Wi-Fi stuck on turning on - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I am having issues with the WLAN on my HTC One m7..
It's stuck on turning on.
Can't turn it off, can't turn it on.. Can't bypass it by using airplane mode or anything like that. I am running a custom rom called soul by xiaoxiang, it's a Chinese rom that I can barely understand since I'm Dutch..
The rom ofcourse has built-in kernel mods.
I used TWRP -> Advanced -> File Manager -> data/misc/wifi to delete the wpa_supplicant.conf and files like that, have tried deleting some other files, nothing seems to fix it.. It's just stuck on the part where it's 'loading', in the quickmenu it looks like it's just turning on, except for the fact it's stuck.. When I tap the 3 dots below WLAN in the quickmenu, it says it's off in the top, and I can go to the 3 dots and only tap Advanced, the others are just greyed out..
When I go to the Settings menu, it says Airplane-mode Off, Wi-Fi Error, Bluetooth Off, etc. So it doesn't say it's either on or off, it just says Error. I can tap the 'switch' of the Wi-Fi on the right in the Settings menu, but it will just become greyed out when I tap it..
Any help? I'm trying to avoid a factory reset because when it still won't work then I will have lost all my apps and data and need to use mobile data to download it again which will cost me a lot of money..
Can't send it back, warranty overdue.
Related topics without fix (I've searched for a long time before deciding to post it here, there are some people especially with rooted/custom rom htc one m7's who have a similar problem but there is no fix):

My g1 problems

heres 2 annoying problems i have been having with my g1.
basically after i turn on the device, wifi is automatically off. Even though i turned it on before turning the device off. I must go into system settings to turn on wifi after each boot...this sucks.
also, also when i turn the device on, my emails are not pushed to me. To get emails pushed to me i must go to setting then data syncronization then tick all of the 3 settings below applications sync settings
i am currently on cyanogenMod -3.6.8.1 ...however i cant remember 100% but im sure when i first flashed this rom, these 2 problems did not exists.
any ideas?

Wipe and reflash should do it if you didn't have those problems before. You shouldn't have to format your ext, so you shouldnt loose your apps.

[Q] Mobile data notification constantly on top of the stack

Hello guys,
i've been following your forum for quite some time and it's been helpful for me so far, but two or three days ago i came across a problem, which i cannot solve and didn't find anything about it here or on the web, so i decided to register.
I'm a owner of Xperia Z, Android 4.1.2, 10.1.A.1.350, not rooted. Couple of days ago there were some updates available, some not important app like Xperialink or something, and since that day the "mobile data tuned off" notification keeps popping up on top of the stack in the notification bar and it is freaking annoying. Usually on top i had an email with part of it that i could already see, or a missed call with the icons "call back" and "send a message" what was really usefull, but now, because of this data transfer notification, nothing like this is showing (check the attached screenshot). The "clear" option does not work for this notifaction, neither can it be swiped away. Has anyone else stumbled upon this problem and maybe solved it?
Thanks for your time and any useful advices in advance
Szymon
Dang, really no one? :|
maybe you should click 4th icon from left side and it might be gone ^^
I don't speak Polish, but if I'm not mistaken the message says "Mobile data disabled".
This could be because you've switched off mobile data manually from the quick settings, or because in Power management settings you have "Low battery mode" enabled and one of the options it to turn mobile data off. Turn off Low battery mode or uncheck "Mobile data off" and you should be sorted.

Yes Sushifiend, didn't know yesterday how it was called in english. I've checked what you wrote and it wasn't that, anyways i got low battery mode set to kick in when there is only 5% battery power left, so this couldn't be it. :|
Thanks for trying to help, but yesterday i even did a "back to factory settings" and after that and installing all the updates this problem returned...
Any other ideas or maybe someone else had this and managed to fix it?

I have had a similar issue, and wasn't related to any power save options ticked, but connection drop outs on my phone. It hasn't happened now for a while when I manually went in and selected my operator and re downloaded the internet/mms configuration. Although this phones radio is a bit flakey with drop outs still

[Q] Wifi doesn't turn back on after call.

