HTC One M8 Skips Recovery Mode - Sprint HTC One (M8)

This has been bugging the living crap out of me and I am not sure what the solution is. When I get into HBOOT and select Recovery it goes to the HTC screen, says Entering Recovery..., and then goes back to fastboot. I have flashed the recommended recoveries from TWRP (2.7.0.1) and CWM (Philz) and get the same result from both. I also cleared the cache before flashing and after flashing based on other posts I have found around the forums. Does anyone know what would possibly cause this issue? Bootloader has been unlocked as well.

I am just trying to get in the recovery to flash the new MM roms out there. Any help is appreciated.

You're firmware is VERY old. You should update it. Also, those "recommended recoveries" are not so recommended

So basically I broke down and bought a license for Sunshine and now my phone is S-OFF. I am still not able to install any updates because recovery isn't working. What steps should I take to fix these issues such as what updates and recovery to attempt to flash for 1.12.651.1
I am new to this and I am just really frustrated by this issue and not quite understanding what I need to do. Thanks for any help!
Edit: I tried the TWRP Manager and this solution did not work.
Second Edit: I thought I would post my getvar all results

1. Download and flash this firmware... 6.20.651.3 Full Firmware...(fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24391638059059188
2. Follow these instructions on how to flash said firmware...
-rename firmware to firmware.zip
-copy firmware.zip to your sdk folder
-boot into bootloader
-plug in usb
-select fastboot option (screen should say fastboot usb)
-type fastboot oem rebootRUU
-when u see the black screen w/ HTC, type fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
-when it's done, type fastboot reboot-bootloader (normally you would just reboot but the new kernel/boot.img may prohibit that from happening)
3. Click this link towards the top of the page to download the latest RUU
Sprint_HTC_One_M8_non-HK_6.20.651.3_RUU
4. Right click downloaded RUU and Run as Admin (it will take 10+ mins so be patient)
5. You should now be updated to MM
6. Download the latest TWRP from here https://dl.twrp.me/m8/ ( make sure the bootloader is unlocked)
7. Flash a rooted MM rom or download and flash the latest SuperSU from here https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip
Sidenote:
If you are having problems connecting to data and making calls after going through this process you might have to go back and flash the modified firmwares(boot.img and recovery removed) from the version you are on now to the latest...reason being is each update may include bits you don't have with the latest.

When I purchased the phone it said HTC One M8 and the CID-SPCS_001 looks like it is an M8 as well. Looking up the M9 I know it is not that one because this phone is a white plastic body with only an 8MP camera. It is the same innards, but has lower grade parts for the body and camera.

I did some googling and it appears you have an E8 not an M8 you can re-post your question here

1- go back to your post and remove IMEI, that shouldnt be shared online.
2- an OTA is not a RUU.... there is now way to flash an OTA!!
3- there is no ruu for you
4- go unlock your bootloader again

You need to flash custom recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
when you get in TWRP you need to adb sideload a rom
TWRP / Advanced / Sideload
From PC adb /fastboot folder
you use
adb sideload guru_reset_m7_2-24-161-1-zip
you get it here >> http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-161-1-zip/
When installing the Reset choose Yes to install stock recovery and No to Root
this will allow you to take the OTA update. After setting up your phone takeing all the OTA updates
then flash back your custom recovery and Root

[Q] Help! No radios installed at all

I mistakenly wiped the htc one m7 trying to install a rom based off kit kat I believe. Well, now I have no radios listed at all on the boot screen. I followed the tutorial on the forum for using fast boot to reflash the boot I believe. Process involved an older boot, which didn't flash with an error. I successfully flashed the latest 4.06 version of boot which was successful.
The thread went on to say I should start with the stock rom. Couldn't get it to load with adb side loader or fast boot flash zip name.zip. I have been able to successfully side load viper one, the latest version, and I have the latest version of terp as the recovery.
My problem is the phone will stay on no more than 15 sec. Before it reboots. I cannot see it in my computer although it shows up in device manager. I installed the latest driver from a thread on here.
Seems my options are fast boot and side loader, but I get a signed verification fail when I try to fast boot the radio , also taken from a radio thread here. I'm pretty sure I need s off which is the only thing left. Would this cause the phone to reboot continuously?
I'm tired of messing with it is it time to trash it or is this fixable? Thanks in advance and I'll give any info you guys need to help.

It did this auto reboot every 10-15 sec. the minute i flashed the improper rom. Again I've tried fixing with thread guidance on here for softbricking a Sprint device by flashing an ATT, etc. device.
Please help. Are there people you can call to undo damage like this or are you stuck fixing yourself?

if you are using fastboot the radio has to be an image file, not a zip, or a boot.img, or get a radio zip file and flash from recovery.

