Gear VR lens protector - Samsung Gear VR

Hey,
I like to have the Gear VR in my bag, so that i can quickly test or show new VR experiences, but was worried that something in my bag would scratch the lenses. I found lens protectors on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1399621) and printed them using 3D Hubs (https://www.3dhubs.com/) and I am amazed on how good they are. They fit really nice and snug around the lens. Easy and cheap way to protect the Gear VR.
Enjoy!

Seidio ACTIVE Case Review

I was given the opportunity to review the ACTIVE Case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab by Seidio. I’ve purchased other cases before but they did not fully have what I wanted in a case. Seidio asked if i wanted to review a case for them and I happy to do so. Once the case came in, I was in love. It has everything I wanted in a case and more!
Interior Casing
The first part of the ACTIVE Case is the Interior Casing. It’s a rubber sleeve that absorbs shock if you drop your tab. This sleeve slips onto your tab very easily and , in my opinion, is a must-have for any case and tab owner. A tab can be heavily damaged if dropped and this casing prevents that from happening. The Interior Casing also has holes for all ports and camera so there’s no need to remove it when connecting a charger or earphones. Also, there are power and volume buttons etched into the casing to make them easy to locate when your tab is in the casing. Lastly, the Interior Casing fits right around the edges of the tab so it doesn’t block the capacitive buttons. People like myself that have had a case that makes it difficult to press the capacitive buttons will be happy to see how much space the casing doesn’t take up.
Hard Exterior Skeleton
The second part to the ACTIVE Case is the Hard Exterior Skeleton. This part snaps on top of the Interior Casing for added protection. This makes it so that if you were to drop your tab, the back and corners would be even more protected from impact. To me, this is a necessity while traveling because you never know when you’ll drop your tab. I like how there’s a hole for the camera lens in this as well so you don’t have to remove the exterior skeleton to take pictures. Seidio definitely had the picture/video junkies in mind when they thought of this.
Convertible Mounting Cover
The third and final part of the ACTIVE Case is the Convertible Mounting Cover and this part is my favorite! This cover is the icing on the cake. The most obvious function of the Convertible Mounting Cover is that it protects the screen once snapped on to the front of your tab. It is very durable and and rugged. The second function of the Convertible Mounting Cover is it acts as a stand. One thing I look for in a case is if it doubles as a stand. Inside the cover there’s an adjustable support tab so you can angle your tablet to your desired height. This is perfect if you use your tab at your desk like me.
Final Thoughts
Out of the cases that I’ve owned before, the ACTIVE Case is by far the best case! Although it has different layers to it, they all snap together to keep things neat and clean. I’ve been looking for a case that not only protects my tab, but that is also very versatile. The only downside I can see with this case is the fact that it’s a little heavy compared to other cases. That’s a small price to pay when you have a case that does and has everything. I’m glad Seidio presented me with the opportunity to review this case for them.
Nice review. You forgot the picture of the tab inside the case without being turned into a stand. You didnt forget, i just would like to see it :0)

Anyone able to use a screen protector?

I yanked the screen protector off of my note to use this but I'm not really a fan of not using any screen protection at all. Does anyone use a screen protector that doesn't interfere with the Gear VR?

I initially had a glass protector on mine but ripped it off because of bad halo effect around all sides. I went naked but like you I don’t like the idea of an unprotected display. So I went back to a bunch of xtreme guard dry protectors, cut the top and bottoms down to decrease halo’s and the result is acceptable. I actually like the feel of the protector and the S-Pen works fine but there is still a hint of halo on the sides.
The only issue is that even for the smallest speck of dust or lint trapped below the protector it will show up magnified and appear in the same spot. To the naked eye I cannot see it but it is noticeable in the headset.
If Spigen made this case below for the Note 4 I would do without a screen protector. I just don’t care for cases like otterbox defenders because it’s a pain in the butt to rip that case off 2 to 3 times a day.

I am using a cheap 6 protectors for $5 from Amazon and it works great... Had to replace the original one I used because with the magnification I could see some dirt inside the screen protector, (wasn't visible thru naked eye) but just replaced the screen protector for another of the 5 left and done... Working perfectly...
I have the clear coat product on mine and i have no problems at all
I use my note 3 screen protector.
I also have a glass protector on my phone including the horrible halo
But i still wonder how much of the edges is shown threw the gear vr.
So tonight i'm gonna test it by putting a piece of tape on the edge of the screen (covering the halo) and look for it threw the gear vr.
Will let you know the outcome...
Note 4 has the brand new and totally unreal Gorilla Glass 4. I wouldn't recommend bothering with a screen protector, it's more like a safety blanket than anything else. Why put highly scratchable plastic or slightly more scratchable extra glass on that beautiful screen when it takes a driven sledgehammer to even scratch the real thing? (eh, can't post link yet because I'm a newbie to XDA. YouTube video code ZabqRB8snK4)

