As the title says, after update i am not able to use wifi. Connects and disconnects periodically. I thought that data connection may on so switched off mobile data off, but still same. I had factory reset also, no use. Can anybody give me any insight as to how to solve this problem?
No one know the solution to fix this issue?
I got the solution. change the wifi security settings in your router. change it from wep to wpa personal. Now my wifi is not disconnecting. O course you will need to change the password.and restart both your router and phone after changing I got the solution from lenovo forum

Hi All,
I have a weird problem with my captivate of not connecting to my home network. Let me start by telling that I have searched the solutions and tried doing everything except full factory reset. I have rebooted the phone, done reset on my router (Wifi was working just fine earlier.. so I think settings was not an issue. But I still did it), I removed the file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and let it regenerate it. Captivate displays "Obtaining IP Address" and it just stays there. I also see that IP address is being assigned to captivate in my router
Captivate is rooted stock Froyo
Router security: WEP
form the Wifi list, I found one unsecured network and captivate connects to that router just fine (signals are very week though...). I tried removing the security on my router but it still stuck on "Obtaining IP address".
Can you please please help me?? As I mentioned earlier, It was working just fine and suddenly stopped working two days back.
These all app updates are eating away my limited data of 200M.
Thanks a millian.
What's your router model ?
What channel are you running on ?
Are others routers close to you running on the same channel ?
Have you tried another channel ?
Did you try WPA2 ?
Could be incompatibility with your router. That happened to me before with my old router. It didn't work with some cell phone wifi devices.

Try using the app "FXR." I had the same issue a couple times and this app seemed to fix it. It took a few tries though. I think it might be a router problem. I use the Linksys wrt54g.
You could also try assigning a static IP address to your device on the router side, and then telling your phone to use that address. I've used that in the past to some success.
As a test, have you tried (temporarily) disabling the security on your router to see if it connects?
I have a similar problem since upgrading to the past 3 nightlies. My phone sees and connects to my home network and says it has strong signal, but when I try to access Market or Internet it says there's a network error and I can't get thru. My two computers (one hard wired and one wi-fi) don't seem to have any problem hooking in to the internet, just my SGS1

Does the 'FXR' app set up IP addresses?
The App didn't work for me. I tried that yesterday. I was reading the similar problems on some other site yesterday and I found the following that solved my issue. In case someone like me still struggling with the WiFi problem.
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
I am really glad that my WiFi is working back again.
FYI, I'd change the WEP to WPA.

Where do you go to change that setting? I've been all thru the wi-fi settings and advanced settings, but didn't see anything that referred to WEP or WPA.
Just realized we're talking now about the router, not the phone, duh!
Yes, I certainly need to bump up the security settings on my router.

I used root explorer, but could not locate the files you mentioned. Directories were there just not files. I'm still exploring the router side. Thanks for the info tho.

After that, it disconect, and very often after that, and after 15 minute, it goes very strange, in setting says it connect to my wifi, but i can not access the internet?? I already tried full wipe and again the same problem i have,
I thought it was the rom, after i install every diferent rom,is just the same problem with WPA2 secured networks. although i have tried with open wifi it goes fine?
Also i have change the ip setting using static ip,Gateway, and dns i have pairing with my wifi router, doesnt work either, it keeps disconect after a while.
Whats wrong with WPA2 secured networks?
I have other phone that is N****, and its wifi is normal, very fast too in WPA2,but my xperia very slow, often disconnect.

I have been having this strange wifi problem lately.. I am not able to connect to my home wifi network.
It says obtaining IP address but never connects.. This problem only occurred recently.. I was able use my home wifi before.
After googling around, i tried the following.
1. I went to advanced setting and used static IP. This time it got connected. But i was not able to connect to internet.
2. Did a factory reset.. Then flashed stock using ODIN. Still no luck.
3. I changed the encryption to WPA-PSK... Didnt work.
Can somebody help with this issue please?

Hmm..did u flash any kernel?
I had this problem when I tried to update busybox. But since you have re-flashed stock.
Are you sure its a problem on your phone and not with the router? Try connecting to a different router.
Sent from my GALAXY Ace.
Remove the WiFi connection from your phone, click on forget.
On your router, from the configuration page, change the WiFi security to open then try connecting using phone.
If it works then remove connection from phone again (click forget), and configure your router to WPA or any other such algorithm. Then connect again.
My brother has this problem, have you tried other wifi networks? It may be able to connect to other routers. What does it say after "obtaining ip address", does it connect or do you get disconnected?

Hey bro , i tried what you say and there is no result unfortunately
Hello
After the 4.4.2 OTA I can't connect to WiFi.
I deleted the settings and entered them new.
I did set the WiFi to only 2.4Ghz.
I did a WiFi router reset even all other devices do work.
I have a MAC address in the WiFi settings.
Any other idea?
I run pure Sprint stock, no root, nothing.
Regards
Highc
That is really strange. You might look at advanced wifi settings and see if something is checked that could be preventing connection.
Try resetting your router back to stock and deleting the saved router profile from your phone. Had a similar issue with my GS2 years ago and this solved my issue. Hope it helps.

You can also try doing another factory reset.
This has worked for me (although not sure why).
My Wi-Fi has been touch and go since the update. One minute it's great, another it's not connecting to the router. Didn't have any issues before the update. I'm not really sure what's going on. I've reset the router with no change. The rest of my devices on the router haven't had any issues either.

What router are you trying to connect to? I have issue connecting to a Vonage D-Link router. But I can easily connect to a Netgear router that is in another part of the house. Flash back to a 4.3 ROM, or CM11 and it's fine connecting to the D-Link.
I have a AVM FritzBox. But I will try a factory reset in the near future.
no success
Found the issue without a factory reset.
The WiFi network I wanted to connect to has had a "?" in its SSID name.
After removing the "?" in the SSID name the device connects to WiFi.
I can repeat that error.
Solved with OTA 4.06.651.9

Hi i am having a strange problem with my phone connecting to my WiFi at home on my phone. I find it will not stay connected to my router. I put the WPA2 code in and my phone says connected then it forgets the network and asks me for the code again. My phone connects to WiFi at work so i thought it was my router but my computer and Xbox work fine still on-line. It just seem to be a problem between my phone and router. I have tried lots of things from hard resetting my phone to changing the security on my router and resetting it I am now at the point where i am at a loss and have no idea how to resolve my problem. I have updated the software on my phone but still no joy Does anyone out there have the same problem or able to advise
Thanks
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant for you, so I will have your thread moved to your device section. ?

I'm not sure but I read somewhere this is a bug in the htc software. You can fix it by having a wpa code shorter the 6 characters I believe. Or maybe try changing to other wifi security protocol

If your phone connects at work with no problems, than its not the phone. The problem will be between the connection to your router. If changing protocol dint work, you can try open network (No pass, just for testing) if connects then its the security.
You can also check in wi-fi advance settings "wi-fi frequency band" its set to auto.
