Yesterday my 6515 stopped cooperate with me! Totally!
- I didn't dropped him or physically damaged,
- The battery was charged in 85% just before it was switched off itself
- Back cover closed with no gaps between cover and body
- Was fully functional when suddenly switched off
- I didn't upgraded anythihng before.
Symptoms:
- Ipaq is not reacting on start button
- Not reacting on reset
- Not reacting on hard reset
- The left diode blinking red during charging via usb cradle when I’m pressing power up button
- The same happens with regular charger
- During charging with regular charger when I’m opening the back panel the diode stop blink and become flash continuously in red.
I have already tried almost everything to start it up:
Changed the battery,
Open, close the back battery panel
With and without SD card
Appreciate any HELP!
small update
Ok I have made some progress..
Now I can see the bootloader screen and that's it.
What to do next ???
Im not sure what blinking red means but when you remove the backcover, the red led will lite up.
Try to do a hard reset, and see if it restarts without going to bootloader. Otherwise, you will probably need to upgrade the firmware from the bootloader screen. Download the latest rom updates from hp.

Thanks for reply
Indeed! When I opened back cover the led become flash continuously!
I have tried to apply the rom update from HP unfortunately all of the updates have to be done through Active sync!
It is impossible in current situation because of pressing Power+Joystick+Reset the ootloader screen appear but then nothing This is happens only when PDA is charging with regular charger. Using USB charge or battery power I can't even start the bootloader screen.
From where can I download the SD bootable image or how to make it?
And again small step ahead:
Hi
And again small step ahead:
In craddle there is another input for power so I managed to power it up and connect.
I had to switch of firewall (otherwise i have error 601 - unable to connect the device or something simmillar) and reinstall Active sync back to 3.8
Got bootloader screen USB and hp logo and v 021
by running romupdate utility downloaded from hp site ( whatever the version is ) I finally recognized my model version: it is 6515c
Next
Found valid version from HP site for 6515c ( i think 1.21) and successfully upgraded. No breaks, no other issues just successfully uploadede into finish.
Then hard reset and......
The system starts, screen flashes up, system start loading and the screen fading out. ... and again ..... and again ...... and again and the nothing!
I have tried again to pull out back cover, remove batery, put it back after some time, place back the cover and again.
Nothin' Nada Null %$#@%!$#ing piece of junk.
BTW it is happening only where PDA it is connected to AC power. On battery system is not booting, no booloader nothing!
Any suggestions? Pleeeeeeeease!
After you upgraded the firmware and it started up, was this done with the pda on AC or battery power? If its on battery and it starts fading, your battery is probably screwed. Did you also know there are 2 batteries in the IPaq?
Oh and if its a battery problem, you will need to leave the battery+pda connected to the AC for a while before it can startup and probably into booloader. Run your firmware upgrade again and power it on with the AC connected! If it boots up fine, then monitor the battery status bars in the Power settings and see if both the LiIon and NiMh batteries are holding charge. Hopefully from here you can find a dead battery.
Another thing you could try is to reset the battery when in bootloader mode once you are certain its the battery
http://blogs.unbolt.net/index.php/brinley/2006/08/02/howto_reset_discharged_battery_for_ipaq_6515
Battery reset? Could might be the issue?
Hi
I really appreciate your response.
The whole upgrade and the other stuff have been done with inserted battery and AC connected.
I plugged the PDA into the cradle which was connected to PC via USB and I plugged also AC into the cradle AC input.
It is fading just after reboot only when the iPAQ is connected to AC power (of course battery is inserted otherwise it will not startup anyway.)
On pure battery power it doesn’t giving any signs of living whatever button has been pressed.
The link you provided might contain very valuable directions to me. The man is learning within whole life and dying still being stupid.
I thought that I read the info from the site you suggested but I probably missed the meaning of the post regarding battery reset. That might be this. I will check and update you very soon.
I did the steps from above link. The iPAQ rebooted, started to load the os and again faded out….
Question to everybody:
During bootloader screen appear should I have any diode flashing blinking or whatever
I’m asking because of mine is blind!
Nothing is flashing, blinking, beaming or shining. Just two, completely dead diodes.
Hi, I've just found out what flashing red means
"green blinking means GSM coverage, yellow blinking - missed reminder or alarm clock signal, permanent yellow - recharging, green - the battery is full, red blinking means greatly discharged battery, pale blue blinking - Bluetooth is on"
I think one of your batteries is dead, and if you have already replaced to LiIon battery then you'll probably have to try to replace the NiMh one inside. I cant think of anything else to try
Battery????
Damn!
I think I have a hardware problem! I have 2 batteries: one brand new and the old one. Both not working! Moreover they're not charging! They suppose to charge when I put PDA into the craddle or directly plug to AC charger but they aren't.
No diode is flashing during charging. Damn.
I will try to borrow one battery from one of my friend just to check if this is it!
I will let you know later on.
If I recall correctly, the charging led does not light up in bootloader mode. I maybe wrong though. I think you should try to check the voltage in the LiIon battery to determine if they are being charged.
Also you never mentioned checking the backup NiMh battery. I believe that the NiMh battery is required to power up of the ipaq as well so it may be the cause of your ipaq dying after starting up.
NiMh backup battery
Fortunately I know someone who can charge the battery for me. There will be no problem with that.
From the other side I'm worry about the phone charging....
Why I can't charge the battery using iPAQ?
Next you mentioned about "NiMh battery". I'm sorry for my ignorance but what is that?
Is it secondary battery ?????
Is there any way to charge or replace it? Is it pluggable battery? Where is located?
Yes there is a secondary battery. However, I do not know where it is either.
Here is an example from a different PDA
http://paulstravelpictures.com/HP-iPAQ-HX4700-PDA-Backup-Battery-Replacement-Guide/index.html
If you want to open up your IPAQ do it at your OWN RISK!