I'm using a supershieldz glass screen protector (0.3mm) and it usually does not interfere with the Gear VR after it starts up.
My only issue is that it sometimes doesn't recognize it as being plugged into the Gear VR. Releasing it and clicking it back in will eventually get it to work, but I wonder if I'm putting stress on the usb thing >_> am I? x_x;; or is this common for people who use a screen protector with the gear vr? I wish they didn't make it such a tight fit for the N4.. ;_;
I have the Bear Motion tempered glass protector on my phone and have had no issues. I'm quite pleased with how well everything works actually.

Hmm.. Maybe mines too thick then :shrugs: Thanks for your input :good:
I was given 2 Sample Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen protectors from Otterbox right before Christmas. I put the screen protector on, I didn't get any halo and I now use my gear with it on. Haven't had any problems with it on at all.

That's weird that some of us would have problems with this protector but not others. I wonder why that is?
I have a friend at work who also has a Note 4 with a screen protector. I might try his Note 4 in the Gear VR later today just for the sake of curiosity.

Ya it helps Otterbox HQ is located less than 70 miles from me. I am in the process of setting up a partnership with Otterbox and my school. To provide discounts to our staff, students and community all while we promote that we use the cases on our Galaxy Note 10.1 (we currently have 800+ Galaxy Note 10.1 deployed to all students and staff K-5) 2 sample screen protectors, 2 sample Note 4 cases and and 3 sample GN 10.1 cases. I have had no halo effect on the Note 4 at all.

If they happen to be using that Moshi Glass (The one that's edge to edge) I would be even more interested :silly:
I just don't like how it feels as though I'm forcing the N4 into the Gear... Without an SP (mine is 0.3 according to SuperShieldz), it clicked in with ease and started up instantly.. but now I will often have to try twice before it starts & I feel like it just barely fits in there now >_>

need case that protects the edge and compatible without removing to gear vr

i need a case like that protects also the edge of the screen because most of the cases being sold only protects half of it also that is vr gear compatible without removing any have idea or it does not exist
Any luck finding one? Someone on here mentioned shaving off the rubber bumpers and maybe it works with (certain?) cases? Unsure.. I was hoping the beetle pro full case would be workable somehow.
I can't see much success. It's far too tight in the VR for a case too.

Your not going to find a case that fits the brace. Maybe skins or screen protector
I had a slickwrap on mine and it works, but if you want to use a case you would need to cut it to actually fit.
This one fits... just used if for about an hour with my Gear VR
(relatively tight)

Condom? 2x for better protection BTW in vr phone is getting quite HOT. I wouldn't try...

tech21 or caseology in conjunction with ultimateshield

As the title, about to get an s7 edge and after a lot of reading have settled on ultimateshield screen protector. (avoiding glass tgsp) and am vacilating between two perhaps three cases.
Tech21 evo
Caseology envoy or parallax
Spigen rugged.
All of them review well. The tech 21 seems to have more of a lip top and bottom for the screen front, the caseology parallax seems a bit grippier, the spigen is quite thin.
Is anyone using them with an ultimateshield skin that can chime in with comparability with the protector not lifting or even venture an opinion on which of three is better while remaining relatively thin and unobtrusive.
lots of research the last day or two to answer my own question. pulled the trigger on the Tech 21 Evo frame.
reasons.
Caseology, looks great but there just isn't any lip top and bottom to help protect the screen if it lands flat. so eliminated from consideration.
comparing between the spigen and the tech 21, both have a lip but the tech 21 swung it with bigger drop protection and bigger bumpers on the ends.
more expensive, but I've decided not to cheap out on such an expensive phone. If the protector lifts then I'll deploy a sharp scalpel and shave the edge of the case to sort that issue out.
Hi mate, do you have any pictures of your phone with the screen protector and the Tech21 case? I'm having some issues with my VRS Design case.
Thanks!
Not got a picture but it does pinch the screen protector top left corner on my screen. thing is, with no glass screen protector really playing nicely with cases, I'd rather have something on there than nothing just to give that extra bit of protection for the screen.
I'm getting the skinomi case friendly screen protector in the near future. but in the meantime, leaving the ultimate shield on.
one other thing about the ultimate shield. I went for the front and back skins. getting the sides on is a pig because of the compound curves on the corner, but a patience and it's on really really well.
give it time to dry though. but if I was to put it on again, I'd snip off the sides and just keep the corners. the reason is, the thickness of the side skin is just enough that it makes the button response on the side not quite as crisp as it is without the skin on.

