My htc one m7 doesn't turn on anymore. The phone was perfect untill i woke up in the morning to find out it wasnt charged, and i couldnt turn it on again.
I tried Power + volume up, i tried it with volume down and also all three buttons. For more than 3 minutes each while plugged in the wall. When i plug it in usb nothing happens.
Did i try everything? Is my phone dead? I can accept that but what can i do to save the storage? I only need to access the files and transfer it to my pc
Please help!
can't i just take out the back plate and take the sd card?

The sdcard? Unless you have a dual sim variant, there is no sdcard in your phone. The emmc (memory) is soldered to the motherboard and can't be removed. If the phone doesn't boot you can't pull any data from it, sorry

Oh thats too bad. Thanks for the reply
Would it be possible to repair it? Like replacing some parts. Can that be done without losing the data?
i called with a repair service
ofcourse they will take money just for looking at it, even if they cant fix it. I would like to know, because some members here are more experienced than some professionals, what are the chances (given the situation that even usb doesnt do anything) that a battery replacement can fix this?
That would cost 90euro. I have no problem spending that amount, i just have a couple important notes that havent been backed up. And a couple screenshots i really need. If its going to be in the range of 200/300 i can only think about it if the repair procedure doesnt touch the data, because then repairing is useless.

Hi,
This is an old phone now that I switched to the EVO, nevertheless, I would like to resolve this issue if it is resolvable. I broke my Sprint HTC Hero's USB port a while back. The device is rooted and can power up (with the help of a charged battery from my evo. It can do just about everything except download for some reason. I can access the market, internet via wifi, you name it. I haven't been able to access the sd card though. I have an sd card adaptor, so I could copy any files I needed onto the sd card, but I don't know where to go from there. I heard that the usb port can't easily be repaired as a separate item. If anyone has any ideas or if anyone can tell me that I am wasting my time, I would appreciate both. Just want to put this baby to rest.
Thanks

When you say Broke do you mean Physically, or is it just Not Recognizing its Plugged in? I had a Similar Usb Port Issue also in the past, but I Fixed it by Installing Pcsc11

Unfortunately for me I mean broke. I don't know what to say other than it was a lot of bad luck that day. I was in a huge hurry. I was driving and needed gps desperately. My battery was going dead. My kid's charger was plugged in where I usually plug in my charger. I thought it was mine and forced it in. The prongs are history now.

Ugh... That Sucks!
What Exactly are you Trying to do with it? Fix it to where it could be Hooked back up? Or just Fix Everything to have a Spare phone?
Since you Now have a Evo I'm guessing it would be just to have a Spare... but as far as the Sdcard issue, I Don't really see why that would be giving you a Problem? Unless that's a Separate issue?
Why fix it? I guess it just bothers me to see it - ha ha. I really liked the hero. If I could get it to work, my wife might use it, who knows. The sd card might be a separate issue. If I can't fix the usb port, I guess the rest really doesn't matter.
The phone was plugged in to my computer (I was doing development) and was running all the time. Suddenly, while I was not doing development or doing anything, the phone died and I have have never been able to turn it on again.
I've tried:
Hold the Power button
Hold both Power and Volume down button
Take out the battery and put it in again
Replace the batter with another one from my friends' working-perfectly-fine Galaxy S3
The result is the same: no response from the phone at all - it's completely cold, no sound, light or vibration at all - all I've seen is the blank unchanged screen so please don't ask me about the start up screen
What can I do?
*Notes: I've read this thread but my warranty has ran out so bringing it to Samsung is not really the best option.
Recovery mode download mode ???
Usb Recovery Jig to access download mode ,
As mentioned, I have already tried holding the Power button and the Volume Down button so no recovery mode for me

Suggest you read the basics faqs and guides first .

Did this ever get sorted? Mine is doing the same.
Won't power on whatever I try.
As the OP never posted again suggest you take it to a service centre .

If you are going to replacet the motherboard and use the same phone, your data should still be there.
If you are going to use a new phone, you have to take out the hard drive and connect to it to get the data from there.
There is no hard drive in the Galaxy S3, just an eMMC flash chip soldered to the motherboard.

Are you sure all people on this forum are developers? Also, just what kind of developers?
Again, my answer could be wrong but how can it cause problem for others?
Let's break it down:
I said data should not be lost after motherboard replacement
There is no action required here so how can it lead to anything harmful?
Last time I checked, the data in my S3 was still there after its motherboard was replace
Taking out the hard drive from the phone was the part I wasn't sure
As of now, I can see that it's apparently wrong as someone pointed out
However, if there is no hard drive ==> how can one take it out ==> how can one damage anything?
How can I be responsible for anything here?
What do say now Mr. smart developer?
Please provide something concrete and convincing.
Don't waste your time, don't waste mine
After checking my hard brick phone by a bestbuy technical, i was told my phone was totally dead. The phone wouldnt connect to PC, can't do power charge, no any response even the jig method. And the data is gone. However, I am not sure how the data backup works. maybe they just don't wanna do it or their lack of doing it.
Normally, the data recovery from damaged hardware is expensive. cause it need plenty of time and they probably think the customer wouldn't pay for that.
Directly replace a motherboard could cost less than repair it. In some cases, could even replace a new phone cost less than a new motherboard. Technically, backup data from hard brick phone could be possible.

Similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3. Mine turned off randomly and wouldn't turn on again for half a day each time. The last time it happened it wouldn't turn on for a day, so I tried the DOWNLOAD MODE combination, cancelled it, got prompted to RESTART PHONE then it turned on again.
I took in my phone directly to Samsung Customer Service in Albany, Auckland (for New Zealand people). They found that the "current was not stable" and all they had to do was replace the mainboard. It only took them half a day to repair and it was covered by warranty. He said the cost of the mainboard, outside of warranty, would cost around NZD $260.
Replacing mainboard shouldn't affect your memory but it is always best to back up your phone via Samsung Kies (or something similar) before taking it in for repair. According to the Samsung guy, in New Zealand, they are not legally allowed to back up a customer's data on any of their computers, but there is no harm in asking them if you trust them to do so.
Hope this helps

Replacing the main board replaces all data except the External SD-Card, as the EMMC is built onto the motherboard, they can always backup the /data over QPST, where it isn't readable by any program except that one.

If you replace the motherboard you are going to lose all your information. All the information its in the old motherboard so there is no way to save your data if your motherboard is replaced.
Hi guys!
I've read lots of topic at this forum about this problem. This is my story:
I forgot to charge the battery, leaving 8%. The next day the phone was switched off. When I tried to switch it on appeared the battery symbol and the blinking red light. Then the phone fell and did not react to anything longer.
I tried different chargers to recharge it. Also via USB.
I also tried a combination of keys: power+volume button+light to sensors. Every combination.
What is important: the phone is NOT rooted. There is oryginal software.
Today I gave the phone to the service. And my question is: is there a chance to fix it without losing data? I pointed out that if they wanted to delete my data - that called me. But I want to know if it is at all physically possible to repair it without losing data? If yes - I will tell them that I don't want to repair it in their service and try to do it alone.
Thank you very much for advice!
I don't think they will repair it without wiping data
BTW your problem is quite strange, it wouldn't have to brick like this

Why do you think so?
If breaks down something with charging/power they usually change the entire motherboard, or perhaps only certain components?

if there are very important data you might want to discuss the situation with them carefully. If there are data that are more worth than your cellphone, then you might have to pay them a bit more that they make some kind of special repair.

Hi,
My phone was damaged by water (yes, I did close all openings properly...) and the repair center tells me that it can't be repaired. My problem is that I would like to dump the internal memory in a way or at least destroy it before leaving it for recycling. It is possible to get contact with the mobile, but since the screen doesn't work I can't unlock the device and therefore PC companion and/or the device won't let me in via USB.
Is there another way? Perhaps remove the memory physically?
Ther is a method. If you are patient, constant, and have basic skills of linux commands

Why? The phone is broken. Unfortunately I don't know where the memory is. But just hit your phone with a hammer
until you can see the mainboard. Remove and destroy all removable parts. Destroy all chips (with a hammer and a
screwdriver). Break the mainboard in two (or more) pieces and dump them on different places. I think this should be
save enough.

As you said that the screen is not working, I assume the phone itself starts. You could try to connect a mouse via otg to your phone and unlock the screen. Then you'll be able to delete you data with the pc.
Also you could try to unlock the bootloader, as this will also remove all your personal data.
If I was wrong and your phone doesn't turn on anymore it's useless trying to delete the data, as no one will be able to read it ( if the phone doesn't turn on your mainboard is already broken)

Hi,
I had the same problem with my xperia z, my phone fell in the water... so now the screen doesn't work at all, but the charging led still work... unfortunately when I connect the phone to the pc, i can see the external drive, but cannot access to it... doesn't work... could you please tell me how can I read the memory with linux?
thanks a lot for your help
Hey everyone.
So I've got a question that I'm hoping you guys / girls can help me with.
I have this old Lumia 520 that fell to its inevitable demise in 2014. The digitizer is cracked and unresponsive, but the screen itself powers on fine and isn't damaged from what I can tell. I saved what I could from the SD card I had in it, but there was still a lot of photos that I wanted that was stored on the device's local storage.
Here's the thing though, I cannot access it from my PC via USB cable unless the screen is unlocked, and I can't unlock it because the touch panel is broken! And so the phone has been laying in a drawer ever since.
Is there any workaround to this? Some way that I might be able to save these long-lost pictures? I really have no interest in repairing the phone. If I can get the photos off it I'll probably just throw it away, as I have a way better device now anyway.
Cheers! :good:
