I might be rooting my Australian HTC One 801s depending on these questions.
1. If I OTA update my phone, will I lose my root?
2. If I install Android Revolution HD and I want to update the rom, will I lose my data when updating the ROM?
3. Will I lose my data if I revert back to stock?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

1: I think you will lose your root after OTA (not sure because I'm not rooted)
2: You can do a dirty flash and not wipe your data but sometimes it is required erase data
3: Yes you will lose your data if you back to stock. Unless you do a nandroid backup after rooting and then save the backup in your PC.
My at&t s6 edge is running on 5.0.2 OE2. It's rooted using pingpong root. Because of some reason I'm not able to create mobile hotspot. I wanna factory reset the phone but since it has locked bootloader and everything I'm scared to do so. What exactly will happen if I factory reset my phone? Do I need to unroot first?
anyone? pls help!
It will stay unlocked and rooted. However all of your apps, settings, and data will be deleted.
It resets your phone as if you just flashed a new rom.
I'm on the OOS version before the new year's Nougat update. The device is completly untouched: stock rom, stock recovery, bootloader locked.
I'm both interested in updating to nougat (got the OTA notification) and also possibly having root in the future. Now, if I'm understanding this correctly, I need to unlock the bootloader to flash TWRP; and I need TWRP to create nandroid backups.
So how would I backup my current system, so that I'd be able to come back to the current state after unlocking the bootloader? I've only found out about the unlock process wiping the user data after already personalizing all system settings/permissions and apps to my needs... Don't really want to spend days re-doing all of that.
I've heard it's possible to boot into TWRP via fastboot without actually flashing it, would that be an option, or does it also require an unlocked bootloader? Are there maybe exploits to (ab)use in order to get root without unlocking the bootloader, so that I could backup stuff that way, or even flash a custom recovery from within the system, like I did on my old Samsung ages ago? (e.g. Dirty Cow, would that trigger dm-verity and soft-brick my phone to the point where I had to wipe it?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi. I have unlocked bootloader, so i Lost ota update, and i don't do a TA backup.... So how can i upgrade firmware without reflash the whole software?
All I can think of is a backup of data partition if you have TWRP and then do a full system flash. Otherwise you could back-up your own personal information using other apps and then flash and then restore ( I do it this way ) as it's the easiest and I've never had any issues with personal data being lost.

Hello friends,
I'm on 8.1.0.161 with my CLT-L29. I got the OTA update notification for weeks now.
I'd love to update but IIRC there were no simple ways to do that without losing data and root. Did the situation change meanwhile?
What would be the steps necessary to run the OTA update? Remove root, flash stock recovery (I'm on twrp 0.1 now), install OTA update, then root again?
Best regards,