Commadnnos,
Sound like your 6515 has battery charging problem. If the charging failed, even you have brand new battery, it won't be charged at all.
Since you have two batteries, you might want to buy a external battery charger to prove those two batteries are good.
I think the charge circuit is in the second PCB board which under the keyboard inside your 6515; if those batteries are good, you might want to buy a dead 6515 and replace it by yourself...
Cheers,

Well Well Well ..... it is getting wormer. Many thanks to everyone who are still trying to help me out. Thanks again.
Is that mean the secondary battery is located under the keyboard? I saw the photos from unassembled 6515 and it looks like the secondary battery. To replace it you have to first remove 3 screws, unplug the LCD and remove whole main board.
Is that means that the charging circuit has been built in the keyboard plate?
Thank You all. Patient died......
I would like to thank everyone for help. I think we can close this thread over here.
My beetle just went out into the "digital heaven".
The HP support specialist ensured me (without any tips or hints from my side) that mainly there is a problem with passing the power from the charger to the battery which means no more no less like ".... dude your motherboard is screwed. You have to get the new one or whatever...!"
So now it is a time for selling the rest of the parts on auctions......
R.I.P (Rust In Peace)
if the red light blinks
1 your battery has problem
or
2 your battery cover has problem. The plastic part on the back of your battery cover may have broken which touchs the microswith on the mainboard.
if that microswitch is not triggered , the hw65xx,hw69xx will not turn on.
Hello everyone,
In the past week, I have decided to sell off my Nexus 4, and I went on to buy a new cheap unlocked 40$ android phone and a used water damaged Xperia Z.
I had just got the Xperia Z a few hours ago, and the guy who I bought the Z from, said a bit of water leaked into the phone about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then the phone does not turn on.
So far I have pretty much disassembled the whole thing, and noticed that all three water indicator stickers at the ports have turned red.
But I seriously cant find any water, damage or corrosion on the phone's connectors, internal frame, battery connectors, anywhere.
I guess only a few drops has entered the phone and over time the water evaporated.
Now after drying the internal components in the sun, and using 70% isopropyl wipes (I looked everywhere for 99% isopeopyl Alcohol liquid, I cant find them everywhere) I wiped it over the phone's motherboard and then used a toothbrush to remove any dirt or corrosion building up in the board.
Now the thing is that the phone does not do anything when I plug in the charger.
But when I remove the battery, and plug in the charger, and press the power button, the phone's LED blinks red for about half a second, then vibrates once and then a blue LED light comes and stays on. However nothing comes up on the screen.
I tried the Power button and Vol.Up button, but it does not do anything.
The Z's battery seems fine, as I tried it out on my Xperia C and it works perfectly there.
And I tried the Xperia C's battery on the Z. Same thing no response from the phone
What should I do?
I guess look around or a 99% alcohol solution and properly wash the Z's motherboard?
Or is this some sort of a software issue?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

To me it rather looks like the seller modified the software and hard bricked the device... My Xperia T had the same sympoms when it was hard bricked....
I would have thought the battery had shorted out

Every fault is not caused by a faulty battery. I know you fixed your phone with a replacement battery, but that is not the solution to everything.
If you had read his post properly, you would see the battery powers another device just fine. A shorted battery would surely not function at all.

