HTC Desire 512 Root? Yes, 512 - HTC Desire 510

I have an HTC Desire 512, didn't know where to post this. I actually had the chance to root using the app Sunshine, it works and gives me a temporary root, but its the only way that i can get root. After I reboot the phone, the temporary root resets after every boot. Is there any hidden support for this device? I have seen before that someone has used a HTC Desire 510 TWRP on the 512 to successfully root the 512, but im not sure if thats valid.
Any help would be appreciate.

What exactly do you mean by resets? Are you saying the phone resets all the stuff you've deleted or something? The Sunshine app that @jcase made isn't the cause of this!

Im sorry, I worded my sentence wrong. Excuse me for that.
Im trying to unlock the bootloader and gain root, but nothing seems to work at the moment, Sunshine only gave me a temp root, and thats the farthest i ever got on cracking down the 512. I heard on this thread that someone has used the 510 TWRP on the 512, but im not sure if that information is valid. I don't want to brick me phone lol. :'(

Team Win Recovery TWRP has a list of all the recoveries they have but it doesn't show one for the 512.. I don't think Sunshine does temp root only so I'll have to look into that.. Did you pay for the sunshine app? I wouldn't suggest using a twrp from the 510 on the 512 because the specs are not the same.. However, do you have the link to the thread where the person said they used the 510s twrp on the 512 so I can see it?

No, I didn't pay for it as I rather not use 25$ for it, but I may have to support the devs this time!
The app says that if you didn't pay for it or use a code, you should reboot, i just ignore that, and then off we go to the root checker!
It says that I have root access! lol.
Root features work, i tested an app requiring root on one of my own apps, and it did what it had to do,
Rebooted my phone, and lost it

If you didn't pay @jcase for the sunshine app then there's no way it gave your phone root because it's impossible without getting a very specific 1 time use key from @jcase and the sunshine app only does a temp root so that it can change stuff in order to get permanent root. the temp root doesn't mean you have root access which is why it was gone after you rebooted... Before you pay (which you should because a lot of them devs deserve compensation for that app and all their hard work) for the sunshine app I suggest you go to the root ninja websites chat room and ask if it works with the 512 I'm pretty sure that @beaups is usually there if @jcase isn't available.

Ahh gotcha, I sure will ask! I wish that there was just more support for this type of phone, I am really hesitant to pay 25 for a root when people get their's for free. Oh well, looks like I have to pay the fine for their hard work!

Why don't you just unlock the boot loader from the HTC dev site and then after that use adb and pull your stock recovery to your computer so you have a backup of it and the same for the kernel/ boot that way you can at least try to flash the 510s twrp because even if you do use sunshine you still need some way to flash from a recovery and if it doesn't work all you'd have to do is reflash the stock recovery that you pulled and it'll be back to normal.

You should get your boot loader unlocked before trying to use this that I'm uploading.. No reason to really use it unless something happens to your phone and a backup like this is always best to have.

CWM is not going to work so you'll have to try the twrp for the 510 and if it fails just reflash the stock recovery but first before doing anything period the boot has to be unlocked and this one is similar to yours ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-510/general/guide-how-to-unlock-install-recovery-t2988292

Successful root.......

OK did anyone here successfully rooted there HTC One? I really want to root mine badly but there isn't a "STABLE" root process for me yet... well I am a n00b... :/

I think the process is: unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash ROM, done. ROM should have root access by default.
That's if you don't mind leaving stock stock.

Ok there is some root process that requires "S - Off" before you can even root your phone... don't know what that means... :/

That can't be used yet because only a few limited people have S-Off. Use the tutorial thread in development forum and that gives you a step by step guide of how to do it all.

Make sure you are flashing a 'super user' like software from cmd before you flash a new Rom, and I suggest having clock work mod recovery flashed, I currently have the touch one, but I think I prefer the classic. Some new roms are buggy with the touch

I unlocked and rooted my regular Sprint 32GB M7 and it went really smoothly - I used the All-In-One program with the Sprint version and there is a special Sprint SuperSU version that needs to be used for Sprint. I paid $200. for this phone - don't see any need for developer edition of phone.
---------- Post added at 09:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 AM ----------
Also I used the TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) for my recovery and it works really smooth. Phone shows S-On - not sure what the difference would be if S-Off was showing.

I am currently not rooted but I have Twrp installed and bootloader unlocked!
If being rooted is a big thing for you now (there really is no need to be just yet), When I had my G Watch, there was a toolkit over there that did all 3 things for you. The dev claims its for G Watch only, but a reply was posted that someone had success on the Live as well, which I dont see why that would be an issue considering its the same OS on both..
If you want to be the test person...feel free !!

it was alittle confusing (well the twrp terminal part) but these are the steps he gave me:
Install TWRP, use that to root your device. Then remove the /System/app/Superuser.apk.
Boot into TWRP
Mount the system
Use the TWRP terminal emulator
rm /system/app/SuperSU.apk
I went into TWRP, mounted the system, and went to reboot the watch, at which point it said that I was not rooted and asked me to install Superuser...I clicked yes, then rebooted and let it settle
Went back to TWRP, made sure system was still mounted, and used the built in file manager (I really had no idea how to use the TWRP terminal since there was no way to input the rm command on the watch itself) to manually remove the Superuser.apk.

