Update (1
I removed the sim card, started the phone with out it, powered down, and reinserted the sim.
I was just able to create new APN with the below settings (ST website), I did notice that in the beginning with I was using the new APN’s, that the signal bar had 4 – 5 bars, but at no time did the LTE or 4G symbol ever show up at the top.
Sometimes this new APN shows 4 bars, and no LTE?4G, sometimes 2 bars showing, and the LTE/4G symbol is showing. But can't open a single websites, was able to get one short text through, but took a couple of tries.
(3) ST website
APN: wap.tracfone

I’ve been using Straight Talk for about five years, floating back and forth between AT&T, and T-Mobile smart phones.
Normally this is easy as pie, and straight fwd. But so far I used about (5) different T-Mobile APN settings for my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5, and none of them are working.
I bought this phone off eBay, and it was less than I month old (there’s not mark on it anywhere), and it was listed as “Clean ESN”. I’ve bought several phones used via eBay, and ever had an issue. I checked the phone, and it came back clean.
1. Rather than going on ST website, and activating my new phone, and sim card, I call support. The agent took my sim serial number, and activated it. About 30 minutes later I lost network connectivity with my former S4 phone, so I figure the Note 5 was ready to go. I went with a live person, because I was hoping to do (2) things, register the new phone/sim, and get a new phone number, as moved out of state a couple weeks ago, and want a local number. Agent said I would have to wait until Monday, call back to get a new number.
2. I sent a text to a friend, but it didn’t go, after few minutes it would come back with a fail. After retrying I few times it finally went through. I had the same issue, with trying to call. It will have 4 or 5 bars, you make a call, then it will say “mobile network not available”, and then the signal bars turn into an X
3. After creating the first new APN, and restarted the phone, and after boot, I have 4 – 5 bars, but then it will turn into an X. My phone will sit there with 4 – 5 bars for like ever, then when I send a text it it will start losing bars, and the got a X.
4. I’ve created about 4 or 5 new APN’s, and they all do the same thing, once in a while a text will get through. WiFi works great, can surf the net all day.

Try these ...first is default..second u can manually switch to in low signal areas :
First:
Name - T-Mobile LTE
APN- fast.t-mobile.com
Mmsc leave blank BUT if u want to try adding it or have any issues try it
http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC 310
MNC 260
APN type- default,supl
APN protocol ipv6
APN roaming protocol ipv4
Everything not mentioned leave blank or not set as it comes when you add a new apn.
This other one Helps me pickup the HSPA that is still around me although being phased out
Name: T-Mobile HSPA (obviously u can name however)
APN- epc.tmobile.com ( no typo it's without - in T-Mobile
MMSC- http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
APN type - default,supl,mms
APN protocol ipv4

Just got my Note straight from the UK, unlocked. Been on the phone with ATT about 6 times. I can send and recieve calls, texts - but no DATA. They can't seem to figure out why it will not pick up the ATT Data Network. Sim, EIN all linked, but no joy.
I am a noob, sorry - any ideas. I hate to send the phone back.
Any ideas ?
Update - Funk2641's response below (no APN was entered) - fixed it the issue.
Still, ATT would not give me a 4G smartphone plan - even though the H+ shows up next to the clock ? Initial Speedtests look like the same as my Infuse, Atrix and 4S.
Thanks everybody (Funk2641) for your help ! I hope this thread saves some agony for many as this phone is hitting the states. Don't know if I will tread in Eurospec for the Nexus, as I will want to hold that one in my hand first.
Also, this is a great phone - speed, battery life and the screen is fantastic !

