Quick background info: I come from iPhone and was an avid jailbreaker. I always jailbroke my iphone's. I now come to android and have learned of this amazing thing called a "root". I am very new to the rooting scene and would like some info.
Ok, so now Im assuming that because im on xda, most people will say I should root. But I have a few questions:
1. I am currently worried about if it is possible to restore my phone or unroot it. This is because I have heard there is no kdz file for restore on the sprint variant of the lg g4. If I am wrong please correct me and tell me exactly how one would go about unrooting their phone. I would like the security of having a backup. If it is possible please link me to the file/thread.
2. Can I update my phone after it is rooted? Or do I have to restore stock image?
3. If I follow the steps to rooting my phone what are the chances of it bricking?
4. Do you think I should root if I come from jailbreaking. I loved jailbreaking and rooting seems to be similar to that, but more things your able to do. So basically would you say someone of my callibar should root?
I have already downgraded to ZV6 via LG UP and am prepared to root. I just have mainly these 4 concerns. I am especially worried about the 1st question I had. Please keep in mind I am brand new to rooting and I might be a complete idiot when you comment on something.
Last thing. If there is any info you think I should know before I dive into this please share it with me. I might be missing some crucial info.
Edit: Yes I know the title is spelled wrong

As long as you are sticking with ZV6 or ZV9 or ZVA, you can at any time LGUP back to full stock. NEVER downgrade to ZV5 (Will HARD Brick), and don't upgrade to ZVB because you cannot downgrade from ZVB at this time.
Also:
You can never upgrade a phone with OTA while it is rooted.
ZV9, ZVB & ZVA do NOT have root, but there are Custom ROMS to flash over stock.
ZV6 has full root

If you mean the .TOT files for ZV6, there are copies here:

If you mean the actual ROMs (factory files), the thread is here:

I have now successfully rooted by phone for the first time! I am using you Ultrapop Rom and am super excited to explore my phone. I now have 2 more questions for you.
If I wanted to fully restore (a.k.a. No root, no rom, nothing but pure stock) i would have to repeat the process I just preformed following you instructions to install Ultrapop but instead of using the DD commands on the ultrapop file I would do it to the stock file? (I put the stock image on my phone just in case something went wrong)
Last one. If I wanted to update Ultrapop on ZV6, would I just flash the newest one over my current Ultrapop version? Or would I restore my phone to stock via the image method then reflash the newest version of ultrapop?

1st is myfave in OTA if you dont have myfave in your account then it's basically the same
Feels like beating a dead horse saying this is posted in the wrong forum. There's a q&a section and general...
Anyways, ota updates are tmobile based. They have myfaves, are labeled as a g1 device, and are usually odexed. Adp updates are aimed at a dev phone, they are labeled as such, don't come with myfaves or other propprietary software, and are usually not odexed. Both are signed with different keys
ADP1 doesn't have tmobile spam.
ADP1 has root.
ADP1 doesn't waste data by downloading OTA updates behind your back.
My concern is different. I use the one-click method to root the phone, namely the recovery flasher. I understand that it uses a hole that it patched in newer Unix OS. So my question is whether accepting Donut over the air will include a patch that would disable the one-step rooting of the phone?
Rooted phones don't receive ota's, hope that's not unresponsive
Yes, we know that, but right now my phone is unrooted and I am pondering whether to accept the OTA 1.6 or to reject it because it might be preventing future rooting.
There may be many unrooted users as of this moment and we need guidance whether we should accept or reject a 1.6 OTA.
EDIT: From the official announcement, "Android 1.6 upgrades the Linux kernel from 2.6.27 to 2.6.29". So the real question is whether the kernel pdate renders one-click rooting impossible.
donut patches that lunix exploit for the one click root hack. so yes if you accept that image you will have to root it the old fashion way by reflashing the rc 29 image and using telnet and whatnot.
1) So shouldn't someone post a big warning to unsuspecting users not to accept 1.6 OTA automatically?
2) Is anybody going to create an alternative one-click method. Not everyone out there (and that includes me) has the expertise to do the more complex rooting process ...

If you don't have the expertise to root your phone the old fasion way. Then you SHOULD NOT be rooting your phone at all. Just accept the ota update and leave it at that.

okay why dont u just hurry up and root..then install one of the custom 1.6 roms
yes the OTA 1.6 will patch up the "hole" needed for the 1-click root.
from what i figure out if you already have OTa 1.6 then downgrade to OTA cupcake and then try 1 click root. or root the LOONG way.
If you cannot root by downgrading to rc29 ,then how do expect to solve any problems your phone gives you after you root it?

highly untrue. i dont have "expertise" in doing root the long way.
i dont even remember EVERYTHING(mostly commands in terminal) since i only rooted ONCE the long way. and its been a loong tim since i rooted. so i am no expert

Same here. Though I like to do things the easy way, the 1-click got many people who don't even understand what root access is nor the dangers of having root access on their phone.
I only hope that they learn the details of how to use and maintain rooted android fast

But.... have found that certain builds lack that credentials i.e internal storage or market access for apps.... so i have found that the (holiday updates for the adp1 work the best for me!)
Not everyone will agree with me at this time, and yes ive had all the jf and cm mods on my devices, but i care more about internal storage and warranty than all that crazyniess!
And even after getting hero on my pda, i still went back to the adp1 1.6 and lost root!
Now the minute somebody figures out who to gain root after donut/1.6 applying hero wont be hard at all!

