A solution for heavy gaming on Xperia SP? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using cm12.1, tried asphalt 8 and it force closes even on medium graphics, I changed to stock .207 and game force closes on high graphics, even with greenify hibernating alot of apps, the only way is reboot every time before start the game.
Already tried OmniX kitkat, and it hangs well rebooting one time per day but it heats alot and can't play 60fps videos on youtube, I can't consider for daily drive.
Any tips for heavy gaming on our bugged device?

You can't.
Xperia SP's RAM is 1GB. And the device itself is marketed as midrange.
You won't try to run Crysis at high settings on a Pentium 2 with 256MB RAM, would you?

What? No need to sorry!
It's really a fact we need to accept. I could barely use keyboard in Clash of Clans and sometimes my SimCity game crashes!
And NFS No Limits, once you get your car doing great speeds, it will crash instantly
Quite a bummer, apart from the low RAM, this thing has a pack of a GPU and CPU power

Yes, sad thing, initially I bought this device thinking on games first, I could play nova 3 and games like this with no problem, but asphalt 8 and newer games broke my heart

I play Asphalt8. On some tracks it's the game has some freezes, but most of the time its playable.
I run AdrianDC's CM 12.1, debloated (froze many system apps), and a lot of apps greenified.
I typically have 400MB free RAM with no apps running.

can you tell me whats apps you greenified and frozen?
and this cm12.1 from adrian is the official or unnoficial?
you really frozen whatsapp and email apps too?

Frozen (via titanium backup) :
Calendar (I use aCalendar+)
CyanogenMod Setup Wizard
Android Setup Wizard
AOSP Keyboard (I use swiftkey)
cLock
CM Updater
com.android.SMSPush (don't know what this is, but I still get SMS and it was running 100% of the time as background app)
com.google.android.partnersetup
Cell Broadcast
Themes provider (I don't use them)
Deskclock
Soundrecorder
Music (Cyanogenmod's eleven)
FM Radio
CM bug report
Exchange Services
Print spooler
NFC Tags
CM Themes
Trebuchet (I use Nova Launcher and it was still running in the background)
Greenified : allmost everything but needed background apps. So it's easier to tell what's not greenified :
WhatsApp
Llama
OneFootball
Swiftkey
aCalendar+
Google
FolderMount
Kernel Adiutor
Waze

No, I use the free version of Greenify so no system apps are greenified. Those that I don't use are frozen, the other ones are just running. I installed micro Gapps package so there are not many system apps.
Oh, you remind me that I believe I moved some system apps to user apps so that I could Greenify them.
Probably Google Music and Google Maps.
I am running AdriandDC's unofficial from late february, currently updating to it's latest unofficial (03272016).

thanks, you was helpful

You're welcome.
After verification, I used the nano gapps package, not micro.

you think the official one will hang well as the adrian's one or the performance is clearly different?

In AdrianDC's there is ZRam enabled by default, and that makes all the difference for Asphalt8.
FC's in Asphalt are due to low memory, ZRam is a must.

i'm on adrian cm13 actually, you think I should turn to cm12.1 or just greenify and freeze all on cm13?

I can't tell you, I never tried CM13.
Users seem to be happy with it's performance, but I don't know if they are gaming on it.

You can use swap for increase your RaM and play heavy games
sent from Xperia™ SP | Android 5.1

ZRam is swap. It's in RAM, but it's swap.

5.0.6 via kang
Just did a full restart so I can get the full picture, this is what is open, sorted into categories of stuff which does have services (which im happy with), those with services (which i think ive dissabled and shouldnt be there), those with no services which shouldnt be there:
services and happy:
HTC IME mod
live wallpapers
email
calendar
auto memory manager
news and weather
google mail
music
setcpu
3g watchdog
juice defender + plotter
beautiful widgets
engaget
helixlauncher
taskiller [what im looking at it with]
services and not happy:
clock
bluetooth share
cm updater (ive turned it to manual only)
bluetooth file transfer
finance (ive told it NOT to update, i dont use it really)
camera (does it need to sit open in the background?)
notes
klaxon
cachemate
appbrain market sync
mp3 store
weatherbug elite
no service and dont want:
shopsavy
police stream
Does anyone know of any program i can use to directly stop these unwanted apps to stop running every time, or any individual information on the programs?
cheers
Why do you not want them preloaded?
The main reason im being such a memory whore is because my launcher lags like crazy under 70-80mb. I have 250ish apps, and see many people with a similar setup demonstrating on youtube, and theirs is instantly responsive, as is mine >120mb free. If I leave all these apps etc free, i end up on ~40mb which makes my old nokia 6300 looks like flash gordon compared to my launcher :/
Re: Apps seem to open themselve sin the background when they
Android preloads apps into its memory for fast load times.
Just because an app is loaded does not mean it is using any resources. They're usually just sitting there idle. Android also frees up memory as needed.
That said, I've seen apps that can control what apps you never want preloaded. Search around on the market.
Looks like the slowdowns from a lack of ram still exist. I hope froyo will help with this. This problem makes the lower end android phones run slow.

42k antutu after removing Samsung apps.

Hi in not sure what's going on but after I removed all Samsung apps including S health and voice my phone is super snap and fast as hell also I went from 32k - 34k on antutu to 41895.
Is this normal and I just found out?
Even Facebook takes half the time to load than before and some shatter in San andreas gta is removed. Also I get the highest gpu score in antutu that exists even by phones with almost 43k antutu.
I hope I didn't meshed up anything and my phone dies... But what damage could I have done by just removing apps and services?
Good thing is I have them all at the app master recycle bin.
I think you updated to Antutu 5 the scores are different from the previous version 4 that is why.

Just freeze the apps/widgets you don`t need with Titanium Backup or use the debloat script from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/mod-smart-debloater-t2802034. Make a nandroid backup first though.

Ok so here it is, first I uninstalled all the google apps except play store and YouTube because I don't use anything else.
And klms agent,s voice, Knox Dar, Knox notification manager, Knox, baby cry detection, Knox setup wizard client,s health service,s health, ant hall service, ant+ plugin service, ant radio service,s finder, Samsung convert to speech mechanism, geo news, my magazine, Samsung apps, chat on, flip board, google music, google search, Polaris office, hang outs,g mail , play games, drive, google convert to text, google+, kids operation and google play movies.
That's allot haha but after some time a find out that I don't use them.
Touchwizz is good but so slow next to pac rom ^^
Look my screenshots, just scored 45 000.
That's great! but does the Pac rom do any kind of overclock or it does better management?
I set my CPU frequency at 2764 Ghz so it's overclocked. Same for my GPU. It's an aosp rom, I think the better smoothness is due to small use of background apk's.
More ram, OC and KT kernel can justify that score but it work so great, without OC too.. I think TW debloated and PAC (who need optimize again) are now similar

Hi,
Thanks for the list, indeed it's quite a lot. But if you don't use em and they work. Why not?
I see a difference in speed after removing some of the apps. I can't remove all the apps from Google because I use them for my personal and business life. But with Samsung Apps gone it is a full difference..
Thanks!
yes it makes a difference because Samsung apps always run in the background even if you don't see them, and if you install tiraniun to freeze them you still have titanium to run and keep them stopped.
now the phone is faster.

I have most of the samsung aps installed on my phone and i am getting speeds that average between 40,000 and 42600 in Antutu. My kernel is Ktnoonz and I do not over clock - I don't think the samsung apps have had any impact on benchmarks scores for me - maybe they do for you - but it hasn't effected my phone's performace at all as far as I can tell...
it's not that much for the antutu since we mention before that it's probably the switch from 4 to 5 antutu but it's the speed increase and performance in real life use.
Im getting 43.500 with all samsung apps. (exynos octa)
I'm getting over 44000 with cm11...
Please why don't you buy a 2009 Nokia stead?

True i just ran a benchmark of 43786
Exciting. Benchmarks on a cell phone. About as useful as revving your engine at a red light.
Got this earlier today running cm11 with kt kernel @300-2764 MHz

[Q] Weird RAM Managment.

Hi,
I have L90 D405n. I have a stock 4.4.2 LG ROM.
I also have installed more than a dozen apps. When I start my phone I have about 200MB free RAM memory. In the next 36h of constant work I have less and less free memory.
Right now before I restarted my L90 I had less than 50MB of free RAM and my apps where in "restarting" mode (settings > apps > running).
Did anyone of you noticed somethink similar ?
That's the thing with our device - it has too little RAM. That's why I have either unnecessary apps (the ones that came with the device and cannot be uninstalled) and their notifications disabled or you could greenify them with an app called Greenify. This basically suspends all the apps (also does it automatically when you lock the device). Also, if you're rooted and have your bootloader unlocked, you could flash CM11, which is based on stock Android. That should also use less RAM as it isn't skinned.
Personally, I rarely saw RAM go below 150MB, but the aforementioned solutions should help.

Greenify works only for a while, after a few more hours my phone is still out of memory. I also tried CM but it's not working properly on my device. 1GB of RAM is definitely not too little. My brother has MyPhone Cube (Polish manufacturer) he has no Greenify and a lot of apps installed. His phone still manages to get over 500MB of free RAM with all the apps kept in memory. Free memory doesn't shrinks with time on his phone.
So it's definitely a poor RAM managment solutions in L90 and a lots of crappy apps run in background. I can provide logcat and all the necessary log's if someone would like to look into it.
P.S. What is Lost RAM ?
I have over 70MB right now.

Then again, it runs almost pure stock Android, while L90 is pretty heavily skinned. Yeah, Greenify is a bet in this case. I myself had it working well in some cases and not so well in other.
I tried (and suggested) probably a good majority of the solutions there are, so it might be up to LG to figure this out (if they're aware of it). But rest assured, you're not the only one with RAM issues. If it weren't for them, it'd probably be an even better device.

