You've come a long way in a short time...
But your tutorial needs a proper proof-read. Did you walk through these steps yourself to make sure that the instructions are correct?
"SuperSU Beta 2.66" - why not the newest version?
"Usb Cable ,preferably micro-usb" - what other type will fit?
Step 1.0 You haven't mentioned in big red capital underlined letters "This will wipe your phone".
Step 1.4 "then you have to restart the phone normally" - why, since the next step is "Put your phone into bootloader mode"?
Step 2.1 "Put your phone into bootloader mode , power off the device and put it into bootloader mode" doesn't really make sense.
Step 2.4 You haven't mentioned in big red capital underlined letters "This will wipe your phone".
Step 3.2 says "rename it into "cwm.img"" and the following flash command refers to "zip".
Step 3.3 "type "flash recovery cwm.zip"" - wrong. "Fastboot flash recovery cwm.img".
But kudos for writing the tutorial and posting it as a help to others. Can you correct at least the errors so that new users don't get in a mess? And this time I suggest that you then walk through it step by step to be sure that you've got it all right.

Here is the complete guide for update to the latest firmware for those who have rooted phone:
[GUIDE] Update stock rooted/modified rom to last 6.0 Marshmallow w/o losing your data
I think it is sufficient and complete ...

Really? I still see v2.66, "preferably micro-USB"... I stopped reading after that.
And you haven't confirmed that you've walked through the instructions to test that they now work.
Have you heard the saying "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"?
And finally a general message - maybe I should add it to my signature:
(P.S. A plea to everyone in these forums. Don't reply to a simple 1-page thread post copying the entire post to which you're replying. I've already read the original - I don't need to read it again. Copy the original post only where necessary - e.g. if it's on a previous page. And even then copy only the point to which you're replying, not the entire post. The result will be clearer and shorter threads which will be more enjoyable to read.)

While we do appreciate your effort , the guide is incomplete and incoherent.
It might brick phones of new users.
Thread closed.