Well today, I bought some distilled water and washed the phones motherboard with a toothbrush to displace any particles left on the board.
Now When I plug in the charger (with out the battery, as the phone does nothing with the battery plugged in) the phones LED blinks red and the phone vibrates once. It then goes on to repeat this process over and over again.
But my computer kinda detects my phone, as it tries to install the phones drivers. If I remember correctly the devices name on my computer is 'S1 FlashBoot'
But for the computer and Sony PC Companion to detect my phone, I have to remove the battery ribbon to let the phone start up on USB power, and then reinsert the battery ribbon when the phone vibrates and flashes its LED once, and then I have to remove the Button ribbon since, for some reason if the button ribbon and the battery ribbon is connected at the same time the phone shuts off.
Sony's PC software detects my phone, but since I cant press the power button due to the removal of the button ribbon from the motherboard, I cant repair my phone using the software.
Maybe theres something wrong with the power button/ribbon is having a few issues?
I also found some corrosion bottom right hand corner under the network antenna, and a severely corroded 3 segment ribbon, where 2 out of 3 segments were non functional due to corrosion,. As I tried to open the connector, I sneezed and accidentally ripped it.
Dammit.
It didn't work before I ripped it, so I wonder if I somehow fix this ribbon would it help solve a few of the above issues with my phone?
What does this small dinky ribbon do, anyways?

Found this post through google while looking for a solution for my Xperia Z.
My first experia also had the same problem, sort of. The battery would jump from 90% to 60%, then 73%, then 20%, then 71% and so forth.
I decided to update the system software, to which it turned off during the process. The OS became faulty, and it rebooted all the time, showing a weak red light, then a strong red light, turn on, turn off and so on. The authorized service replaced my battery, but I guess that's not your problem in this case, and I doubt it that it's a faulty OS. Because even with a faulty OS, it would atleast show the Sony or Xperia logo.
Now I have the same starting issues and I blame the ribbons I guess, since when I press it the right way, it suddenly accepts charge and boots up. Replace the ribbons, and you might be fine. Guess there's some short circuit.
Hi,
i send my phone down the river and probably killed it. backplate was broken and charging lid as well, there is no warranty any more.
i dried it for a week in a box covered with rice and tried to turn it on afterwards. No reactions on buttons, but after i plugged in the charger, the LED got red and Display turned on showing the "Sony" Screen. after a second or two LED and screen went black and the procedure started again. and again. after a few repetitions i put the plug away. so i didn't charge the phone any longer than ~5min and have not plugged it to the PC.
first question is if someone has encountered the same symptomes and can give a statement of chance to revive the phone. Second one is: Where to start? there are lots of guides to disassemble the phone, thats not a problem i think, i have all the tools i need and a little bit technical knowhow. I want to start checking the battery, pretty shure its dead. afterwards i want to check the board for signs of corrosion. but then?
grateful for any tipps, especialy want to know whats the real death sentence for a water damaged phone. after i have seen the screen working i thought main functionality is there and only the battery died.

I would leave it plugged in and see if you can build up any sort of charge in the battery. It seems that changing the battery would be an obvious first step, if you can get enough charge in the phone to fire up the mainboard, then you will see what else needs to be changed. leave it plugged into a charger for 24 hours.
Do you want to repair it to salvage what data is on the phone or is it financial reasons? tbh the cost of new mainboard and battery, plus replacement back screen is going to be more than a second hand phone off ebay. If it's a science project then bravo, not enough people try to rescue thier old kit from the bin, but I'm saying there are easier options than pulling it apart.
Having never pulled a phone apart myself I can't really offer any more advice, but you might want to drop @Chamelleon a PM, as he regularly contributes with hardware fixes and knows his stuff.
its more about financial reasons, data is all backed up. Buying a new phone should be the last option. i want to repair it cause i like repairing things and i want to make clear that the phone is absolutely dead or not. i dont think i would buy a new mainboard/display/battery if i am not completely shure that this will fix all problems. in this case id rather buy a new phone.
i am a bit afraid that if i charge the battery for 24h and still have a circuit on the motherboard i will completely destroy it.