Note 20 Ultra 5G Camera Replacement Glass

Any idea where to get a replacement glass shipped to US asap?
A few local shops can get it, but want 100 for parts/repair. I have already removed to shattered nice and clean, but can't seem to find anywhere that has the replacement glass available.
Thanks.
Edit: Any local shop I stopped in only had the s20...
Spoke to Samsung $117.98 for rear camera glass replacement mail in repair w/ shipping...
Then I ask price if the front glass on the same phone is cracked with the super gorilla glass...SAME PRICE.
It will sit in the box til we're able to find one online somewhere.
Please lmk if u see the glass, not a protector. Thanks.
Samsung will only replace the entire back panel if the camera breaks. I broke my S20 Ultra and had to do this, they replaced the whole back panel at UbreakiFix. I got them to custom make a grey 512GB S20 Ultra which was cool.
Still looking for the Ultra rear camera glass replacement only.
Anyone able to confirm if the the glass opening on the rear camera is identical on the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra?

How did you break it? Did it slip and fall from your hands?
Did it break in a cover?
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JVD15LS/
Found and replaced broken rear camera glass thanks to COCO on amazon. Its amazing they ship a better replacement part then Samsung did OEM on a $1300 device.
The phone slipped out the front pocket of my gym shorts and fell 2ft to the ground, in a case. No screen or lens protector. LVP flooring, not even cement or tile. Rear camera glass cracked only.
Issue is that samsung used a bead of adhesive only around the perimeter of the glass, leaving the middle VERY vulnerable. The replacement adhesive is much more thorough and comprehensive. Glass fits perfect.

Get a better case. Your lucky that's all that broke.
I use the Zizo Bolt on my 10+ It's sucked up some good falls on concrete without a scratch. It has good cam protection.
Remember though if a case takes a hard corner impact(s) it might be a good idea to replace it; material fatigue can degrade its impact protection. If the urethane has been stressed it has a shiny appearance at the stress point.
Hi guys! I have the same problem than you. Only than my glass got scratched it seems with a key in the pocket! It is small but i would like to find a replacement.
That vendor you post it seems no longer has it, have you found any replacement for a mystic bronze note 20 ultra???
Thank you very much!
My son has broken his S20+ Ultra camera lens twice. Once when it was laying face down on sidewalk. Dog walked on it and cracked camera lens. It was in the OEM flip case. The second time kit broke was from a drop in a full Sheldon leather wallet case.
With that family history I have been worried about my Note 20 Ultra. I started ordering and then returning improper cases via Amazon until I found an acceptable.
These are my personal requirements :
1) wallet / flip style case to protect screen and camera
2) case must have a clasp to keep wallet closed if dropped
3) all case corners must be constructed to absorb and protect from shock stresses
4) case construction around camera must be higher than the camera lens and should grip the lens bump solidly - especially along the thin edge
5) wireless charging with phone in case can be sacrificed for good case protection
Hours of web searches and research followed by trying 4 different cases ended with...
*** Visoul Samsung Note 20 Ultra Wallet case
- thick leather case - strong magnetic clasp - proper TPU inner case to hold the phone - camera is held firm - case is well raised above lens face.
Our past phones were protected in Otterbox Strada cases. Otterbox, doesn't make the Strada for Note20's
I hope my experience helps.

Good point.
I've used the UAG Monarch for my last 4 Note devices (this, Note 10+, Note 8, & Note 4 Edge).
Each iteration, their cases seem to be built with less integrity - however, this is the first chip/crack/anything other than a scratch any of my devices has suffered while sporting a high end UAG case, so I don't think the case is to blame.
I can tell you from just a physics standpoint after observing the construction in removing the broken glass, the method Samsung engineers decided on of suspending the glass adhesive ONLY around the perimeter of the bezel will lead to many other Note 20 Ultra rear camera glass breaking.

I never have my 10+ out of it's case except to do maintenance. Same with the screen protector.
This type of phone design needs a case with military drop specs. I favor the 2 piece composite systems; semi-hard urethane that goes around the phone with a polycarbonate clip on backing to stabilize it and hold it firmly in place. A back with a clip adds another layer.
I don't expect them to survive a 6 foot fall but a surviving a 2-3 foot fall onto concrete is needed.
Cases need not be waterproof as these phones are well sealed.
Pay close attention to the cam, the corners especially the spen corner. That's my 10+'s favorite landing spot.
The cam guard needs to be about 4-5+ mm high.
Make sure there are raised front guards on the top and bottom as well as slightly raised sides for face plants.
The side guards will also help stop accidental touches but still keep the curved screen's functionality.
For the 10+ the Bolt case rocks.
Can't say how the 20U version performs though. It seems to come with a screen protector which I question, the 10+ version does not.
Make sure there's enough beef to keep it from becoming hamburger...
