Respected developers,
A few days ago I had installed kitkat 4.4.2 carbon rom. Then I got the news that 6.0.1 cm13 has been realesed . I watched a couple of videos on how to install it . It needed TWRP for installing it so I flashed twrp kernal.md5 using odin and I am not sure about the file name after that my device was unable to boot then I flashed the stock rom using odin . It worked . Now can I flash that file which I used before to get a twrp now ?
The .md5 file which I used was from xda.
Currently I am using rooted jelly bean 4.1.2 with a temp cwm
You can use this: http://www.androidiani.com/forum/mo...-cyanogenmod-13-di-polishvodka-s-advance.html
Download CM13.zip, install it with temp cwm, do a wipe data and reboot (if cwm ask you about root, select No).

Your only option is to flash the stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin,

Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,

CWM6 was designed only to flash CM 11( KitKat) based roms. You won't be able to flash anything other than that using it. Your rom might be working perfectly. But in order to install CWM5 in your current state, your only option is to flash stock rom back. You can't flash CWM5 from CWM6, similarly you can't flash any other roms using CWM6 either. So do a complete back up of data using Titanium Backup, flash stock rom using odin, install root and install CWM5. You won't have any problem with non-KitKat based roms. As for the KitKat based roms, you can either make any CM 11 rom compatile with CWM 5( thanks to @brijeshep) or use CM 11 rom flashable through CWM 5 (thanks to @Salim El Yabouri).
Make CM 11 ROM Compatible with CWM 5.x ~ Cooper Device

Once installed, you can restore the data back. Hope I helped

If you are on stock rom, flash philz kernel first and reboot to recovery , flash Raw kernel and reboot recovery and flash KK rom with gapps.

Yes permanent recovery.
Yes flash philz kernel in stock recovery. Do the factory reset and wipes in philz recovery. It will root your phone too but only till you flash another rom with or without root.
You can flash omnirom with gapps and don't flash superSU wouldn't have root.
Google for philz kernel n7000 and Raw kernel R4.

Hi
I updated CWM to 6.??? to try a KitKat ROM but I want to go back to a Gingerbread one. I don't know how to downgrade the CWM to 5. When I try and install a CWM 5 zip file via CWM it gives me lots of errors.
Is it possible to downgrade the CWM?
thanks

You can either flash stock rom via odin on comp and reroot, or download and install mobile odin ported to our device. And then flash the odin flashable cwm.tar file through mobile odin.

You cannot downgrade from android 4.x to android 2.x. That's because 4.0.4 and higher roms have a different bootloader. So don't try to flash gingerbread over kitkat, but if you tried and your phone didn't bricked let me know!!!

I know well what CWM stand for and what it is. I know he was asking how to downgrade from CWM 6 to CWM 5 but he was asking also for a downgrade from KitKat to Gingerbread. I just said that it could brick the phone.
For the CWM downgrade you must:
1) reboot in recovery mode
2) install the latest PX recovery for galaxy ace
3) reboot recovery
4) install CWM5
5) reboot recovery
6) done!

Actually downgrading from KitKat to Gingerbread will not brick the phone as long as you flash it through odin. Then again flashing any Gingerbread custom rom will not brick your phone as they are made to work only on CWM5. Hence flashing Gingerbread custom rom through CWM6 will only give you errors. Its always safe to install Gingerbread stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin/
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,

Well i mentioned it earlier in a post but still instead of upgrading to 6.0.4.7 mardon's new recovery has more feastures: Check this link.
But I recommend 5.0.2.6 as it can flash almost all zips without any problem whatsoever.
As written on mardon's page that 6.0.5.3_1 was ported to Ace for flashing his kk custom rom

About your remarks:
1. cwm 6.0.4.8/philz edition did not work. a) it has mount problems; b) it prevented android 2.3.5 from booting.
2. You, before editing, said recovery is independent of the rom on the phone. If this is the case, then why all cwm 6 versions are in trouble with /system on my phone? and why mardon said that won't work with stock rom?

Cwm 6 or 5 cannot mount /system /data or /cache bcoz cwm cannot handle samsung's filesystem rfs used in galaxy ace. This problem has no solution except changing to custom rom or using cfroot kernel which has ability to change fs type to ext4.also it is quite better than stock kernel. Proceed with caution. Also i think you need android 2.3.6 for cf root kernel. You can download official android 2.3.6 from sammobile.com and cf root kernel for s5830
from Google. Also do try cwm 5.0.2.6 once it can work.
And btw flashing 2.3.6 will wipe data cache root everything.
If you choose to flash 2.3.6, try cf auto root kernel. Cm roms use ext4 by default with quite better kernels.

I was lazy to give you full answer there.
First on 4.4. our developers repartitioned preload partition to use it as a swap, and on 4.1.2 there were some apks. So if you want to go from 4.4 (and 4.3.) you must repartition it with this guide.
Then you download SlimKat or OmniROM and use its kernel to get TWRP, extract its ZIP and copy kernel to phone (it is boot.img in root of ZIP file). Then install Universal kernel flasher and some root explorer from the Play store and install kernel. When it is done go to recovery (you will have TWRP) and restore your backup.
P.S. You can use CoCore kernel with TWRP too. But the process is the same.

You get a bootloop because CoCore is for Stock ONLY. You can't use CoCore on any other ROM than on Stock based one.
@shut_down
My zip to restore is needed in 4.4 ROMs based on Team Canjica sources built till 14 June, after that date (since we removed /preload as swap partition on 15 June) is no longer needed with new builds this is only an info, most of the users don't know neither on what build they are :silly: better to continue to tell them to flash that zip before restoring that kind of ROMs, nice work.
