Hey guys, I am having issues with battery drain and not sure what to do, my note wil lose about 30% battery overnight(about 7-8 hours) and last night it lost about 50%
At first it said that google app used alot of battery so I disabled the reccomanded things online(it's location and such), now it isn't draining as much.
Also my location doesn't use GPS, at night I always have maximum reception and yet I lose alot of battery to cell reception, also the other 2 you can see in the picture.
Hope someone can help, and thank you!

Nearly the same problem since MM. Sometimes 4%/hour when laying next to my bed during the night.
Tried everything like Wifi choices. Something also keeps my phone awake for at least an hour.
I hate factory resetting....

Factory reset is about 2h of work for much better performance. Just do it - use Google Photos, back up other stuff to google drive and sync, and you're done.

Factory reset only helped me for a couple days. Just the other day I lost almost 75% overnight with minimal apps installed and debloated. I've tried many combinations of WiFi on/off, HD/WiFi calling on/off, but the drain always comes back. Factory stats and gsam don't show anything out of the ordinary. It's been like this since Marshmallow.

Did anyone facing these issues have any packages disabled before the update?

Nope, all packages enabled before accepting the MM update. I forgot to enable them for this last small OTA just the other day, but I haven't noticed a change.
That's surprising. I've had better standby after mm. Hardly 3% in an 8 hour night. 5.5 hours consistent screen on with relatively heavy usage.

The only app that messed it up was Opera max. Saved me ton of data but messed up battery life exponentially.

I'm assuming the update will fail. I would guess the OTA has some sort of check before installing.

Didnt you mention you didnt enable the packages before accepting the last OTA? If so, how did that go?
I did a factory reset, it did not help in the end :\
I have the impression that completely stopping Location services makes a difference, inclusive this option to Scan wifi.
I now have, on idle(!) 2.1 % per hr loss. Sync still on and also Wifi. But no automatic updates.
Pls feedback about this

Correct, I forgot to enable the disabled packages for the latest OTA from Verizon. Everything went fine, as far as I can tell, but it wasn't a "major" update (still 6.0.1, no version change/update), just a few bug fixes.

That is amazing, 0,375% per hour. I never in my life succeeded in that. Ok, with first Nokia maybe.
I sometimes got a .7% per hour drain, but that is my absolute minimum.

Yeah. On lp it was an easy ten percent + every night. I think the combination of package disabler and the dose on mm got something right going on.
Greenify
Hi guys, i'm actually from over on the s6 edge plus part of xda and a lot of us are having the same issue with idle battery drain
I fixed this on my s6 edge plus by installing greenify and activating aggressive doze. It's by no means a permanent fix but it does the job. Since the note 5 is like the s6 edge plus's brother in terms of hardware and similar software give this a go and let me know if it helps
Have a look at the screenshot i uploaded if you are unsure

Hey,
In my quest for root and an overall more usable phone I stumbled upon LGs QuadGearBox.
I have read about it in an announcement however it hasn't been released officially yet.
It has the option to set the tegra processor to eco mode. Feel free to try it out
You can choose any shortcut app and dig into settings where you will find QuadGearBox or just use my wrapper-app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domenukk
There is also a CPU meter hidden in an lg settings app but I have to sleep now...
Hope this helps and brings this awesome phone with battery issues a step forward. It's as good as it will get without root...

I have no Idea why it's hidden. Maybe it's doomed by tegrademon?
No seriously after googleing I've read in some announcement that they want to publish it
at some point in the future. So we can only guess...
Btw I think you are right with the processor only using two cores. It seems to me like it tends to use the shadow core more often as as well but have not tested it properly...

Exactly that seems to be the case. If games start to lag just power it up again
Is it possible that this app is causing BSOD's?
I had a problem with random reboots or just a black screen with the only solution long press power buttom or battery pull. So I restored factory settings and installed a few basic apps (no special boot services I think) and also this tweak. Now the black screens are back. Very weird, because I'm not doing anything "out-of-the-box".
PS: don't mind my sig, that's my old phone (which I still have to use way too much as backup phone...)