Woops typo. So, what I was doing was opening the .zip, and there are two files. A .inf I believe, and the image file (which Windows recognizes as such). I'm copying and pasting this file in the folder with the tools and fastbooting the .img with the command
fastboot devices
I see the phone serial and fastboot
fastboot flash radio radio.img
I get the error I posted before...
I would like to explore flashing from recovery. Given my situation is this possible? Also, do the stock ROMs, the RUU I believe, does it have the radio installed?

The story is I tried to root my device using this tutorial in youtube from zedomax
and it was a success without trouble,
So I tried to install a custom ROM ViperOne_6.2.0.zip
and its where everything got messed up when the installation returned an error during installation
I tried reinstalling and i think i wiped all the data on the storage including the backup using the TWRP wipe button including OS files
after several attempts i was able to re enter TWRP and/or CWP trying to install via Sideload command but failed
i cant load zip files via my PC too because my pc cant read/write the storage of my phone. (I installed USB drivers and phone is detectable on device manager)
now the bootloader have this error Active cmdline overflow! (1094 Bytes)
Since I'm a real newbie in android may I kindly ask a step-by-step instruction on how can i recover if possible from this trouble.
I would really appreciate everyone's help from this forum.
here's a guide to fix that active cmdline overflow, you messed up one of your partitions and your phone wont work until you fix that issue, you need to follow that guide to the letter, do not skip any parts, read it all first and understand it, if you get any of the commands wrong you could end up with a complete brick so copy and paste them.

Thank you for the quick reply,
I tried to install "fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery-2.7-m7-nobcb.img" on fastboot. It installed correctly
when I erased cache then rebooted the fast booth, the "Active cmdline overflow! (**** Bytes)" error was gone
but when i enter recovery, it reboots again to fastboot and the error reappears.
and the cycle repeats again.
I can't get past this
one more thing...I noticed that you used a different adb C:\ADB3> is there a version 3 or is it just a folder name?
when I try to detect device in fastboot:
D:\HTCOne recover\HTCOneRoot>fastboot devices
FA32GW9**** fastboot
but when i try to use the same command on adb:
D:\HTCOne recover\HTCOneRoot>adb devices
List of devices attached
nothing on the list. And ADB commands don't work because it can't recognize the device.
I really need your help. Thanks in Advance
I would like to add that I can't access the phone storage through my PC
one more thing...
how would I know if i got these?
from the guide
"Well you need adb commands, root and busybox... which are only available in a custom recovery or a rooted ROM (with USB debugging enabled)"
1. adb commands
2. root and
3. busybox
4. custom recovery or a rooted ROM (with USB debugging enabled)

I install "fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery-2.7-m7-nobcb.img" on fastboot. It installed correctly but it wont enter recovery mode
First of all you will know if you are running a booted Rom if your phone boots up lol, in your case, yours doesn't, so ignore this and usb debugging.
Fastboot commands only work in bootloader.
Adb commands for you will only work inside recovery.
You must get into recovery to use adb to fix your phone, the reason you apprear to not be able to get in is because of your hboot version, you need to downgrade it, however I leave this completely in your hands and won't be held responsible if you brick your phone, simply, if you flash even the slightest wrong hboot, you'll have a brick, read the rest of that thread after the instructions, your same issue is in that thread.

I wish you can locate a proper RUU for my device.
I would also like to ask if it is possible to install custom ROM on my phone.
I tried to install the ViperOne 6.2.0 and Android Revolution HD 71.1 but it's both unsuccessful
now I'm stuck on Android 4.2.2 in HTC Sense 5 because i can't install new updates to KitKat and Sense 6

Don't know why they are failing but 2.7.0.0 and 2.7.1.0 have caused problems before. And some people say that 2.7.1.1 can cause issues, I didn't have issue with it but not all phones are created equal. You can try 2.7.1.2, I have used it for the past month or so. I read the OP on the port and they stated the lastest TWRP but you could try the 2.6.3.3 if you cannot get the others to work. I am also assuming that you have a GSM phone not Sprint or Verizon.

Lets check the basics:
** Double check the MD5 of the recovery to see if it downloaded properly
** Place the recovery.img in the adb/fastboot folder
** Fast boot is disabled in Settings >> Power >> Fast boot
** Boot into Bootloader/FASTBOOT USB
** Type: fastboot devices
You should see your device listed.
** Type: fastboot flash recovery <file-name>.img Replace file name with the actual recovery name.
** Type: fastboot erase cache
** Type: fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now check to see if it worked!