Thx.
please keep posted.....I'll be on Att Friday
I will follow this thread since I will also switch from T-mobile to AT&T.
I too have the same issues. I actually used a few different apns and got edge to work poorly, I sighed and told myself ICS would fix it all up better and to just enjoy the extra battery life of 2g now, God I hope a get this cleared up

Technically, the Note is just a big SGS2. There's no reason on the phone side you should be having a problem using the Cingular APN. I'm using a ISGS2 and a UK 3G Tab 10.1 on AT&T with no problem. It's either something with the provisioning of your account or your Note may not have the right bands (Asian?). The latter is unlikely if you ordered it from the UK. Try reseting the APN to default under network settings. Also, if you're on a legit 4G plan there's a specific APN that you can find on the ASGS2 forum.
Here is another APN that works, I had the same issue
For APN settings use the name ATT and then for APN the word phone. Leave everything else blank-what is needed will get filled in automatically. Click the APN when you finish adding it and the radio button turns green to indicate it is working. The advantage to this APN setting is it gives you clear access and data speeds are not limited by ATT.
Those apns didn't work and I too a would doubt my phone bring the Asian version,.this version of gingerbread has the option to suspend my data network from holding down the power button maybe the software isn't...... I don't know I have no clue but my apns are normal but when's search they don't come up
In the list automatically so something a wrong
and I came from a hspa+ phone so my plan is already to go, I called to double check
to op, glad you got it straightened out...who did you order from and how much?

There are two different APNs to use depending on what data plan you're on. If you're using a MediaNet or Data for non-Smartphones plan (3G) you need to use the Cingular APN. If you're on a legit 4G plan you need to use the special APN for 4G phones. If you reverse it, you'll get no data. For those of you on the 4G plan, go in to the APN settings. When you press menu, there's a reset to default option. It should pull the 4G settings down automatically. If you're on a 3G plan don't do this and instead manually enter the below settings. If you do this correctly you should get data. If you have a quad-band phone and still can't get data it's something with your account settings and not the h/w.

I know there are plenty of global-network related threads on here, but the majority of them were made back before the OTA update and reference the complicated stuff while leaving out the more basic stuff, like *where* to set your APN.
I've got a standard Telus SIM card (from my old Milestone, which was just barely hanging on in a few vital areas... proximity sensor flakes out, headphone jack has been repaired three times, GPS no longer works...) and just trimmed it with scissors based on this guide: w w w . techradar . com /news/mobile-computing/tablets/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-or-iphone-4-micro-sim-681020 (sorry, can't post links so remove the spaces...) I'll note that I marked which corner of the SIM was "rounded off" before cutting, so I wouldn't lose track. (just make a little mark at the edge of the "chip" contacts in that corner.)
Opening the back of the battery cover without the original opener tool isn't as nice as it could be, but I've successfully used staples and a mechanical pencil tip.
One you put in the SIM and power up the device, you'll get an "unknown SIM" error, but it should still start fine.
After I got through the setup stuff, my phone worked for dialing and receiving calls, but no data. here's what I had to do:
[menu]->[system settings]->[wireless and networks: more...]->[mobile networks]
Make sure [Data Enabled] is checked.
tap [global data roaming access] and set it to [allow access for all trips]
Scroll down to "GSM/UMTS settings" and tap [Access Point Names]
tap the [menu] button and [new APN]
Use these values: (from: androidforums dot com /hero-support-troubleshooting/45005-mobile-network-apn-settings.html#post348959)
Code:

Recently connected an ICS Verizon Droid 4 to Telus but am now getting -100 dBm signal both inside and outside the house. Old Milestone never had any signal issues, whatsoever, inside or outside.
I created the Telus APN using the correct settings, which got me H data. Then, I went through the network settings, manually chose Telus, manual set on GSM/UMTS (not global), and set to UMTS only for network. Still only 1-2 bars max, always.
Any ideas or settings to change?

I very rarely see more than 2 bars. My old Motorola xprt was this way until it received an update than the signal meter was more accurate, I think it something you just live with.
Question have you tried to setup call fowarding? It doesn't allow me say I am roaming.