I have had exactly same problem, it also caused some random reboots for me, so I deactivated the Eco-function and uninstalled it afterwards.
The random reboots are gone now. So this app might work on some phones and not on others, that's maybe why LG hasn't published it yet.
Best regards

You can always perform a factory reset from the recovery in case you cannot boot anymore ,(keep on an down keys. Pressed on boot)
However as mentioned before my phone works rock solid in this mode. What firmware are you on? Oo
Also it safes battery and doesn't turn hot.
Still way to much battery usage however... :-\

I'm using 10d. I tried that once and booted into update mode. "Please wait while updating" or something for about 2 hours, so I had to reboot again.
It's strange because I was using this tweak for a few days without any problems at all. Maybe some interference with another app? I don't know about battery usage, but I can comfirm it wasn't turning so hot as it does now (with 4 cores).

Maybe something that needs the 4 cores? Wouldn't make sense that the phone freezes, though. Maybe there is different tegra hardware around? Or it depends on tolerance as it does with overclocking...
All I noticed was that tegra 3 demo wouldn't start anymore. Makes Sense, tough, as it needs to use all 4 cores...

I'm 99% sure I used volume down button. To be honest I can't remember but it's the same on all my android devices, so I did it instinctively.
Maybe it's the app Micro CPU monitor? It has an option to show all cores seperately and also starts on boot.
I currently have a 3GB data plan with AT&T and have been charged an extra 2 GBs so far for excess usage. I stream music like no ones business and stream at high quality and watch YouTube at high quality, so I can account for that. What I don't get is what the hell Android OS is doing eating up so much data, see screenshot. This is only two days worth of use, I click into it and can't get any other details.
Anyone have a clue?

I had instant upload on but only when on wi-fi, I did have an HTC backup account registered but I had sync-off. I just now disabled my Google account backup, this is all I can think of other than email but that would show up as a mail app and not Android OS. It's weird, I've set up my previous Android phones just the same and I've never had this kind of problem before.

It is mostly google backup that tends to eat data with my phones. More so since ICS and JB. It is different for different people but it is general trend. This is the reason I prefer doing manual titanium backup every week instead of google backup.

It does nothing. It just backs up the market links. But even that for some reason eats up lot of data. Mine eats anything upto 50mb per day if I have google backup enabled. Turn that off and Android OS uses less than 15mb in a day.

Solved (Temporarily)
Found out that the issue is not persisting on nexus 4 and only in nexus 5. (Thats very strange.)
Temporary Solution until Google fixes this. Just root your phone and freeze Android System Update.
That will fix the mysterious data consumption issue.

I have a friend using Nexus 4 and he too has started facing the issue since 4.4.3 upgrade.
It cannot be completely solved but can control it so some extent.
Try flashing different kernels and see which one uses less data.
Or if that doesn't work, Root and intall Bloat free, Titanium Backup or any such apps and freeze Update Service, lge.com.update.
After these changes I've seen only 1-3mb of data being used per day by Android OS.

I faced the same problem, issue was somewhat with auto backup of data, sync of app data & people details in google account,
BUT the main culprit in my case was uTorrent application.
Even though there was no torrent added to it, i didn't even opened it,
it was using 1GB data daily on WiFi and in data usage it was coming under Android OS usage. I uninstalled it, everything went back to normal.
So try to look for such apps which eat up your data in background, it may not be an error of android OS as such.
Hope this helps, Press THANKS if it did help you
Enjoy
Hey guys,
I am having trouble getting through a single day lately. I don't recall exactly when it started, but the phone is only 6 months old so I can't imagine its a dying battery already.
Today I am seeing the following. Screen brightness is at about 60%. I'm completely stock, unrooted, running 5.0.1. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm actually experiencing this on stock and custom ROMS. I'm about to ODIN the phone. Tried factory resetting and wiping every single storage partition on the phone (minus obvious stuff like /EFS). Nothing helps. My phone also gets hot underneath the camera randomly when doing menial tasks. I'll let you know if ODIN helps.
I also came from a Note 3 which got great battery life, even on Lollipop. Remember that we've had Lollipop a few month before you Note 4 guys got it. OP is right. Something is seriously wrong with Lollipop on the Note 4.

