Odin root may or may not be possible on the ATT variant, only time will tell.
It time to return s5

I saw a post from Chainfire indicating he was releasing auto-roots for a bunch of variants today(he didn't mention which ones but I've got my fingers crossed). Apparently the current bottleneck is Sammy's crappy d/l servers.
Looks like no dice with Chainfire, at least for now. https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/JVxv5298wdU
Apparently he needs the recovery extracted from the firmware. I checked sammobile.com for our firmware and they haven't put it out yet. I sure hope they do.

Yeah thats the part I'm not following. Can't I pull this from the Phone with Odin and send it to him or does the dump function not work on the S5?

You can't usually dump the recovery partition without having root...usually a custom recovery is needed...hence he needs the firmware which contains the recovery partition.

Just curious if we will be able to root without a unlocked bootloader. With other devices I don't recall that being an issue. But then again this is the first one I've had that's been this locked down.

CF root likely won't work if the ATT BL is locked, but the only definitive way to check is to get the firmware and extract the recovery, send it to CF and have him package something up and then have someone flash with Odin, if the BL is locked, then it will either fail to flash, fail to boot, or worse, also once you flash anything not deemed official you trip the knox warranty flag and your without a warranty..

T-Mobile Jump Program

Hello, I just got my Sony Xperia Z1S a couple of weeks ago and I'm on T-Mobile's Jump Program. I understand how the program works but I'm wondering if I root the phone and put a custom recovery on it will they say I can't jump to a new device when I'm eligible?

They can easy find out if you are rooted or not by seeing the boot loader its binary change for good if you root.
Only some devices have binary resetter.
so think and take you next step.
Press thanks if I helped you.
That is incorrect.
The boot loader on a Z1s can not be unlocked.
You can always unroot Xperia devices by flashing a stock ftf and no sign of routing is left.

without unlocking boot loader how can we root ?
You follow the one of the several guides in the development section.
Unlocking the bootloader is not the only way to root and since a lot of Xperia devices can not unlock the boot there are lots of ways to root with out touching the boot loader

Unlocked bootloader is always rootable.
Locked on other hand is sometimes HARD to root.
So if you can't root locked bl, it's easier to make tutorial to root with unlocked.
Since z1s can't unlock bl, it's mean it is locked, he rooted that way.
If he unroot, or flash stock rom, no trace of root is left behind.

But its always, to me, nice to have the boot loader unlocked because you can do a lot more in the hacking sense with no worries. All of my other devices that have the BL unlocked are all easy to save if you some how bricked it. No need for rsd lite / sbf your Moto device. Plus all of my devices where I unlocked the BL, I had long after the warranty expired.

T-Mobile doesn't lock their bootloader. Is there some reason to believe that will change with Android 5.0? It certainly will undo root.

Ive been a HTC guy. new to Samsung and I have the at&t version, I want to return it and get T mobile again. I just wanted to know if this was going to be for nothing, after the lollipop update.
It's been so mush fun hex editing, s-off and all that stuff. and if it will continue after the update. from what I've read they are changing the way the kernel boots up.
thanks for the help.

there might not be any other way; after all, 5.0 encrypts your entire phone, so one could assume the bootloader has to be locked for that to happen..

In past TMO Samsung phones, custom recovery changed the Current Binary setting from Samsung Official to Custom. That alone disabled OTA updates. I suspect it's the same on the N4.Perhaps someone who rooted prior to the NJ7 update can confirm.

Just be sure to read the posts about s-health and private mode. If you can, don't use s-health until after you root and if you plan on using it, disable secure storage in wanam. Otherwise you're going to get some annoying lag.
Also if you're going to flash a custom ROM and want to use the fingerprint scanner, make sure you use the scanner on the stock ROM first. Folks are having issues on custom ROMs if they've never used the scanner beforehand.

rooting att s5 on 4.3 after I've switched to t mobile

Okay, so I've searched and searched and haven't found an answer for this. I have a galaxy s5 I bought from att a while back, I have since unlocked it and switched to t mobile. I'm needing to root it but after I roll back the update with odin (?) then will I be able to upgrade again with the same process? Or is this cross platform fubar not going to work? I need to get my native tethering to work. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Well for starters, a little more info about the phone would be helpful. What are you currently running, firmware version etc.
Looks like 4.4.2 and it's a g900a. It's also been Sim unlocked and the IMEI had been swapped. But everything else is from the factory AT&T.

If your on 4.4.2 then towel root should work. If it don't then just download the NCE downgrade file from the OP of that same thread and flash using the AP slot in odin 3.09 then use towel root again. I have used that downgrade file and total root numerous times. If your on 5.0 them don't use any of it as it will not work.

Sort of related, but I have an S5 on 4.4.4. I know I will need to downgrade temporally to perform the rooting process (no big deal, I had to do manual tweaking on my DROID 4 during its rooting process), but at this time my phone is unlocked (g900a). Will the process listed in muniz_ri's tutorial ruin the phone's unlocked state? I've never dealt with GSM stuff so this is all new to me.

I presume you are referring to the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920T)?
If so then yes you can flash SU and TWRP via Odin and install a compatible ROM through recovery.
That's because the bootloader is not locked. Or at least at the moment with 5.1.1

Yes. The T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T) does NOT have a locked a bootloader at present.
The S7 however does and the suspicion (though unfounded at the moment) is that once T-mobile releases the Marshmallow update for the S6 it may lock the bootloader. Thus, it is probably going to be a good idea to wait on taking the Marshmallow update as soon as it is available (if root is desirable).
So will any normal Roms available for the standard GSM s7 work with the T-Mobile model? Also, is installing twrp as simple as something like a Nexus? I haven't been in the ROM game for a while, thanks for the help guys

For the umpteenth time yes. You just need to make sure that whatever ROM you want to flash is compatible with the T-Mobile S6 variant (SM-G920T).
There is a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Android Development forum here at XDA which will have a number of different ROMs to choose from as well as information and support for said ROMs.
