4K/1440p Resolutions - Remix Mini General

Since the announcement of the remix mini, the 4K resolution support was one of the major features that stood out, and personally made me decide to purchase one as soon as i could.
When the mini arrived, i was incredibly disappointed to see that the mini could not display a resolution higher than 1080p, which made the image quality in my monitor look below par.
After doing research that night, i found out that the mini as promised had 4K support at some point, but it was later removed due to some SoC issue, and Jide stated that they where working alongside Allwinner on a fix. That was back in 2015, or around 8 months ago, and no updates have been given. I personally wrote to Jide several months ago, and i received the very same answer above. This seems to be a topic that Jide is not discussing anymore, and it is extremely frustrating. The UHD resolution support is one of the major selling point for me and my peers (which canceled their orders when found out about the lack of 4k support), and to know that Jide promoted the Mini as being capable, and it was and option to be later removed, makes it even worse.
If Jide and Allwinner determines that 4K output is not possible as initially promised due to problems with the SoC, 1440p is another alternative resolution that could works for us, and that i have seen being requested, but i have yet to see an answer by Jide. If someone from the company reads this forums, a proper response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I just bought and received a remix mini. On the box it says 4k support. It is a bit disappointing to learn that it really isn't supported.

i'm still pissed of that it doesnt play Dolby Digital Audio or DTS like every other android player out there does. And they wont supply any knowlede or reasons for it either...

November already. The new Remix IO is announced so I guess there will be no more support for the mini... Didn't even allow 1920x1200 which is kind of disappointing.
What do you guys do to reduce the font size so there's more information visible at limited resolution?

Bump, Jide really need to update us on this...

[Q] 720p recording?

Ive read anywhere that the sgs doesnt recorde vid at 720p only scales it up, is this right? and if yes can I do a "real" 720p record with a mod?
I've never heard this. I've made several 720p recordings and they've come out crystal clear with no signs of upscaling
Sent from my GT-I9000
I've heard such rumors too, but from what I've seen, it's based on assumptions (a group of people recording in 428p, and then 720p who said they can't see the difference).
I'd say it's unlikely. Because it possibly takes almost as much CPU to upscale video, than simply record 720p in the first place (unless the internal bus has insufficient bandwidth).
Remember, there is a lot of crap floating around XDA which simply isn't true. Always request proof (or you can even test it yourself). And also remember, that I have noticed a few users with a lot more "thanks" than others, that were actually thanked for presenting unproven information as fact.
Honestly, the best thing to do is prove it yourself. Take 2 videos and compare them as a blind test. Or find a way to prove it. But here on XDA, it's better to assume statements are wrong until proven otherwise, than assume that a member of the community is correct..

Galaxy tab 8.9 vs 7 plus

Sorry guys for using this section but it is the only one for the 8.9
I would like to buy one tablet but I'm wavering between the 8.9 and the new 7 plus
the 8.9 is cheaper but the 7 plus can make phone call and got a microsd slot
help me to make this choice
thanks
For what will the tablet be used? Will you still carry a separate phone?
usually I carry another phone but in summer a bring on beach just the galaxy tab 7
If you plan using it as an extension then I think you already have made your mind.
Sent from my GT-P7310
+1 i will go for 8.9 for it bigger screen
I use my Nokia n9 as a phone, my MacBook air as a laptop, my tab 8.9 as a reference material viewer. I think I wouldn't be happy with a 7" screen, my physics books won't view well.
Then again I can't tell until I try it :-D
make phone call is a good features sd the sd slot
I think I will take the 7 plus (7.7 would be perfect but probably will be out on 2012)
I had a 10.1, but sold it for a 7.0 plus, and highly recommend it. The Exynos is screaming fast compared to the Tegra 2. This is especially obvious while playing video.
Video is truly night and day, I can't believe how lousy the Tegra is for that. The 7+ will play any and all video I threw at it. But dang, the size of the 8.9 is perfect. Hopefully Samsung will give it the upgrade and the best of both worlds.

