are garbled junk in 6.0.1 and there is no repair in sight and since the lack of interest for this model is almost nill no one is going to bother fixing these issues most likely. I do however have 3 or 4 that play perfectly- almost, Gauntlet dark legacy, thug 2, and alien hominid. robotech works ok-ish so I too am interested in a downgrade. I found an article talking about the reversal of nougat to mm and it has the walkthrough and all of the files. I see no real reason that I couldn't simply use that walkthrough downgrade and replace the nougat to mm to my dilemma of mm to lollipop. is this a workable assumption or does all of the security and bl interfere with this idea? if I am right couldn't I revert back to KitKat where I read somewhere that you could actually root it then?
So will anyone respond to this? or is this a dead area? Id like to know please also if I am right some working links to the all of the firmwares.
Trial and Error. Worth a shot