I tried asking in this in the thread for the GE Rom I downloaded but got no answer so I'm trying my luck here. Basically what happens is when I finish my call wifi just doesn't turn back on unless I go into settings and manually re-scan even when I leave the range of my AP and return home I don't have this problem. It's a minor annoyance to an otherwise perfect ROM does anyone have a suggestion on what I could do?

Desire 500 - touch problem

it often happens that the touch crashes, go freeze, it does not work, and I must press the power button to turn the display off and then turn it back on and unlock go again to resolve. Has not happened only to the display unlock, but sometimes even when I used it. Do you know what it is, what comes from and maybe how to fix?

*sigh*
is your phone rooted?
do you have my kernel installed?
have you tried flashing stock already?
If yes then probably h/w problem-go to service center.
no, the phone is immaculate
Hello!
Please, check if internal memory of phone is not full.
-in Settings, tap Storage, take a look on Phone storage - Available
If memory is full:
- run storage wizard to clean memory - Settings, tap Storage > Make more space
- remove or delete photos, downloads, files etc. on internal memory or move them to SD card
- unistall unused Apps or move used Apps to SD card
- set Camera storage to SD card
This helped my colleague on Desire 500 with similar problem like Yours.
unfotunately is not a solution for me....wont work

I have a friend who has this phone and experiencing the EXACT same problems, now even considering to chuck the phone out and buy something else. Doesn't anyone here know if it is possible to fix this somehow? Is it some app that is running in the background that is causing it and that you can then disable/freeze to remedy the problem.
Rooted and flashed custom kernel Kangbang on it...
Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated.
You advice me to try first a new touch-digitalyzer or motherboard?

I actually found what worked out all the problems for my friend in the end.
Use an app freezer to deactivate all the stock apps on the phone that you're not using.
If you know what you're doing you can also disable some of the services etc.
I disabled most of the Google stuff like Google Music, Maps, Books etc etc. and that made my friends phone very happy.
No more hanging, no more issues with the touch screen.
Also another related issue he had was after I rooted and made it work nicely the phone would not get picked up by the computer as a "Media device" under Windows anymore. Turns out you have to disable USB Debug for it to work correctly. I disabled USB debug with the phone disconnected from the computer, then after that was done I restarted the phone to verify that the USB debug (under developer options) had been completely disabled. THEN I plugged the phone into his computer and it all worked.

WiFi Problem - Only Solution is Flight Mode on/off -maybe this will solve our problem

Ok, I bought this phone two weeks ago and I was really happy, the first 3-4 hours. It seems alot of people have the same problem, it similar to the one with HTC One wifi. When I don't touch my phone for like 2-3 hours, while wifi is on, and I return to my phone, everything seems cool. It shows at the top that it has wifi but when I try to do something that requires internet connection, it fails. It still shows wifi is connected. When I check under Settings>Wlan the only Source it shows is the last router I was connectected to.
Logically what on will do in this situation is to switch on/off wlan. But in this case, it will show me "out of range". So the trick here is to turn on/off Flight Mode and everything will work again. But it sucks to do this 4x-5x time a day. So I called the support and they told me to do the following:
1. Go to Settings>Wlan click the three dots at bottom right
2. Select "Wi-Fi Direct" and click "rename device" at bottom right
3. Rename your phone to "htc desire_626g" and click ok
4. Now go back to Settings>Apps, this time click the three dots at top right and then "reset app config" or something like this
5. Hold down volume up + power key until your phone shut down completely.
6. Power on your device like normally and everything SHOULD be fine.
Right now it has been 4-5 hours I did what they told me and everything seems fine. Wifi is still on and I tried to not touch my phone for this time because the problem was always when I did not touch my phone for some hours. If this solves my problem I will be very happy and I don't have to send it for fixing. Hopefully it will help other new buyers too. Greeting from Germany
Same problem here, lets try if it works
Same problem
I have the same problem. I tried your advices, but problem is still here. Has anyove solved?
Did you tried a hard reset?
Same here, it doesn't help
I had the same problem until today when I received an OTA software update from HTC. The update's build number is 1.04.401.4. After applying this update my phone (a HTC Desire 626g+ Dual Sim model) has no issues with losing wifi any more.