I am a happy owner of an unrooted 7+ and I have yet to run into a 720p video in any codec or bitrate that the little bastard could not run perfectly smooth. I have no RMVB videos but I can't imagine it will have huge issues but if you send me a link for such a video then I will be happy to test it out for you.
As for the topic of the thread:
I have the 10.1 as well and the Tegra 2 is a travesty. It is a horrid and terrible product which should never have been allowed to be used as the reference chip for Honeycomb. For this reason I went with the 7+. If anyone thinks everyone with a 10.1 is cheerful with a Tegra 2 running then you have not watched the threads prior to the nation wide USA release of the 10.1. Even after the 10.1v was confirmed as using the Tegra 2 we still held out a glimmer of hope for the Exynos 4210 and a MicroSD slot. The 7+ has both of these and I even found it at 350$ with 3.5% sales tax at Microcenter.

Does this issue only happen during video playback or any graphics in general? I thought Tegra 2 is supposed to be very good! :|
I do notice some lag even when using the homescreen in 10.1, din test 7+ enough to tell, after I have tested 10.1 and 8.9, the 7+ seems just too small! And I am worrying about the future support (ICS) for 7+ as it seems the odd tab with that resolution. As with Samsung products, the ones that gets updated are those that are popular, and looking at how thing goes, seems like 10.1/8.9 is (going to be) more popular.
10.1 with the HW accelerated homescreen roms works fairly well unless you want to watch video. Honestly I only want a tablet that can play the stuff on my computer while I lay in bed and the B&N Nook Tablet almost managed it but the 7+ got it down 100%. Holding my 10.1 after using the 7+ was fun though. So huge in comparison.

I feel the exact same way about my (ex) NT. But the locked bootloader killed it for me, and I'm back to the search for the optimal tablet for me. How would you say the 7+'s screen compares to the NT? I really loved that I could sit outside and see everything perfectly on that screen. Would you say it's worth the extra cash and not waiting for the 7.7 (assuming the 7.7 isn't actually $700, as speculated)?

I just returned my NT and picked up the 7+. No regrets at all! I was betting on the 7.7 not being out for a while and being too expensive. so I went ahead and took the plunge. If the 7.7 comes out soon and is reasonably priced, I'll throw the 7+ on eBay, and eat the difference.

Not to be annoying and reiterate my question, but how does the screen compare? More specifically, how does it look outdoors? I really want to buy a replacement tablet, but great visibility in all lighting conditions is a huge factor. Reviews that I've read so far haven't really addressed this, with even some mildly negative comments about the 7+ screen.
It's a gloss screen so I doubt it would be perfect outdoors but it's not horrible in my limited experience. It's a bit darker than the screen in the 8.9 or 10.1 but it doesn't have viewing angle problems it's still a Samsung screen. Just naturally a tad darker at default.
I used to own the 1st Galaxy TAB P1000; it has no problem handling *.MKV files even with size more than 2 GB. Likewise for the 8.9. But for RMVB files it is a challenge. I tried the same files on a IPAD2. It faces the same problem . There are jerkiness . Try to get the files from www.33md.com

Maybe your app is better, or maybe your videos are lower resolution. My 10.1 (with a handful of apps I tried) barfed on 1080p pretty hard.

Video Recording etc,

Hey guys, been watching a few videos on the Nexus 4 now and one thing that has really impressed me so far is the video recording, and more specifically the microphone when recording.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IZIG-YnLhE
Just thought I'd shove this video here, im sure some of you have seen it already but is it just me or is the microphone really clear?
Im currently using the iPhone 4s and the microphone isn't as good as this. The video is a little shaky but I'm sure if mounted on a tri-pod (with an adapter of course) it should work fine.
Edit, then again, this video says otherwise.. http://youtu.be/M4CbYXKxj6I
The microphone is average, but the frame rate overwhelms it on the negative side.
Can anyone mod a 30fps video or is the problem of 22fps , in the sensor itself ?
The sensor IS capable of 30fps (even more). Software isn't taking full advantage of the sensor. Maybe on a more recent build the problem is already fixed, but no one on more recent builds posted an unedited video
Wat sensor does it have?
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
I take my Atrix 2 as a benchmark, and since it's a phone from end-2011, for progress' sake, the N4 should beat it hands down.
Sound-wise, the Atrix 2 does near camcorder-quality and beats the N4 by a long shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ii2Q7FJ5bA
Image-wise, the N4 looks good. Remember that youtube videos are often compressed badly and stutter on their own. It is sharp and there's plenty of details, judging from the op's second link, but the framerate is poor. My Atrix2's recording frame rate is always 30 fps, and image quality is just a tad worse.
So may I ask google, is it that difficult to do, with top-notch hardware, what motorola did 1 year ago with now-outdated chips?
Doesn't youtube cap videos at 30fps?