Let try flashing the stock firmware for your phone.
** Find the unlock code you got from HTCDev when you unlocked your bootloader - "Unlock_code.bin" and place in your fastboot folder
** Download stock_firmware 5.11.401.10.zip and rename "firmware.zip" then place in your fastboot folder. Check the MD5: 3b7b13b52f75ed516c888b827710f29a
** Backup your phone to include all of your personal data and copy the files off of your phone.
** Put your phone in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Code:
[B][I]fastboot oem rebootRUU[/I][/B]
Note: You will see a silver HTC logo on the phone screen
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Note: This will fail with a please flush again message; repeat the same command:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Note: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Note: We need to unlock your bootloader to flash the custom recovery. Using your previous code:
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
Now you should try to flash TWRP, I would try 2.7.1.1 or 2.7.1.2
Hopefully by flashing the stock firmware, it will clean up past flashes to allow the custom recovery to work.

After the firmware update you have to unlock your bootloader before you can install TWRP. Follow this guide for unlocking your bootloader. It was in my earlier post. After you unlock the bootloader, reboot the phone into bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot devices[/I][/B]
** You should see your device listed.
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash recovery <file-name>.img[/I][/B]
** Replace file name with the actual recovery name.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader

[Q] Tampered, Unlcoked, S-On Hboot 1.57 - No USB Debug Semi Bricked

Over the weekend my phone died and somehow it got stuck in boot loop with tempered flag, I reflashed the recovery from TWRP to Clockwork and factory reset, it returned back to stock..sort of.
Everything had been slow ever since the latest OTA, hence the unlock, root and recovery change but I didn't flash any rom. Until today. I tried flashing "Android Revolution HD 81.0"
Now it won't boot through, at most I get now is bootloader/fastboot/recovery or stuck on green HTC screen.
I tired using RUU via exe (can't find zip because htc1guru.com appears to be down) and it gets stuck at checking header 5%
Issues: S-ON/Hboot 1.57/No USB Debug=no adb=no firewater
I've followed every how-to there is, but all of them require USB debug in some way, I can't get into the phone to get it down, therefore adb doesn't work. at most I have are fastboot commands.
Im at my wits. I just want to get it back to stock, to do that I would need S-off or even just have a RUU that works. This is the RUU:
RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_4.19.1540.9_Radio_4A.23.3263.28_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353887_signed_3.exe
I've relocked it prior to update RUU but it didn't make a difference except preventing me to enter recovery for other tasks.
ANY help is appreciated

You must flash ARHD using TWRP 2.6.3.3
you can not use older RUU version to restore your phone with S-ON
You can restore your phone back to stock using a nandroid backup of your version and then flash the stock recovery back.
USB debugging is only needed to use ADB when the phone is booted in the OS. Or you can also use ADB from custom recovery even if USB debug is NOT turned on.
So depending what your goal is you should try to either flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 and reflash ARHD or restore your phone using a nandroid backup if the latest dev edition software.

alray is correct, you can not flash that RUU because you are S-ON and it is a lower version than your present phone. There is no RUU for your version at the moment only an OTA. Here is the stock firmware for your version. This would give you stock recovery, stock hboot but it may wipe all of your personal data off of the phone. Place the file in your fastboot/adb folder and rename it firmware.zip. Then you would flash it in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot oem lock[/I][/B]
After that, type:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot oem rebootRUU [/I][/B]
NOTE: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
NOTE: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Finally:
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
Repeat the same command: IMPORTANT
Code:
[B][I]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/I][/B]
NOTE: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.

I downloaded the file and flashed it, that's what I got.
I went ahead and flashed TWRP 2.6.3.3, that allowed me to have ADB and then I sideloaded the ARHD, now it's working and im setting up.
Question, now that I have the OS back, how should I go about getting S-off and the tampered warning removed. I presume this would save me from loads of trouble down the load. Thanks again in advance.

Achieve S-OFF with firewater or sunshine
Download and install this Bootloader Reset Tool
I went ahead and tried with firewater but ran into HTC anti firewater warning. I was told I needed to go back to stock Rom with bulletproof kernel to get it to work then load ARHD after. Being that if I don't intend to change the Rom any time soon, is it worth doing all the swapping around?

If you develop an issue down the road it is easier to fix with the phone being S-OFF. However, it is a personal choice.
I figured as much, thanks again! :highfive:
