Hey everyone,
I got my Tilt in April and at that time AT&T did not offer phone inssurance for it. The far right side of my mini-usb port is bent a little and this makes it a bit picky about charging and syncing. AT&T said it voided my warranty and that they couldn't do anything and told me to call HTC and they said I would have to replace my WHOLE MOTHERBOARD. They also said it would cost $305 to replace the whole thing.
My question: is there anything I can do about this myself? I am so concerned because I would like to sell this to a friend but get the port fixed if possible. Is there any other way to get AT&T to get me a new tilt or fix "something else wrong with it"? I can still sell it to my friend but I could get a bit more for it if this was fixed.
Thank you for any help.
You can fix this yourself by installing a new mini plug, they are fairly cheap, there is a few threads that have discussed how to do this yourself , if you do not mind taking apart your tilt...
Check the Wiki out as well
Or maybe I could have just been rude and told you to search just like you did to another user earlier...hmmmm
That was a fairly obvious question. I have not been able to find any specific threads about this for the kaiser. Also did not find it in the wiki. But it would be easy to over look seeing as I must type all this from my phone because my computer is dead at the moment. I will look tomorrow at school.
put in mini plug in this forums search , there are a couple of threads with decent info in them.. one of them has a link to taking the kaiser apart, and also has a link to a place the has the mini plug for $15 and also will says they will install it for $79....not bad if you do not have the skills..
PPC Techs are the ones offering the service

Since my soldering skills suck, this is what I would do...
my girlfriend threw my phone down and now the track wheel won't work and it won't stay in sleep mode. I need a little info on what tells the tilt when to come out of sleep mode. then I will need a guide to take it apart . I can find the guide on my own but if someone has a link please post for me because I will not attemt untill I can speak with someone who knows how it works. the phone was threw down and hit on the upper left corner. It still seems to work other than it looks like crap because I have to take it apart and repair the clips that hold it all together. Thank you to anyone trying to help .

Warn me when your girlfriend is in my area, ill move into the bunker!
edit; might be worth trying a warrenty repair first (say it just stopped workign randomly?), opening the kaiser up voids the warrenty straight away.

Might be smart to change a girlfriend when you'll sort out your phone
thanks for the link. LoL. she threw it because she was trying to snatch it away from me. when she pulled it away from me sh e also hit herself in the eye. she has a black eye from hell. that thin g is like a brick! I have no warrenty so I don't have to worry bout the void. and as for the girlfriend , she cut the **** cuz she can 't live w/o me and knows who daddy is. Love is a strange thing. By the way, if throwen properly, the tilt can withstand one hell of a wap. she is offering to pay for a new case, I just gotta find one. anyone know HTC's # ?
Check the folks at www.ppctechs.com
They sell parts, do repairs, etc. Work is excellent, quick and returned within a few days. PRICES ARE GOOD!
Was your phone in the pocket? If so, then hang onto her.
MOds feel free to move if in the wrong section
**I also have searched this problem before creating a new thread
I recently dropped my phone(thats in a hard plastic protective case) approx 2 feet onto the ground. I picked my phone up pissed at my clumsiness and i noticed the phone was still working perfectly fine but everything that is supposed to appear dark is now light and vice versa. Im kinda low on funds right now but i was wondering are there any alternatives other then a screen replacement
Just checking in I have tried a few things any input would be appreciated...I think im going to go to cingular
I will post up pics to show what the phone looks like to help others who may experience this problem
It could be false economy attempting a repair yourself

I wouldn't go buying a replacement screen off the bat, it may simply be something like the flex cable has come slightly ajar. A good repair centre that know their stuff will correctly diagnose it, only replacing whats required (possibly saving you money from buying parts that aren't needed).
Thanks now my next issue...lol is finding a reputable repair shop
I have been to two places thus far and one person looked at my phone and simply said thats going to be $140 to repair before taking it apart or any diagnostics and another place wasnt even familiar with my phone so the search continues
And thanks for the help
Hey I was just looking on eBay and found this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-G1-ANDROID-...ell_Phones?hash=item439b98bb44#ht_2866wt_1168
He says he can fix radio bricked G1's
I don't believe it but who knows
THIS IS A REPAIR SERVICE FOR ALL HTC G1 PHONES. IF YOUR PHONE IS BRICKED OR THE SCREEN GOES TO G1 LOGO AND FREEZES. ALSO IF THE PHONE POWERS ON AND IT GOES INTO THE BOOT MENU THEN A TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMTION POINT THEN IT CAN BE FIXED. I BRICKED MY PHONE AFTER I INSTALLED THE RADIO TWICE AND I WAS WITH OUT A PHONE FOR 2 DAYS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH AND READING ALOT OF FORUMS. I FOUND A WAY TO UNBRICK MY PHONE.

EDIT: What mode does the G1 go into when you press the scroll ball in and power. I did it just now and a blue LED popped up, could this be a way to unbrick? I'm sure someone else found that out though.

he offers no proof, no explanation, and he's just annoying by typing with all caps. even if he did have a way to unbrick a bricked g1, i wouldn't let him near mine because i'd be afraid his poor internet etiquette would attach itself to my phone and infect me.
My thoughts exactly, I wonder how the people in HTC flashes the boards. I was looking up and found out about jtag a long time ago but thats probably it. I'm no pro though lol.
There is still something inside saying "what if..." haha. Well I'm glad my G1 isn't bricked *knocks on wood*
Ebay is a place where a bunch of low life people go in hopes they can rip off people who dont know any better.
Unfortunatly it just shows us that a lot of humans are scum.
No need to post this here, if it happens you will probably hear about it here first.
yeah ebay can get pretty sketchy. and besides, for 75 dollars? he's probably just gonna buy another g1 and replace the motherboard which can easily be done for under 50.
I cracked my screen so I decided to order a new one and fix it myself, while in the process I accidentally tore the top flex circuit board and now I can't find spare parts other than screens anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get some or have one that is broken I am willing to pay ...
Hate when **** like that happens. . . try to fix something and something doesn't go right.
Not sure where you can get the parts you're looking for, but wanted to give props to you for taking the initiative to try and fix it yourself. Alot of people will be like "that's what you get for not just sending it back to HTC and having them fix it." How're you going to appreciate the intricacies of something if you don't take the occasional risk like this?
Hope you find what you're looking for.
Ps. Have you looked at http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp to see if there's anything you could repurpose to work?
Ha yea, I am definitely a DIY-er. Unfortunately this is a risk I knew I was taking heading into it, wasn't too worried though because I have fixed a lot of cell phones in the past, just got a little too careless with prying open with a flat head screw driver, it slipped and cut right into the flex circuit board. Should have been a little more careful haha. New screen looks great though! Now only if I could get it to power on! Of course HTC tells me it will cost up to $300 to send it to them to fix it.

Not sure exactly, but is this what you are looking for? http://cnn.cn/shop/google-nexus-digitizer-p-8252.html
Yea I tried that number and also that lunacommerce site is located in China, no prices on their website, no way to purchase anything other than contacting them first (which I have tried to no avail...). You would think some online store somewhere would have started selling spare refurbished parts. Whatever, guess I will have to pay HTC to fix it, kinda sucky.
If you find somewhere that can help you, please post back. I just had a similar experience, replaced the digitizer and the display wouldn't work afterwards. Figured I had damaged the AMOLED, so purchased another. Problem still persisted.
I've decided that I must have damaged the AMOLED connector on the logic board.
The upside is I can still use the phone when connected to a PC and using Android Screen Monitor.
So now I've ordered another Nexus One, I find it hard to get by without my daily Android.... it became an expensive drop of the phone.

No that is what I replaced in the first place. I am looking for the Logic Board. I will keep searching and update this thread if I ever figure it out. Going on 3 days without a phone and only being able to use Google Voice via my computer is starting to drive me insane!