Nope, It reinterprets higher framerates into 30frames, unless the slowmotion effect is going to be employed, in which case it keeps the extra frames. What looks to be the problem is the recording refresh rate. The output of the codec file is always going to be a standard (24/30 in NTSC, 25 in PAL), whether or not there are actual frames there, is determined by the refresh rate.
My point is that youtube isn't going to reinterpret the video and change the framerate.
What is wrong with the FPS?
This phone just gets worse :\
Im more interested in the mic. In some videos its decent, others its terrible?
The video looks fine, stop complaining. Do I have to go on about the price like everyone does?
This is going to be a hard week, I have to use an iPhone, sold my SGS2 ):

No, it doesn't.
You can go on about the price, but you'll still be wrong, since other devices at a lot of pricing ranges are able to maintain 30fps video recording.
And since not everyone is able to buy from the Google Market (there's a thing called "rest of the world"), and price outside is REALLY higher, you'll be double wrong.
As said a lot around, seems to be a software bug, making the camera module basically "take a lot of photos" instead of "making a video". The camera itself IS able to do [email protected] and [email protected] The S4 processor and 2GB of RAM are more than capable of dealing with the support necessary.
Google/LG are likely to NOT fix it, but I hope someday the community here manages to.
Is it recorded in 1080p? If so I think it will look smooth in 720p.

Bet you lots of money that it's fixed on launch day - producing 30FPS videos like a champ. NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE A FINAL VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE. And judging by the performance increase within the last few days on at least one N4 device, I'm going take an educated guess and say that Google are releasing software updates once every 2 or 3 days before the launch and my honest opinion is that Google are impairing things on purpose so that no one from the company runs off with a device and chucks it on eBay for quad profit.

Why the OnePlus 5 Camera is a Big Fail is real world usage

'Clearer Photos' - written on the side of the box. The biggest hype surrounding the OnePlus 5 has been about the camera. On paper the specs look great, 'benchmark' photos and scores look good too. But in real world usage it's a big Fail. This is why..
All else being equal, more mega pixels means lower quality images. This may be a surprise to some. This is the reason. More pixels on a sensor means each pixel is smaller. Which means over the same time period less light is recorded on each pixel. To solve this problem there are two solutions. 1) Hold the shutter open longer to capture more light. Longer shutter times causes blurring and softness if any movement is present. 2) Increase the amplification from the sensor (ISO). This causes noise and degrades the image. The result is lower quality photos.
So why have a high Megapixel count? Resolution. In the early days of digital photography the low resolution from cameras was a limiting factor and you could easily see the pixels if you zoomed in. 1.3MP for example is 1280x1200 pixels. That's not going to look great on a high resolution screen or blown up. So what about the 20MP sensor in the OnePlus 5? Well that's 3'600x5'400 pixels! This is only useful if you're printing images out in a large poster size. With the tiny sensors in a mobile phone you'll only be able to produce good quality images at this resolution if there's tons of light and the scene is still.
Here's a newsflash for OnePlus: We don't use our mobile phones to take photos of trees in the sun (unless you're a phone reviewer). We use our phones to take photos of family, friends, pets, activities, often inside or at night and other low light scenarios and we post them on Facebook and Instagram.
We need in focus, non blurred, 'Clearer' photos that will mostly be viewed on other phones. This translates to phones with good low light performance with fast auto-focus. We don't need or want 20MP degrading that quality. We also need a better auto-focus system. Have a look at the last couple generations of the Samsung Galaxy to see how it should be done.
This is why the OnePlus 5 camera fails in real life usage and is a disappointment. Please listen OnePlus. Look at what the other manufacturers are doing and get it right on the OnePlus 6.
surprising post perhaps dual camera understanding is requiredbefore writting so much about powerful dual camera phone
Reading this was such a waste of time
Perfect summary of whats going on. Only god knows what was going on in OP's marketeers. "Clearer photos" my ***!
I am so much disappoint!
Edit: The sad thing is that I even think (then again, I'm an idiot..) their strategy can make sense. Yes, they could have put ONE sensor in there that yields better results than the current setup. But having TWO cameras is the new trend and, thus, is way easier to market. Even the new Samsung Note will feature two sensors. So OP had to choose between a better camera and less revenue or a worse camera and more revenue.
Unfortunately they picked the latter.

