T-Mobile Moto X on Net10 (ATT SIM) w/ LTE? - Moto X Q&A

Does anyone have a T-Mobile Moto X running on Net10 (ATT network) and getting LTE working?
If so, what APN settings are you using?
I purchased a nano ATT Net10 SIM from a reseller who cut it down to size, and it came with instructions which make me believe it might be an old SIM because the enclosed directions said to use:
Name: NET10
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracphone.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
-----------------and additional info on various websites also suggest:
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth Type: PAP
APN Type: default,supl,mms
If I delete the main proxy listed above and leave it blank, I can connect with 4G (HSPA+) but don't see LTE coverage areas. If I don't delete the proxy, I get nothing.
The settings for a new ATT SIM are very different, and didn't seem to work at all. Is it possible to even get LTE with the old SIM? I'm new to this SIM game. If I have to get a new SIM, can my existing 30 days be transferred to a different card?
Also, for the first couple hours it all acted very wacky. It would work, and then all of a sudden put up the icons saying the phone didn't have a SIM card at all. I'd pop out/in the card and reboot, and it would come back. Lost it this way 3 or 4 times, but it hasn't happened in a number of hours now. Would this suggest the cut-down nano SIM wasn't the best trimming job?

Is the LTE symbol lighting up? Mine came from Quality One Wireless in FL for $0.99 (http://www.net10wirelessphones.com/Net10-sim-card-byop-kit.html). Don't know if it's the same seller as you had on ebay. Did yours come with a red activation card showing the settings you used, or ones more like the ones I listed? I found more information about settings which made me try the one I have at: http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2012/09/how-to-setup-straight-talk-data-and-mms.html

Good settings are the ones that work. Your mileage may vary.
Cheers.

I got same problemas here.
The tfdata APN don't work on my moto x .
But the mvno APN works but h+ no LTE any help?
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk

I'm on NET10, and I run the stock APN settings given by the NET10 app on the Playstore, I was too lazy to reinput some of my old crazier APNs.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tracfone.net10.datasettings&hl=en
I get LTE, and everything functions accordingly.
Don't worry about the sim card, I cut mine by hand, it takes a few bits to set up the radio and all the fit bits within. After the first day, everything is fine.

The tfdata (the APN that's also provided through the NET10 app in the Play store) APN is the correct one for getting LTE. I had the same problem, as I was unable to get data on tfdata and only getting HSPA+ on the wap.tracfone APN. I called the BYOP support line (1-855-333-CELL) and they verified I had the tfdata APN settings correct, then "updated my line." Boom, LTE.

I'll give that a try soon. Got a new nano SIM I stamped out of a micro directly from NET10 and not a reseller. Need to port my existing Verizon number out via Google Voice and sell an existing Verizon Unlimited Data plan via an AoL before picking up NET10 again. Found HSPA+ pretty good during my trial run, so it should be even better with LTE. During my test I think the old SIM I was using created the problem as nothing using tfdata worked at all.

I'm really pleased with the HSPA coverage, so much that I would've left it as is if I could've gotten MMS to work. It's nice having that fallback, especially indoors or out in the boonies.
I bought my SIM from Wal-Mart. Strange, I would've expected SIM cards from official channels would work better than the reseller ones.

[Q] ATT Vivid on Tmobile... 3g? 4g?

I plan on getting a Tmobile sim card and tossing it in my Vivid, getting the $30 a month plan and using it till I get a different phone.
Any chance I can use 3g or 4g on it? I've heard mixed answers about it being possible as recently Tmobile "flipped their network" or something like that. Just curious if it as ALL possible to get 3g or 4g data on mah vivid. Thanks

In case you still need help, here is what I suggest:
For the unlock, use unlockusa.com to get your code. They're the fastest and most reliable on the market.
For the internet, use the following settings for your APN (Credits: http://htcsource.com/2012/08/how-to-sim-unlock-the-htc-vivid-and-add-t-mobiles-access-point/) :
Name: T-Mobile.com

weird, those are the apn settings i'm using. how old is your sim? they switched over to these settings on the sims starting a few months ago. if you have one from earlier in the year you have to use the older ones...... is all i can think of.

aha! thanks for suggesting that! my sim is about a year old, so after reading your suggestion I looked up an older APN setting and all is good now
I understand the newer sims allow us to use LTE - is it worth making the switch?

depends i guess. it's nice to have and maybe a little faster than hspa+ on straight talk, but it's not going to change your life or anything haha. that said, i believe the sims are still on sale for $6.99 and the transfer was easy and seamless for me on their website. for $6.99, "why not" is what i said.

Thought I remember reading somewhere that Verizon Moto X was SIM unlocked for international use only. Sounds like the kind of thing Verizon would do.
Not to sound like a douche, but this has been discussed many many times, and the answer is: Older Verizon handsets were "international" meaning they had international bands but wouldn't work on US networks. That's since changed, as now all Verizon phones that have GSM capabilities are unlocked for US networks and international GSM too.
The issue the OP is having is not based on the network working at all, it's that his data specifically won't connect. OP, I'd double check all the possible APN's you could find online and see if changing them would work. Remember, H+ is all you'll get on a VZW Moto X that's on ATT's network.

