Please help, I cant pull down my status bar, - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I noticed an update for my z3 compact and done it, nothing gone wrong after that, but 2 weeks passed and i noticed i cant pull down my status bar, but the status bar can be accessible when the screen is locked or when im on landscape mode. So i assume theres no lcd or other part broken, just the system or framework got stuck somewhere. The phone is running Android 5.1.1.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help, im still Stock n not rooted. Should i consider rooting my z3c? Ummm i do try to find excuse to going back on my BingeFlashing lol
thanks.

Simply Factory reset your device and the Lockscreen should be working just fine

Might be a capacitative sensor issue.
Try entering the service menu (bring up the phone dialpad and enter *#*#7378423#*#* ), then select Service Test -> Touch Screen.
See if you can touch and draw to the top edge of the screen. If not, you might have a faulty capacitative sensor (it's eligible for warranty replacement).

Hi all
Thanks for the quick reply. Well i had done the factory reset suggested above and the problem still persist.
Try inputing the Z3c Secret code above. And i cant really assume its ok or not. Since i cant draw until the top part which is the location of the status bar, but on the other hand, well i cant draw untill the bottom part which the home n back area as well.

I had a similar problem with my z3c recently and I sent the phone for repair and it was covererd by warranty

Ummm somehow i fixed this issue by using a hairdryer on the top part of the screen,turn my z3c off and i blow it for like 10 too 15 mins or untill it feel heated abit, next put it on a air proof container with some hard salt inside well it suck moisture if ur guessing. Let it under the sun for like half day. Come back home n turn it on, and its normal again......... man i feel weird. Or maybe my screen got some water inside? I dunno

i have same problem

Anyone who cannot swipe down notifications or quick settings, due to a broken digitiser, can follow these instructions:
[emoji7]
Download 'All in one Gestures' app from the playstore.
Go to the 'SWIPE' tab.
Enable.
Under 'Edges' , select 'Top Area'.
Then via the apps settings, choose 'Personalization'.
Now under 'Swipe Area', go into 'Edge Preference.
Make 'Opacity' 0%
With 'Edge Sensitivity' start from 0% and keep moving the slide left until the swipe down works, mine is set at 90px.
'Edge Width' 100%
'Swipe Distance' 0%
Now under 'Touch Feedback' turn off both 'Toast Message' and 'Animation'.
Then turn down 'Vibration Intensity' to '0'
Done.
You now have the screen functioning as normal.

I have the same problem, and looking in some Italian forum it's a common problem.
My touch screen started not work in up right edge. After some time in down left one (I can't use back and hone button on the nav bar) and in the end all the top first 4mm stopped working.
This is the touchscreen test in the three moments

Obviously this started a couple weeks after the warranty has expired.
Now I'm using 'j touch' app to have a floating button with gesture and it's pretty good.
I will try the that you handed suggested...
There is anything else that I can do to resolve the problem? But I think is only hardware failure

About 10 mins ago I was in the middle of typing out a text message then the screen went like this:

It's very white, but you can make out some text and icons, the touch screen still works.
I'm using the original O2 ROM on my O2 XDA Stellar, and have never flashed the ROM or HardSPL (Yet!).
i tried booting into the bootloader but the screen is still like that, so I presume this is not a software issue.
Any suggestions before I call O2 for a replacement?
EDIT: I must point out that the screen is still at it's proper brightness, it is just mostly white! Kind of inverted infact.

No way! What device is yours, the Stellar?
Just tried a hard reset with no joy.
About to call O2. Have you done anything bout it yet?
My device is an Italian HTC TyTN II.
I also tried with an Hard Reset, but nothing.......
I sent it to service center.......
Well I've called up O2, who were very good. Because I have had the phone for less than 28 days, they are sending me out a brand new one immediately, and I just swap the broken one with the new one at the door when it arrives!
Same thing exactly happened to me tonight. I guess it's a hardware problem. I'll be calling AT&T tomorrow.
Well I've received my replacement fine. O2 sent it straight out, next day delivery, swapped it at the door.
One interesting thing I have discovered is that the keyboard and external side keys are much better than in my old one. I had initially complained about them,the keyboard was not very responsive, some keys hardly clicked and it was hard to tell if you had actually pressed them sometimes. The new one is almost perfect!
same here humm this is gonna suck now.. anyone know how to return att phone with out an account
Well, my phone started doing that same thing last night.
I bought my Tilt about six months ago and it has been the greatest phone I've ever had.
Last night after touching the Contacts icon at the bottom right corner of the screen the whole screen turned very white just like the photos posted on the first post of this thread. I can still read the text, but the screen is too bright even though it is set to the lower brightness level. If I increase the brightness it gets almost unreadable.
I slided out and tilted the front and it came back to normal. It hapenned again and I did some very small hits with the tip of my finger and it came back to normal. It happened like 5 more times and got fixed back with some small hits with the fingers. However, after the sixth time it has not come back to normal.
It seems to me like some bad or broken contact, specially because it seems to happen when I touch the bottom right corner. I don't think reloading any software will fix this.
Whatever the problem is I will have to solve it myself since I bought this phone over Ebay and mailed down to me to Costa Rica.
I'm planning on opening the front and examining the display today in the afternoon. If anyone has some tips to share with me on this particular problem or on how to open the thing I will really appreciate them.
I did open my Tilt today as well as another good working one from a friend of mine.
The display from the working Tilt works just fine in my phone while my display does the same too bright behaviour.
Looks like a defective display to me. I already ordered a replacement.

