Root for note 5 920c running on marshmallow 6.0.1 - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a way to root my note 5 920c running on marshmallow 6.0.1? couldn't find anything in the threads
.

Maybe try to Custom Kernel ?

anything in particular?

chanfire auto root or skyhigh kernel

Really disappointing there is no way of rooting this phine at the mo without tripping knox. Frustrating knowing that I could use the likes of Amplify and App Ops to dramatically improve battery life. I have big wakelocks at the mo.
Is there much likelyhood we'll ever see a non knox way of rooting this phone? I'm temped to jump to the s7 edge as I feel that has more chance of this.
I'd love to jump back to HTC if they could release a phone with QI charging and a top end camera. Looks like my Amoled wish is at least getting fulfiled with the M10.

You would think they will "Try" to satisfy us with 5.1.1 but no!

Installed 5.1.1 on my 910C thinking It will fix everything at least not asking for extra features but I was so appointed. The phone STILL vulnerable to "Stagefright" I don't know what does this update include but it seems like everything is same as before. Picture takes 3-4 sec to show after shooting, performance is sh!t compare to my Tab S2 which has the same processor but the note 4 lags like hell. Its great to note that its a fresh installation not just an upgrade over odin and root doesn't work anymore. Guess have to wait!
Thought I will share what I found so far. Will update after all apps done installation to see if anything changes.
Update:
Recent app very fast
Antutu score 46k
Ram used 1.4GB
Root doesn't work

thats what i hate about samsung.
late update.
no new features
no 64bit support
treating s6 and s6 edge like they are only flagships. :/
Im very satisfied with the update for now. Performance is excellent. I prefer this update rather than a fail software like they give for s6.

S6 scores 70k on Antutu and its launcher fly compare the note 4. I used to have the S6 and its much much faster than note 4
i believe s6 will get marshmallow in 3 months of 6.0 release so maybe they can solve issues plaguing s6 and s6 edge like lags and battery.
while note 4 was always maybe most hated device from them since its launch.
imagine 5.1.1 a small update from 5.0.1 took 4 months :/
marshmallow is just dream to get before march 2016.

ps:i use nova launcher on both

Surprisingly no. This is the first thing i checked after I saw that the Tabs S2 is very very smooth compare to my note 4. I had a high hope that they figured out how to optimize the internal and will see the same on the note 4 soon, but that wasn't the case. I think note 4 need its software to be recreated or Android M will fix it.

All I gotta say is the note4 multitasks better, rather switches apps faster and better. The ram management on the s6/edge/nope5/edge can suck it.

Compared to a SD810 Note 4 you might be right. Exynos 5433 and 7420 are very close in terms of CPU, the real difference between the two is the GPU power.

The Note series has a different developer team than the S-series, and they're way better. You can expect the Note 5 FW to be better than the S6's.

Note 5 ,android 6.0.1

Does anybody have news about Note 5 update?
Even my potato is now running android M, and my Note 5 is just on the waiting queue .
Dumb Samsung.
They better do it well this time, or I have to leave Samsung galaxy series till the end of my life. :crying:

Very true ^^ we won't see marshmallow until after the s7 been out for a few months .

Note 4 to S7 (not S7 Edge), would you do it?

I've been thinking about it for the past 2-3 days. Went to check out the phone at a store and I think it's pretty good.
Of course I ll sell my Note 4 and end up paying around 350$, but is it worth it?
The size seems perfect, the camera menu is good, speed as expected is also good.
Yes, I use the S Pen occasionally, but it's not that I can't live without it.
Also, going from 5.7 to 5.1 might seem a bit strange, but the ease of use might make up for that.
Battery wise, they are almost the same, but I guess the S7 will be less power hungry so it'll have bettery battery life.
I have the Note 4 since its launch and I am ok with it, although it's starting to lose its snappiness. Perhaps some degradation of the internal storage.
I also checked the S7 Edge, but its a no go, I dont like it that the edges of the screen are distorted.
If i was in your position, i wouldn't consider about it, note 4 is still an awesome phone and will be for a quite long time.
If you get used to a phablet size, i think you gonna regret for switching to a normal size. SPen is a great feature for me, since i have to keep notes very often.
I think it should be a better move to keep the note 4 and your money, and buy the note 6 someday.