I'm happy with hspa+ but I can't get the APN settings to save.
It could ultimately be an issue with the way VZW "modified" the firmware. When on VZW's network, APN's aren't editable at all. I'm assuming you're able to edit them as you're saying that the APN's won't save, but sounds like it's giving you the option to edit them.
Try these various APN's
Code:
APN: phone

mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net

MNC:410

I haven't cancelled my verizon line yet. Would that affect anything. Do I have to do a factory reset before using another carriers Sim?
EDIT:
May try using something like an app to modify the APNs, such as this > https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker
That's honestly the only thing I know, if the phone won't let you add them from the system settings.
You shouldn't have to FR the phone just to use another SIM. If that were the case, then using the phone globally wouldn't work right as the APN's wouldn't sync up. I don't think that having the line active on VZW would hurt it either because ultimately, the device needs the SIM to even register on a CDMA network, let alone LTE.
There's bound to be a way to save the APN's properly. If it's allowing you to add them, then there should be a way to save them. Does it give you the 3-dot menu button? Or a button at the bottom to save or anything?

Yes there's the 3 dots then save. When I click save it goes to the main APN screen and there is no APN profiles there.
Just to confirm, you're typing a name for the APN right? Make sure that under mobile networks, the network type is set as LTE/GSM (or Global, I forget the option), and that roaming is allowed, and then try the APN. I wish I had my ST SIM active so I could test this with you.

[Q] Question: Pure X, ATT, and LTE

There is a thread about people running into LTE issues with a Pure X on ATT. When the X was first released, ATTs system did not recognize it as an LTE capable device. People were able to use a couple of different methods to get this corrected and by long discussions with ATT support. That thread hasn't been updated in a while. Is this still an issue or have all the kinks been worked out? I'm about the order a Pure X today, so I want to know what I'm in for ... a simple SIM swap from my 2013 X or if I'm destined to run in circles with support to get things up and running correctly. Thanks.
AT&T sim works fine for me on the pure edition. Decent LTE signal for sitting in a concrete building.
Sent from my XT1095
Issues have been resolved. I moved from Sprint to AT&T on a new sim and have had LTE from day one on pure edition.
Thanks.

I use my Pure on AT&T, it's worked since day one for me.
I recently updated to 5.0-11 and ever since my LTE/Data hasnt been working. It was working fine on 4.4.4. Any ideas whats wrong? I went to the ATT store and they said my APNs were correct and everything, and my account has LTE enabled.
I cannot say for sure, but when my colleague received the Lollipop OTA on his Pure Edition, he lost LTE DATA connectivity and after playing around and change his APN for the newest at&t Mobility APN which did the trick for him. Oddly the APN he originally was using is still a perfectly valid APN (the "phone" APN), but for whatever reason no longer worked in his Moto X 2014 Pure Edition.
I should point out that others on Reddit actually had the completely opposite experience where by the phone was automatically provisioned with the nxtgenphone APN and had to swtich to the "phone" APN to get DATA back.
The APN which worked is as follow:
Name: Nxtgenphone (or whatever you may want/like)
APN: nextgenphone
Proxy: None set
Port: None set
Username: None set
Password: None set
Server: None set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310 (Should already be filled in)
MNC: 410 (Should already be filled in)
Authentication type: None set
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri,fota
APN protocol: IPv4 (might be already be set)
APN roaming protocol: IPv4 (might already be set)
Again, that did the trick for my colleague, but others on the internet actually the polar opposite results, so I really do not know what to say other than good luck.

Project Fi model on AT&T LTE

I have the Project Fi Android One version of the Moto X4 and AT&T service, and I was wondering if anyone else uses this model on AT&T and has gotten LTE to work? I've been in touch with AT&T support, gave them the IMEI, gone through the APN settings, etc. but could never get LTE to work. I do have HSPA(+?) working, but would really like LTE. The sim card I'm using is the same one that I previously had in my old Nexus 5 and it was able to use LTE. If anyone did get it to work, could you let me know the steps you took? Thanks.
Mine worked out of the box on Cricket (AT&T) with no problems. Do you know what bands AT&T uses in your area for LTE?
Any joy on this?

I've not got a solution as I've not hooked-up on Fi yet.
HOwever, I'd like to know that, if the Fi network doesn't do what I need it to, I can go back to ATT (The Devil I Know)
So, I'd like to know if you've had any luck resolving this.
Scott Sands
I used FreedomPop's GSM SIM which uses AT&T and had no issues. Initially it may come up as H+, but it will settle into LTE usually within a few hours.

I used my Fi x4 on Cricket (AT&T MVNO) for a couple of weeks to use up my prepaid time before I activated on Fi and LTE worked fine for me also. I think it's probably something on AT&T's side, keep calling them or go into a store and bug them until they straighten it out. There's no technical reason why it wouldn't work.