urgent please help -screen issue

Hello,
I've had my tilt for less than a year now. Today, my screen, when I turned it on, shook and while it was shacking, it was showing multiple lines on the screen. At the end, the screen was complete white. I can still make/receive calls, however, I wouldn't know what's going on since the screen was white. It seems to me it was a loose connection???? It got me extremely worried. I took off the battery, made a hard-reset, tried to physically move the screen, non worked. all of a sudden, the screen was fine. Later today, it happened again.
Can anyone please explain this problem to me and how to fix it. I would really appreciate that...
Thank you
Not sure what "shacked" means.
But given you are under 1 year, you probably have a warranty. Would be best to try and get a warranty exchange.
To have you dig around inside checking connection and voiding your warranty, would not be wise with an active warranty.

Ok, Find mikechannon's disassembly guides and wiggle all your connections. Sounds like a loose connection to me.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I dismantaled my device and made sure all the connections are fine. The problem still appears....
Ok Next Thing it, The LCD panel is "dieing" you will probably need to replace it.

I noticed that when it happens, if I touched the OK and the end call button together, it would sometimes solve the issue. I would have to do it several times though. Is that any hint? are there screen related connections underneath those buttons?
Thank you for your continuing support, much appreciated!
OK, I've noticed that once I click on the call button, the white screen shows up. As I said, I dismantled my device and checked all the connections. However, I didn't go further than the 15th page, i didn't go further because I though that it wasn't necessary.. That's the websites of the tutorial I followed:

OK, I went further and was able to see the screen ribbon. I made sure the connections are in tight. However, after putting everything back, the problem still persist. Now, I'll be more than happy to buy a new screen IF it solves the problem... Please correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't seem more like a connection problem; maybe the chip that holds the ribbon cable is loose? In this case, it would need soldering???
Moreover, I noticed that the screen ribbon is underneath the talk button. Like I said before, touching the talk button solves the white screen*. Isn't that more proof that its not a screen issue?
I am very grateful for any advice...
Thank you
* Before completely dismantling the phone, it used to be touching the talk button brings the white screen problem, now its the opposite

Screen dies when closed - help requested

I have an HTC Dream/G1 that's having a rather odd issue. When the screen is flipped open, it appears to behave exactly as it should. When the screen is closed however, the display becomes a mess of vertical lines (or sometimes just fades to black) and does not respond.
One need only "sleep" the phone and "wake" it after flipping the screen up to bring it back to normal operation. This only lasts until the phone is again closed. I've included a couple of screen captures to help illustrate the issue. I've searched and searched and found absolutely nothing about this problem anywhere.
I'm currently running Firmware 1.6, CyanogenMod-4.2.7.1 with Cyanogen recovery. Everything was working fine and the phone suffered no trauma prior to this issue presenting itself. It literally happened while the phone was sitting idle on a coffee table. I've tried reflashing the phone (including reverting to Dreaimg.nbh and starting "from scratch") to no avail.
It does not appear to be an issue with the ribbon cable (no amount of flexing the cable or moving the screen has any effect). The display behaves properly throughout its movement up until the exact point at which it switches to "closed" functionality (approximately 80% closed). It appears to be something related to the hardware after it switches to "closed mode". My shot-in-the-dark guess is some form of chip-failure related to the phone's orientation detection as the vertical lines do not change regardless of orientation or touch-input. Again, that is just a guess.
If no one here has any recommendations, I will likely perform exploratory surgery and barring any obvious hardware failures, will likely be forced to replace the phone. If I do manage to resolve the issue (with or without outside help) I will surely assemble a how-to so others may resolve the issue in the future.
Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions, and for existing in the first place. You are the reason technology is fun.
EDIT - As pjcforpres kindly pointed out, I neglected to include the fact that the display failure is present regardless of boot state. It behaves this way upon initial "G1 screen" boot and even in the recovery console. This is appears to be further support for the idea that it is indeed a hardware failure.