{[GUIDE]} HTC Incredible S Unlock Bootloader, flash recovery, Root, S-OFF

Hey XDA ,
I have only been here for a couple of weeks (2-3 weeks ) and I must say, this place has a fantastic community. Everyone is always very nice and respectful. :highfive:
However, I have looked through this place and sometimes, some guides may be outdated (new ROMs, recovery, HBOOTs etc.) so I want to create this thread and hopefully maintain it to my best abilities. I will try and come back here at least once everyday to help anyone
DISCLAIMER: IF YOU SCREW UP YOUR PHONE IN ANYWAY FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE I AM NOT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!!! Please understand this!!!
CREDITS: I take absolutely no credit for anything that I write here. I took it from other people's threads and from here, here, and here.
Your phone should be HBOOT 2.02.0002 or HBOOT 2.03.0000 with official ICS 4.0.4 with HTC Sense 3.6.
This method will also work if you have Gingerbread but you may still have HBOOT that is not 1.13.0000
Throughout this guide I will give u (hopefully) working links that will give you everything you need, Backup your data, Unlock your bootloader, Flashrecovery, Install Superuser, Backup Stock ROM, Downgrade your HBOOT, Use revolutionary to gain S-OFF, flash custom ROM, and (optional) install Blackrose 2.03.0000.
Just a few suggestions and little information here:
Be aware that this could take quite a bit of time and everything might not go through as planned. If it does not go as planned, then try googling it, search XDA for an answer, or ask people on XDA. Everyone on XDA is very nice and is always willing to help (as long as it coems within forum rules).
Secondly, I suggest u remove your SIM card from the phone so you will not be receiving any phone calls or messages or whatnot that could possibly mess the process up (optional. I did it just in case).
Thirdly, make sure to have a full battery charge even though you will have your phone connected to the computer from time to time.
1. Download and Set Everything up
On your C: drive, create an "android" folder. I will be referring to this throughout the guide.
This next part is really optional but it will help you be more tidy and orderly.
In C:/android create a "Blackrose" folder
In C:/android create a "Revolutionary" folder
In C:/android create a "Downgrade" folder
In C:/android/Downgrade, create a "Downgradekit" folder and an "RUU" folder.
Get HTC Sync here
Get IncS_MVDTKv3.4.1.zip and the RUU here. For the RUU, download the Typical IncS one unless you are with Sasktel or Bell in Canada or a South American user.
Get ClockworkMod Recovery here. Scroll to HTC Incredible S. At time of writing, the latest version was 5.0.2.0.
***You are also more than welcome to try ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.7 If you would like the link, here it is. However this is not an official release but remains pretty much bugless. You may also choose to flash 4ext (touch) recovery, though you better read up on how to flash it cause it is slightly different (although more automated and simple). I will NOT help you if you choose to flash 4ext (cause if you screw it up, then you better stop right there... This is not joke, thats how simple it is)
Get SuperUser here here
Get CyanogenMod ROM here
Get Blackrose here
Install HTC Sync, then uninstall it. We only need the drivers so the actual application is uneeded. (In the control panel, make sure you only select the one with the icon!)
Extract the files from the IncS_MVDTKv3.4.1.zip into the C:/android/Downgrade/Downgradekit. In the downgradekit folder, you should now have the "runme.cmd" and the "files" folder
Put the clockworkmod recovery on the root of C:/android (no folders or anything)
Put Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip on the root of your SD card on the Incredible S. DO NOT EXTRACT ANY FILES
Put CyanogenMod ROM on the root of your SD card. DO NOT EXTRACT ANY FILES
Take note of your devices serial number. It is either under the phone's battery or in the settings>About Phone. I forget the exact location of the serial number in the About Phone section of the settings but it should not take too long to find it. It started off with "HT......."
Enable USB Debugging on your phone. On Gingerbread this can be found under Settings>Applications> Enable Unknown Sources> Development and check USB Debugging. On ICS 4.0.4, it is found under Settings>Developer Options>Check Android Debugging
2. Backup your data
This step is completely optional and I will not post any apps whatsoever here. Google Play Store will help you here. I did not back up any thing on my phone (I do not have anything important so I did not really care).
3. Unlock Bootloader
Go to htcdev.com/bootloader. Create a free account and unlock the Bootloader. The steps are very simple and you should not run into any trouble. At some point during this process, you will receive confirmation on your phone that will ask you If you want to Unlock your Bootloader. Click Volume up and Power (these are hardware buttons on the side and top, just in case) to click yes.
Note: they tell you to download some thing like Android SDK. Put it all in your C:/android folder
Congrats. You just unlocked your bootloader.
4. Flash a recovery
Switch off your phone and go into bootloader. You will now see, highlighted in pink, UNLOCKED. Tog et into the bootloader, power down, then hold Volume Down and press Power button at the same time.
Plug your phone to the computer via USB cable, highlight fasboot and press power button to confirm. On your PC go to C:/android. Press Shift and right click. Press "Open Command Window here"
then type "fastboot devices". Your devices serial number should show up.
Then type in fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img (assuming you did not change the name of the recovery image. If you did change it, type what you changed it too and do not forget the .img at the end
After a few seconds, the recovery should have been flashed to your phone.
5. Install Superuser and Test Root Access
From the fastboot menu, click volume down and press power button. This should bring you back to the bootloader screen.
Press volume down once to highlight RECOVERY and press power button. The HTC Splash screen should come up for a few seconds, the you will see the ClockworkMod interface. To navigate through this, use the volume up and down buttons to scroll and press the power button to confirm something.
Select "Install zip from sdcard"
Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
Select the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip (this should be on the root of your sd card)
Select yes in the field of no's (lool i know XD)
Once it is done installing, reboot your phone. In the app drawer, you will notice that a new app called Superuser or SuperSU has showed up.
You should have root access but lets just be sure anyways. Go to C:/android and Shift, right click to Open Command Window here.
Type in adb.exe shell and press enter
You should get $ meaning adb has connected to your phone.
Next, type in su. If you obtain #, this means you have root access. Hooray
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO STOP GUIDE HERE. LIKE REALLY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At this point you will be able to flash most ROMs. The exceptions are the one that require S-OFF (the ROM requirements in the thread will state so). Also you will have to flash the boot.img manually
To do this download your select ROM. Extract the boot.img to where you have the fastboot.exe, adb.exe, and AdbWinApi.dll (you should have gotten these 3 files when you unlocked the bootloader). Then open the command window (shift, right click, open command window here) and type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
the boot.img can be renamed to whatever you would like. I keep all my boot images and the fastboot.exe, adb.exe, and AdbWinApi.dll in 1 folder because i download a lot of ROMs. If you do rename the boot.img, i suggest renaming it to the name of the ROM its for. When you type in the fastboot command, just remember to put the .img at the end. This is necessary or it will not work.
If you want to gain S-OFF continue through the guide.
6. Backup Stock Rom
(optional but highly advised just in case something does not work right, then you have something to fall back on)
Go back to ClockworkMod Recovery (reboot into bootloader>select recovery)
Scroll to Backup and Restore
Then press Backup.
7. Run Nonverbose's script
***IF YOU HAVE HBOOT 1.13.0000 THEN YOU DO NOT DO THIS STEP***
Plug your phone into PC if it is not already. Select Charge Only, enable USB Debugging, and make sure fastboot is OFF (Settings>Power)
In C:/android/downgrade/downgradekit, launch runme.cmd
This part should be relatively simple. Just answer the questions honestly, and the script will do its stuff. If i recall correctly, the first question was are you running official ICS unlocked bootloader. I typed n.
Are you rooted?-n
Do you want to create a goldcard?- answer "y" or else you will get a customer ID error (which I believe is either Error 130 or Error 131) while running the downgrade RUU
Are you running HTC bootloader unlocked (or something similar to that)?-y (unless your version main comes out as something other than 2.00000000... in which case, type "n")
Note: Use this second method ONLY if the script did not work.
This script has worked for a lot of people, but it did not seem to work for me. So i typed in the command prompt
Navigate to the downgradekit folder or alternatively, shift right click within the folder to opwen command window here
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp <------ copies the file to the device
adb.exe shell <------ you will get $ prompt
su <------ gain root access
chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version <------ changing permissions of the file to execute
/data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.00.000.0 <------ you are faking the device to run the RUU installler to "upgrade" to Gingerbread
reboot bootloader <------ self-explanatory
In the bootloader>fastboot, check to see if the misc_version worked, type:
fastboot getvar version-main
If it returns
version-main: 1.00.000.01
then you are good to go
8. Run the RUU
***IF YOU HAVE HBOOT 1.13.0000 THEN YOU DO NOT DO THIS STEP***
After you run Nonverbose's script, reboot into the bootloader>fastboot and launch the RUU file from the C:/android/Downgrade/RUU
This process takes about 10 minutes so be patient. At the end of that, reboot to bootloader and the you should read somewhere
HBOOT-1.13.0000
This indicates you successfully downgraded the HBOOT.
9. Use Revolutionary to gain S-OFF
Put phone in normal charge mode, USB debug ON, fastboot off
Go to revolutionary.io
Scroll down to Downloads. Click download from Windows
Fill out the Beta Key form:
Your Operating System- Windows
Your Device- HTC Incredible S
HBOOT version- 1.13.0000
Serial number- Enter your serial number
Click Generate Key. Copy and Paste the Key to notepad or something.
Now I, for some reason could not get Revolutionary to work just by opening the exe file..... Since pictures are worth a thousand words, i have decided to post a Youtube clip which gives you verbal and graphical instructions on how to run Revolutionary.
The clip is right here. It is really simple the way the person describes the process. Just follow exactly how he does it and you will be fine.
If you reboot your phone into bootloader after running revolutionary, you will see **REVOLUTIONARY** where it once said **UNLOCKED**
After you have successfully run Revolutionary, check for root access by repeating step 5. If you get # at the end you are good to go If you do not have root, then re-flash the superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip in ClockworkMod Recovery.
**Please keep in mind that during the revolutionary, it asks you whether you want to flash a recovery. This flashes, (if i remember correctly) version 4.XXXXXX.... of ClockworkMod. You can choose to select yes to this, but i would suggest saying "no" because its an older version. After you successfully run revolutionary, reboot into bootloader>fastboot and do step 4 again where you flash CWM 5.0.2.0. **
At step 5, i mentioned the command line fastboot flash boot boot.img. This is now unnecessary if you gain S-OFF. Now you can flash any ROM you want on the go.
10. Flash a Custom ROM
Here is a nice index of ROMs, Kernels, Radios etc. This is updated once a month by the OP and has everything you need to get started.
I did request that you download CyanogenMod 7.2 so let's just use that for now.
Go back to ClockworkMod Recovery and make another backup. Keep in mind that this should be done everytime you decide to flash a new ROM to your phone.
Once you are done, go back and select Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe Cache Partition, and under advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
Go back to main recovery menu, select Install Zip from sd card.
Choose the CM7 zip (cm-7.2.0-vivo.zip if you did not rename it to something else)
Wait for it to be installed to your phone. When it is finished, reboot your phone and voila! You are running your first ROM.
11. Install Blackrose 2.03.0000
This eleventh step is optional as most ROMs do not require Blackrose HBOOT. However, if you have blackrose HBOOT and you flash a ROM that has just S-OFF as a requirement, nothing should go wrong. The ROM should still work perfectly fine.
To install BlackRose 2.03.0000
Plug your phone, charge only, USB debug on
In your C:/android/blackrose, run BlackRose_IS.exe
If it tells you, you need HTC Sync, just reinstall it, not that hard.
After that, wait for it the Blackrose.exe to finish executing
If everything ran correctly, turn off your phone, then back in bootloader mode.
Where it said **REVOLUTIONARY**, it should now say **BLACKROSE** Your HBOOT will also change from 1.13.0000 to HBOOT-2.03.0000
Some people have stated that they get stuck on the HTC splash screen. If so, just reinstall CyanogenMod 7 ROM like you did in step 10 and reboot.
After this you should now have BlackRose HBOOT, S-OFF, and a CM7 ROM flashed to your phone. Congratulations!!!
***Do not ask why Blackrose is not running unless you are sure you are running a rooted ROM (just use CM7, like cmon, its known to work so just use it to have less headaches)
Hey guys. Heres a great edition to this guide that can supplement or pretty much replace this section of Blackrose installation. This guide was made Sandeep_Jagtap. Give thanks to him :good:
If you would like to try a different ROM go to the index and select a ROM.
Happy Hunting
Note: Never compare ROMs. That means no: which ROM is best for this or that or what ROM is smoothest or anything like that.
You don't compare ROMs because:
1. Developers spend a lot of time making their respective ROMs.
2. Its disrespectful and rude to the developers.
3. XDA is not a competition ground for who can make the best ROM. Its here to give us the ability to discuss how we do so and so or whatever, just not comparing things with another.
In essence, the only comments going up about ROMs should be "Great ROM but I had so and so problem" (assuming so and so problem existed of course)
Appreciate the contribution, but you should have posted this in the General section. This is not a Development topic and should not have been posted here.

