Does anyone know if the C5 has similiar capabilities like the C3 to wirelessy show up in the windows explorer? So the phone just becomes a drive like when hooked up with USB but only wireless? This is a great feature on the C3 but i can't seem to find it on the 5.
Hi, I dont know much about the C5s capabilities, but how do you do that on the C3? With the "Throw" feature? I still hook it up over USB when needed..
I would recommend to ask the same question in the C5 forum.

When I had the C3 (october ish 2014) it used to be under Xperia Connectivity, then USB something. You hooked it up once and then when selected it would show up in Explorer wirelessly.

I went to local store this evening pickup a Netgear miracast adapter hoping it would work out of box. Unfortunately, Christmas miracle seems to be over...
I was able to search for the adapter in Wi-Fi Direct mode, but it timeout while connecting to the device. There were some error message in logcat complaining cannot bring down wlan0, so I think there was something wrong either with the driver or TL simply does not support miracast (I hope it's the former case).
Anyway, just wants to give you guys a heads up before you rush to the store like me

Got it to work!
PTV3K v2.2.2 FW
I stumble upon this firmware update (which is not in the netgear website...), but after flashing it to my adapter, the miracast began to work!
Cheers~
Link don't work.
Are you sure that link is from PUBLIC folder in dropbox?

You can't, WiFi Direct (which is used for Miracast) can't be used at the same time with regular WiFi. Just like you can't connect to two different WiFi networks at the same time.
Some Sony people did say they were trying out stuff to maybe make it possible in the future, but we'll have to wait and see for that.
I don't like this. I will wait for this feature to work it. I think that it's possible.

Current wi-fi cards don't allow several connections, it's a hardware restriction. We'll have to wait until next generation cards is released.

It's a hardware issue, not software.
I searched through Google and I found nexus 7 device is capable of connecting 3g modems and I want to know whether xperia z also capable of connecting 3g and 4g modems because it is the best available device right now.
And also I admire it is a Sony's product always has a lot of xda support if xperia z is not capable of connecting external modems I asked xda developers to find a solution please...................
Re: Xperia Z 3G USB Dongle Support
As I posted in another thread.
I don't believe it will, try it there's no harm in testing it out.
If it's just a plug and play usb wireless internet dongle it'll work.
But if you need to login through a Windows app or something then it won't.
Yes some Chinese and local tablets do work..

Anyone succeeded transferring files (photos, videos or any other file types) using Wi-Fi direct without using any third party software on both devices?
*** Bump ***
Anyone?
What a pity!
Apperenly no one used the Wi-Fi Direct?
I saw a big cry out in XS forum from people for this feature, but here no one seems to be using it
Wanna use ot to but cant get it to send or share files between a pair

unfortunatelly wifi direct no working
I've succesfully sent music over the computer and Phone with wifi, not using any apps whatsoever.
You can do it with OfficeSuite WiFi Direct. Install OfficeSuite on both phones, then use the Share menu to send files over WiFi Direct with OfficeSuite.

I've officesuite that came with the phone pre-installed. But when I try to share via Wi-Fi Direct, I don't see any share option to do so. But the connection between the device is successful.
I don't quite understand, why does this require an app? Isn't this a native Android feature?

Yes. It works (shows in the share) after I opened the OfficeSuite once.
But why is this feature requires an app? Isn't this an standard Android feature? No common built-in share application?

There is no built-in sharing over WiFi Direct in Android. Might come later though.

Bro, I know we can transfer via few other ways. Wi-Fi direct has one of the fastest transfer rates and more over trouble-free if it can work.
I'm talking about couple of gigs video files to transfer from one device to another on the go! Any suggestions without third-party software?

Without 3rd party m not sure if its possible right now but try this: SUPERBEAM WiFi Direct (Click here for Marker Link)
With this you can simply scan the bar code and transfer huge data (I tried photos) - let me know !!
Is there a way to get it without going to a CM-based ROM? I prefer wired over wireless.
Have yet to test this but when I looked into this myself, it supports usb tethering built into the phone already. It looks like you just need HTC sync manager installed. I think pdanet will also work, but I still need to download the software for pc.
I'm more interested in a wireless method without root but doesn't look possible. I want to tether my tablet, not laptop.

Not had issues on my laptop windows 8 or now on 8.1, i can even use flashtool which didnt work to start.
Happened with me too, windows 8 doesn't let you install unsigned drivers. You need to do an advance reboot and select the option of disabling driver signature enforcement