Does it do this while in recovery/boot loader as well? Is there anyway when closed to get it to work correctly?(I think your answer will be 'no' but just double checking)...
Oh wow, I can't believe I forgot to include that important bit of information. Yes, the phone behaves this way regardless of boot-state. Even with the initial "G1" screen displayed or in recovery mode, closing the screen brings about the display failure. No amount or configuration of screen or button operation seems to bring about the appropriate closed screen behavior. I will edit my original post with this information if I can. Thanks for looking and responding!
I didn't read your post
But my dads g1 did this.
It's a hardware ribbon, not software.
Go get a return or exchange for a new g1 because yours is defective.
That makes me think hardware then... not sure what though? Like you were saying, if there is an open/close switch of sorts that would be my bet. It could be the flex cable as well, and when it close that much it gets pinched, and happens to coincide with the orientation flip. But then it wouldn't take sleep and unsleep to go back right when opened, I would think... so we are back to it probably being the orientation sensor switch being funky like a monkey.
Well, I just tore it completely apart and put it back together to no avail. I made the assumption that the LCD flex cable was not the cause because of the behavior (only happening at a precise position, having to sleep then wake the phone to recover, etc...). It appears, however, that this assumption was incorrect. On Icebergxx's suggestion I decided to give it another look. I wedged a tool in against the cable and with various forceful flexing I can recreate the issue even with the screen fully extended. Luckily it appears the LCD flex cable is available on ebay for $24. Thank you so much for your responses. I'll dig around for a flex cable replacement guide, if a sufficient one does not yet exist, I will take the opportunity to share. Thanks again!
You're so handy its admirable haha good luck buddy glad to have helped.
Happy to hear it is just the flex cable! I was worried with the way it was acting it was something worse, just the whole not coming back to life when opened without sleeping then un-sleeping.

[Q] Anyone else had this screen fault?

Charged my G Watch R last night as I always do and put it on this morning. Noticed at my breakfast meeting that it had froze earlier on 6am when it was now gone 7.
Pressed and held the power button for 8 seconds to restart and now just get this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It's still working underneath as it vibrates with notifications and calls etc.
UPDATE: Randomly as I'm writing this post the screen comes back to the normal face, I have a go to flick through my notifications then it freezes on email and won't move even when the power button is pressed but again is vibrating on notifications.
Obviously it will need to go back but wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?
Thanks
Try a full reset before returning it.

In the brief moments the screen returned to normal I managed to initiate a factory reset, it rebooted with the LG logo and set back up but within minutes it went back to how it is in the photo.

My LG G2. Same situation. I just have to whack it on a table a once or twice and it goes back to normal.
I had that pixelated screen popping up once, while I was testing some heavy customisations on the watch maker app ... since I'm using faces with less objects I did not saw that weird screen.
I suggest to do a factory reset or to choose one of the default watch faces ... anyway, something else than what has been on when that stuff occurred.
I had the same issue with my first one
Mine did this after getting fully charged, i had it next to me on the table ready to be strapped on when it happened.
I am amazed you could reboot, mine did not even responded to the main button any more, got really hot also.
after an hour in the box (ready to be send off back to the retailer) it did a spontaneous reset, and showed 5% battery left. I turned it off and send it back, my second one developed the blinking issue in dimmed state, so also back, now on my third one. I do hope this one will be all right, i love it dearly! The recessed screen prevents the random activations i had with the LG G, bloody annoying when playing music with Music Boss, pause/play every few seconds when my sleeve touched the screen..
I wanted to post the photo of the crashed screen, but i am not allowed yet
Thanks for all the replies.

I'm not sure if it might be an LG thing but I had the EXACT same thing start happening with my Nexus 5 a couple of weeks ago. The screen would freeze and be pixilated but the device would be working and ring and vibrate for notifications. I don't know what triggered it but coincidentally it was right after the lollipop update that it started to happen. A reboot usually (but not always) solved it. LG replaced the device as it was still under warranty.
Sent from my Oneplus One using XDA Free mobile mobile app.
Huh, that sounds troubling, but then again, this is the first time i hear of this on the Nexus 5, so maybe it is a software problem after all, I hope the soon to be release 5.0.2 will fix this, at least it seems to fix the battery problems some seem to have after the 5.0 update and the performance issues some see on the Nexus 7 slabs.
But as LG has swapped your N5 for a new one, i am very afraid they have a real quality issue in their production line!