If it returns
version-main: 1.00.000.01
then you are good to go
Note: Use the second method ONLY if the script did not work.
8. Run the RUU
***IF YOU HAVE HBOOT 1.13.0000 THEN YOU DO NOT DO THIS STEP***
After you run Nonverbose's script, launch the RUU file from the C:/android/Downgrade/RUU
This process takes about 10 minutes so be patient. At the end of that, reboot to bootloader and the you should read somewhere
HBOOT-1.13.0000
This indicates you successfully downgraded the HBOOT.
9. Use Revolutionary to gain S-OFF
Put phone in normal charge mode, USB debug ON, fastboot off
Go to reviolutionary.io
If you get # at the end you are good to go
At step 5, i mentioned the command line fastboot flash boot boot.img.
Where it said **REVOLUTIONARY**, it should not say **BLACKROSE** Your HBOOT will also change from 1.13.0000 to HBOOT-2.03.0000
If you would like to try a different ROM go to the index and select a ROM.
I have personally tried all the Jellybean 4.1.X ROMs, almost all the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.X with Sense 4.X Roms, almost all the ROMs from the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.X with Sense 3.6/3.5 and Rebased Multilang MIUI4 ROM under MIUI ROM's. I really liked all of them. Great job out there devs :good: :good: :good: :good:
Ones i liked in particular are
From Jellybean 4.1.X: Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 (seems to have the least problems) Android Open Kang Project Release v2 (great customizability though browse through the pages as there are still a number of bugs), and Paranoid Android v1.9.7 (again great number of features here)
From ICS 4.0.X with Sense 4.X: Sabsa Prime v12 (very few bugs as well as a number of different mods that you can add from the installer) and ViperVIVO 1.3.0 (for its great level of customizability clearly evident through the creation of the Venom Hub).
From ICS 4.0.X with Sense 3.6/3.5: Incredible Bliss v1 (its stable, adds a new look, and its really smooth like Project Butter), Android Revolution HD 4.0 (its essentially the same thing as HTC Sense 3.6 except the developper added a lot of hardware speed upgrades and improved its stability) as well as the Second Sun V2.5 (all that's got to be said is that its a great ROM that is similar to Android Revolution HD; improced stock sense 3.6)
These are just my favorites but you really have to try them all out to know which ones you like best Happy Hunting
Please note this is my first guide. If I am missing anything here please inform me and I will correct it. Thank you very much!

