unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery then flash the latest supersu.zip. As simple as that
htcdev.com/bootloader
https://dl.twrp.me/m7/

Its the same procedure to unlock a locked or re-locked bootloader. The only difference between locked and relocked is that relocked mean your phone was unlocked at least once then locked back using the "fastboot oem lock" command. So go ahead and follow the instructions from htcdev.com/bootloader (submit your token then wait for your unlock code and flash it).

As @alray said, unlock procedure is the same for "locked" and "relocked". That means that your files WILL be erased when you unlock your bootloader, so backup everything you don't want to loose

Returning my phone rooted?

I have a warranty for my phone, and i recently called because the battery was faulty. They sent me a new phone, and now I have to send the old one back. I have ATT, and I live in the US. My old phone (the faulty one) was running ARHD 11.0, Rooted, Bootloader unlocked and what-not. Will ATT care if I send back a phone that is rooted?
Probably not, but since there's an RUU available I'd flash it.
If you can

What's an RUU?
I'd flash the RUU for AT&T then return it. :good:
Rom update utility. Look in the att dev section

It's a Rom Update Utility and takes you back to the latest official firmware, ROM and radio. I used the one listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874 for AT&T. Look for the one named Cingular. If you've only unlocked bootloader, relock the bootloader, download the RUU and run the program :highfive:

Do i use the decrypted one? And Do i flash it just like I would flash a kernel?
Also, let me make sure:
I use my custom recovery to flash the RUU
Then re-lock bootloader?
No. Use the exe. Put phone to bootloader, connect to PC run the exe

No. You shouldn't flash via recovery. Download the RUU, relock the bootloader, connect the phone to PC via USB, and let the RUU do it's work. Make sure you read up on the thread but this is the one I used. I have an AT&T HTC One so I used this one RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular_1.26.502.12.exe

No problem, I used to be on xda a while back (Nexus S) and left for an iPhone 4s and 5 now I am back to an HTC One. You want to hold down power and down on volume. Phone should go into the bootloader. Make sure you relock the bootloader first or the RUU will fail every time. :fingers-crossed:

Also the All in One toolkit that I used originally has an option to relock the bootloader. Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242635. Follow the prompts and it should make restoring your phone to stock a breeze. :good:

You're welcome and nope. All credit goes to the developer of that awesome tool @hasoon2000. After relocking run the RUU and you should be golden.:victory:
I've been trying to get the Toolkit to work, and to relock my bootloader, do I have to go through steps 1-6 of the S-OFF section first?

With so less information,
No
Try to describe your situation a little more and post the output of fastboot getvar all (except imei/sn)
Are you using a Sense rom or a GPE rom? Is the unlock token flashed correctly but you are not prompted with the unlock screen? Is your phone recognized by your computer? Do you have installed the drivers correctly? etc etc etc....

How to gain root with S-Off but bootloader locked

Hi,
My device is currently S-Off. I don't have root anymore and I relocked my bootloader. I'd like to be able to remove the test device message but all the links I found requires to have root or to go back to S-On. I tried using HTC DEV to unlock my bootloader again to flash custom recovery and then to flash supersu.zip but it didn't unlock my bootloader. I also tried to just do a fastboot boot customrecovery.img and also didn't work. Any idea if with S-Off, bootloacker relocked, no root access, I can removed the HTC test device message?
thanks

Check out this thread on unlocking your bootloader without HTCDev. If you are able to do that, then you should be able to flash a custom recovery. You can use the Guru Bootloader Reset tool to remove the tampered sign and I think the test device will go away.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was referring to but I can't run that since I don't have root access. If there could be a temporary way of getting root access with a locked bootloader and s-off, that could probably work to use what's being said in your link
1) Which is the best recovery? C-Mod or TWRP or any other, i mean i want that to support maximum number of stable roms and that is widely used by developers. Can you suggest me a link?
AND
2) For any rooting procedure you first have to S-Off, then unlock the bootloader, root, then install a recovery and flash a ROM..........right?
AND
3) How to be S-Off and rooted and have Locked as a message on the bootloader?

That's not the goal of this thread but I'll still answer
It's up to you. I personnaly prefer TWRP over CWM but there's also Philz custom CWM that his pretty good.

Have you tried Weak Sauce to get root? I thought about it after reading about firewater s-off. This is a temp-root.

Yes I tried but as soon as I opened the app it crashed. oh well, doesn't really matter. I'm selling the phone as is (I bought the M8 )

if you're still looking for this, root access is available in custom recovery (so no need to mess with the ROM), and with s-off you can flashed a masked firmware using ruu mode:

Long time ago i saw a thread that a user was telling that he wasn't able to unlock the bootloader when he has using certain ftf files. It is pretty strange actually.
Try to downgrade your phone, maybe installing kk and try again mate.
Maybe this will help if you already don't know it. Take a look here. Way old that thread but maybe still guilty.