CarbonROM worked very nice on my phone but it had serious problem with theme engine (it's a ****ty function) and it disables my clock alarm causing SystemUI force close. Fonts on any CustomROM aren't that sharp like in stock, camera performance and quality is a lot worse and entirely useless IR because it's not working at all. It's also quieter than stock.
I don't understand why manufacturers are stubborn and they are forcing their own overlays. Android could work as fast and stable as Windows Phone if they would start using clean Android.

THIS. I wish Google would pressure OEMs just so that they'd skin Android less. Hell, I would've gotten a Motorola or a Nexus device if I could, but I can't really buy a Motorola device where I live (unless off of Ebay or Amazon, but I guess I'm a bit worried about buying things like that there). Albeit Nexus 5 being quite a budget phone, it's still out of my league. For now.

I want performance (GT-i8190)

Dear fellow ROM-lovers
As a looong-time ROM-user, I'm still trying to find thé perfect ROM. I've used a ton of ROM's, some of them are:
STOCK: Project Noble, Virginity, Ronin
KitKat: Omni-ROM, Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, SlimRom, pretty much anything popular
Lollipop: Omni-ROM, CyanogenmodI haven't tried out Marshmellow ROM's since it's rather new.
The STOCK-ROM's are obviously the better choice when I'm talking about battery life. I really don't care about customization anymore since I've gotten to the point where only useful things matter on this old s3 mini of mine.
Nooow, to get to the point. I'm looking for the ROM with thé best performance. I don't care if it's a MIUI-ROM or anything else like that, I just want a buttery smooth phone. Ofcourse a decent battery life is kind-of required too. I was told STOCK-ROM's have the best performance in the market, but the 'buttery smoothness' is losing it's potential to be honest. Or I might ask for something that just isn't possible, in that case, I'd appreciate your opinion too.
Now it would be too much to ask for good battery life, good performance and good customization, so I'm only really asking about the first two. I've tried crossbreeder mod, putting scale animations on 0.5 in dev settings, other fly-on mods, but I'm still not really satisfied yet. If you have any other optimization-ideas, let me know.
Chrome and Snapchat are just slow like hell, other apps often take a very long time too , I'm just looking for something I don't know.
If you have any suggestions, I'm excited to hear about it!
Ty!
Edit: I also read something about the influence of governors in performance. What are the best options to go for in this type of customization?
I use Omni lollipop & freeze / delete the stuff i don't want. This gives me good ram & better performance over stock. Best performance use F-kernel but you may need to do the additional instructions in the F-Kernel Q/A thread to get Nova Thor to work. I tried it & got better performance but it was never quite stable enough for me. On FKernal lollipop i had to add the Nova Thor app & add a init.d script granting the Mali folder permissions 755 (see thread).
The issue for me with this device was the memory & multi tasks but with Omni its does the job. Also with stock the cve issues, Omni lolli more upto date.
Oh yeah if you can don't use Gplay as its a hog on older devices, just my 2 cents.

If you must use Gapps on a old device use a Pico minimal install to get the play store.

What works well in this ROM is xposed fakegapps and microG instead of gapps
I recommend stock ROM with stock kernel for best hardware compatibility and performance.
I tried several custom ROM but unfortunately (in my phone) there are some incompatibilities with the hardware. Compass is not perfectly working and the most annoying is charging was never complete to 100%. They are also uses more RAM.
I installed custom kernel (3.0.101) on stock ROM and having problem with charging. I think it is a kernel-related issue. So, I revert back to stock kernel (3.0.31) and everything came back to normal.
For better performance, try uninstalling un-needed apps (Samsung and Google apps, including Google Play Services). You can use microG GmsCore to replace Google Play Services. It even has alternative to Network Location. :good: I am also using older version of some apps because it seems to use less RAM than newer versions. Google Play Store is working with microG.
For smoother scrolling, I activate "Force GPU Rendering" in Settings > Developer options. It helps scrolling performance in Contact and Messaging apps a bit.

Yes, sounds like a good idea for speed, but a bad idea for security. Using an outdated ROM, the only protection comes from an uptodate playservices. Microg has no malware protection.

Honor 5c - RAM problem

I have my phone for about 3 months (i think) and it was working perfectly. Smooth, without any problems. I was using it for some small games (CoC) and social media (Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook). Well, it WAS working perfectly. Everytime I was clearing RAM (closing apps) it was showing that about 800-950MB of RAM were free. Now, after updating to Android 7.0 it changed. It shows about 300-400MB of RAM is free (without any app opened). I am also lagging as hell (specially in Snapchat - it freezes almost completly). I was trying to clear it anyway possoble, uninstalling apps, using stock File Manager trying to optimize system. It didn't worked.... Does anyone has similar problem and/or has some solution? Thanks...
(My first post here, don't kill me if I made some mistake, and also don't judge my English. I am from Poland )
tbh, for me android i did opposite. more ram free and 5% increase in antutu score.

More free RAM doesn't mean more performance. It's a bad habit to clear your RAM. Apps that killed will just come back and more hungry for RAM. Continuously doing this will put strain in the CPU and thus, will drain more battery.
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
I recommend uninstalling bloatware and keep minimal number of apps . This will save more ram and more juice . Dont use any task killers as they are themselves battery havvoks