Yes you do need a goldcard. Did you select yes when nonverbose's script asked you do you want a goldcard? If you pressed no, then I would suggest you rerun the script and press "y" when it asks you.

Im Trying now, wish me luck! :good:

The script turned your SD card into a goldcard. It wrote a special signature to the SD Card. You can continue to use it as a normal SD card.

Hi there,
I am following the guide but somehow i don't know why the computer cannot detect the devices during the fastboot mode. But the device can be found if it is booted into the android OS. I am using a mac and thus using a VM with Windows XP. I don't know if it may cause the issue.
When I was trying to type "fastboot devices", it actually doesn't work in XP (connected to Xp). But it's able to work in Mac where I type "fastboot-mac devices" (connected to mac). Thus I can go thru the step 4.
Now I am stuck at Step 7 where the script boot the device into the fastboot mode.
Could anyone help?

Go to fastboot menu in bootloader. Does it say fastboot usb. If it does not, then there might be something wrong with your phone miniHDMI port, the computers USB port, or the cable. If it does then i must ask, in command prompt, did u navigate to the location of the adb.exe, fastboot.exe, AdbWinApi.dll (during bootlaoder unlock process, they should have asked for these files)??

I figured out the issue that it should be related to the driver installation was not successful in fastboot mode. I changed to a Windows 7 notebook then it is fine. And I was able to install the ROM successfully following your instruction. Thanks. :victory:

Help on this step.
wong post .... oops
Thanks a lot for this instructions!
It's the first time i'm dealing with this things (got completely pissed of after that ****ty HTC ICS upgrade) and it went all right.
The only two places which were not completely clear to me and you might suppose to put more details:
1. Step 8 RUU should run in bootloader->fastboot
2. After step 9 (revolutionary) Recovery should be flashed again: either answer yes during that script execution or repeat step 4.

Nope. If you are already rooted, Start from where it says to run Nonverbose's script. This will fake the ID of your device to run the RUU to "upgrade" to HBOOT 1.13.0000. Then run revolutionary.
Thank you and its all going great for a noob here.
Thank you for the detailed process. I've done a Mimmi root and custom kernel and CM-7 mod before and for the Vivo that I got recently this was really useful as all the information was out there.
As far as this process goes, all went well except that when you do the RUU upgrade by fooling the upgrader that your Hboot is 1.00 or something and then it copies all those system files of stock 2.3 to the phone - somehow I lost the recovery and root (which I hassled about for some time and realized I can do the following :
1. Bootloader > Fastboot
2. USB connect
3. cmd.exe
4. fastboot flash recovery recovery-image.img
(ONCE AGAIN after the RUU) and everything seems to have worked like butter thereafter.
ROM's I could install after that:
1. MIUI roms (tried the MAUI WOWIE 2.9) Then tried the MIUI3.2.8 - worked well but little laggy - both work well except some apps wont install - very stable, battery lasted as good as stock, slightly better
2. Cyanogenmod 7.2 (hats off to these guys. worked most awesome but wanted to try so moved on) battery great, no bugs, plain simple fast.
3. Virtuous for - the Quattro. This was amazingly fast but there are bugs that need to be ironed out
here I installed 4EXT recovery and
4. Stock gingerbread with SENSE. - boring
5. Now running JellyTime 4.2.1. Not buggy, smooth, Battery seems to be doing well so far and call sound is okay and till now this one I liked a lot.
NOTE: Offline Dictation - Even after enabling google now and updating all google apps, there is no option do downlod offline speech recognition data in google voice typing settings........ If someone has got this to work I'd be glad to know.
I looked around and everyone seems to be suggesting that there is a check box within the google voice input options dialogue. But all I see is Language (automatic) and Block Offensive Words
Overall, seems like this is a great tutorial for anyone starting on their VIVO. Go Incredible! You've got my Flashing

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Will this work on (insert alternate Htc One carrier here)?
Most likely not, give it a shot though! Remember I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device.
Can I return to stock?
Yeah, just flash the stock stuff through fastboot and relock your boot loader.
Will this void my warranty?
If you really have this question you don't belong on these forums... YES htc even told you themselves when you started the bootloader unlock process
My phone won't boot.
Well you did something wrong, return to stock using the above instructions and then try again.
I am closing this thread because it has information which this thread already has in more detail.
It's best not to have a plethora of the same thread.

Guide Root and Unbrick Moto E3 Power (XT1706), For newbie

Firstly, I want to say ‘thankyou’ to pranaay saini and dr.faramroze. u guys are first man who post topic guide root and build specialy TWRP for Moto E3 Power. And now, I want to share my story about my process ‘rooting Moto E3 Power’ LoL :
*Note:
1/ Im a newbie, not a specialist about android phone or technician mobile. I just a person who curious ‘rooting android’ to make my phone can delete almost factory app not neccesary.LoL. Truly, I want to cheat mobile game =)).
2/ I had successful root HTC One M7 before, so Let’s see me have a little exp for Rooting . Then own the new Moto E3 Power and I want do the same HTC .
*My story:
I bought the new E3 Power on online store and Im going to root it. Unluckily, I forgot to ‘fastboot format userdata’ and this phone gonna ‘bootloop’ :v. I bring it to fix in small repair phone center (I already give them the stock rom), hope they can flash rom stock but they turn my phone into ‘hard bricked mode’ :v, less well they format S/N @@.
That’s a awful time in my life =)), I sent it back to store. Luckily, they accept to fix it cause I just used it for 2 days (actually I told them it was factory error) and maybe they believe it true ‘opsss! So sorry’.
After my phone fixed, I root it again, and this time I did really carefully so ‘Your device has rooted’ Bravo! =)). And ‘Peaceful time’ long last 4months, I just install SDMaid and run Luckypatcher to crack SDMaid FREE up to SDMaid PRO, and used SDMaid to cleanup the phone, then my phone run to error ‘com.android.phone had stoped’, and I also find many ways to fix this problem, almost solution on the internet I have try but it’s not working, the finnally option, I chose to ‘reset phone to factory’ . Not able to roote3 power with build s144
Hi,
I have moto e3 power with build number xt1706_s144_170915_row. When i am rooting and installing twrp through fastboot method, after rooting the phone goes in bootloop. The same issue was happening with build s143, however i was able to successfully root for previous build s141. I am following the same method but failing now. Any help will be great
It's my first phone that I will root (moto e3 power)
But the main problem is that, I can't unlock the bootloader , i have used adb driver but after the "fastboot devices" command , my phone's starts in fastboot mode but the connection with my PC is lost. , so please give me the link of the minimal adb and the other moto e3 power driver that you have used to unlock