+1 I played wth the s7's too and have been tempted to snag a couple. But I prefer note sized phones for reading. Wait for the Note 6 to see what new hardware it brings to the table before you throw money away.
No.
Note 6 maybe ........ no S for me
Hmmm... You convinced me guys. Thats what I'll do. If the Note 6 also sucks, I ll get the S7 at that time, which will also be a lot cheaper.
If you have money why not?
But for me my note 4 is still capable of anything that S7 can do. No reason at all for me.
Sent from my SM-N920C using Tapatalk
I've considered both the S7 Edge and the standard S7. In my opinion and limited experience with both S7 variants, I'd prefer the physical appearance of the S7 with the bigger (but not edge) screen of the S7 Edge as well as the battery of the S7 Edge.
However, as I've basically described the Note 6 I'll just wait for that.
I'd rather go Note 4 > Note 6, but it is heavily dependent on whether the bootloader is locked or not.
I mean, if I wanted to purchase a device that I'm unable to modify, why even go the Android route?
Only real way I can accept a locked-down Samsung device, is if it was significantly cheaper than the equivalent iDevice.

I'm in the nearly same situation.
The terrible Updatesituation of Note 4 lead me back to the s variants. Will a possible Note 6 more prefered as Note 4by Samsung itself.
Today i would take the S7 Edge because of screensize. I will miss Spen for the first time but the S Variants look better supported atm as Note Series.

I'm keeping my note 4 until something that really makes a jump in quality.
Note 4 to s7 wouldn't be worth the change for me plus I would hate going smaller now.
I think 4k amoled screens will be on Samsung agenda soon plus I think there will be some major improvements on the processors in terms of performance and battery life.
Waiting for the next note or nexus 6.
Specs don't mean as much as they did 5yrs ago. I'm in no hurry to upgrade I used to upgrade yearly but to be honest there isn't anything out there that is that much better. How fast does a phone need to be?
Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
Got the s7 and its perfect in many ways! Go for it!
if you are not going for the edge screen and its beautiful design, then just wait for the note 6, or reconsider upgrading to the s7 edge. i just had my new s7 edge today and kept my note 4 also, i did the upgrade for the dualsim and the beatiful designe and edges

I think you should wait and get the Note 6 if you want to upgrade. For the money, in my case dollar for dollar the Note series is a better value with the extras. Plus, as is been rumored it may be announced/released in the Jun/Jul time period, not too far from now. In addition, some new features may be added to the N series that the S may get on following upgrade. That's my two cents.
I think I'm going from a note 4 snapdragon to a lg g5 when its released in aus
Just read that the 12MP camera is a 4:3 sensor, So for 16:9 pictures you get stuck with 9.1MP instead of the full 16MP of the note 4.
This is a mayor drawback for me.
Noooo!
Can't do the switch, it will kill you. Annnnd, square photos.
Don't do it. Wait for the Note 6.

Why do you want to change your note 8? What do you dislike about it? I would consider anything else except a note 9, as a downgrade
I dislike the battery.I absolutely hate the speaker. It's shameful for a device of this price.I also dislike the slow updates but that is a Samsung issue overall.Touchwiz launcher is horrible but that's an easy fix.All that being said nobody makes as good of a screen as samsung,I adore the camera and the s-pen is an absolute delight.I don't know about upgrading to the note 9 simply because that'd be a net loss of 500$ for only 6 months of usage on my note 8 but I'm positive I'll be getting the S10/Note 10
I think, there are more then enough people who needs every 6 month a new device.
I don't know why.
Don't be afraid to hit the "Thanks" button if someone helped you. It don't hurts

Nothing as such I just wanna change I am hating its curve screen which has no use at all and not a single screen protector fix on it (tried 4 so far)
I like OP6 but then its camera is not as good as Note 8 camera is, secondly it has no HDR for Netflix and Amazon and its vibrations are so so weird!!
I like LG G7 ThinQ though havent tried it yet!

You will probably have a difficult time with that question in this forum since we're here because we like/love the Note series of phones. With that being said I don't disagree with the speaker part, I'm hoping the Note 9 will have stereo speakers, preferably more robust speakers to boot.
You need to get a full screen adhersion screen protector. They can be found pretty easily you just need to look for them. But I would stick with the Note 8 as it is a very good device and will probably last you for a good few years.

