Unlocking the bootloader VS phone warranty - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

XPERIA Z3 Compact D5083
Original Factory ROM
Unrooted
Hello all,
I've been wanting to root my phone since I got it last month. The only trouble is that I'd also like to keep my warranty.
After looking through the phone for a while, I found this in the service menu
"Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: yes"
I was wondering if this means I can unlock the bootloader and root the phone while allowing the phone to remain under warranty?
Also, would flashing a recovery mode void the warranty?
Any and all help will be appreciated.

Your warranty will be void if you install custom recovery, that thing in the service menu means that it will allow to unlock the bootloader, some phones have this set to no so they cannot unlock the bootloader in anyway possible, but anyways your warranty will be void if you try unlocking the bootloader.

[Q] Bootloader Question!

Hello fellow XDA'ers. I have a simple question. I'm not entirely sure what happened to my phone (Xperia TX) but for some odd reason now it says that my bootloader is locked. When I know it was unlocked previously as I've used custom ROMS before. The question I have is does that mean that my bootloader cannot be unlocked again? Whenever I put in the service code it says that Root Status: Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No
I'm not sure what caused this to happen and whether or not it can be fixed.
If anyone knows and can help I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you in advance
If you had 'Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes' out of the box, then there's nothing to worry about, it is unlockable and always will be.

[Q] Root Access and bootloader unlock status as No.

What can i do to root my phone, i searched around a bit and all i can find are the tutorials to do this with the Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
i dont really care about the DRM camera problem as i use the camera very little and have no problems with unlocking the bootloader but i cant seem to find info on how to do this with the " Bootloader unlock allowed: No" status .
any help is greatly appreciated.
Z3 Compact Model: D5803
At the moment there is currently no root solution for locked bootloaders unfortunately, a bounty thread has been created here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/bounty-root-unlocking-bootloader-method-t2940539
Where did you buy the phone? Is it possible to return for a refund and find a retailer that sells unlockable models?
On the other hand, bloatware can be removed via ADB on unrooted devices. Thread in Z3C android development section
O2 store, oh well happy enough to remove the bloat ware as mentioned above.
Thanks for the swift reply guys really apreciate it.
Stay classy.
I'm not really sure, but maybe you can do that by installing an other stock Romney using flashtool or the pc companion or Emma if you have an operator customized phone, that maybe why it is locked

[Q] Void warrancy and root without BL unlock

Hi to everyone!
I just find that it's possible root our phone without unlocking the bootloader (and lost the dmr key).
What about the warrancy? If I root in this way I'll void it? or what?
Thanks in advance
Once you unlock your BL your warranty is essentially gone.
Because you can't undo the process (unless you backed up your TA partition).

I'm not sure I understand - the OP asked if the warranty will be voided if he roots the phone using the newer method without unlocking the bootloader. Or do you simply re-lock it later with this method and the warranty is still voided?

That's why I said that the warranty will only be voided if you unlock your bootloader. All other things like root etc, you can just revert and Sony will never know it.

Root in locked bootloader and warranty

Hi, sorry if it was answered before but i don't seem to found it.
I bought a z3 compact d5803 international gsm unlocked, and I'm confused about root, warranty and drm keys.
If I gain root access but keep the bootloader locked (i saw it can be done with some kind of exploit), do i loose warranty and/or do i lose drm keys? My bootloader can be unlocked, but don't want to do that if not necessary.
The current android version is 5.1.1 (compilation version 23.4.A.0.546).
Thanks in advance!
Hi! Anyone can help?
Thanks in advance!
Try this one
Thanks for your answer. I look at that thread before, but I don't see any reference to warranty, that's why I need to know. If rooting without unlocking bootloader void warranty or not.
Thanks in advance!

Re-lock bootloader

Hi,
Some time ago I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device. Didn't know it was possible to root without unlocking the bootloader (yes, i'm quite new to rooting etc.). Now my phone has a defective headphone-jack and I need to send it on repair. Anyone know how to re-lock the bootloader so I still have the warranty?
Currently running sLIM 4.8 by Wajk.
Use flashtool
Thanks, but it says on Sony's website that the phone stays unlocked even after using flash tool?
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Never done it in Sony phone but most of HTC, Nexus and few other brands I'm locking just with this command.