Yeah, I actually noticed that actually. Once I flashed the stock COD6 kernel, the phone generally ran cooler (it would get hot for short periods of time, but never as hot or as frequent as with custom kernels like Emotion or Bioshock).
I just got done ODINing the phone. It's on the first bootup, on the T-Mobile splash screen. Hopefully this takes care of it. The previous owner never rooted it. It came with the official Lollipop update. When you take OTA's, it patches the system, so hopefully the issue is caused by a bad update.
I noticed one wakelock on before I ODIN'd (and hopefully no longer) was msm_hsic_host, which is modem-related. The modem wakes up every now and then to check on the status of the phone's connection to the network. However in my case, after having the phone unplugged for 4-5 hours, there would be a 1 hr 45 minute wakelock with little usage.

I get that to but have sync shut off. Apps who wake up all the time will give you that. Fb destroys it lol.
Hi there. One day, I went to sleep with 80% battery. I woke up with the note5 off... no more battery mmm the day after I turned it off before sleeping at 40%. Guess what? It did not want to turn on... no more battery. 100% stock Android never rooted almost still new .. turning me crazy

Mine is rooted with all the deepsleep fixes but still the same thing happens to me. And I cant find whats causing it. No wakelocks, no apps that would drain. It just seems like the battery acid magically vaporizes overnight. If someone can help us with this issue, please do. I'll be grateful.

If you look at the graph, till 10pm the device was fine. Then I checked for the time on the phone and let it just sit there. You can see the steep part where it's draining like hell. Then it stopped. Then it started draining again. I haven't touched anything on it. Just checked the time by clicking the home button. It just happened. I have no idea what's going on. I swear if this doesn't stop after marshmallow I'll snap this phone in half and throw it in the trashcan. There is no way someone could use this thing with this type of issues. I'm done with samsung.

Well, you see this whole problem comes from the fact that samsung doesn't open its sources to developers. No one knows what's really going on underneath the system. What kernel is really doing and what hidden services the rom has. The developer support for exynos devices is very little(thanks to those who are still trying despite the closed source code). My nexus 6(which I'm currently using instead of the note 5) had poor battery life. But thanks to open source kernel and aosp, now my n6 lasts me days with single charge. If anything happens, devs are fast to patch it up. So i think jumping straight to iphone is not really necessary if instead you can buy devices that welcome the dev support and community and are also more fun to use than iphone.

Yeah, no that's not it. I use the original fast cable charger- the same thing, and I use the wireless fast charger(yootech) - still the same thing. I don't think it's a hardware issue. I hope it's not, cuz I got no warranty on my N920C in the US.

I'm not sure to be honest. There are people in this forum that also have 920C and not many complain either. How would we know if it's hardware or software?
I charge mine overnight as I get to the end of the evening and its on 20% max. I will try to charge mine when I get home this evening and see what happens overnight off charge........I suspect the wifi will drain the battery as a minimum. Have you tried it with wifi off?

Did you rooted your phone ever or always stock? Actually i just try to understand a theory real or not??
Peoples talking about a chip, which is cracked when you root your phone and never let you reset your knox counter? and same chip, causes deep sleep issue! i want to understand, if deep sleep issue just for rooted phones, then this theory maybe true and this is so bad for samsung!!! but if same issue happens to completely stock and original phones (i mean non-rooted!), then this theory is a crap!
1) Do you facing this issue with never rooted phones?
2) when starts to drain your battery? after an update or install an apk?

As per their own statistics in the Battery Menu, I have no app that is "over consuming". As you brilliantly explained before, maybe Samsung is just not showing all the info? I might bring it to an official Samsung Store and ask them to change the battery at my own cost (even if it is still under warranty, because they will never replace it for free if they do not clearly identify the problem).
And if the problem remains, yep, I might become a youtube speaker showing how long a Note5 can survive in a washing machine.

no no as I said in my initial post, this device is almost new, has never been rooted and the only updates done were from the OTA process inside the regular menu....

Don't pay for the battery replacement. Tell them the issue and show screenshots. Ask for a solution. If they can't identify the problem they should give you a new device. You shouldn't pay for something that wasn't broken by you.
By the way, I'll be waiting for the washing machine video if anything... that would be so satisfying.

i am in
slept with 70%, woke up off, no more battery. And you know what? I also activated the super energy saver option that turns the screen black and white with very limited apps. It was giving me an estimation of 25 hours. More than enough to spend the night right? But no. Which makes me think more and more that this is a hardware issue... Need to find some time to drop it to samsung and update you...