Most, if not all, custom roms have 100% market access. All donut builds have support for using internal ROM for apps only. You warranty is null if you have the ADP image installed on a T-Mobile G1
ADP1.6 still has root.
We all know how to gain root after donut.

I rooted, bootstrapped, and flashed clockwork with rom manager. I am currently running liberty3 v2.0 and I am on .886. Is it worth updating to .901? And if so how do I do it? Step by step instruction will help. Thanks
Read around. Just to give you a hint:
There is currently a thread on the first page of the "Droid Bionic General" section of this forum (same area as this thread) that has a list of step by step instructions. To give you an even bigger hint, it has NOOB in the title.
whoops! my bad.
Edit: Just checked out post. Its for .893, but is it basically the same way? In other words, could I just run R3l3AS3DRoot in order to restore to stock, update to .901 and then reinstall liberty. Also, is it worth updating? Thanks.
901 radio is flawless for me never dropped signal phone went from 5 starts to 10 stars however I am stock plan on rooting after I learn a bit mire
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I have no experience with 886 since my phone came with 893 pre installed. Here's my general advice.
1) Read more.
2) Get rid of Bootstrap and install Safestrap. Especially since you're a noob, this is like an insurance policy. Again, refer back to #1.
3) If you want to get to 901, my best guess would be to FXZ back to stock, and then get the OTA (over-the-air) update to 893. I've never done that, so I can't be more help. But there's definitely instructions somewhere. Let me know how that goes.
EDIT: Maybe try this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408522 Disclaimer: I haven't tried it, have no idea what I'm talking about, but it looks promising.
EDIT2: Or maybe this could help? http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-bionic-forum/10577-bionic-path-saver-1-click-method.html
I am new to the LG G2 but not new to Android. I have searched for the past couple hours on where to go from here but I am stuck on putting all the puzzle pieces together. This is the first LG phone I have had so I am not too familiar with all the different types of files for this device. I got my phone last night and it had updated to the latest update OTA of 39A I believe it is. I tried all the recent rooting threads I could find but nothing ever got past pushing the 'SH' command that so many seem to be stuck at. I spent some time this morning using the LGFlashTool and TOT to go back to 11A. That worked successfully and everything I read seemed like people were having no trouble getting root thru kitkat. So I took the OTA's to 24A. This is where I currently am. I used StumpRoot and was able to root with RootChecker verifying.
TLDR; I am on 24A with root. I need direction on where to go from here. Links are helpful but I can find what I need if you just tell me what to look for. I think the next step is to get TWRP on my phone. (I downloaded VS980_AutoRec.apk that I hope will take care of that and at least get v2.7 on my device.) I would like to get to 39A rooted so I can begin flashing the awesome ROMs the developers work so hard on. With root can I take the 27A OTA and keep root? Do I need to find a kdz file? etc?
This should help ya out, just make sure to read down a couple of posts so you get the gist of it. Also as far as I know Auto Rec should work fine to install TWRP, good luck and happy flashing. Make sure that you read about the bootloaders, as I believe Auto Rec will downgrade you to 12b and you will need 27a or 28a and a bumped TWRP to be able to upgrade to 39a.

Here is a quote below about a rom by @xdabbeb that is just plain awesome and better than 39a, LG could learn a few things from this Dev. Hell his rom vs982.5 should have been Lollipop imo, here is the link to it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2975551
It puts the LG G3 firmware into your G2 plus more....
Lawlrus said:
For what my opinion is worth. 39a isn't worth the time and effort.
If they would do some updates that make it better as you said, it might be worth investing in, but your vs982.5 build is this but better.
Anyone that wants to run lollipop should seriously check out his other ROM. Its fast and smooth, with better battery life and better camera.

