Issues with Knox and USB Debugging - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

Hey, First post so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.
Basically I'm trying to get USB Debugging enabled on my S6 to run builds of a game i'm making in Unity.
Problem I'm having that in my developer options, USB Debuggin is completely grayed out, I've found out this is because Knox has restricted its use. (WHY?!)
I've searched my phone for a multitude of ways to remove Knox or at least disable it but keep coming up short.
In knox's settings there are no icons for uninstalling.
I've tried to run :
Su pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
In terminal emulator which hasn't given me any luck and short of rooting the phone (which I'd really rather not do as I'd brick it, without question) I'm out of ideas and pumped up on sheer frustration.
Any help would be well appreciated.

What's the model and the android version?

[Q] Android DEBUG Tool??? - Question for DEVS

Is there a way to analyze what is wrong with someone's ROM and fix it without having to abandon the ROM to a different one, or waiting forever for someone else to maybe fix it? I've had to go to quite a few different ROMs as of late to get the functionality that I'm looking for because things didn't work with many ROMs, they had things broken. I would rather just learn how to fix them and then even post a fix for everyone. Devs, is this possible or would this only be something that the ROM COOK could do? Two recent examples include:
1. USB Tethering connecting to my PC, giving my PC a LAN IP, but not being able to get anywhere on my PC while my phone is still able to surf.
2. Bluetooth AD2P hiccups.
Then also add more functionality, like EPST functionality in Froyo and Gingerbread.
I've done a bit with logcat but as of yet is difficult for me to understand. I've successfully used debugging tools on Windows however in order to fix problems with applications that were hanging up on bad files, dlls, etc.. Was hoping I could learn how to do it with Android. Any help is appreciated.

If you don't understand what the logcat is telling you, you will have a hard time writing any code for a fix. Might want to invest in a "linux for dummies" book and start there. I think there is even a book like that for android programming out now, iirc...

Nexus 7 Security

Greetings,
I tried to ask this in the NexusRoot Toolkit thread, but I need 10 posts.
My question has to do with Nexus 7 Security and Rooting. Can I turn the developer options back off after rooting, and still have the 'rooted' experience? I'm concerned with any malware infections, and also exploiting the device using a Cellebrite UFED:
w w w .cellebrite.com/mobile-forensics-products/forensics-products.html
I will be encrypting the entire device using Android encryption. Anything to watch out for when enabling encryption, in relation to rooting? Is the max unlock/encryption length still 16 characters on Jelly bean?
Thanks,
RF
Well, you are defending against two different things there.
ufed goes through the usb client mode while you would be defending installed software from the network for whatever malware concerns you might have.
I don't know if anything in user space can defend against a ufed if they want your data bad enough. I have seen it suggested that if you put something like Ubuntu on the device the ufed wouldn't know what to do with it. But I am sure they have plenty of tech specialists who they could then turn the device over to.
A check at a traffic stop might be something you could defend against. But if they have a subpoena and time...well the laws protect them not us.
You could use PDroid to stop apps from having permissions. That seems like the best defense to me for regular everyday data mining. We have not brought it to Jelly Bean yet, but it shouldn't be long.

Thanks Sir. This is my first Tablet, and my first 'DIY' Unlock & Root. I do currently run Whispercore on a Nexus S though, but that was one click rooting from the installer and I don't touch it. As long as I can power down at a stop, UFED is spinning in the wind with WhisperCore. I want the same functionality from Jelly bean, but am unfamiliar with exactly how it works compared to Moxie's solution. I know that USB Debugging Enabled is an exploitable hole that devices like UFED use, that's why I wanted to know if I can disable all the developer options again, after rooting, with no ill effect.
I also block Android GPS Daemon from communicating, with Whisper Monitor, so hopefully Jelly Bean will have some firewalls able to do this soon.
Thanks for your reply,
RF
You should be alright with malware as long as you're careful what applications and ROMS you're downloading and from where.

Yes after rooting you can turn it off. (In fact you can turn off developer options completely, and install apps from unknown sources is labeled under security). Only thing you won't be able to do is side load apps or use like titanium backup to restore apps.

