Need help rootint my Moto X XT1502. - Moto X Q&A

I need help guys, I tried rooting my phone using a mac and it says "Illegal instruction" and thats because i have an outdated OS, but when i try rooting with Windows 7, it says "unsupported variant" how do I root it? Please help.

Maybe you need to install your usb driver.
Do you already unlock your bootloader? If not unlock your bootloader first.

I unlocked my bootloader buddy, installed usb drives too, it says unsupported variant in the adb

If you have already unlock your bootloader just flash custom recovery (twrp or cwm), then flash supersu from the custom recovery.

RAZR i Root 2 (Jellybean 4.1.2)

Since the ICS root files fail to work on Jellybean, needed to work with new files to make it work. This is based off the open-source ChainsDD Superuser 3.2 (RC) x86 version, with an update-binary from the RAZR i to make sure it flashes.
On top of this, I added a live to remove /system/etc/install-recovery.sh. This is because whenever the phone booted, it removed CWM, and thats definitely not something we wanted it to do! So all is well. This file (RAZRiRoot2.zip) is included in the new Jellybean Vodafone (FR) Homemade fastboot of mine also. Its less automated for rooting since the boot.img method is weird with Windows drivers...
Anyway, here we go.
Requirement(s):
Unlocked Bootloader on Jellybean
Download:
http://batakang.com/ftp/RAZRi/RootUtility/RAZRiRoot2.zip
Instructions:
Flash this in CWM to root any Jellybean RAZR i firmware.
nice Bro.

Same here for me
Edit - I was able after some trial and error to boot into CWM using ADB and flash this. The problem is that CWM is lost and wont work after I reboot to bootloader/normal powerup. If I want to ever boot into CWM 'on-the-go' it is now impossible. Each time i wish to use CWM i have to plug in and re-flash using ADB. Flippin' weird if you ask me.
What adb commands did you use?

You choose Recovery from fastboot, then flash the RAZRiRoot2.zip.
If you boot normally then it will wipe CWM, since the root zip never ran to remove the install-recovery.sh
flash CWM + reroot

I have used:
from windows cmd, with USB debugging on
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery-razri-tryAtouch.img
fastboot.exe reboot-bootloader
selected recovery and installed the RAZRiRoot2.zip from external storage card.
now rebooted and my Jelly Bean is rooted and CWM remained the recovery
is there any way to get supersu working instead of superuser app? some apps are only working with supersu somehow... e.g. light manager.. light manager needs root to work with some apps, but the superuser app does never recognize light manager attempts.... any idea?

HSD-Pilot, thanks for the response. I should've come back and edited post to advised solved using fastboot, have since moved from VFR jellybean to EU Retail jellybean and been able to get root back easily using fastboot boot cwm.img, then flashing razriroot2.zip in cwm.
Only issue so far was force closing contacts app - cleared data for that app alone and it's solved.
I will buy a Razr i and I wanna know if I can first update for Jelly Bean via OTA and after this finally unlock the bootloader and so root this... If it´s possible, it´s better unlock de bootloader before or after JB update?

Yes you can update via OTA first. It doesn't matter if you unlock before or after it. But root after OTA with RAZR I Root 2 through cwm.

Good! If I want to unlock the BL on JB, should I use the zip file of this thread or the zip file of the "Unlock the bootloader"? Is someone working in a locked bootloader rooting tool? Because I saw on a brazillian topic a way to root wihout unlock the BL, but only Ice Cream Sandwich..
Thanks!

The zip file of this thread is only for rooting. To unlock you need adb and fastboot software/driver on your PC. I think you can download this from the unlock thread.
Yes root without unlocked bootloader only work with the old ICS version ( 31002)

Probably I will update to Jelly via OTA, wait a little more time (to see if the phone came working well and wait for a rooting tool wihout bootloader unlocked). When you talk about CWM, it´s just install this apllication after unlock boot? So I go to an option like LOAD ROM or something and select the zip file?

No I mean clockworkmod recovery, a custom recovery which allows you to backup your ROM and install custom ROMs and stuff like this. To install cwm on RAZR I you have to flash a cwm.img via fastboot.
I don't know if rom-manager app support RAZR i, but i don't think so.
And I don't think that there will be a rooting tool for unlocked bootloaders for jelly bean.