G870A, Soft Bricked, Need 4.4.4 or 5.1.1 completely stock "Unrooted" firmware file
EDITED 12-27-15:
XDA Assist has sent me to this forum (Thanx). Info and questions follow, here are the basic details:
G870A variant of the samsung S5 (Active)
Stock, unrooted, carrier locked
interrupted power during OTA update from AT&T (most likely 5.1.1)
forced phone into "download mode" and attempted to flash 4.4.2 (NE4) instead of update (actual file used: G870AUCU1ANE4_G870AATT1ANE4_G870AUCU1ANE4_HOME.tar.md5)
Phone stuck in bootloop with freeze/repeat at AT&T logo
unable to locate completely stock firmware file for 4.4.4 (G870AUCU1AOA1 or OA2) to flash back to most recent functional OS.
still currently able to force recovery mode or download mode.
**update:
As far as i know, the OTA for 5.1.1 did completely download but i dont think it "installed" because i removed battery during initial auto-reboot. The existing ROM would have been 4.4.4 mentioned above, updated and active official firmware from AT&T.
Basic Explanation of actions: I do fully realize that my actions and subsequent "incomplete" attempt to patch the software were unwise but i was merely weeks away from paying off the phone, owning it, having it unlocked by AT&T, properly rooting and installing a custom ROM (as i had successfully done to my wife's G900A). In a moment of panic, not wanting to be locked out of my phone forever by Lolipop, I ripped out the battery during the reboot that was loading Lolipop... every time I put the battery back in and hit power, the phone still attempted to load and write 5.1.1. So I thought maybe, the official firmware copy from 4.4.2, which my phone shipped with in 2014, might flash, even though i was not rooted or unlocked. Clearly i was mistaken but it was all i could think of under pressure.
At this point, I am Completely unconcerned about almost all data on phone or even the hardware EXCEPT for some extensive "memo" notes, which i desperately want to recover. I also dont care anymore about avoiding Lolipop because the memo data is more important to me. I am literally willing to rip the internal memory from this phone and send the SD to a data forensics company if that's what it takes, i no longer care about the phone at all... Having said that, recovering it myself and keeping the phone might be nice also.
Question: where might i find a completely stock firmware for 4.4.4 factory, UN-rooted,to flash; or what procedure might i use to directly pull data from the phone, while soft bricked, before doing a full factory reset?
Alternately, any advice on directions i may not have thought of yet?
I have looked pretty deep into the existing XDA forums for this info but i am only finding "custom ROMs" which are rooted or factory stock ROMS for 4.4.2 and most advice deals with rooting, then flashing. I am not rooting but simply flashing fully unrooted stock firmware AND starting in a bootloop/soft brick state. This is why i did a fresh thread.
Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help!

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist. To get you the expert help you need, I'm going to move this thread to the most relevant Q&A forum for your device. Good luck!
Hello,
I am not an expert or anywhere close but I understand the basics of Android flashing / rooting, etc.
I happened to have rooted my G870A from AT&T successfully using a thread from XDA and I noticed they also provided the original firmware for G870A in case of problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g870aucu1aoa1-4-4-4-2-7-2015-t3025119
So I thought this may help you considering you're looking for an original firmware for your G870A.
What I suggest is to try to flash "G870AUCU1ANE4_Full_Odin.tar" (available from the thread I linked above, I didn't want to rip the links out of the thread) using Odin v3.09+.
I did not use this firmware to root my G870A (only used the updates) but everything worked on the first try.
Follow instructions in the thread I provided. If that still doesn't work, you may need an Android expert on the case.
I wish you good luck in your data recovery. And yes, I registered just to post a reply to your thread.
(also: if you want to root your G870A, the thread explains the proper way to do it!)
Appreciate the thought

Really appreciate the thought, however, that particular file is the file that i had originally used before posting. i think since my phone was factory locked and unrooted i did not have the permissions needed to basically "roll back" my phone to 4.4.2 but i am not educated enough to be sure of the exact problem flashing that file.
Thanks again for suggesting it though! I am nearing the time when I will just have to give up and send off the internal memory for physical extraction and data recovery
Hello,
I am also not an expert or anywhere close but I understand the basics of Android flashing / rooting, etc.
With that said: Let the OTA happen. You will not lose the files unless you already started a factory reset. Then your sol. You will not be able to root but you have a better chance of retrieving the files you are looking for. The phone is not like a computer. You can't just pull the HD and sent it out. You either already had the 5.0 kernel or the 5.1 kernel loaded before you stopped the process. This makes it impossible to go back. You can only go forward.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks for that idea. the trouble at this point is that im stuck in a bootloop that catches on the att logo. I agree that the only option now is to continue forward. i just need a fully official software newer than 4.4.4 to load through kies or odin. at least i "hope" the newer file will work.
so far i have only been able to find stock ROMs that are rooted, and i dont think i can load a rooted stock ROM onto a carrier locked un-rooted phone.
The part you mentioned about the kernal is probably true. i had not thought of that before.
So, I juat bought the G4, thinking that since it had been out for so long, maybe things would be well in place on the development side. Boy was I wrong. So... I have a few questions as to what's going on.
1. The ROMs that are available seem to only be ZV5/6, with the exception of a stock experimental ZV9. What, if anything, can be done to help push that along? Are there any tasks for us junior folks that have a little experience that can help make this happen?
2: I see root for ZV9 isn't a thing. Using the ZV6 TOT, should I just downgrade and wait?
3. Can anyone describe for me, in detail, what kind of security measures are preventing so-called "full" ROMs to be used on this device?