A week in rice in a warm place means there's no moisture in the phone.
The phone won't be damaged by trying to charge the battery and you need to find out if there's anything working from a full charge.
I recently had a waterdamage too. I took it apart and i saw that there was some corrosion on the board by the display connector. I put the mainboard in isopropyl alcohol (you can get that in the pharmacy). I carefully cleaned the affected part with a soft toothbrush and let it dry for a while. And now my phone is back a life and everything works as it should
Good Luck!

Well, turns out this guy is right. Phone is working after charging. Vibration is dead and there are some residues of the wather in or behind the display, but nothing else i can find now. i think i will still disassemble the phone, and clean all parts. Maybe i will replace the vibration motor, but i think i can live without one...
Hi everyone,
I'm really hoping someone can help me.
I have a Samsung galaxy tab s2 8inch. It is the SM-T710.
It was working fine playing music on a Bluetooth speaker system then the battery died.
Tried to charge it and it was acting funny, said it was charging then got to one or two percent and i attempted to power on while the device is on charge and it powered on then turned off within a few seconds.
Let the tablet charge for a while now and its not really going up and the screen has gone off and its not turning on and i now notice its getting really hot at the bottom part of the screen slightly above the home button.
Removed the charger and left it for one hour, then came back and tried with a different new genuine Samsung charger and cable, and still getting extremely hot within a few 5 - 10 seconds just above the home button.
Unplugged it and left it till the next day and attempted to charge it again same thing.
I though it could be either: A faulty battery or A faulty Micro USB charging port flex (possibly short circuiting).
Now Ive opened up the whole device and taken apart every item on the mother board following a tear down video on YouTube.
I then connected a brand new genuine battery to the board and removed the old one, and the device was still overheating however this time i could pin point the exact source of heat on the motherboard which i will circle on an image but cant attach to this post as i need ten posts.
The images are on my public google drive but i cannot share the links here any ideas?
I then thought the micro USB charging port flex is causing a short circuit and so i completely disconnected that and the overheating problem still occurred.
Then i disconnected each and every component one by one and still the same thing on the motherboard keeps overheating excessively within seconds of connecting the battery to the motherboard.
Now Ive completely removed the motherboard from the frame and Ive connected the battery to it and same overheating issue.
Now Ive reconnected just the micro USB charging port back to the motherboard and attempted to plug a charging cable into the port and exactly the same thing still overheating excessively.
I really do not want to replace my motherboard simply because of the data on the device etc.
Can someone please tell me what the red circled item is in my image so i know what is overheating!
Could it be the CPU?
Is there ANY other way to replace JUST that part, even in china? Can anyone advise or help me?
Many thanks to the people who patiently read this and helped.

I guess the motherboard got corrupted
First off, do not boot up an almost empty device. Second, it is entirely normal that the bottom area (charging port, home button etc) gets hot while charging. It will fade after the battery got some essential energy. Third, do not deplete the battery completely, if possible. In the long run it may damage the longevity of the battery.
Was there ever a solution to this issue? I'm having the same problem.
Hi guys,
I had to change both display incl. frame and battery because a barbell fell on my Mi9. This bent the phone at the place of the battery and completely destroyed the display.
I was able to repair the phone quickly, but unfortunatly I did not glue the new battery. Now I was mountain biking and due to the vibrations the battery was torn from the mainboard and parts of the battery cable got stuck in the connector. I had these parts removed carefully by a watchmaker and he assured me that the connerctor looks undamaged.
But now I have the problem that the phone won't start when I insert the old (minimally) bent battery. It does not respond to any input. Only when I charge it, the LED is blinking slowly and the MI Start logo appears for 1/4 second. This process is repeated continuously. The battery also warms up slightly, showing me that it is being charged and that the connection is basically established.
Can you detect a defect on the board by this error description or is this a "typical" battery problem? Or does this error description look familiar to you otherwise?
Thanks for all suggestions,
Mike
Well I'd say that will be a hard problem to diagnose without knowing what to look for, and I definitely don't know but what I'd suggest so you can rule out the battery problem is to try a different battery in the phone and see if you get the same response. If it works happy days problem solved. If not it is more than likely a main board problem or charging connector.