I plan to purchase this phone and based on the specs I've seen it should have no trouble on the new Telus/SaskTel network here in Saskatchewan (Please correct me if I'm wrong). Just a quick question for those of you who have the phone, can you or do you have to root this phone to delete the unnecessary bloatware that comes on the phone?
Thanks in advance
Does anyone have a T-Mobile Moto X running on Net10 (ATT network) and getting LTE working?
If so, what APN settings are you using?
I purchased a nano ATT Net10 SIM from a reseller who cut it down to size, and it came with instructions which make me believe it might be an old SIM because the enclosed directions said to use:
Name: NET10
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracphone.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
-----------------and additional info on various websites also suggest:
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth Type: PAP
APN Type: default,supl,mms
If I delete the main proxy listed above and leave it blank, I can connect with 4G (HSPA+) but don't see LTE coverage areas. If I don't delete the proxy, I get nothing.
The settings for a new ATT SIM are very different, and didn't seem to work at all. Is it possible to even get LTE with the old SIM? I'm new to this SIM game. If I have to get a new SIM, can my existing 30 days be transferred to a different card?
Also, for the first couple hours it all acted very wacky. It would work, and then all of a sudden put up the icons saying the phone didn't have a SIM card at all. I'd pop out/in the card and reboot, and it would come back. Lost it this way 3 or 4 times, but it hasn't happened in a number of hours now. Would this suggest the cut-down nano SIM wasn't the best trimming job?

Is the LTE symbol lighting up? Mine came from Quality One Wireless in FL for $0.99 (http://www.net10wirelessphones.com/Net10-sim-card-byop-kit.html). Don't know if it's the same seller as you had on ebay. Did yours come with a red activation card showing the settings you used, or ones more like the ones I listed? I'm on NET10, and I run the stock APN settings given by the NET10 app on the Playstore, I was too lazy to reinput some of my old crazier APNs.

I get LTE, and everything functions accordingly.
Don't worry about the sim card, I cut mine by hand, it takes a few bits to set up the radio and all the fit bits within. After the first day, everything is fine.

The tfdata (the APN that's also provided through the NET10 app in the Play store) APN is the correct one for getting LTE. I had the same problem, as I was unable to get data on tfdata and only getting HSPA+ on the wap.tracfone APN. I called the BYOP support line (1-855-333-CELL) and they verified I had the tfdata APN settings correct, then "updated my line." Boom, LTE.

I'll give that a try soon. Got a new nano SIM I stamped out of a micro directly from NET10 and not a reseller. Need to port my existing Verizon number out via Google Voice and sell an existing Verizon Unlimited Data plan via an AoL before picking up NET10 again. Found HSPA+ pretty good during my trial run, so it should be even better with LTE. During my test I think the old SIM I was using created the problem as nothing using tfdata worked at all.

I'm really pleased with the HSPA coverage, so much that I would've left it as is if I could've gotten MMS to work. It's nice having that fallback, especially indoors or out in the boonies.
I bought my SIM from Wal-Mart. Strange, I would've expected SIM cards from official channels would work better than the reseller ones.

I just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile this week with my VS980.
I've been able to get the phone setup and working mostly.
I'm picking up LTE, but it's slowish. Usually only picking up 1 or 2 bars and tot more than 12 mbps down/1 mbps up according to Speedtest, though that might just be my area. I'm in a larger city but still in the Midwest.I can make/receive calls just fine. I can send and receive MOST texts. Some text messages/calls I'm not receiving. Specifically, I have my online bank account setup to require a code which the bank sends via text message or call and my phone does not receive either, even though I'm getting texts/calls from other sources. This is actually kind of a big pain for me and if anyone could help me solve it I would be most appreciative.
I'm running CM 11 nightly. I did flash the 12b radio. I haven't tried the 24A radio yet.
Preferred Network is T-Mobile, although I've had the phone search networks a couple different times and there is always 3 T-Mobile networks listed and I'm really not sure if there is a difference or if there is a specific one I should be selecting since there is no way to differentiate them.

I would think it's just cruddy coverage except it seems to switch between the three modes when sitting in one place, and sometimes it will lose data altogether and it won't come back until I reboot.
My APN settings match what is online for metropcs. I tried selecting "automatic" in the menu that comes up when you dial *#2263# but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
Any ideas how I can get a more stable LTE connection?

I would go to Metro PCS and have a new Sim installed and have them refresh the features on your account/ device.
A Tmobile phone on Metro should perform almost like a Native Metro Phone ( Metro has no Note 4 )-