Let us know what happens after you take it to the repair center. I personally blame the issue on a core process that eats up the battery but doesn't show up in the wakelock detector and the battery stats. It really happens randomly which makes me think that there is some switch in the system that clicks and doesn't click back making some process drain the battery. And it's also not a deepsleep issue so makes it even harder to guess what it possibly can be.

@umudeus Saygılar
Thats kernel issue 'IMO'.. I would prefer you to root and flash a custom kernel but as you know it will trip kn.. bla bla. I've faced the almost same problem with yours(Last %23 battery had gone in 6 hours, I thought it will sleep deeply but found it dead when I woke up in the mornin ). It was my bloody first day with my phone(btw its s6e+) and boom after two days rooted and flashed custom kernel Till now(and will go on) it was sleeping like a baby when I turned the screen off. (Extra: DS Battery Saver app has good options in the deep sleep case, >>HERE<< )(For Rooted devices).
Edit: If wonder; my deep sleep time is just %3 for 7H 41Min. See the attached shots
Sounds like a kernel or hardware problem. But, can you try something that helped me before, maybe it will help you as well?
Try to charge the phone with a regular 2A charger (I had my note 2's charger handy). Believe it or not, I said farewell to battery drain on my phone. (I used the note 2's charger for a few days, and then switched back to the fast charger and everything is fine: I get ~5h SOT before the phone reaches 5%).

You are literally the only person to have these results..
Stop spamming. You screwed something up while installing it (hard to do because I gave you the lines to copy/paste over) or you are running some kernel or ROM causing this drain. I'd like to see something other than the battery graph, to see what your app usage was...
Go home troll.

I actually wasn't trying to be a troll or spam. I'm on an AT&T V10 so I'm obviously running stock Rom rooted (as there's no unlocked bootloader yet). Only other thing I have from xposed is gravity box only for visual changes. I copied and pasted directly to the ETC folder as you stated was allowable later in the thread. I only asked to see because, like you said, it's hard to mess something up. Don't really appreciate being called a troll for asking a simple question....
Edit: only other thing I can think of is I changed batteries on a daily basis because I'm away from outlets for most of the day and have nowhere to recharge. I think I read something that the phone takes up battery on start up. But without this mod I would usually get 5-6 hours SOT and about 14 hours on a full charge

Your screen shot included nothing but a battery graph. No app usage, no explanation of what you are running / doing. And your saying "I'm rooted running xposed and all stock" is not you running stock. It is you running xposed rooted and probably with other small modifications here and there.
Just would be useful to not just come up here and make it look like this script magically destroyed your battery life somehow when it is literally nothing but basic shell scripts to modify very high level parameters of device operation. Like I said, you are literally the only person to ever have an issue. Post something useful other than "hey this is terrible here's a one off screen shot and no other information about what makes me unique from everyone else."
I didn't respond to your original question in the other thread because it was uninformative as to what you might have done wrong while installing the file. You posted a graph, then asked what you did wrong.
Good question. I have no idea. But obviously something because I've been using this for weeks now, and many other people as well and nobody has experienced this mystery battery sucking you are seeing.
It is important to note that your device will boot with all CPU governors set to "performance" which taps your frequency to max. This file changes it post boot, so if you didn't copy the file, or more importantly didn't set it's permissions properly afterwards, your device will be stuck running performance, possibly reboot, and certainly will suck your battery dry very quick.
You need to give me more if you want my help, otherwise I will ignore you. I do this stuff for a living and it isn't my job to be a test engineer for your device as well as my own.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes I meant stock Rom as in no custom Rom. And as stated all I have xposed wise is gravity box with visual only.
I'm going to try a factory reset as someone else stated and copy only your file and see what happens after a few days.
I'm no noob when it comes to flashing and changing parameters which is why I was confused about why this had such a detrimental effect.
Again I thank you for your hard work and all the positive things you've given xda on your own time. I'm sure it's just something to do with only upgrading from root and not starting fresh

I think it would be good if you post the command output of
Code:

and also a screenshot with the app usage stats.

@greekunit690 it might just be coincidence, but under your display settings try unchecking & rechecking the Auto option under Brightness. I've found that for whatever reason the brightness setting will get stuck at the highest level even though I have Auto selected. This has led to rapid battery drain for me when it happens.

Its not hard. Just follow the instructions and use terminal emulator to input the commands. After you do it once from the commands you can simply copy and paste the file in the appropriate folder and correct the permissions when an update is posted.