The LG G7 and HTC U12 won't have any better battery life compared to Note 8. PIxel 2 XL would be an option. Huawei Mate 10 Pro or P20 Pro is another option. Note 9 is around the corner with 4000 mah battery which should help
Bought OnePlus 6 Mirror Black 128gb (Black Mirror is so sexy its dope, OnePlus did an amazing job), its amazing freaking fast, smooth, the gestures are nice as well. I love the full screen display with notch though so many people don't like it, you can't compare the camera with Note 8 one's but its not that bad seriously and with Gcam the pictures comes really nice.
Over all experience is so satisfying, I don't miss Note 8 at all :good:

If I were you, I would go probably for the Huawei P20 Pro.
I get puzzled by such threads? The Note series is unique as a mobile phone experience.
The S-pen is whats makes the Note, the Note. If one doesn't need or use the S-pen I cant imagine why one would purchase a Note series mobile? To that end there are no options or other choices to the SG Note 8 until the Note 9 is released shortly.
If the S-pen is not of primary use then there are numerous other mobile phones to explore.
One thing is a certainty in the mobile world, no phone will please all users. That is why there is a plethora of choices. Every mobile made has its positives also negatives, its all a question of needs and usage prioritise.
I need and use the S-pen, it makes my mobile a pocket PC.
If I didn't need the S-pen I would look at mobiles with my second priority and that is good DAC and sound quality. Some prioritise the camera or screen size, the list is endless.
Ryland
so true, Ryland; plus, why do people thing anyone cares about why they hate a particular phone?
If you hate the note 8, get rid of it and get something else; no one here cares to hear your sob story about why its so awful..
BTW, even though I have had several Note phones, start with the first one, I rarely use the Spen at this point in my life; I like them for their size, their screen, and the "extras" that samsung includes in their phones...Sure, the sound sucks, but there are endless BT/Wired/Wireless speakers and head sets that make that point moot. Battery life is no issue, with wireless charging, and most of the other complaints are just silly ..
anyways, lets hope that people who dont like this phone just get rid of it, and move on, without giving us endless posts about why they hate/hated/got rid of it..no one cares!!!

I had an LG G7 ThinQ for 2-3 days, couldn't stand the UI and is on the small side for me compared to the Note 8. G7 is not slow just different when you use all these phones. Ended up giving it to my Granddaughter after 3 days.
Probably a Note 9 or an iPhone X plus
The note 8's battery is as trash as the Note 5's.

Which model to buy? Snapdragon or Exynos?

Hi all, I'm planning to buy note 9 dual sim but I'm in confusion to buy snapdragon model or Exynos model. I have searched a lot & found that snapdragon version in much faster than exynos. I also noted that rooting & customization stuff is mostly available for Exynos model.
So, which one to buy? I want to root it & flash custom rom in it. Please help.

Just want to give you a warning not do this if you want to use Samsung pay and Samsung pass. So unlocking bootloader will trigger the safety thing in the knox chip which permanently breaks the Knox chip so apps like Samsung pay, Samsung pass secret folder wont function anymore since they need working Knox chip to work. Also encryption may break aswell since Knox stores the encryption keys I think.

You pretty much answered your own question. Most of the community development happens on Exynos, so if you want to flash anything, get an Exynos variant.
If you live in the US then you would need to purchase the SnapDragon variant to get LTE/4G reception. As the Exynos variant isn't support for use in the US.

It's your choice really. Keep in mind that there are not a lot of ROM/kernels (currently 1 kernel )/specific modifications for the exynos note 9. You won't get a lot out of it, imagine after a year - it will be totally dead in development. What you will get is vastly inferior phone with 30% slower GPU, worse battery life, slower apps loading, slower multitasking, UI frame drops. The sd845 is not somewhat better, it runs circles around the exynos 9810. Yep, I have the exynos note 9. So if you want 3-4 ROMS and 1 kernel currently that will be gone when s10/note 10 comes out - go for the SOC that is more a midrange category for the price of the highend variant.
Will just say that few XDA fellow members got their hands over the both variants, all of them coming prepared for a difference. All of them said the difference is a lot bigger than what they expected, kept the snapdragon and returned the exynos.

I think it's obvious which one I recommend - the snapdragon 945 note 9. For me it's: midrange phone with root or highend phone without root. It's not equal category that I decide between. Go at anandtech and search for Andrei's articles on 9810 and also there is one from December that directly put exynos note 9 vs sd note 9.
Between s9+ snapdragon and note 9 snapdragon - the note 9, it got a lot bigger battery, a lot better SOC cooling (important for the sd845 especially), s-pen, lower angle on the edges, bigger screen (albeit slightly).
Edit: you would be surprised how good is the spen for diablo 2 when the phone is on the table.

Thanks for ur recommendation. One last question. I have checked note 9 forum here and found that snapdragon variant doesn't have any custom rom with it. But exynos has couple of custom roms that are active.
I know snapdragon is faster n better than exunos but it has no custom rom as compared to exynos variant. So much confusion in buying[emoji26]