Awesome post brother! I only wish I had simply read this post before messing up so much with my phone. Actually, I was messing with some magisk module (edxposed) whick bricked my device and got me stuck at a bootloop and with no recovery partition at all. (It erased my TWRP). So I used the sp flash tool and formatted the whole flash (at that time, I hadn't read this post of yours). Then I flashed my entire firmware back via the sp flash tool. So I thought that now my problem was fixed. But when I switched on my phone I saw my phone's IMEI Number gone! And the sim not working and showing invalid IMEI message. So I tried to find a fix on the internet and I found 2 solutions. First was using an app which requires the phone to support some mtk engineering mode. I followed the instructions and realised that maybe our phone Moto E3 Power doesn't support this mode. So I switched to the second solution, which required root access. So then I set off for rooting my newly unbricked phone. But I again did some mistakes:
1.) Allowed usb debugging and OEM unlocking in my phone's developer options in settings.
2.) I installed minimal ADB v1.4.3 on a windows 10 computer. Checked my phone's connection with the PC via ADB command adb devices. It worked showing some error initially (daemon not started.... Starting daemon...) and then showing some hex code signifying my device's successful connection with the PC.
3.) Used ADB command adb reboot bootloader to boot into fastboot mode. It worked too.
3.) Used fastboot command fastboot devices to check if my device is still being recognised as connected to the pc. Here came an error (the command didn't return any hex code like the adb command adb devices did. So I googled a solution which involves updating the "Android ADB interface" to "Android Bootloader interface" in the "Android device" submenu of the "Device Manager" window of the "control panel" of the pc, by updating its drivers using the "latest windows usb drivers" 8mb file which could be found very easily on the internet (searching solution for fastboot device drivers update on Google). {*Note: If you hadn't installed beforehand, any adb and fastboot drivers at all, then you will see "Other devices" submenu instead of the "Android device" submenu in the device manager window.
Also, you compulsively need to be in fastboot mode with your device attached to pc, in order to see this "other devices" submenu.} So now the fastboot devices command started working by showing the hex code like adb devices command did.
4.) Used fastboot oem unlock command to unlock the phone's bootloader. Pressed the volume up button of my phone as instructed by the warning message on my phone's screen. Unlock flow started in the minimal adb window in my pc. Finished successfully within 9-13 seconds. Another mistake now, after unlocking the bootloader, I forgot to format userdata.. Actually I didn't know about the fastboot format userdata command. I thought the fastboot -w reboot is the only way to format userdata (which wasn't working for me). Unaware of the fact that now I was going to experience a bootloop during rebooting my phone, I continued with the further steps.
5.) Used fastboot flash recovery recovery.img command to flash the unofficial twrp img which I had already placed in the minimal adb folder and renamed to recovery.img I used unofficial twrp v3.1.1 (by moderator) [which was working perfectly earlier on my phone] {link at bottom}. Successfully finished this step too. [You can use either of the two twrp: Dr. Faramroze (link provided by op) or moderator (link provided by me). Both are working fine]
6.) Used the fastboot reboot command (although it never works for me). It shows finished in the minimal adb cmd screen but the phone doesn't reboot. So I manually unplugged the device. Removed and reinserted the battery.
7.) Now rebooted to recovery screen and found the unofficial twrp successfully installed. [ Warning: After the 6th step, don't reboot your phone normally. Instead, boot into the fastboot window [hold power + vol. up] and select the boot into recovery option. This is required only for the first boot up process or else if you do a normal boot during the first boot, the stock recovery replaces our recently flashed custom recovery..
8.) Upon entering the twrp recovery during the first boot, I installed the magisk v19.3 zip I had in my external SD card. It's not necessary to root your phone right now, you may even do it later by simply rebooting from within the twrp, and later on entering recovery after your phone is all set and working and when you're free from other hassles. But I went for rooting during the first boot. And encountered an error something like: "Cannot mount data(0mb)" at the second last line. So, I could not root my phone. So I decided to root it later on and currently just have it switched on. So, I went for the reboot option in twrp.
9.) My phone started rebooting and got stuck at the boot screen with the tag Device unlocked at the lower left corner (indicating unlocked bootloader). But this was something familiar to me, I had already dealt with this error the previous time I rooted my phone. The solution was very simple. I just had to flash a no verity-otp-encrypt.zip file {included along with the twrp link} using the twrp recovery and then my device would boot properly, as it did the last time.
10.) I flashed the no verity-otp-encrypt.zip file from the twrp and got so many red line errors during the flash. (This didn't happen the last time). Every error had the same words, "cannot mount data (0mb)". So I went back to try rebooting again.
11.) Started rebooting again. This time the device didn't get stuck at boot screen, rather it went into a bootloop, rebooting again and again. Now maybe the no verity-otp-encrypt.zip file did its job and my device got free from the stuck at boot screen problem but simultaneously got caught by the bootloop error probably created due to not formatting the userdata after unlocking the bootloader. Or maybe the "cannot mount data (0mb) just ruined up my phone. Whatever the cause be, I just went for reflashing the entire firmware via the sp flash tool and temporarily forgetting all the bootloader unlocking, custom recovery, rooting, etc and live with an invalid IMEI phone without a working sim, until I find a solution on the internet.
12.) And then, I ended up here on this thread leaving my experience, and learning my mistakes from the OP's post. Very soon I will depart for the cyber cafe to try again without any mistakes this time.
At last thanks for this awesome thread.
And yes here's the link for the unofficial twrp 3.1.1 (by moderator) & the no verity-otp-encrypt.zip file:

Search Google for "Moto E3 power firmware flash file" and you will come across websites providing the flash file. The file would have a name like "Motorola_Moto_E3_Power_XT1706_MT6735M_S135_161108_6.0.1.zip". The "S135" over here is the firmware version and will vary upon the version uploaded by the site. The latest version as of today is S152_190315. I somehow managed to download a S151 file and I forgot where I downloaded it from. But you can still go for older firmware versions, and then when you're done with all the flashing and rooting and all that and your phone starts up without any error, you can go for OTA updates from within the settings>about phone>system update.

1/ Prepare Stock ROM and SP Flash tool, u can download on this link and the extract it:

S151 is newest (flash file available for download) for XT1706. [Actually S152 is latest but it's not yet available for download] So you succeeded maybe because you used the older version. Cause a guy commented that he couldn't root the newer versions but could root the older versions.

Is it necessary to uncheck preload? If yes, I think you should highlight it. Anyway, I didn't uncheck preload and the flash successfully worked for me? So what difference does it count for? Please do notify us of its significance.

I didn't remove my battery, sim or microsd card and everything worked fine for me. Also, I didn't connect my device to pc after pressing the download button in the sp flash tool. Here's what I did instead:
I kept the sp flash tool ready with all steps. Only pressing the download button remaining. Then I connected my device to the pc. As soon as you hear the device connected sound, press the download button. And the flashing process will start. If you get late in pressing the download button, you will hear another sound of device disconnected. Then you'll have to remove the usb from the device and replug it and go for trying again pressing the download button as soon as you hear the device connected sound.