"Hi Guys,
I've read this post a while ago, and I tried everything you said, but non of them worked. I have Samsung Galaxy S6, Gold, 128GB. Not edge. So, I read a lot of articles on the net and youtube. But my cell phone kept restarting from time to time and no warnings, sometimes it's just turn itself off without any warning. Most of the time I keep it on my desk where I work and suddenly it's making the song of rebooting or sometimes I find it just turned off, it could be deep sleep I never knew which of which. I tried every single solution to solve this, made back up, Restore factory defaults and it kept doing it.Probably you would say, uninstall apps that are causing the problems then I say, I have non. I only use What'sUp, imo, Tango. I don't have any other apps. It's just brand new bought from Verizon and it has of course Verizon apps and google, Samsung apps. I tried everything in the youtube, google but for vain. One day I was tampering with the settings and I found one of the settings with a weird message. I changed it then it is working 100% like a machine guys. Here is the settings and the warning message:
Go to Settings => Display and wallpaper => Screen mode => the default selection would be: Adaptive display.
When I reached this one, I read the following warning message:
"Optimize the color range, saturation, and sharpness of your display automatically. This mode may not be compatible with third-party apps."
This message draw my attention and I told myself, let's try this.
You can choose any other of the settings and non of them will show a warning message, so, I selected "AMOLED photo", I liked its colors more than cinama or basic, and voila...
I changed this settings since August 17, 2015 and I'm writing this on August 27, and never had even one restart or self turn off. it's now solid like a rock and working like a machine, very stable.. never better.
Please guys try this solution and spread the word if you find it useful.
Thanks a lot"
I'm having a somewhat similar issue. My S6 Galaxy Active is just randomly shutting down. Say I call somebody and they don't answer; I set my phone down after hitting the power button to lock the screen. Twenty minutes later I go to check it, and it's just off. I have to turn it back on and now don't know if I received a call or not (unless a voicemail was left) and it's very annoying.
This started out rare and has now become more frequent. At first it wasn't too often and generally only happened when the phone was "resting" on a desk or my bed with the screen off. In my last call with my girlfriend it shut down THREE TIMES during our conversation.
Now, during the conversation the phone was against my head so the screen was still off. I haven't ever noticed it happening with the screen on. This has started to happen within minutes of a prior shutdown, like 40 times a day, and it's insane. While I'm not 100% sure I'm about 90% that it only happens while the screen is off. It's not restarting, it shuts down completely and remains that way until I power it on again. It's not buttons being pushed accidentally as it will be set down entirely by itself and still shut down.
Another, possibly related, problem is that sometimes the screen is blank. I'll turn the phone back on and will hear the startup sounds, but there is just no picture. The screen is dead. I will have to force-shutdown the phone (volume down + power) to fix this. Sometimes it restarts with no screen again and I have to do this several times, but it always is fixed eventually. This happens much less frequently than the shutdown problem but is still an annoyance. I've also noticed some... flickering, while the phone is in use. This is even more rare but has also started to happen a bit more. I'm not quite sure how to explain it... a portion of the screen may compress, or "wrap" around. For instance, the bottom portion of the screen (let's say the bottom 1/8th of it, if you divided it with horizontal slices) will "wrap" and be shown at the top, distorted with random discolorations (generally purples, greens) along with sometimes being twisted at an angle. This usually happens for a few seconds and goes away.
My main concern is that I've taken great care of this phone. It has never been dropped outside of slight falls from pocket/hand level onto carpet. It's never been submerged or even gotten wet at all. On top of all that, it's an ACTIVE! It shouldn't really matter if it DID get wet; regardless, although it's an Active it's been cared for as if it weren't. This simply cannot be a result of physical neglect unless somebody is sneaking into my house at night to chuck my phone at a wall. The phone is... I'd say a year and a half old? I bought it when the S6 was still the newest Galaxy, I believe AT&T had somewhat recently obtained the rights to sell it. I'm sure I could find the exact date of purchase if it mattered.
I didn't want to make an entirely new thread for this, but I'm sorry if I've hijacked this one. If I should make my own thread instead I will, I just figured keeping the main boards clear of clutter was a better choice.
Thank you to anybody that can help. I'm guessing my only options are "replace it" or "take it in" but I'm hoping there's a solution. I know I can wipe the cache, factory reset, etc. I will add that I am very, very full in terms of memory; I might have around 500gb free. I'm not even sure what's really taking up all the space as all my music is in the Cloud, I'd have to check, I guess Apps? The Active not having an SD slot really sucks. I don't think low free space could result in shutdowns, I work in the IT industry and can't think of a reason why it would... unless something absurd is happening, like the phone is running out of RAM, trying to use SWAP, there's not enough space (although it would be pre-allocated and this wouldn't happen, no?) and so it shuts down? I don't know.
I'm thinking it might be as simple as a loose battery connection, as so far my tests seem to show that this DOES NOT HAPPEN while the phone is plugged in, so it seems like some sort of quick power failure? Unfortunately I am unable to check the internals myself as I do not want to void any potential warranty; I think I may have purchased the replacement plan and will be checking tomorrow. If I'm going to void my warranty it's going to be with a root, not exploratory surgery (at least not until I'm 100% sure what to look for). Anyways, thanks for any help.