Anyone working on root yet?

Some seemed to have root, if you are willing to unlock the bootloader, install the experimental CWM, and flash the latest SuperSU beta.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/moto-x-2014-dump-t2868250/post55628034
Not a real issue if you have the pure edition (as far as I know unlocking the bootloader on the pure edition does not void your warranty). But currently I can't find the working CWM.
If people are looking for root w/o unlocking the bootloader then I think we will need more time.
My Pure Edition arrived around noon today (the 24th).
Unlocked the bootloader, then I installed the test version of CWM, then I installed SuperSU
Launched SuperSU app and it seemed to work so I went ahead and went crazy...
Currently rocking a device with all my apps & data (thanks Titanium Backup!) and with a few UI tweaks (thanks Xposed and GravityBox!)
I can vouch it is all working 100% and is safe if you can follow instructions. Everything I needed was in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/moto-x-2014-dump-t2868250 Test version #8 of CWM is the one you want; page 9 I believe. Yeah, still needs a code. Took 45 seconds though. Email with code came to my gmail in seconds. No real hassle

Just saw your edit. Not sure, I went ahead and just flashed it. I'm just going to leave it there until somebody ports TWRP to the new X (probably only a matter of days). Never tried just booting it - should maybe work; but again, can't say for sure.

If you can get it to me somehow, I will post it somewhere that bandwidth quotas will not be an issue. Please do share it, I think there's alot of us (me included) that got their X's early, and have them ready to go with an unlocked bootloader, just waiting to root. Thanks!
You can send me a direct message, or make the link public. Thanks again.

I did, file is at the link just a few posts up. Enjoy!
I just rooted without flashing CWM using
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
where recovery.img is the CWM Test-8 file, and sideloading the 2.02 version of SuperSU. Rebooted from CWM and chose to fix root, now I have root. Took all of 30 seconds to do.

i am glad many are saying you don't need to flash CWM. good news for me!
p.s. you should get your SuperSU up to date. may i suggest 2.09 beta?

Downgrade to 4.4.2 factory test firmware for SM-S903VL

I found that you can use kingroot to root the factory test firmware for the SM-S903VL
This is the only root method I know and I belive it is the first for the SM-S903VL
The factory firmware has drawbacks, no text calling or downloads or play store.
If anyone can find a way to make this better and actually be able to use the play store phone and texting let us know.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS
Downgrade and root files found on my drive...
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4954IfsDiYKendnaWN1cGZ2Snc
Use odin to flash and Kingroot to root, may take a few tries.
If you are done and need to flash back to stock firmware flash these files with odin...

Downloading files. Will confirm asap. Thanks!
Definitely works. Root verified. I'm going to stay here and mess around for awhile and see what I can get away with. I'm far from any kind of expert but this seems like a good sign.

I played with it for awhile, seems the bootloader is locked so that explains not being able to flash a custom recovery. I can't wait till development takes off.

I flashed a custom recovery used from one of the other S5 phones but it kept booting into a page that said take it to a Verizon employee. I assume that's because of the bootloader being locked. I installed Flashify with an apk and used that to flash.

I used Flashify to flash a custom recovery image, TWRP. It worked but the device wouldn't boot into the recovery image or even back into the operating system anymore. It went straight to a page telling me to take my phone to Verizon store so Verizon could fix my phone. I tripped something.
I just opened Odin and reflashed 4.4.2 and kept messing around, that fixed my phone.
Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

aw poop, seems we need someone to make a safestrap or bootloader unlock method.. I wish we didn't have to fight to get root and recovery control...

I think you finding this method mentioned in this thread on the original post is a real winner. I think it might be the answer for someone to come in and start developing. *fingers crossed*

Hopefully... It took forever to find the firmware files and I only just happened to investigate the factory test files and noticed it was 4.4.2 and decided to try out different one click roots for the heck of it...

I wasn't entirely sure what you wanted when it concerned Apps so I just went to settings and took screenshots of everything under Settings > Device > Apps
Let me know if that's everything you need so I can put 6.0.1 back on before I head to work so I have a stable phone.

I was able to get the home screen and notifications but there is this black transparent thing with yellow text that is getting in the way of everything, you can see it in the screenshots. Also because this is Factory Mode apparently there is no lock screen? I've rooted again and am trying to see if I can turn it off for you but here is what I got so far

Now that strange, where I managed doing it my self. If (which I believe is the case) your model doesn't show up on the list choose the option of 'All Other Supported Models '. This did the trick for me, where I also have unlocked my desire 10 lifestyle.
Now getting the rom version 'tweaked' to your convenience that's is the harder part. I managed install Xposed and xtended tweaks but it doesn't really work because SElinux is active, system remains R/O and wp can't be de-activated
Good luck

That's weird!
Perhaps is TWRP didn't decrypt the data partition so it can not install supersu apk into userdata.
You can try to install SuperSU apk on Google Play manually.

What's your device's current rom version? dual or single sim?
I can make a patched boot image for you, and you could flash it in download mode.
I have did it on desire 820 both dual and single sim version before.