[Guide] [Android 9/10] [7/7Pro] Unlock, TWRP, Root, and Update

------------------------------------------
Latest update to guide: Jul. 5, 2020
------------------------------------------
Hi everyone!
Many users browse these forums coming from Google or YouTube and have trouble navigating between many guides and threads expecting a working knowledge of Android devices. Many may say that if you don't know what you are getting into, don't do it, but this warning is not followed by many people. Instead of having to deal with the pleas for help from lost users with soft bricked phones, I decided we need a 'megathread' with accurate, easy to follow instructions with correct grammar and concise descriptions.
This thread is constantly updated. Please inform me with a reply or PM if you want anything modified
Sections:
Unlock the bootloader (required for most other modifications)
Install the TWRP custom recovery
Install Magisk for superuser/root
Install an OTA update while rooted
Section 1: Unlocking the bootloader (Windows Only)
If your device is a T-Mobile version, you must first request an unlock token from this website to complete this section. Your device may also need to be SIM unlocked. Check your carrier website for details. Using the cable included in the box is also recommended.
Step 1: With your phone turned on, open Settings. Scroll down to the bottom and select About phone. Touch Build number quickly until a toast message (grey rectangle at the bottom of the screen) appears reading You are now a developer!. Go back one screen to the main settings list and select System. Select Developer options. Turn on the switch next to OEM unlocking. Scroll down a small bit and turn on the switch beside Advanced reboot. Scroll down a bit more and turn on the switch beside USB debugging. Go back to the home screen.
Step 2: Plug your phone into your computer with the cable supplied in the box. On your phone, look in the notifications for a message that says: "Android System Charging this device via USB." Touch the notification once to expand it and again to open it. Choose File transfer from the list. Download and extract this zip file by right clicking it, clicking Extract All, then Extract. (File Credit: Google) This file contains the official ADB and Fastboot binaries. Open File Explorer and navigate to This PC. Under Devices and drives, click on the CD drive labelled with a bunch of numbers. Click on OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup and click yes in the User Account Control popup. Click Ok then Install, then Finish. Navigate back to the extracted ADB and fastboot files (the folder will likely be named platform-tools). With this folder open, hold shift and right click on the blank space. Click Open command window here or Open PowerShell window here. Unlock/wake up your phone. Type in the terminal window on your computer followed by the enter key
Code:
adb devices
A prompt should appear on your phone. Click Ok. Type followed by the enter key
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone screen should show the OnePlus logo as well as the words FastBoot Mode briefly. Type followed by the enter key
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Warning: This next step will wipe your phone. On your phone, use the volume down key to select Unlock the bootloader and then the power key to select. Your phone will then be wiped and restart automatically.
Step 3: Follow the phone's initial setup exactly how you would if you were setting up a new phone. Restore any backup you have now. Once completely set up, follow the instructions from Step 1, ignoring the OEM unlocking switch. I also recommend typing this followed by enter
Code:
adb devices
A prompt should appear on your phone. Click Ok.
Your device is now Bootloader Unlocked.
Section 2: Installing TWRP (Windows Only)
Your bootloader must already be unlocked, and you must be on the latest version of OxygenOS. Using the cable included in the box is also recommended.
Step 1: With your phone turned on, hold the power button and until the reboot options menu appears on the right side. Click Bootloader. Plug your phone into your computer with the cable supplied in the box. Download these two files (File 1 for Android 10, File 1 for Android 9, File 2), which now work on both the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7. (File Credit: @mauronofrio and Team Win Recovery Project). Put these files somewhere accessible, such as your Desktop.
Step 2: Open the folder with your ADB and Fastboot binaries (the folder will likely be named platform-tools). With this folder open, hold shift and right click on the blank space. Click Open command window here or Open PowerShell window here. Type in the terminal window
Code:
fastboot boot
followed by a space. Drag the image/img file you downloaded called twrp-3.3.1-79-guacamole-unified-Q-mauronofrio into your terminal window. The resulting command in your terminal window should read something like this
Code:
fastboot boot C:/Users/Arden/Desktop/twrp-3.3.1-79-guacamole-unified-Q-mauronofrio.img
If it does, click the enter key.
Step 3: On your phone, enter your PIN/Password/Pattern if requested. You should now see a screen with grey boxes. This is the TWRP recovery. Click Advanced, then ADB Sideload, then swipe the bar at the bottom to the right. On your computer, type
Code:
adb sideload
followed by a space. Drag the zip file you downloaded called twrp-3.3.1-79-guacamole-unified-installer-mauronofrio into your terminal window. The resulting command in your terminal window should read something like this
Code:
adb sideload C:/Users/Arden/Desktop/twrp-3.3.1-79-guacamole-unified-installer-mauronofrio.zip
If it does, click the enter key. On your phone, you will see some text scrolling in a black box. Once the button appears on the bottom right, click Reboot.
Your device now has the TWRP custom recovery.
Section 3: Installing Magisk
You must already have TWRP installed to complete this section.
Step 1: On your phone, download the Magisk installer zip (File Credit: topjohnwu). If you are not already in the TWRP recovery, hold the power button and until the reboot options menu appears on the right side. Click Recovery.
Step 2: Enter your PIN/Password/Pattern if requested. You should now see a screen with grey boxes. Choose Install and navigate to the folder you downloaded the Magisk file to. Select the Magisk file (likely named Magisk-20.4.zip) and swipe the bar at the bottom to the right. Once the button appears in the bottom right, click Reboot.
You now have Magisk root.
Section 4: Installing an OTA update while rooted
You must be rooted to complete this section.
Step 1: If you have any themes installed, such as Renovate ICE, Swift Themes, RoundyUI, or Substratum themes, remove them before continuing. Remove the Call Recording Enabler module if you have it. Restart if needed.
Step 2: Click on the system update notification. If it does not appear, open Settings, scroll to the bottom and click System, scroll to the bottom and click System updates. Click on the Install or Download and Install button and let it complete. Do NOT click Reboot.
Step 3: Open Magisk Manager and click the hamburger menu in the top left (3 horizontal lines). Click Downloads and then click the search icon (magnifying glass) in the top right corner. Type "TWRP" and click enter. Click the download arrow beside the module named TWRP A/B Retention Script. Do NOT click Reboot.
Step 4: Click the back button in the top left, followed by the hamburger menu in the top left as well (3 horizontal lines). Click Magisk and then click the top Install button, followed by Install again, then Install to Inactive Slot. You may now click Reboot.
You now have updated your phone's OxygenOS. Reinstall any modules or themes deleted in this process if they are compatible.
(reserved extra section)
Great idea, very thorough!
You forgot the very first step, which is to get sim unlocked. Without this OEM unlock will be greyed out

I am curious about this step. For most all time with a phone that has an unlockable bootloader the command has always been:
Code:
fastboot [B]oem[/B] unlock
Why do we use 'flashing' instead of 'oem' in that command for this phone?

Good question, actually. I'm not entirely sure why the wording change, but the command has been different on close to stock devices since the Nexus 6P/5X. If someone more knowledgeable could explain, that would be great

On earlier OOS versions, the command "fastboot boot" is broken, and this won't work. Process in that case is to flash a patched boot image, root with Magisk, and then flash TWRP like a Magisk module.
Your method works for those that have updated to more recent OOS versions. However, there are folks still out there with older OOS versions, where "fastboot boot" won't work (don't know the cutoff exactly).

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to add the patched image way, as extracting the boot.img is annoying and I'm trying to avoid methods that rely on someone else providing files. However, I'll add a note to the TWRP install section asking for 9.5.7 minimum as everyone should be on that update by now
I hope this gets stickied. Thank you for the guide

For me also...the right command seems still fastboot oem unlock
Is this method applicable to all versions ? Im getting the GM1910: China version , I have used this method when i had my OP6 so i just have to get the correct TWRP version, if the IMG boots the TWRP i guess the zip will be good to go when flashing .
Cheers

I confirm this. Tried this tutorial but was stuck at flashing stage. A YouTube video provided further assistance. Fastboot oem unlock worked.
I think it's great you're supplying these basics. Wish I had it when I first rooted first Android device (htc Evo 4g on sprint). Kudos.

I'm skeptical that the command "fastboot flashing unlock" is applicable for this device. I think it may just be a carryover from some other device(s). The original poster responsed that it is applicable to "close to stock devices since the Nexus 6P/5X" but never explicitly stated whether it even worked for him on the 7 Pro.
Far as I can tell "fastboot oem unlock" is the correct and only command on this, and other previous OnePlus devices (and is also the command that worked for me).

How to install Android 12 ( Derpfest ) for noobs!