Ok, creating an other topic was maybe useless but... The fact is that at the moment, the camera is very disappointing, to say the least. Especially when the device was marketed as the new camera standard, "clearer photos" etc.
I think nobody was expecting a DSLR camera, but maybe more than the overly washed, grainy or over saturated and sharpened shots that it actually produces. C'mon, I upgraded from an old Nexus 5 and expected a dramatic improvement in the camera quality. I am delighted to say this is not the case.
The big question now is : will these issues be software fixable ?

If I'm good, each iteration of OnePlus device get a better camera with software update.
You are probably right but there are things you can accept when you pay 300$ that you can not accept anymore when you pay 550$. Rising the price also means raising the expectations.
Please will people stop making random rant posts and freaking out?!
The phone has been released for a week now and isn't even globally available yet.
There's been 3 software updates already to fix issues.
Just wait about a month and then if it's still crap you can complain.
The problem is that in many countries, you can freely return you device within 14 days after you purchased it. So waiting one Month with nothing but hopes and wishes is a costly option.

Nonsense. A fast SOC and lots of RAM doesn't make up for fake promises of a great camera and lies about benchmarks, poor design, little features etc. Give OP credit when they deserve it and heat when they don't. The OP5 is a big let down, they need to sort themselves out.

Even Apple's own depth effect had to have multiple software updates before it worked properly.

Question How is performance and camera after updates?

Hello,
All initial reviews show some spontaneous performance lags and a rather not so satisfying camera. As the phone is now on January 2022 update, have things become better?
Thank you

hi, what performance lag are you referring to? what is wrong with the camera? in comparison to my friends samsung S20FE mine looks a LOT better and has a load more detail. it is a 64 MP camera and it is pretty good imo vs the phones I've had this is by far the best. when it comes to performance lag, I'm not sure what you are referring to? is there a game too demanding for the phone? I can run some PS2 games on my phone like DBZ budokai 3, tenkaichi 3, Kingdom hears 2, Digimon rumble arena, digimon Data Squad, Simpsons hit and run and a few others at pretty much 60 fps with a minor dip here and there. Genshin runs better on higher graphics settings since the GPU picks up where the CPU is a little lacking but yeah Genshin is the only game I've found that has some stuttering on this phone so far. don't expect miracles for the price but at the price I paid for it there is nothing that even comes remotely close to it in South Africa
Hi, thanks for your input, I am referring to all reviews you can read about this phone.

yeah, I like the camera but I'm no expert photographer, I've only used the camera for personal use but I love the quality! if the reviews on google by actual users don't go searching for the guy like this one if the guy didn't buy a fake he is delusional.

Most third class mobile. Check the camera before buy this phone. 2mp camera is better than this phone cam(64mp). All reviews will be 0. Realme is better phone from Redmi. Disappointed to buy it. Feedback after using 4months."
still after updates the camera quality is worse. photos remain patchy and washed out. my earlier note 7s pro was 100 times better then this. and yes a 2mp camera is even better then this. please dont buy this phone even in a 2ns sale.