Thanks! My phone actually is a Optimus L7, wich LG haven´t unlocked the bootloader, so I heard about recovery, custom recovery, Clockworkmod and other stuffs, but I have no clever idea of what are these tings (xda video was right, i´m a noob.. haha). Just a few more questions:
1- Fastboot is what we got after pressing the power button with Volume- button, right? It´s like a normal PC bios. How can I use this menu? Look like they are too small to touch, so something like Volume+ to Enter and Volume- to navigate in the options.
2- I need CWM to root, or can I use Fastboot?
3- To flash CWM (or root, if possible) in Fastboot I need to use the computer or I can flash the files in the SD card only using the cell phone?

TWRP 2.7.0?

I've got a Moto X Developer Edition with an unlocked boot loader and running TWRP 2.6.3. I see there is now a 2.7.0 and I'm curious, does the latest version of TWRP work on the Moto X? I don't want to flash the update if it's not going to work. Thanks.
Edit: I see there is a 2.7.0.4 actually.

Yes I used flashify to install TWRP recovery 2.7. Just download correct recovery for your phone and use flashify to flash the recovery. If have used it twice for the moto x and it works perfectly.

I've never used Flashify before today. So much easier than hooking up to the PC going into fastboot to update TWRP. Took all of five seconds. Thanks.
http androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/MotoX/ you can download twrp 2.7.0.0 for moto x. Installing it is easy, all you need are the motorola phone drivers, the android sdk and motorola fastboot. You need to unlock your boot loader of course first. You can probably flash from an app after unlocking the bootloader, but you will need to be rooted for it to work. If you never used fastboot before there are lots of tutorials, but just use the motorola one.

A couple questions: first, did you use any of the root 'exploits' before you unlocked the bootloader? If you did then you need to return to Stock before you can flash custom recovery.
Did you use 'mfastboot' to flash TWRP? If not, try that.
There is one individual I helped that had a similar issue. We never figured out what the problem was, but I had him follow the instructions in the "Return to Stock" thread to flash the entire Stock SBF for their carrier, and afterwards the recovery flashed PERFECT. If you do this, be SURE to flash ONLY the same version you are currently on. Do NOT 'downgrade' or flash an earlier firmware version.
Now you have some ideas. Let us know if they help resolve your issue.

Questions go in the Q&A section.
@FlexZer0,
As @samwathegreat mentioned, if you have rooted using something like SlapMyMoto, RockMyMoto, or PwnMyMoto, or have used MotoWpNoMo on this phone, you'll probably want want to flash your full SBF to get back to stock. (make sure you use the EXACT same rom as what is currently on your phone!!! do NOT attempt to downgrade!!)
In addition to that, something that is VERY important... immediately after flashing custom recovery, you want to reboot into bootloader/fastboot mode and go into recovery. You do NOT want to flash recovery and then reboot normally. For some reason this step is necessary or the recovery doesn't "stick." For example, see steps 8 & 9 at -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738
Now, if you follow that entire process, please keep in mind it was written/posted a while ago, so it has older links to mFastboot, TWRP and SuperSU...
The latest can be found at the following:

SuperSU -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738

Thanks for the replay guys I know how to boot to the recovery and how to get into the fastboot mode. And I have moto x carrier free which means it's does not locked with the carrier like AT&T and Verizone etc. So whenever I searched for the exploits I only found the exploits for carrier locked versions of moto x.

OK, good.
Did you try my advice from Post # 2? Flashing the entire Stock SBF for your carrier? Then after a successful boot, flash TWRP again, and afterwards, type:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then use VOL DOWN to select recovery, and VOL UP to select it?

[Q] Best way to root No carrier Moto X running 4.4.3?

Hey just wondering what is the best way to root a No carrier Moto X running 4.4.3?
I am assuming it's the XT1053, so: unlock the bootloader on Moto's site, flash TWRP, and reboot. That should prompt you to install SU and you will be rooted. You can check the stickies in the general thread for more detail.

yes, except that.. using the bootloader unlock code and flashing TWRP or other recovery is done via Mfastboot, not ADB.
I've only used Rashr to flash recovery from the phone (no PC involved), but it needed me to be rooted first. So initial TWRP flash and root was done via mFastboot.

Under developer's option, there is a check box to enable oem unlock bootloader, so I don't think it was the cause. I can use adb to boot into fastboot mode. And with Flashfire.apk developed by the well known developer "Chainfire", I can even backup the whole phone and flash .zip file without custom recovery. However, If the system crash and cannot boot, you cannot get into the app to restore it. So, porting the custom recovery is crucial.
Use fastboot to flash the recovery image then?
Pretty sure the check box for enable oem unlock bootloader is on every v10 version. It's just that the only one that it actually *works* on and actually unlocks the bootloader is the USA t-mobile version.