In this guide, ill be showing you how to install a custom rom onto your OnePlus 7T Pro device. Ill be assuming your phone is completely stock and you haven't done any modifications. This is done at your own risk, i am not responsible for corrupted images, bricked devices etc.
*NOTE: This guide is for the OnePlus 7T Pro only*
What you will need:
A windows PC - idk buy one lol? *NOTE* You will need a Windows 10 PC, Windows 11 can't recognize your phone in fastboot for some reason. You can manually install the adb drivers to the PC If you must use windows 11.
Platform tools SDK - https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
USB cable that came with the phone
Derpfest ROM - https://sourceforge.net/projects/derpfest/files/hotdog/ (This was made by @NurKeinNeid, It's truly an amazing rom and would recommend it to anyone who wants android 12 on their devices! XDA forum for the ROM - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-12-0-derpfest-for-oneplus-7t-pro-official-hotdog.4250469/ ) Download the .img.zip, not just the .zip!
Orange Fox Recovery - https://orangefox.download/device/hotdog
Payload Dumper - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850510260
Custom Flashing Script - https://github.com/AlaistairP/Install-Scripts
Step 1: Unlocking your Bootloader.
(i) In order to install software onto your phone you must have an unlocked bootloader. To start, go to settings - about phone - tap on the build number 7 times, input your password and developer options should then be enabled.
(ii) Then go into the main settings page - system - developer options. Enable the 'OEM UNLOCKING' feature. After that scroll down and enable USB Debugging. At this stage, plug your device into your pc. A dialogue should come up to allow the computer to connect to your phone, click yes.
(iii) Now on your computer, navigate to the platform tools folder you downloaded, in the main directory with all the files, in the search bar type cmd and press enter. You now need to boot your phone into fastboot mode. To do this, turn your phone off. Then, hold the power button with the volume up and down button! You should see a menu with green text saying 'Start' at the top.
(iv) Plug your phone into your computer, and in the cmd menu you opened, type 'fastboot devices', you should see the word fastboot followed by a string of numbers. Now type - 'fastboot oem unlocking' A dialogue will appear on your phone, using the volume keys select the option to unlock the bootloader. *NOTE - ALL DATA WILL BE REMOVED'
Step 2: Flashing a custom recovery
Reboot your phone to fastboot, then connect your phone to your pc. Type in 'fastboot reboot fastboot' your device should reboot into 'fastbootd' Now using the recovery.img file you downloaded from Firefox, type the following command, `'fastboot flash recovery 'PATH TO RECOVERY.IMG FILE'
Once the file has flashed, restart your phone into fastboot mode and using the volume keys, navigate to recovery mode. You should now boot into Orange Fox recovery. Now, in orangefox, go to Wipe - Format Data - then type yes and wait for the process to finish.
Voila!
Step 3: Flashing the ROM!
Open your downloaded version of derpfest, you should see a file called payload.bin, place that into the payload dumper input folder, then run the programme and wait for it complete, you should have loads of .img files. Copy all of these into your platform tools folder! Now download the custom script and place that into the platform tool folder as well.
Reboot your phone into fastboot mode, and once again type 'fastboot reboot fastboot' Once you're in fastbootd mode, right click the flash-all.bat script and run as admin, click more info if you have microsoft defender and click run anyway, The rest is done in the script!
*HOW TO UPDATE*
Once you have downloaded and extracted the new files from the most recent payload.bin file which the dev releases, copy these files into your platform-tools folder. You need to make sure there are no .img files from the old Rom remaining. Now, connect your phone to your pc. Open a cmd windows inside the platform-tools window and type 'adb reboot fastboot', once your phone has entered fastboot, type 'fastboot reboot fastbootd' Once your in fastbootd, simply run the update.bat script and voila!
After, reboot your phone and you should load into your new Android 12 OS!

Hi Team, this method with flashing Orange Fox recovery and formatting Data, do you know if will enable backup/restore and viewable sdcard for Android 12/Derp?
The only thing I haven't been willing to try is formatting/converting Data, as I've re-setup my phone about 5 times now trying various methods over several days trying to get a working custom recovery for Derp

Hey I'm not sure about the backup/restore, but after formatting the drive, they'll no longer be encrypted so Orange Fox should be able to read the data on your drive.
Thought as much, time for another reinstall. Thanks again have a thumbs up.
Hi Astroarchcraft, thank you for this guide! If you only put it out 2 days earlier you'd have saved me from a soft brick! (from which I recovered luckily ahahh)
Anyway, could you please also add the guide on how to update to a newer build? Is there a way to do it without losing all data? Thanks!
Looking forward to move to the new 2022-01-07 build!
Instead of going to fastbootd after flashing orangefox recovery, it just goes to orangefox's fastboot mode and did the script there. Should it work the same? (I'm still waiting for the flash to finish, will update what will happen after) Thanks!
Edit: Looks like it works just the same even if you run flash all script inside orangefox recovery fastboot.
Anyways, thanks for the nice guide. Really helpful! I know i've been flashing ROMs ever since back then. But its always nice to have a guide here and there. So kudos to you for making this one. Thanks!
What if I'm on a A12 AOSP ROM and want to try Derpfest ROm? can I just flash it in TWRP or are there any instructions to follow?

as well as, what's your experience with the ROM so far, any bugs popped up? Widevine still L1 and SafetyNet passes?
Did you find a way of installing OxygenOS camera? if not, what GCAM are you using?

Some minor bugs have popped up, like apps closing randomly, but that was because of my magisk root, as soon as I got rid of it, all the apps worked. Oxygen OS Camera wouldn't work so I'm using a Gcam mod for the 7T Pro. As for keeping your data, i would advice performing a nandroid backup. There's guides on YouTube as to how to do this.

So nothing other than apps randomly closing, hmm, good, does Derpfest have a Parallel Apps feature like OOS? as I employ 2 WhatsApp accounts (Personal and Work accounts).
Are you using the recommended GCAM from the ROM Post? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...official-hotdog.4250469/page-18#post-86176205
anything else I need to be on the lookout for before I start, coming from OOS I mean, something missing from Derpfest that was on OOS?
Sorry for hammering you, it's just my first time flashing a custom ROM and I'm minutes away from doing it.