I thought whispercore got purchased (by twitter, I think? Maybe?) and is only available for the nexus s. Maybe you plan to sideload it? I haven't personally found a way to try it yet.
But yeah, you can shut off adb mounting. I have actually spent a good chunk of my day looking into how to require a passcode for USB mounting in the kernel, for an unrelated project.
I haven't determined whether the multiuser claims are sufficient. I have muktiuser through botbrew, but that is a little more complicated than what I need there.
You are correct, I have a Nexus S also, running WhisperCore. The N7 will have to run Google's built in implementation of encryption. Thanks for all the replies. I'll Unlock & Root, and then disable Developer Options again. In the 'off state' Google's encryption should protect from UFED type attacks. I'll probably install Avast! (if it runs on the N7) for malware protection.
RF
Yeah from my understanding of UFED your pretty well protected as long as you don't have USB debugging on; so while not ideal, only turning it on when you need it would be the easiest way to secure the device. (along with all the normal stuff like having an actual password etc)
Considering how much apple fanboys tout the iphone's security, its fairly ironic that UFED can still pull some of their info regardless of settings whereas on android if USB debugging is off and a password is used UFED is useless.
I know, right :good: Is max password length still 16 characters? It is on Gingerbread. I wish this thing had a USB slot...I'd love to be able to use my Yubikey with it. I wonder if the NFC Yubikey version would work on the Lock Screen?

Hello there people of XDA, I am glad I've found a place where I might find the answer for the problem I have been facing with nowadays.
I am using LG P880 Optimus 4xHD, but I haven't done any Android OS upgrades, I bought it at May 2013 so I think it still has the Ice cream sandwich system. Anyways, I had somehow forgot my screen lock pattern and tried to unlock it unsuccessfully 15 times, and my phone was locked. I couldn't confirm my Google account details as Wifi and mobile data were turned off. I hadn't have enabled USB debugging by then, also I don't have CWM recovery mode and so on. What can I say, I was just a simple user. But right now, I don't want to lose all the data I had stored inside. It used to work as MTP device but as it is locked right now I can't even access my files in it. I found some programs and guides about how to unlock this pattern lock but not for my device, instead Nexus devices and so on. I am so lost about this, all the guides and videos I have found either require USB debugging enabled, or a Samsung/Nexus/HTC device :/ I really hope you guys know how can I can solve this before taking it to another Tech service. I have tried 2 of them but they were simply unqualified and never heard of any process people mention about here, they just wipe all the data and give the phones back to customers.
Have a nice day everyone
Since you are probably on ICS, there is almost no chance you can unlock it in the situation you described.

I don't think that you have any chance to get your data. sorry
None of the services can do that, so you can reset phone by yourself to save money and time

Remove Knox or Root without debug options

Hi all. I'm new to the site, so if I'm posting in the wrong forum, please let me know. I hope someone can help.
When I left my last company, they allowed me to take my Note 9 because it was paid in full. New management came in and set up Knox MDM. Because my device was paid for by them, they added my device to Knox and put it in Kiosk mode. I can no longer do anything on it but send/receive calls. I contacted Verizon, and they said even though i pay for the service, the device is technically still owned by the company and couldn't help me. So, i'm left with either buying a new phone or asking new management to remove me from knox. They will not, so I was hoping someone knew how to remove knox, possibly through rooting the phone. However, I can't enable developer mode. When I click on the build number, i get a message saying the feature is disabled by knox.
this is just a suggestion, I'm not saying to follow it. wait for someone else to confirm it's an OK idea or a terrible one.
using a PC or even another rooted phone you could run ADB and remove Knox packages. pretty sure you can do this successfully on newer phones but with Knox ''activated'' and doing stuff I'm not sure.

Thanks for the advice. I'm good with that route, and I'm good with wiping the phone to root it. I installed ADB on my laptop and connected the phone, but it when I run adb devices, nothing is returned. I assumed it was because the phone wasn't in developer or usb debugging mode. So, I was hoping there was a way to do it without needed access to settings.
oh crap yeah, I forgot you did say that. curious do you still work for this company ?
either try doing ADB thru the recovery (never tried it, know nothing about it but it's a thing) or give a factory reset a try. the reset should at the very least kill off the companies settings though I'm not sure how much use that'll be.
flashing appropriate firmware with Odin should work for you too.

Thanks 3mel. I'll give those things a whirl. I'm not employed with them anymore, which is why going to new management isn't an option. A friend of mine still works there and they told me that management asked verizon for the device id's for the last 5 years and just put them all on knox. For them, $1/mo for a devices no longer in use by them outweighed the potential of missing devices in the wild.

Hello,

without debug mode, adb devices doesn't list any devices.
there is really no way to flash a custom ROM on this phone, without log into the old google account?
